The morning passed very quickly over District 4. As the Games were in their first day; every one was tense as they watched the footage unfold. People gasped as an arrow entered Pearl's leg - and cheered a little as the Big Alliance rallied long enough to give Rachel and Pearl time to escape the Blood Bath. Now they had three district mates surviving: Pearl, Rachel and Lallek. You head to the town square that evening, where a large television broadcasts the Games... The events of the Arena...Rachel - who had been largely absent around camp - steps into camp, carrying three long sticks. Closer inspection reveals that she has wrapped shredded white cloth - presumably from her base layer - on one end of the sticks. Improvised torches? She sets two of the torches down beside the fire wood; lashing one of them to her own pack. She then sits down on a nearby rock, appearing completely disintered in what Lallek is doing. He does notice that she is visually inspecting his traps. Micha continues to approach Jace; ignoring the three young women calling out to her. Reaching Jace; she affirms Rory's statement. "Abigail died."[/b] Her voice is flat; her eyes somewhat red. She did appear genuinely glad to see Jace. She continues to talk, her voice nearly wry. "Then again, we have chicken dinner."[/b] Micha turns towards Tank. "Yes. I could really use some help."[/b] Rowan, walking after Tank, lifts the dead crows to show them to Jace. "Good to see you."[/b] Rowan states, somewhat flat. "Where's Lallek?" [/b] She half turns; visibly inspecting the area. Perhaps checking for signs of an ambush? At camp; Rachel wanders out towards Jace; not speaking to Lallek. As she walks up behind Jace; she states: "I left some torches at camp; next to the firewood. " [/b] She glances towards Jace for a beat before looking back towards the newcomers, gesturing for them to follow her. Rachel turned and headed back towards the camp. As the Big Alliance was adjusting - and perhaps heading over to fill thier water skins in the lake- dusk began to fall over the Forrest. The Horn of Plenty. The Horn of Plenty for us all. Our flag will raise above.
Panem shall reign above.
May our nation never fall....The Anthem filled the sky, its bright colors a sharp contrast to the settling dusk. The Anthem ushered in what every one had been anticipating and dreading; the list of the dead. Faces appeared with each districts' seal... District 3; Bay. District 3, Pike District 5; Luci Scarlett District 5; Elsie District 8; Femra District 9; Abigail; District 12; Ghislaine As the tributes reacted to names of thier district mates or friends being announced; an announcer began to speak. "Hello, tributes...' A man greeted the arena. ' - there will be a rule change for the #25th Hunger Games. There will be more than one victor. An alliance will be allowed to survive... how many members allowed in the surviving alliance will be announced...' The lights faded; leaving you with this unexpected news... shadowclaw.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=arena&action=modifypost&thread=9230&post=73791

Raya sat near the bakery, eating a pastery she had just bought alone side with a drink of water. She had just come back from swimming the warm summer water. She was sitting alone today, just watching the games. One of her favorites things to do, it was fun. As she sat down, watching the games, she looked over the people dead.
"No careers dead," She muttered to herself as she took a sip of her water. Taking one big gulp she listened to the lone game makers voice. She heard carefully before the water came spitting out of her mouth. "What?" She almost said outloud! A rule change, an alliance can win? That will mean that the big alliance of non careers might winThis was not the games!
She could hear a mutter of everyone beside her disagreeing with the rules. She sunk back into her chair, "The game makers better have some tricks if this is really the new rule...."

Beside Raya; a slim, blond girl of about fifteen sits next to her. Raya recognizes her as Coral; the daughter of one of the local fishermen. Her skin was bronzed by the sun and her hair was still damp from the water.
"No careers dead; but with Cade and Klo blinded; I don't know how they'll hold on."[/b] She remarked. A thin, scrappy dark haired boy sat beside Coral. He was a year younger than Raya; and worked on the fishing nets. He clenched his hands nervously as he watched the Games unfold.
"Least Lallek has Jace. Do you think he'll ever talk to Pearl? He has been avoiding looking at her..."

Raya heard someone talk next to her, she peered over and saw Coral and around boy talking or talking to her. She paused for a moment as she fingered her glass cup with ice cubes floating in them.
"The games are going to be tough considering our tributes are blinded.... But the career pack is doing good I suppose. Maybe we will have all of them as a winner considering the rule change, which I don't like myself, its not the games. But I suppose it could work."

"Our tributes?" Coral checks the screen again. "Pearl, Lallek and Rachel aren't blind. But Pearl's leg is hurt. The District seven girl seems to be angry at Jace." She frowns; watching the screen. "But the rule change could mean all District 4 comes home.."

Oh.... She was slightly embrassed ( LOL sorry confused )
"I was confused at that part, but it would be nice to have our Districts 4 come home. It would and that would mean next games they can both mentor the tributes. Which I feel like next year I am going into

"Maybe." The boy frowned. "They haven't said how many get to come home. But at least our three are still alive..."
"Did you have to take out a lot of tessarae?" Coral wonders.
On screen, more footage from the arena unfolds...
Rowan headed over to the Lake with the others. She watched the girls for a moment; but did not bend and fill her canteen. Holding her canteen in her hand; she glances to the others. She seemed especially to be looking after Rachel. Rachel moved along after the group, falling in beside Pearl. Pearl glanced at Rachel and you are reminded of the words the two had shared in the Forrest.
"How many pills do we have left?"[/b] She asked quietly. "I have three - one for me; one for Tank. I have a pot as well, Rory."[/b]
She goes about removing a cooking pot from her pack. Using the extra undershirt as a filter and her canteen as the 'cup'; she fills the pot. She then fills her canteen; dropping in an iodine tablet.
Pearl limps over to the lake shore; kneeling to fill her canteen. Rowan hands her a pill without being asked. Pearl drops it into her canteen; swishing it around.
"You sure are eying my district partner."[/b] She says to Rowan. "Your partner ran off on us."[/b] "So did Jace and Lallek."[/b] Rachel countered. "And we're all listening to thier plans."[/b] Rowan smiled; looking Rachel right in the eye. "Rachel didn't run because she didn't see the sense in fighting, like I think Lallek and Jace did. Rachel ran because she was scared. Little girl cried and all. And I'm not saying anythings wrong with crying when killer crows are hunting you; but she ran because she was scared to fight. Which means she's a liability. A liability we are literally carrying."[/b] Rachel continues; her smile long gone stale. "You stood with us when you only had one leg to stand on. I like you, but yes, I'm watching that girl. And you know what?"[/b] Rowan's voice dropped an octave. "I think you should too. If she hadn't frozen at Cornocopia; you wouldn't have gone for her- and you wouldn't have taken that arrow."[/b]
Pearl blinked; taken aback. She stared at Rowan for a minute; glancing questionably towards Jasmine and Rory. She glances over to Rachel; whose glaring at Rowan.
Rowan stares right back at Rachel; slowly straightening with her water pot. "Maybe you could do something useful."[/b] Rowan suggests; extending the pot. "You can boil water, can't you?"[/b]
Rachel's jaw clenches. She's angry; its clear to see. But she bites her lip; looking at Rowan, her eyes flicking to the axe at Rowan's hip. It still glistens with the blood of crows.
Micha quietly slips behind Jace; her expression apprehensive. "I want to hear the plan." She echoes Rory. Perhaps a bit desperately.
Tank got to work on Micha's shoulder wound almost immediately, putting cloth, bandages, ointment and sutures to good use, his large fingers surprisingly gentle and nimble as he tended to Micha's injuries. As the announcement flared up in the sky, Tank briefly paused his efforts to look up at the faces of the fallen. "Alright, think I've done all I can do..." Tank informed Micha.

`Lots,`She muttered quickly, looking at the screen. These games were going good so far, but still Raya was un sure about the whole thing. To let all tributes in an alliance come home, that might be many and that might not be so much fun for the tour but the chance to have all the tributes from District 4 coming back; that would be nice.
`So what do you think of the games so far?"

"I'm worried about Pearl," Coral confessed. "-Lallek took out all that tessarae so her family would be all right; and now she's injured." "Not badly." The boy countered. "That big guy seems pretty handy with a first aid kit." "I don't know." Coral frowned. "What do you think, Raya? Do you have a favorite to win the Games?"

Kingston looks at the screen and watches the faces of the fallen. Both District Threes and both District Fives in one day. As he begins to think about the action during the games he hears the announcement that booms through the arena. "Hello, tributes... there will be a rule change for the 25th Hunger Games. There will be more than one victor. An alliance will be allowed to survive... how many members allowed in the surviving alliance will be announced..." He can tell this is truly bringing astonishment not only to the tributes but to the districts as well. "Well that certainly is a big change." He says. He certainly is glad that with all the action in the 25th Games that he isn't in it this year.

"The quarter quell should have more survivors." Someone says. "They took 36 tributes. They have to give us something -" "Shh." Someone whispers; glancing for Peacekeepers. "Don't say that, they don't have to do anything. We just need our tributes to get in that alliance..."

"No, I don't really have a favorite to win...." She said quietly, still glaring at the screen with full focus. "But you know I really wish I could win a game, that would be fun. I guess I am trained for it. What about you?" She casually asked, taking a large sip of her ice cold water.

"I wouldn't want to go in." Coral confided. "It looks terrifying. Between the crows in the forrest and now that dinosaur thing in the wasteland... I'd rather stay here. Although watching is hard."
She looks over to where Pearl's little sister stares at the screen. "Especially for the family."
As you watch; you note that the Miller's adult daughter; Margot; has approached your table. She is worried inspecting an empty grain bag with a hole gnawed through the bottom of it. She looks perplexed.

Kingston looks at the screen again. So many people just seem to be taking the games into their thoughts when most of them don't even know the people on the screen. He doesn't bring it into his thoughts much, seeing as though he doesn't know them. Kingston can tell it gets to his sister though. Emily doesn't even know the tributes and lets it get to her head. Kingston stands up. He hears people jabbering on about how we need our tributes in the alliance. Kingston rolls his eyes.

Margot notices Kingston and walks closer to him. She lowers the damaged grain bag to her side.
"Whats the matter, Kingston?" She glances to the screen; frowning at the developments. "It looks like the district 7 and Jasmine are leaving them in the middle of the night. They'll have less protection; but they don't seem to want the alliance any more."
She frowns at Kingston's expression. "Why are you rolling your eyes?"

A girl walks up to Kingston. "Whats the matter, Kingston?" She asks him. With all of District 4 left he doesn't understand why people are so worried. It's not like we ended up like 2, 3, or 5. I don't understand why people are so worried! We still have all our tributes!" He said. He then realized he might have said that a bit too loud, seeing people glaring at him. "It looks like the district 7 and Jasmine are leaving them in the middle of the night. They'll have less protection; but they don't seem to want the alliance any more. Why are you rolling your eyes?" She continues. Kingston kind-of ignores the question and looks back at the screen, watching to see what Jasmine is up to.

Margot follows his gaze to the screen. "Well, I know that I am worried about Jace and Lallek being alone. The five tributes barely fought off those crows - and they killed Abigail. And I'm worried that District 7 has become angry with Lallek. They may try and kill him." Apprehension is in her eyes. She clutches the torn grain bag with both hands.

Kingston can sense the girl's nervousness. "Well, I know that I am worried about Jace and Lallek being alone. The five tributes barely fought off those crows - and they killed Abigail. And I'm worried that District 7 has become angry with Lallek. They may try and kill him." She said. He realized what he said. He knew that if he were in the games he'd want people to root for him, even if they didn't know him. He appologizes. "Sorry." he says in a slightly softer tone than usual.

Margot shakes her head. "Its how the Games always are... but I always get nervous when its our tributes on screen." The woman watches the bird attack with white knuckles clutching the sack. She finally exhales as Jace and Lallek reach the Cornucopia and Pearl is shown with the Big Alliance in the Frozen Tundra.
"Its so dangerous going back to the Cornucopia." Margot frowns. "I wish there was some way for the tributes to learn about what happens after they leave. There can't be a highlights segment?"
The woman frowns.
Suddenly; the image on the screen changes from Lallek and Jace planning. The camera is overhead; centering on a lone figure in a snow covered landscape. It pans in to reveal Rachel looking through a pair of binoculars. The camera follows Rachel as she moves to a section of trampled snow. She lifts the edge of the 'snow' and reveals a hidden lean to made with a tarp and concealed in a snow drift. It looks nearly imperceptible against the white landscape.
The girl sits in her hidden lean to and rubs her arms; keeping warm.
"Oh, I wonder who she is spying on." Margot breathes.

Margot doesn't seem to hear Kingston's comment, or she's now ignoring it. "Its how the Games always are... but I always get nervous when its our tributes on screen." She says. Kingston responds with a simple nod. "Its so dangerous going back to the Cornucopia. I wish there was some way for the tributes to learn about what happens after they leave. There can't be a highlights segment?" Margot continues.
Before Kingston has the chance to respond, he sees his sister, Emily, stomping off from an arguement with another girl that looked a bit older than her. "What happened Emily?" Kingston asks his ten year old sister.

Margot watches the girl approach and turns to look at the older girl. "That's Addison March." She notes. "The baker's girl." "She keeps going on about how great Pearl is." Emily replies. "Lallek gave Pearl's family all this tessarae. She says that Pearl's mom is cooking up dinner and offering it down by her house. I don't believe her."
"I do know Lallek left a great deal of tessarae to Pearl; and some of the fishermen." Margot replied. "I'll leave you to it. I need to find someone who can rid me of rats in the store room.."

"That's Addison March." Margot says. "The baker's girl." Kingston sees her turn to the girl Emily was arguing with.
"She keeps going on about how great Pearl is." Emily says in response. "Lallek gave Pearl's family all this tessarae. She says that Pearl's mom is cooking up dinner and offering it down by her house. I don't believe her."
"I do know Lallek left a great deal of tessarae to Pearl; and some of the fishermen. I'll leave you to it. I need to find someone who can rid me of rats in the store room.." Margot says. Kingston finds this unfair. His parents are dead and he's the only one getting money and tesserae for his family. He's the reason his family has any food at all and then other people are going along and giving eachother tesserae! Kingston rolls his eyes at Addison.

Margot bids good bye to Kingston; muttering about needing help for the store room. Addison overhears and walks after her.
"Did you say you needed help?" The girl was nearly thirteen; with auburn hair. She was still short; standing at 5'5''. You recall that she was oldest daughter of the baker; who also had a ten year old son, Frost, and eight year old daughter, Sugar. She looked up to Margot; who at the age of twenty two stood at 5'8''. "Yes. The rats are getting into the bags in the store room." Margot replied; sounding distressed. "I need someone small who could go down and root them out. I'm sure father could spare some grain for whoever could help."

"Could she?" Margot turned and evaluated Kingston and Emily. Emily considered with a turn of her mouth that made Kinston think she might be contrary. But an extra bag of grain earned could be a great help to family this year. Maybe he should try and convince Emily to help before she turned down the job. Margot looked at Emily with a hopeful expression.
