Thrall shoved the last bag of the Wealth into the stash, and gave a soft breath, shaking his head as he looked at the barren land around him.
He felt quite at home.
"The Careers are out," he said quietly. "Why aren't you with them, Two?"
He didn't know her name, but she might as well start explaining things. He hadn't bothered to list off who was who.
The sky pictures had been a blow. Already, he felt the weight of blame.
Somewhere, in District 12, a family would be blaming him for living when their child didn't.

Kale dumped her pack down, and let out a slow breath. She could handle weighty items for a fair amount of time, but the trek had been long and even she got tired. It would be better not to become too muscle weary though; she needed to ensure she was prepared to fight at a moments notice. Injuries would be no good, no good at all.
She scanned the wasteland, seeking out spots where they could bunk down and remain in cover while they rested.
"I don't follow the crowd," Kale stated shortly. "Particularly not when they're losing." She shrugged in a lackadaisical manner.
"'Sides, until the clusterfuck, I was going to hit out alone for a while. I never intended to be at one with the Careers; no ones making best friends out here," she added pragmatically.

The wasteland was flat and desolate; the gloom appearing to stretch as far as you could see. In the darkness; the spiked cacti and occasional gnarled tree appear to jump out as exposed grasping fingers. The two tributes had barely began to get sand on thier new hiking boots when the sounds of shouting reached them. Lifting thier eyes; they see two of the district eleven tributes charging towards them. An attack? Yet a moments observation reveals a four - legged reptilain creature chasing after the two tributes. It is clearly an enhanced mutation; some sort of clamboring lizard. Its skin is mottled and textured; its skin the color of shining sand. Its forked purple tongue flecks out as it pursues the two. You note that the male appears to be limping; a bloody patch is noticeable on his left leg.
The creature itself appears to be about seven feet long from nose to snout; with three feet of long; whip - like tail. Its four legs are muscular and tipped with black; curved claws. It appears to be keeping up with the tributes with ease.
The tributes and creature should be upon you within a minute.

Thrall briefly studied Kale, and then shrugged. That seemed fair, then. He opened his mouth to say something after a moment, and then there was running. Well, the arena was supposed to try and kill them too. He unslung his bow, deft fingers automatically drawing back an arrow. He sighted along the shaft, aiming. Aiming. Waiting. As the lizard go closer, he let the arrow fly. Straight for the eye socket. Really, he thought Eventually, they're going to attack me with something eyeless...2012-06-09 21:53:33 Thrall rolled 14 dice to "Dexterity 3 + Athletics 5 + Spec + FS Archery Bow 4 + Aim 4 - 3 Called to Giant Lizard Eye" 2,5,3,3,6,8,2,5,8,4,7,8,10,5,9 (5 successes)

Huh. Welll... I didn't expect that, was the first thing that struck Kale as the lizard-thing stampeded in their direction. At least its attention was not currently focused on them- maybe that would give them a moment to prepare themselves. A hand slipped down to one of her newly acquired knives. They were not her forte; but in this situation they were as good as anything. As Thrall let loose an arrow, she aimed and threw one of the knives. The dinosaur - lizard thing bellows as the arrow sinks into its eye. Green blood begins to seep from it; but the beast barely misses a step. The knife sinks into the beasts' hindquarters; and it emits an odd sort of squawk. Its large head pivots on a dime; smashing sideways into the district 11 female. The slim girl makes a terrified shriek as she's knocked to the ground. The girl is sprawled on her side and makes a valiant effort to roll out of the way. The dinosaur barrels forward; one leg coming down on the girl's shoulder. The head swivels to the side; that one good eye searching for her.
Her screams are laced with pain and fear. Blood is beginning to swell from beneath those claws; but surely that wound is superficial. The larger district 11 male turns at the scream. He hesitates. There is raw emotion on his face; warring between loyalty and fear.

Thrall closed out the screams, pulling back his bow as he rapidly nocked a second arrow. The bow string sang as he released it, aiming for the lizard's other eye. It had to be debilitated, stop it from striking... He grinned. "Are you going to stand there, or are you going to save her?" he spat at the male tribute from 11, who's name he'd never bothered to learn or cared to remember. 2012-06-13 13:29:07 Thrall rolled 10 dice to "Taking the lizard's OTHER Eye" 9,3,3,3,4,6,2,2,8,3 (2 successes)

[We can cover how the fight goes between us. Time to get you caught up]
As the tributes recover from the grueling race from the mutations; the sun slowly climbs over the horizon.
"Good morning, tributes..." A booming voice comes from the sky of the arena. "There has been a rule change. More than one victor may be crowned if an alliance manages to locate these Victor's Bracelets that have been placed in the arena."
An image of a bracet - simple; with an emblem of the capial on the side - is projected onto the sky.
"Three maps have been placed with the location of three Victor's Bracelets. There are two stipulations
A) Only one alliance will survive. If the Bracelets are distributed amongst more than one alliance; the Games continue until one alliance is victorious.
B) Another bracelet will be placed for excellent acts of valor and determination by the dominant alliance.
There are no gaurantees how many bracelets will be in place. I suggest that you hurry, tributes. May the odds be ever in your favor."
Instead of fading; the sky projects an image. It is of the Forrest; with a shimmering, golden colored map at the top of a tree. The tree seems to tower a good twenty feet above the others; suggesting a hefty climb.
The image then changes to that of blue water. The camera dives below the surface and plummets to a dark; rocky bottom. There; a shimmering tube holds another map.
The image goes white; then pulls back to reveal swirling snow flakes. A flat, white ground is portrayed; with grey rocks evenly spaced. The camera zooms along the rocks before zooming out...
With these clues revealed; the images fade.

I'm declaring that Thrall and Kale damage the lizard enough that it lumbers away into the wasteland. Thrall uses 7 arrows and recovers 4. Odin saves Sorrel from being maimed; but he's limping badly. After a goodwill wave for the aid/distraction; the two head off for the Frozen Tundra.

Jace Colton[/u] It looked to him like something had happened in the sand. Some sort of...scuffle, maybe, but it was being slowly worn away, and in the end he couldn't figure it out. Still, there were tracks to follow, and he was confident that they were heading in the right direction. 2012-07-10 20:14:28 Jace Colton rolled 2 dice to "Wits + Investigation - 2" 5,7 (0 successes) Lallek was right about one thing: They needed those supplies. Medical supplies, at the very least, if they were going to be able to keep wounds clean and uninfected. Water. Food. The tracks that head into the Wasteland are heavier than those that head into the Tundra, and he'd rather head this way than in the direction that he knew the bigger alliance had gone. They still weren't up to full strength, and frankly he wasn't in the mood to deal with the rest of that mess right now. He had surviving to do. Surviving. And winning. 2012-07-10 20:16:50 Jace Colton rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 8,2,2,10,5,9,5 (3 successes)

Lallek is lost on the confusion of prints before them. He wasn't even able to try and make sense of it all. People were moving, towards the Tundra and further forward. Either way, he wasn't keen on running into them. If they were unable to successfully locate the horde, Lallek wanted to return to the forest. This was not his environment and Rory and her alliance were in the Tundra. No need to disturb unturned stones. Looking at Jace, Lallek shrugs and looks around a bit confused. This place was harsh, water was scarce and neither he nor his partner were familiar with it. In the forest they could forage and with proper healing and planning they could probably retake the Lake. The mutations there were nasty but not unmanageable. Plus there was a bracelet there. A desert was the opposite of Lallek's home turf there. Even snow was just an altered form of water, but this endless stretch of dry earth was hardly a sympathetic place. He smacks his lips together thirstily and takes a drink. Pointing at the tracks, Lallek stares expectantly at Jace. It was crunch time either they found it or they didn't. Either way it was time to make a move. 2012-07-11 00:06:27 Lallek rolled 5 dice to "Perception" 5,6,7,3,5 (0 successes) Sorry that I have been gone. We are at a church camp in Missouri and the internet access is really limited. Now that I know how to access it I will try to be more regular. Thanks for being patient with me.

Jace immediately notices one disturbing thing - two tributes were watching his alliance. The two figures were standing atop of a dune about fifty feet away. The foot prints didn't lead that direction; so either this was a new group or they had moved around further ahead. Jace believed that they were two males; one about his size and one taller. He could spot a sword in scabbard on the larger male; a bow on the back of the shorter tribute. The two tributes turn and head east; deeper into the Wasteland and out of sight.
Jace is relieved to discover that the tracks continue onwards in a more north west direction; away from the others. After about half an hour of walking; the two have worked through a third of their water skins. Jace isn't two worried as he spots a section of overturned sand! A quick digging reveals good news and bad news.
The good news is that he has found 1 jug containing two gallons of water, 2 weapons cases and a small bag. Looking inside the weapons cases; he discovers two chakrams; the circular throwing discs with cutting edges. The small bag contains two pairs of grey shorts, two summer hats and two pairs of sunglasses. The clothing would likely make moving in this hot weather easier; but it meant that the larger cache of gear was elsewhere...
Lifting his head; he spots more faint foot prints leading north. The gear must be in that direction...

Jace Colton[/u]
"Lallek. Top of the Dune. Fifty Feet away." He doesn't point. Gestures could be read. One was his size and one was bigger. The one his size had a bow.
Bows, he was learning. were things he needed to stay away from. He wasn't a ranged combatant. He could throw a knife, but he was better with his scythe, and the scythe required that he be in close.
"Watch my back." The overturned sand reveals their reward, and he pulls out the weapons bags and the clothing and the water. Half of everything was Lallek's, and he says as much to his partner.
Water that would save them a great deal of trouble later. Two gallons wouldn't get them far in the Wasteland, but if they go elsewhere it would help them quite a bit. Especially the jug itself. They could fill that up with snow or with water as well....
"....There are fainter footprints heading north. I'm thinking that's where the rest of it is." The look that he gives Lallek is obvious.
Do we go for it, or do we take what we have?

Even though Lallek misses them, he trusts Jace's assessment. A barren dune was worse than spotting them. Those were moving tributes and potential enemies.... Those supplies were vital, but they had been spotted and that meant they were likely too be hunted. Most normal tributes wouldn't want to engage them unless forced to though. Unless that was the group that had maimed the career pack. There were too many variables for Lallek's liking. Truth be told though, they were as likely to die here in the Wasteland as they were to die in the forest. More supplies would improve their odds and make death less likely so he gestures after the supplies. His expression is grim, but he points to Jace's wounds and reveals his ever dwindling supply of knives. We need that gearOnce they begin to move, Lallek does his best to cover his trail. Stealth would be difficult out here, but it was certainly worth a try. 2012-07-11 04:59:19 Lallek rolled 7 dice to "Stealth+Wits" 4,6,4,2,9,9,2 (2 successes)

Jace leads the way further into the Wasteland, leading his alliance through a series of low sand dunes. The sunglasses help for the glare that the sun gives off; and the hats provide some welcome shade for your face. Sweat droplets run down your face and make your clothes sticky, a very uncomfortable feeling. If you were to stay here, you'd want to get rid of these pants. Perhaps you ought to change into those shorts. Thankfully water isn't an issue; and as long as you drink regularly you are able to keep a steady pace. Judging by the sun; you walk for another hour before Jace slows. His attention is drawn to a green cactus that casts a shadow- and theres an equally dark area of sand beside it. Walking towards it; you see that this dark area is where blood has soaked into the sand. A scuffle is present here... Yet what Jace is interested in is right beside the pool of blood. He begins to dig where the sand has been disturbed, coming up with a bag. Then another bag! There are no more bags at your feet; but you don't know if more are concealed close by. The foot prints become signifigantly harder to read here. Is Lallek writing anything? You did find a pen & paper [roll investigation to understand the scuffle] [roll wits + survival - 2 for foot print reading] [roll perception]

Jace Colton[/u] Two bags. Two, near a cactus. Which, if they played it right might actually have water in it. He'd learned that from a book. That you could get water from a cactus. He'd have to figure out how if they ran out. Two bags, and he grinned and laughed a little. "The tracks go fainter that way. Did you want to follow?" Or did Lallek think they had enough? 2012-07-11 20:49:13 Jace Colton rolled 5 dice to "Wits + Investigation " 4,9,5,4,3 (1 successes) 2012-07-11 20:50:30 Jace Colton rolled 6 dice to "Wits + Survival - 2" 8,6,5,2,8,6 (2 successes) 2012-07-11 20:52:10 Jace Colton rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 7,3,5,10,9,6,4 (2 successes)

As they approach the second stash, Lallek glances about cautious of the danger they were deliberately walking into. This desert was making him a touch paranoid. Still it was nice to know that they were making progress. Small though it may seem. Holding up a hand Lallek shakes his head. No need to go deeper unless they had too. Instead he points to the ground and the bags of supplies. Not wasting any time or any water he begins his search. 2012-07-12 01:06:00 Lallek Aldren rolled 1 dice to "Wits+Investigation-3(Untrained)" 6 (0 successes) 2012-07-12 01:00:17 Lallek rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Survival-2" 3,3,3,9 (1 successes) 2012-07-12 00:56:49 Lallek rolled 5 dice to "Perception" 5,9,5,7,6 (1 successes)

Within the first bag, Jace and Lallek discover another 2 gallons of water in a clear jug. They also find a container of 15 or so sealed bags; the picture depicting pre- made scrambled eggs. The last item in this bag is a small bag with a collapsible fishing pole, fishing line and 3 hooks.
The second bag contains 10 Throwing knives ( + 2), 3 helmets (+1 armor) and 2 Compound bows (+ 2). You do note all of the arrows seem to have been taken.

Picking up one of the helmets, Lallek tosses it to Jace. No use finding them if they weren't put to good use. He promptly places another helmet on his own head and fastens it on, giving it a shake for good measure.
For a moment Lallek is hesitant to pick up the knives, there is a small flash of panic, but then he suppresses the urge. Doing a quick exchange, he trades the knife in his boot for a higher quality one, then stashes the rest on his body. He shrugs to Jace a bit apologetically. His partner had no use of them, in the same way Lallek had no use of a scythe. Each had their strengths and he intended to equip them accordingly.
The bows give him pause. He had no experience firing a bow, but he couldn't imagine it was too difficult. Sliding one over his shoulder he offers the other to Jace. It was firewood if nothing else.
Finally came the food and water. Lallek divides the shares in half. One gallon of water each, with 8 packets of eggs to Jace and 7 to himself. He picks up the fishing pole and its accompanying gear as well. They were heavily laden but better prepared than he had hoped for with the Wealth missing.
"We should head to the forest. I'd like to make a more permanent camp their if we can. These supplies should be enough. Unless you'd rather move forward looking for more, I'm ready to go. A medkit or some tools would be nice though." He hands the note to Jace and waits a bit unsure. As much as he hated the danger, these supplies would make or break them. More would be a huge advantage, especially if these troves kept getting greater, but with the wealth came risk, and this wasteland had given Lallek more than his desired share of heat and alien terrain. Jace was level headed, and Lallek trusted whatever decision he made in the matter.
What a horrible place this is...

"Heat doesn't bother me. District 9 is always hot and humid." What had Micha called it? 'Golden'. To him it was just downright hot.
Though he'd take his 'golden' fields over these any day. The thought just made him long for home even more. Which meant he needed to get that much more determined to get home. "Permanent camp sounds good. I'm not happy sticking to the wasteland, and the fact that we have no arrows for these bows means that someone took them.
"And we need to find bracelets. As for a med kit...I'm going to see if I can't find any medicinal plants in the woods." He could only hope that Lyme would send them something. "Whoever buried this stuff will probably be back anyway, and I'm not sure I want to be here when they do. Should try coverin' our tracks too. Don't want 'em followin'
"Take all three helmets. Better they think there are three of us rather than just two."
He grinned. "The shade of the forest is soundin' a mite nice right now."
With that, he takes the binoculars out and looks around them. There had been two tributes watching the two of them, and it'd be nice to know if they were already being followed or if the two had decided to ignore them for now.
It also couldn't hurt to earn a few points and warn them about the Big Alliance. Six still in the Tundra so far as he knew. Warn them, and hope that maybe they took out one or two of them.
It was messed up that he was thinking of it that way. It wasn't in him to think of things like that, but they all couldn't go home, and he had the feeling that when things came down to it, he knew who'd be the first the Big Alliance turned on.
He could only wish Pearl and Micha were smart enough to figure it out.

As Jace glanced around; he spotted two tributes a good distance away and headed right towards them. One was slim; perhaps female. The other had the hair cut of a young man. They were carrying packs and each wore a full set of armor - helmets, arm bracers and padded armor. When Jace zeroed the binoculars in; he could see that the male was carrying a bow - and what looked like two sets of arrows. Jace estimated that the two would spot Lallek and himself in about two minutes if they remained where they were.

Jace Colton[/u]
"We need to go. Now. The Tributes from before are headed right for us. The male has two quivers of arrows, and they're both wearing a good deal of armor." They needed to get some place with cover, and fast. It was too hot here right now, and there wasn't cover in sight. "They'll see us soon. We need to get moving."
With that, he shoulders his packs and starts moving. At another time, they might be alright, but he was still wounded, and Lallek might be a mite better, but they would be stronger in the woods where there was cover and shade and water. And medicinal herbs. They needed those.
And they needed to not die before they got those bracelets. After that, they could hide and wait for everyone to kill each other off.
"Let's go."

There was a small degree of relief when Jace agrees to head for the forest and Lallek nods in agreement. Then Jace warns of the incoming tributes. Never a dull moment.Following his partner's lead, Lallek hurries after Jace, eager to get out of the wasteland and back to safety. This heat was sweltering and a fight out here was not something he wanted to have any part in. As the sand moves under his feet, he never looks back. Rather, Lallek keeps his head trained on Jace and the safety of anywhere but this desert. 2012-07-12 22:53:30 Lallek rolled 8 dice to "Stamina+Athletics" 5,3,5,9,9,7,2,2 (2 successes)
