I am creating this thread to poll your interest in a Vampire: the Requiem Game.
Vampire: The Requiem is a role-playing game published by White Wolf, set in the new World of Darkness, and the successor to the Vampire: The Masquerade line. It was first released in August 2004, together with the core rule book for the World of Darkness. Although it is an entirely new game, rather than a continuation of the old, it uses many elements of the old game in its construction. The game's title is a metaphor for the way vampires within the game view their life.
The most common way for a new vampire to come into existence is to be groomed by its Kindred mentor for a period of years. The Kindred who wishes to make a vampire must beseech the city's Prince for permission to do so. The people of the city can only support so many vampires feeding among them. Too many vampires and not enough people gives rise to risks of Breaches and the inevitable vampire hunters who can run havoc in a vampire society. The Prince grants permission only to the most worthy of applicants - he may hear fifty requests in a year and approve only two of them. This is where my idea for a story comes in. Instead of reading the source book and many supplements of Vampire: the Requiem and choosing a Sire - your character is Embraced on your first night of the Game.
Your character must adjust to becoming a vampire without their Sire being present. You have no memory of the Embrace or of the last three hours of the night. There are two to five other people with you in the same situation as you. You are immediately located by a person who recognizes your situation and guides you to a Kindred enforcer. This is where your questions on what is happening to you are answered - and you are given your big question - who made you? Why can't you remember your Sire?
Basics of Vampire: the requiem
Family and the Embrace
In Vampire: the Requiem, you join a group of 'Kindred' when you die and are Embraced; becoming a vampire. When you are embraced, you join your Sire's bloodline, his Clan. You do not get to choose to change Families after the Embrace. There are five Families of Vampires - the Daeva, the Gangrel, the Nosferatu, the Mekhet and the Ventrue. Each clan has its own unique Discipline. Disciplines are vampiric powers and capabilities which have often given rise to old wives' tales of superhuman speed, strength and endurance possessed by the Damned, along with their piercing gaze, their hypnotic and seductive voices and the unholy power to vanish into shadows and shapeshift into bats, wolves, mist and snakes.
Society
A Vampire society is ruled over by a Prince and governed by his/her chosen advisers; the Primogen. Each of the clans appoints a Priscus to represent the Clan to the Prince and fights to elevate the status of their clan, or 'Family'.
My experience:
I played Vampire the Requiem for five years on two active sites. My ancillae Mekhet rose from a middling character through the ranks to become Sheriff of the City and promoted to Lady of the Invictus. She also performed as the City's only Notary. This occurred over five years of actively playing her. Despite the joys of city promotions, the most fun that I ever had was creating a Dynastic House with other players. Having a 'clique' of close allies who understand and protect you - when the other vampires are all trying to destroy you - is invaluable.
I began to Storytell my own stories within Vampire: the Requiem as an Assistant Storyteller. I created my own forum for this and ran small stories for a year until I ran - in my opinion - one of my best chronicles.
There is a lot more to cover but we should discuss this together and create our game.
