After the first day of training and lunch, the tributes had a few more hours in the training center before they were told to have dinner with their mentor. Sorrel and Odin joined Jasmine as she entered the dining room. Priya was present, filling her plate with vegetables. The victor of one of the 8th Hunger Games, she looked in her late twenties; but seemed reasonably fit. Her green eyes were sharp, her long black hair braided and coiled at the base of her neck. Bran, the Victor of the 22nd Hunger Games, was only seventeen years of age now. He was whip - thin, although there was some strength in his arms. Priya gestured for the tributes to sit. "Get eating." She advised. "I hear that the District 1 male, Silver, was being an ass to some of the tributes today." Bran states. "Was he hasseling you?" Bran inquired. "He sure seeemd interested in intimidating people." Sorrel stated. The female from District 11 stood at 5'10'' and was whip thin. "His districts been killing our tributes for ages." Odin observed, somewhat bitterly. Fellow Tributes: Sorrel Odin

Jasmine sat down at at the table. She was sore from the unusual use of her muscles. She'd done exercises and worked in ways that never used some muscles while climbing. She was strong, but... shooting a bow for a couple hours left her arms aching to move. But move them she did and filled her plate with steamed vegetables and small cutlets of beef, and an entire wing of a chicken.
"He was pushy. Like, he didn't expect anyone who won't a career tuh get through th'tunnel today. We showed 'im up though." Jasmine speared a few veggies on her fork and shoveled them into her mouth. "We're gonna show him up though."

"How are you going to do that?" Priya inquired. "Were you successful in learning some useful skills in training today?"
"Your using the same script as when I was sitting on that side of the table." Bran remarked to Priya. "I waited thirteen years for you." Priya replied, rather reserved. "I don't want to wait thirteen more for another victor."
Odin and Sorrel glanced to one another; then to Jasmine. "What do you mean?" Sorrel inquired, her face curious.

She didn't want to talk about that. She knew just what Priya meant by that comment. District 11 didn't win often. She frowned, staring at the food on her plate, her appetite gone. She shoved the vegetables into her mouth, chewed, and tried to force her brother's ghost out of her mind. It didn't work and after she swallowed she blurted out:
"She means we die... a lot. Like my brother. She doesn't wanna wait a long time for another one of us to win." Jasmine speared a hunk of beef. "I'm a natural wit' the bow... Found out today. Trainer didn't even do much tuh train me. Might combine it wit' my climbin' skills. What do you think?"

Priya made no comment to show that she had heard Sorrel; but she nodded in agreement to Jasmine.
"Its a good idea. I would advise against direct confrontation; if you can. Silver's proven he's not shy and no doubt he's stronger than the ladies." She glances towards Odin; but made no comment either way. "A bow is a good weapon for stealth and you could always climb high and shoot at any one who tries to climb up after you. Now which stations has every one attended? What do you think of the tributes?"

Jasmine shoved food in her face, and set to chewing, even though she wasn't feeling terribly hungry. She felt she should probably keep herself very well fed until the food inevitably ran out. It also meant she could let her fellow 11 tributes answer first. Priya spoke true. She didn't expect to out muscle any of the male tributes. Out-climb them? Definitely. She was lighter than almost every male there, or at least looked like she was.
When it came back around to her, she answered. The interim had given her time to master her brief outburst. She pushed her brother back to the shady parts of her psyche, I love you bro... but hope I don't join you soon, and put a smile back on. "I hit the archery station and learnt how to tie knots up into snares. The latter took up a lot of time," she said bashfully. Her fingers were nimble, she'd pocketed enough apples and oranges before peacekeepers to prove that, but knots had eluded her for a long time. "The non-careers seem pretty sound..."

Sorrel stated that she had visited the Fire - making and First Aid station; while Odin stated that he had visited hand to hand and Sword training. Both nodded at her mention of the non careers.
"That one district 7 girl.. Roar? Rory?" Odin felt around for the name. "I saw her at the tree station. She can climb very well." "That Tank nearly hit Silver with a weight as well." Sorrel added. "What was that thing during lunch?"

"They're formin' an alliance all their own," Jasmine said quietly. She wasn't sure how her fellow district tributes would take the news that she'd joined the alliance as well. "You know... to help bring down the careers. Keep them from winning another game. I think it's a good idea."
She let out a little huff, nibbling on another forkful of beef mixed with veggies. She'd had bland food and for some reason, this suddenly lost all of its taste, even though before it'd been so rich she could hardly stomach it. She chewed, swallowed and muttered, "Was I wrong to make friends of 'em?"

"No. Alliances are the best thing that you can do right now." Priya advised. "There are so many tributes out there that you need someone to watch out for you. "
" You do need to be careful," Bran emphasized. " Sooner or later alliances break down. You need to decide when to cut your losses and leave - or when to turn on them."

Jasmine nodded. She knew that an alliance was a good thing, just... worried that her fellow tributes might see it as her abandoning them for complete strangers. Not that she'd known her fellow tributes for too terribly much longer than the group she'd met at lunch today. She focused on munching her food. The fact that the alliance would break apart was an inevitable truth, and she though: Which is why I put the stipulation to go quickly if I were dying at their hands in the alliance agreement. We all know that only one person comes out of this alive.
She dutifully continued to eat, saying, around a mouthful, "How do yuh know when's th'right time to cut'n'run or... stab'n'run, or whatever?"

"You need to keep your situational awareness." Priya explained. "Be certain to watch the anthem each night and keep current on whose still a rival. When the playing field begins to level out; you need to become more aware of your team - they may be thinking of abandoning or turning on you. Be certain that you take care of yourself, first. Have you thought about concealing some items on your person?"

Jasmine nodded, twirled the fork she held and slid it up her sleeve in a flourish. It wasn't fancy, nor as nicely done as earlier at lunch, but she'd effectively made the piece of silverware disappear. "Like that? Or were you talkin' about smugglin' something into the Arena? Is that even possible?"
She produced the fork again and speared another chunk of meat before stuffing it into her mouth.

"Smuggling into the arena isn't going to be possible." Priya stated firmly. "I meant concealing some items on your person. Maybe hidden and not disclosed to your alliance." She paused, guaging how Jasmine would respond to the suggestion.

Jasmine had the decency to pretend to look abashed that she'd suggested smuggling something into the Arena. She didn't feel abashed though, why not smuggle something special in if you could? But the iron in Priya's tone told her she wouldn't. Jasmine might have been able to smuggle the odd soft apple away from the orchards, but that was under far more 'ideal' circumstances.
She didn't exactly balk at the second idea, but it didn't immediately set well with her. She liked at least Femra, and Rory didn't seem bad either. She'd not considered concealing something from them. She hid most of her facial expression by quickly shoving more food into her mouth and mumbling around it.
"Ahm not thmght 'bout dat," she said, then swallowed. "I could do that... I mean, I do wanna come home at the end of this."

"You need to remember that they want to come home too. Its important to have allies - but eventually; they are going to die."
Bran's tone was flat; somewhat hollow.
"Its not going to be easy. Or come naturally. You seem like a nice person who likes your new friends. " His voice was hollow and sounded too old for his young body. "But your friends have an expiration date and if you get sentimental or lose your nerve - you'll be just as stone cold dead as they will be."

Jasmine frowned, openly, at Bran's hollow and flat voice. She didn't want to end up like that... it almost seemed worse than death, or a form of death itself, to be so... dead inside. She swallowed and nodded to his comments. She did like her new friends, most of them anyway, but also knew that they were gonna die. If it were by her hand, she'd do her best to make it quick. If it ended up being at the hands of a career, she hoped it would be quick, but expected it to be slow.
"Of course... We're all kinna like milk out 'ere. What do you suggest to," she found herself suddenly no longer hungry and put her fork down and pushed the plate away as she spoke, "keep meh nerve an' not get sentimental? How do I act fer the cameras without letting it become real?"
She already felt some of it was real... and hoped that the heat of combat in the Arena would wash much of it away.

"You have to think about your angle; always. Lock down your emotions as best as you can and focus on presenting yourself in the best angle." Bran replied; his expression looking pained. He wasn't enjoying giving this advice.
"But don't over think things. Take every bit of sleep you can get with your alliance; always replenish your water and food stores first before other considerations." Priya advised.

Jasmine nodded to the bits of advice. It was solid, and she didn't like it. She'd mastered her emotions, sort of, before and knew how to smile prettily with the best of them... But in the thick of the Arena? She hoped she could hold up.
She much preferred Priya's straightforward advice. Even if it were common sense stuff, it was worthy of thinking of beforehand. It was amazing how many people dropped common sense at the first opportunity. Jasmine didn't intend to be one of those.
"How will y'all know what to send me... us... from sponsors?" Jasmine asked quietly, still digesting the previous advice.

"It depends on how you are doing," Priya responded. "- I'd prefer to send you what you need. Medicine if you get hurt; a weapon if you lose one."
"Are you wanting any thing to be sent to you in the arena? Any thing specific?" Bran inquired.

Jasmine 'hmmed' thoughtfully. She didn't know what she'd need in the Arena. What she'd be able to grab from the Cornucopia before fleeing the bloodbath. If the Arena was a barren desert, she didn't want to spoil her chances now by asking for a bow and arrow that she might grab on the way out and need water later.
She looked to Bran. "Just stuff to keep me alive and going... if I need a weapon, well... I have a natural knack for the bow, but... likely I'll just need the basics... I can't say fer sure. I am open tuh suggestions though."

"The basics are what to keep an eye out for. There may be a small pack or small items on the outskirts of Cornucopia. Grabbing something as you depart isn't a bad idea; but lingering could be deadly."
"Then again-" Priya inserted. "Proper supplies could help you in the first few days when you'll be battling survivors of Cornucopia- and for relevance in the vids."

Jasmine nodded. She didn't think she'd be able to last terribly long on her own without supplies. She knew how to set snares and thought she might be able to catch some game. Or possibly shoot some game with her newfound natural archery skills... And if she charred something enough, it would be edible, right? At least not poisonous. And if there was fruit, well... she grew up picking fruit.
"Maybe a fire starter?" She murmured. If she couldn't start fires, how could she hope to cook whatever she caught. "If I don't get one to begin with, of course... But, really... need to play things by ear affer that."

"A fire starter." Priya nodded. "We'll be sure to send you one if you don't get one in the first few days. Remember the first day is likely the most dangerous and we won't be able to send things to you immediately. Stay aware, stay with your alliance and stay one step ahead - even of them."

Jasmine nodded. She understood that, and hoped that she'd be able to follow through with it. She was quick on her feet, slight of hand, and reasonably quick-witted. She didn't trust Jace, and figured Femra would lean on her. Best to watch them for when they intended to betray her. One step ahead. And one step ahead of her own tributes as well.
"Just... don't let me starve, okay? I'll manage best I can in the first couple days... but.. if I'm strugglin', dun let me starve."
