In the Sponsor Hall a great exodus of sponsors and ordinary citizens occured to the Fuzzy Slipper. The Fuzzy Slipper - a salon of high repute - hosted an annual unvieling of its new meal starter to coincide with the announcement of new victors. The Sponsor Hall was now a hallowed place unofficially reserved for mentors and family only. Mask and Jeyne, the Sponsor Hall hostesses, discreetly steered most potential patrons away at the door.
Within the Sponsor hall in a private corner booth, Apple appreciated the tradition as silence descended.
District 3 mentors and Harmony of district 5 were drinking hard liquer in the corner, already deep in mourning. Harmony looked bleary eyed and depressed.
Branden stood beside her, watching the screens. It helped him to listen to the 'talking heads' babble as he processed. The new victors of district seven had to develop thier own tradition. Where were Conrad and Rory? Rowan stood a few feet away, hurling darts at the dart board. Was each sharp piercing an enemy of her tributes?
"Mr. & Mrs. Sewell?" Someone in high Capitol style approached, a mic clipped to her high collar dress. She was followed by three men who were highly attentive.
"Could we escort you to the studio? The interviews will be starting soon and I expect you'll want front view access to your son first..."
Apple snorted. She spoke frankly, not caring who heard.
"Are they scheduling the first meeting with thier son around the shooting?"
"I remember that." Branden snorted. "I almost throttled a prep man when Conrad was being prepared for the camera."
Rowan exhaled.
"Willow went out well. She didn't know what happened. Thats better, isn't it?"
Branden exhaled, thinking carefully. It was the first time that Rowan had spoken since Willow had died.
The district four matron - Coraline- extracted herself from her male victors. She neared district seven's table and paused respectfully seven feet away. Apple stood and walked to the woman, extending a hand. The two women solemnly shook hands, looking deep into one another's eyes. While Coraline was no doubt pleased with Zale, she offered condolences for Willow and Pan. This tradition occured between district 4 & district 7 every time a district four or seven tribute won a game.
The district four male victors were still speaking quickly, checking thier communicators. They would be contacted when they would be able to go to Zale... likely right after the interview, sometimes before.
