Nettle paces around the room; unsettled. His hair is rumpled from frequent fidgeting with his locks and he's sweating. Nettle ran all the way from the training center; and looks as though he might be sick.
"Calm down." Lyme advises flatly; with no real concern in her voice. "This isn't any different than last year. District seven tributes have some uncanny desire to stick together and watch each other die."
"They were planning." Nettle reminded; his voice a low hiss. "They were organizing with another mentor. If they bring all three of those tributes together with seven; we have a serious problem."
"We may have a serious problem." Lyme corrected dryly. "I don't see our tributes running headlong into mutations and battles. They'll avoid conflict. I'll bet on it."
"Yes..." Nettle replied; his tone mocking. "-because I'm sure there are plenty of bracelets placed just right so the alliances never run into each other." He leans across the table; staring into Lyme's face.
"We could get two victors. One for your district; one for mine. They might actually win it. Only there are four alliances; so we can't say 'all is fine'." He snaps. "We need to warn them."
Lyme reached into her desk; drawing out two small note cards perfect for parachutes.
"So warn him." She remarks; handing him one sheet. Lyme holds onto the other one; staring down on it.
"Its simple; Nettle. They just have to wait for the others to kill each other and pick the bracelets off their corpses. I'm not sure Jace really needs me to write that down."
"Yet if the fight goes horribly wrong and one alliance is still intact; there's still risk to Lallek and Pearl - and Jace."
Lyme smiles. Her eyes are glassy; emotionless. Nettle frowns at her; leaning in.
"Jace, Jace, Jace. You haven't forgotten Micha; have you?"
Lyme turns her head towards Nettle. Her fierce expression makes him lean away from her.
"No, I haven't forgotten her. I'm thinking very hard about her. About two or three. And in case you haven't realized it; one of our tributes isn't coming home. Not if you value this Jace ~ Lallek that actually has a chance."
Lyme leans in; finally smiling.
"One way or another; someone has to make a choice. I guarantee you; Jace is more likely to make the right one."
More likely than Micha? Or ... Lallek?
