Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for the Battle:"The Fortuneteller's Son" "What is dead may never die." "This is no 'Game'." It was blasphemous to say it, but there it was. It made him twitch, every time someone referred to it as a Game. "It is a Battle, and one does not 'win' a Battle. One merely survives to fight another day."There's a swallow, and he looked to the water. "We all go back to the Water. We are made of it, and we all go back to it. It is merely a question of 'When'."---- It was clicking. And clacking. And...it was a lobster. His hands tightened on the spear. It was a lobster, and his family were fishermen. Lobsters... "Is it a true lobster? Beneath. It would be 'soft', yes?" There's a sidelong look to Riven. To the Mentors. Something had to happen here, and Zale would not be the first to attack this time around. He would wait. See what this thing would do.

"When you kill in cold blood, that cold seeps right into your being." While she didn't show it, Jasmine was thankful for Sam's words. She didn't like the reception, even if she didn't show it, at home. Even if it made it easier to disappear to give her brothers private lessons out among the endless fields of orchard trees. She drew a shallow breath, walking Sam's circuit with him. She listened to him. While her experience with District 4 hadn't been pleasant, she'd almost ended Lallek's life while he laid screaming in his sleep. She hadn't understood Lallek and Jace's relationship, but she couldn't deny the loyalty there. The pair had stuck beside each other to the bitter end. Jasmine had thrown in with District Seven, and it had brought her home. And if nothing else, Zale had conducted himself with that same sort of loyalty. "Dis'rick Four've true to their words in tuh past. If'n he's willin' tuh stick by yuh tuh th'end, I'd say do so. I dun think 'e's th'type tuh betray 'is word. If'n he leaves an' yer not feelin' much in th'way o' the rest o'the alliance, go with 'im if he'll 'ave you. An' Sam?" She paused for just a moment, turning her cool gaze toward him. "Ain't nothin' wrong with a friend in 'ere. It'll make it 'arder tuh kill 'im or 'er at th'end... but... Best thing yuh can do fer 'em at that point is keep their memory 'live. A'ight?"Hit points: 21/21 Defense: 3 Willpower: 4/4

Riven almost snorted at Ember, “We are nothing alike, you and I.” She retorted defensively, glancing at Diadem and clutching onto the hilt of her sword a little tighter. Couldn't she just give this girl the death she should have been given the year before? Ember smirk in the moonlight of the beach looked monstrous. She looked at Riven and put her empty hands up. There was a pause before Ember removed her light jacket and tied her hair up. Under the radiance of the moon, all that came clear was the shiny lines that adorned her arms, glowing, save for the dark spot on her neck. “If that’s the lie you want to tell yourself, Queen Bee, who am I to judge. Those scars of yours tell me a different story,” Ember chuckled. “Ember…” Diadem warned her hand on her sword. “Zale’s correct. It’s not a game. Not for people like us. Now stop antagonizing her. Riven has something in common with the both of us now. She’s lost her district partner before the second day. Remember that anguish?”Ember stiffened. Then she smirked. “Fine… I’m sorry, QB. Meant nothing by it. And sorry, Priest. No disrespect intended.” She followed his gaze to the water. “When it comes to when we're called back to the water, all I say is ‘Not today.’”“Heh… Let’s be quick about this…” Silver said. His expression was neutral. He had been doing this the longest. He knew how the game was played. “Well, I’ll distract it. You guys be amazing. Everyone good with the plan? Good.” Ember said, quickly before she trotted off toward the giant crustacean. Silver laughed. “It’s not a game. But there’s no harm in enjoying yourself.”Ember darted out and called to the lobstrosity and waved her arms. It turned toward her and took a swipe at her but she dodged it. “Woo! Come on, big red. Betcha never had the taste of wolf before.”Lobstrosity rolled 1 dice to "Claw 9-8" 6 (0 successes) ***** Sam could hear the light clopping of what almost looked like a deer in the night. It was a large buck. But it paid, Sam or Jasmine or the camp for that matter any mind as it passed. Steinbock rolled 5 dice to "Perception" 5,3,7,4,6 (0 successes)

Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for the Battle:"The Fortuneteller's Son" "What is dead may never die." Ember took off at the thing. He wrinkled his nose a little, readying the spear in his hands and searching--waiting--for an opening. When the thing rose up to snap at the Victor from District 12, Zale darted forward and attempted to stab at the things underbelly with the spear. It was a hit. Not as solid as he would have liked, but to get under such a creature without being trapped himself was difficult at best. 2013-05-22 19:54:39 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 9 dice to "Spear (Called Shot to the Underbelly (-7 Total)" (9-again) 6,5,2,1,5,4,5,10,8,8 (3 successes)

Riven Tanzanite: District One's Volunteer for the 27th Hunger Games, The Anguished Fencer “Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals.” Riven made a face, an unimpressed scoff, at Ember's display of her scars. The girl from One bit her tongue, quite literally, to stop herself from retorting once again. Zale was correct: this was no a game. It was a war, and it should not be taken lightly. Ember's constant teasing was distracting her from the true matter at hand. “You will hear no objection from me.” She responded to Ember, before glancing at Diadem, “One thing she and I can agree on.” Riven all but muttered. “Why doesn't she use our names?” The girl grumbled as she sauntered forward towards the large crustacean that Ember was currently distracting. She watched Zale as he attacked, and decided to mirror his move. Hers was rather lack-luster, however, and disappointing. The girl from One grimaced. Ember was really throwing her off her game. [27] Riven Tanzanite rolled 6 dice to "Attacking Lobster: [13 - 7]" 1,2,2,6,10,6,3(1 successes)

“I believe it’s a sign of endearment laced with what District 2 tributes sometimes referring to others by their district number. By calling you Queen Bee, she paying respect as well as distancing herself from you emotionally,” Diadem whispered to Riven. Silver saw how well Zale’s attack had landed and then followed suit. He thrust both of his weapons into the underbelly of the lobstrosity. Silver rolled 8 dice to "attack 1 + Will" 1,10,3,6,7,8,7,10,9,6 (4 successes) Silver rolled 7 dice to "Attack 2 - 1 + Will" 6,4,7,9,2,8,2 (2 successes) The giant sea bug whipped it’s tail around and hit Silver good, causing him to stumble back a bit onto the gear. Lobstrosity rolled 6 dice to "tail whip (Silver)" 7,3,5,5,9,10,7 (2 successes) “Silver!” Diadem cried, lashing out with her weapon, striking a powerful blow to the underbelly of the beast. Diadem Gilded rolled 9 dice to "Attack + Will" 9,2,4,2,8,6,9,8,6 (4 successes) “I’m fine, little lamb.” Silver replied. “Just kill the bloody thing already!”“On it!” Ember said rushing in there. Like Silver she let out two attacks. Slice and stab. Slice missed completely and the look on Ember’s face said plainly that that surprised and annoyed her. She was Ember-Frakking-Clay. She wasn’t supposed to miss. Which is why she put all of her weight into the second attack. The Lobstrosity actually screamed as it died. Ember stood up her arm covered in white goo. Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Attack 1" 1,5,2,4,6,4,3,3 (0 successes) Ember Clay rolled 10 dice to "Attack 2 - 1 + Will" 7,9,2,4,2,8,1,6,10,4,10,4 (4 successes) She was smirking. “Well, that was awesome. Let’s do this again. Same time next year?”Diadem looked around for Silver. But he wasn’t anywhere to be found. Diadem Gilded rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 10,5,4,5,6,7,6 (1 successes) Diadem Gilded rolled 5 dice to "Perception rote" 2,5,2,7,1 (0 successes) “Where’s Silver?” Diadem asked. Ember looked around. “He’s gone. He’s stuff’s gone. And there are tracks. I think he left us.”Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Perception" 5,10,6,9,6,6,10,6,5,5 (3 successes) Ember Clay rolled 5 dice to "Perception rote" 1,1,1,5,8 (1 successes) Riven - Pack 2 & Waterskin Zale - Pack 3 and A bag of coins. The night progressed, with some tributes standing sentry against the night and some slumbering as best they could. There was new gear, armor and weapons passed to those who awoke through out the night. Within a few hours, the amber light signaled that the sun was coming up. As the sun rose above the horizon, the temperature began to rise. As the sun continues its path across the sky, the temperature slowly rises to sixty degrees.
The tributes can now see this area in full light. The field was now kissed with dew. The tree line may harbor breakfast or danger. The mentor Silver had not returned. What do you do?

"When you kill in cold blood, that cold seeps right into your being." Jasmine rested solidly through the night. She didn't dream. She hadn't dreamt terribly often since Bogart'd been butchered, and even then it'd been rare since she'd stabbed Emerald. She rose with the first light and went through her morning ritual of donning the armor the others had brought back, stringing her new bow, and packing up her other gear into the backpack that the game makers had graciously given her. After all her things were put away she bent and gently jostled Sam and Iris into consciousness before doing a full headcount. One was missing. It took her a moment to realize that it was Silver and not a tribute. She'd hold her tongue for now though, waiting to hear if he or disappeared during the tussle at the beach. Jasmine could see Ember and Diadem had already been awake for some time. Both ladies looked dressed for war, wearing armor, each had their weapons of choice hanging from their belts. Ember even had a bow in her hands. They were whispering. “Ace still isn't here...”
Diadem nodded. “I find that troublesome.”
Ember smirked. “Yeah, wigs the **** out of me too...”
“Do we look for him?” Diadem asked.
Ember shrugged. “Prolly. If we know where Ace, I'll sleep better at night, won't you?” The ladies looked up at Jasmine when they saw she was awake. “Jasmine, good morning...” Diadem greeted. “Hey, your Royal Frostiness... There are presents in that bag for you. After you suit up, need to borrow you a sec.”

Riven Tanzanite: District One's Volunteer for the 27th Hunger Games, The Anguished Fencer “Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals.” Riven watched as the overgrown lobster went down, watched her mentor's loyalty to Silver. She had a magnificent mentor, one she could agree with and one she could admire. One she could learn from. Riven knew she was lucky to have someone like Diadem to guide her through the Games. She knew she was lucky to have Diadem there to keep her grounded. Because losing her District Partner so early would have been far worse had she not had Diadem. She gathered her things, and being the only tribute from District One remaining she knew that the items in the package were hers. And when Ember and Diadem noted Silver's disappearance, Riven frowned and looked around. “Why would he flee? You say there are tracks..? We can find him in tomorrow's daylight.” Riven said slowly as she slung her duffel bag over her shoulder and sheathing her sword. The girl from One slept, but she woke early. Her armor was donned once again and she took out another piece of chicken pot pie and ate it so that she would have the energy for her second day in the Arena. If it was to be more eventful than her first, she would certainly need it. Riven left her tent and joined the others outside. Ember and Diadem's whispering she could not hear, but when Ember told Jasmine to join them, Riven frowned slightly. “With all due respect – and I won't say no offense intended because that was thrown back in my face last time – this is my alliance. If you are unwilling to share your conversation with myself and the others, then why are you here?” Riven said calmly and coolly. “Mentors are here to teach and guide their tributes. Silver has abandoned his, and now the three of you are sharing secrets.” The girl shook her head. While she was irritated, there was nothing she could do about it, and she knew that she was crossing boundaries, but she had an alliance to lead. She had a Game to win.

“Good morning, Jasmine. I hope you’re rested…” Diadem said politely with a nod.
Ember smirked at Jasmine question. “Might have a tad to do with that. He disappears right after the fight with his gear. Heading off to the Horn. I figured he was picking up more supplies, only Ace didn’t come home. So I’m thinking either he’s gone-gone… which ain’t likely. Or something’s up.”
Ember would have said more but Riven came up to them and she just looked at Diadem instead of addressing Riven. “You better get her… Or I’ll take to teaching her a lesson… One she’ll remember for the rest of her days…” She looked at Riven, finally. “We're here keeping you alive, or did you miss that part last night when the lobster mutt?”
“Riven, calm yourself. You’re allowing your emotions to cloud your judgment. We are conferring not sharing secrets. Would like to know what we’re discussing? Ask, then. There’s no need for this display… Remember your training…” Diadem told her tribute. “We find Silver’s disappearance and prolonged absence unsettling. Ember believes he went to the horn.”
“Believes? I’m a hunter and a tracker, I ****ing know,” Ember added. “Silver went toward the Horn last night… I thought he’d be back. But he’s not… What’s on the other side of the Horn? Isn’t that where the other alliance is? Or where they when? Maybe he’s scouting out the enemy.”

She exhaled shakily through her mouth and stared at Ember. She barely tore her eyes away when Diadem spoke, and when she did Riven looked back at Ember. Oh how she wanted to tear her throat out, just watch her life fade from her eyes. But she couldn't. Because despite Riven's years of training, Ember was a victor of the Hunger Games: that was no such thing to underestimate. While Ember did not win her title, Riven believed, in a just and fitting way, she had to respect her. If not her, she would respect Diadem. Riven relaxed her muscles and nodded slowly. “My sincerest apologies.” Riven finally said, looking suddenly ashamed of her outburst. “Silver's disappearance worries me too. If you say that you know he went to the Horn, it is to the Horn we go. If only to find out why he left us.” She looked at Ember, “I wish to know why he did not consult with any of us if he was going to scout the enemy. This is not his Games, he has responsibilities. I am with you.”

She flicked her gaze toward Riven's hilt as the girl's hand twitched. If Jasmine had more than ice water in her veins for the majority of the camp here, her hand might have mirrored the career's, twitching toward her quiver of arrows instead of a blade. As it was, she merely stood there, watching Riven with her cool, even stared. As Riven backed down, Jasmine returned her gaze to Ember and Diadem. "If'n'e's off doin' 'is own thin' then 'e might be our's tuh deal wit'. As Riven's so aptly po'nted out, these ain't our games, they're theirs."She directed her gaze back to Riven. Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for the Battle:"The Fortuneteller's Son" "What is dead may never die." Zale watched the confrontation impassively, going through the pack he'd gotten the night before. Clothes. It was clothing to keep them warm, he could only assume, and he pulled the thermal clothing off and put on a pair of the pants and one of the fleece pullovers. It was a touch warm, but it wasn't that huge coat. "Riva. Change into something less hot. We should start packing up here and figure out what is going on." Because something wasn't right. "Silver has not returned?" He looked sidelong at the District 2 Tributes, and then back to the others. To Riven and Ember and Diadem and Jasmine. "Riven. We have Tributes to hunt, yes? This has not changed."

Riva nodded. And she began doing as Zale suggested. “Once of us has a stove here. This one will boil water for waterskins, yes? Drink water. The sun is low but soon it will be high.”
The female tribute from district four broke down the camp, speaking with Diedre and Timor from district two as they awoke for the day.
“Don't be ashamed, Riven. Ember elicits that kind of response in others, I'm told,” Diadem said.
Ember nodded. “It's true. I have one of those faces...” She winked. “So you wanna go to the Horn but you've got tributes to kill and more importantly, you've got to eat and drink.”
Ashlyn approached, leaving Brad to pack up their gear.
“So what's going on?” Ashlyn asked.
“Don't know yet. But we're probably going hunting soon. You in, Slugger?”
Ashlyn nodded. “Yeah, I'm in.”

It is a sword that heals.” Riven didn't really know what to do. Yes, there were tributes to hunt, that was the entire point of the Games. But Silver's swift departure the night before had irritated her: not only had he left the alliance he was – by default – assigned to, but he had left the tributes he was supposed to assisting as well. She felt as though he had gone behind their backs, and more importantly her back. Riven did not like people to do this. “Yes, we have tributes to hunt, Zale.” Riven responded, turning away from the mentors and towards her alliance, “This is no dictatorship: I will not decide the course of action myself. I want to know what everyone would prefer to do. There is the option to find Silver, who may or may not have been taken captive by the enemy on a scouting mission,” For some reason, however, she doubted that the opposition would have done so, “Who I personally would like to find and question on why he decided to abandon us.”The young warrior paused and took a breath, “Or we can look for tributes, tributes to kill so that winning these Games becomes less of a daunting task.” Riven looked at the tributes gathered, her tributes, “I will lead no one where they do not wish to be led.” She told them.

“We're with you, Riven. We agreed to follow you. I won't go back on that word,” Diedre said already breaking down the camp. Timor nodded, assisting his district partner. “Silver is our mentor, if he's missing, we'd like to know where he is.”“There's no reason like Riven says that we can't hunt for tributes and look for Silver,” Ashlyn put out there. Brad sighed, nodding like Timor had. “Yes. We might as well get this stuff over with. I'm sure the Gamemarkers are getting restless.”Iris looked at Jasmine seeing what she thought about all of this. “I'm going if Sam's going.”Sam shrugged. “Well, I'm going. The Silver situation worries me. He should have been back here.”Riva put her hand on Zale's shoulder. She'd follow him. “What is dead may never die, Zale Sewell,” she whispered to him. Diadem met Riven's gaze. “It appears you have your vote, Riven. They have made you their leader, do not fail them.”Ember chuckled, lighting the cigar she had been smoking last night. “Heh... No pressure or anything... Well, Queen Bee, you heard your soldiers. Let's get this over with... Before I forget, only one of you is making it out of this but that doesn't mean your time here has to be utterly pointless. One of the greatest choices a person is faced with in this life is not only how they lived but also how they die.”Follow Riven here.
