Rory Noland: District 7
Rory’s hand trembles as she unclips an axe from her belt. She only has nine. She has to remember that. She only has nine. To Jasmine she nods, taking a deep breath and letting it out. If it was me, I’d want someone to have my back… someone I can trust.
"Okay. I have your back, Jaz." Rory whispers.
Rory turns around, snapping her fingers, trying to get the group's attention. Once everyone looks up, she points to the west with her empty hand, indicating that the safe route is to the west. With her weapon arm she point to straight ahead. They have a choice. West or North. But Rory has made her decision. She’ll stay.
Rory moves to a position will give her a straight shot if she has to aid Jasmine as well as give her alliance member a clear path if Jasmine needs to flee. Here we go.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine crouched on her branch, observing the birds and quietly noting the female tributes. Not Femra... not Sorrel, she thought. She had little desire to trek through the bird infested zone. And doubly so after watching one of the birds... steal the girl's knife. That wasn't good. Jasmine frowned. If they had the intelligence to swipe a weapon from someone, did they have the intelligence to use it against the newly disarmed tribute?
Jasmine didn't wait to find out. She turned around and quickly and quietly made her way back through the treetops to where she'd left Rory over the Alliance.
"The birds're big'n'mean'n'smart. Stole onn-a the girl's knives," she said quietly. "Ain't somethin' I wanna mess with if we can avoid 'em, but I'll stick by yer side if'n yuh insist on helpin' the wayward pair."
She then gave a quick verbal description of the two female tributes, enough to identify them to those who knew them. As far as Jasmine was concerned, they were neutral.

As Jace and Lallek moves away from the conflict, they walk beneath mature trees. For the first few minutes, the sounds of the murderous mutations and their effects on the girls made for hard listening. Soon the sounds faded and were replaced by silence. Had the mutations frightened the wild life into hiding? The ground was mostly even, flecked with green foliage. Moss lined the dark side of the trees, making them slick to the touch.
Trees stretched forward as far as the eye could see. How far was it to the Lake? Could you recall Rory's words? Thankfully you did have the direction that she had signaled to you. With Micha and Abigail delayed; perhaps you would be the first ones to the Lake. The thirst was becoming troublesome now. Time had passed since Cornucopia and you had been exerting yourself. Hopefully there would be no delays in reaching the lake...
Cannon! Cannon!
The cannon blasts signaled the deaths of two more tributes... yet whom would not be known until the Anthem that evening.

Jace Colton Two more cannons. How many more would they hear tonight? How many more would die? Hopefully, he and Lallek would be alive to find out, and as they pushed through the trees, to where there was moss and mature foliage, Jace could only be thankful that the sun wasn't beating down on them. It's nothing to keep an eye out for food. For things that they would eat. Food wasn't as important right now as water though, and the Lake was north. Give it a few minutes of walking, and to where they couldn't hear the fighting anymore and he makes a decisive turn that way. 2012-05-30 15:10:50 Jace Colton rolled 9 dice to "Wits + Survival + Edible Plants Specialty" 4,10,7,3,2,2,3,5,10,1,7 (2 successes) [Direction Sense] "This way. Pa said water is most important. We should figure out what we're doing once we get there." They weren't the only one's heading that way, and while right now survival was paramount, he had the feeling they'd have to defend the lake and their water source from Tributes who were using it as bait for others. ...Which was actually not a bad idea. "Even if we can't get to the Lake first, we can find water. There's moss on these trees. They're getting water from somewhere."

When the cannon fires twice more, Lallek doesn't look. He doesn't cringe. They were more enemies and Lallek has to not care. He has to pretend not to care. If he lets himself feel it he will... "No. Put it out of your head and help Jace look for food." His mind goes back to where it belongs, foraging. Food then water. He prays to himself that the food he finds isn't toxic and that the water is drinkable.
2012-05-30 22:23:54 Lallek Aldren rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Survival" 2,2,9,8,9,10,8 (5 successes)
As he forages, there is a noise and Lallek raises from his work and slides a knife into his hand. It was just Rachel though and his hand relaxes. Hiding the knife behind his back, Lallek waves to her with his other hand.

As Jace moved along the Forrest, he studies some of those green plants. They had shadows around them and the ground was moist, giving all the requirements for some white mushrooms to be growing. Jace gathered two fistfuls of the mush rooms, exhausting the supply. As the two moved further in, Lallek noticed a berry bush growing beside one of the larger trees. Moving around the tree, Lallek discovered a black berry bush laden with berries. The boys could pick for several minutes, running into the issue of where to put the berries that they were gathering...
Rachel looked miserable as she approached Lallek and Jace. Tear tracks streaked down her sweaty, dirty face. She reached out and plucked a berry, examining it dubiously.

As she crashed through the trees and he stood up, stuffing mushrooms in his pack, Jace did think about it.
He thought about it. Thought about grabbing the scythe he had strapped to his belt and pretending Rachel was that training mannequin. Thought about how killing her would put him one less person between him and being home in District 9.
One less person....
You can never go home again.
Tying his jacket around his waist so that he had the bag with the iodine tablets in it to hold their food?
He thought about it. Considered it. Kill her, so they wouldn't have to later but...
...The Careers were still out there, and they might need her. They might need a lot of those people out there to fight them off. In the end, they needed these people to die on the end of Career swords so that he and Lallek didn't have to.
Messed up to think of it that way, but that's the truth.
"We need to get to the lake." Because they needed to get there first. To have it at their back when they were finally found. When the Careers or whoever attacked inevitably did.

Jace's expression wasn't one that Lallek recognized. Rachel was one of them, what could possibly warrant such an expression? Of course Lallek wasn't pleased to see her either. She was a District 4 tribute and he was working hard to avoid them. Still they were in this together and for the sake of the cameras he was going to seem pleased enough.
Returning to his work, Lallek stripped the bush of its berries, tossing them into his pack and pockets as rapidly as he could. They very well may need these later on. Once the pack was stuffed he followed after Jace towards the lake, careful to keep an open ear as they traveled.

Rachel popped the berry into her mouth savoring the sweetness for a moment as she mutely nodded a reply to Jace. She glanced back towards the Forrest where the others were battling the birds with a conflicted expression. "We'll wait for the others at the Lake?" She asks, falling in step behind Jace. One of Rachel's qualities coming to light was her timidity. The girl would not step onto the path first; preferring to follow in someone else's foot steps. This means that if Jace and Lallek were covering tracks, someone else would be bringing up the rear. As the trio moves through the woods, the ground continues to slope downwards. The trees gradually become less numerous and the rocks become more plentiful. Finally the trio comes to the Lake, which has a rock bottom and is ringed with trees on the far side. The tribute's throats are parched now, but they have to remember that this water could be unsafe to drink. Would they use some of Jace's iodine tablets and wait half an hour; or perhaps start a fire to boil it? Go ahead and post to the Lake thread from now on.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine tracked the birds as they moved through the air, and were subsequently dropped out of the air by sword and thrown axe. She let out a breath that she didn't realize she was holding. It was over, for the moment at least. She eased the arrow forward and slid it back into her quiver, then followed Rory across the trees and down to the group. She was quiet looking at bloodied tributes. Abigail was worse, and not moving. She held her breath for a moment, then looked at Tank and Rory. Jasmine hadn't checked her pack yet and set her bow down, sliding it around. "She's not dead yet," Jasmine said quietly. The cannons hadn't fired, meaning another dead hadn't occurred. She sifted through her pack, but found no medkit. "Nothing here. Sorry, Tank." She closed the pack up, looking from Rory to Tank and to Rowan and then the bloodied form of Abigail and her friend Micha. "Everythin's gonna be okay." She didn't really believe it, looking at the fallen tribute. If she were alive, it wasn't by much, and she should likely be put out of her misery. Without a medkit to properly treat her wounds, she'd likely die slow. But Jasmine couldn't bring herself to suggest euthanizing the girl. She slid her pack back onto her back, and picked up her bow, giving a quick look around for her spent arrows. 4,2,3,9,5 (1 successes) She picked up one of the spent arrows and returned it to her quiver, though the other remained lost to her. As she looked back to the group gathered around the young district 9 girl, she watched her pass to a chorus of a cannon blast. She walked back. "We need tuh go," she said quietly. "Bringing the crows is a good idea, Rory... But there's nothin' more we can do fer her. We need water, an' the lake's not that much further ahead." She looked between the the other tributes. "I'm gonna check the trees again. We need som'body tuh watch out." She lightly touched Rory's shoulder then slung her bow and scaled the nearest tree, right back to her scouting spot to watch for danger once more. 5,2,8,4,9,4,2,3,1 (2 successes)

Rory Noland: District 7
"Thanks, Jaz... I'm going cover our backs, but I'll stay on the ground for now." Rory tells her... well... friend, giving Jasmine the rope that Tank had given her. She is a part of the team. Until Jasmine proves otherwise.
Another one I failed to save. Rory’s throat is tight and the cannon blast just feels like a vice clamping down on her neck. Her hand trembles as she puts it on Micha's shoulder, kneeling down next to her. With her free hand Rory, reaches out and closes Abigail's eyes, muttering a prayer for her, wishing her peace in the next life.
"Micha, she's gone. We can place her over there by those trees. Put her in the shade." Rory offers. "Then you can come with us. We're going toward the lake. Can we check Abby's pack, before we go Micha?"
Rory's trying to be as respectful as possible. Abby was Micha's district mate. She doesn't want to offend her.

"Abby..." The slim brunette chokes out a sob as Abby's eyes are closed for the final time. For several moments, tears streak down Micha's cheeks as the girl cries - for grief of losing her district mate, perhaps from relief of surviving the attack herself - maybe even some guilt for the very same fact. She doesn't seem to hear Rory; or if she does; Micha doesn't respond. Her gasps are stifled as Micha presses a hand to mouth; crying as quietly as possible. It's horrible to watch.
"Pack." Micha blinked hard, trying to focus. She made a nearly inaudible sigh. Her tone is laden with sadness as she speaks. "Yes... we'll need her things, won't we." Her voice cracks as she reaches out to Abby's body. She gently slips the strap from Abby's body, laying the girl back upon the ground. Micha places the pack beside Rory and reaches out, gathering Abby in her arms. She slowly lifts the child up from the ground; the weight making her unbalanced and slow to rise. Micha refuses any offers of help, carefully lowering Abby to the shade beneath the maple tree.
Micha stands and stares down at the girl for a beat. Without moving her head, she asks. "Jace... what happened to him?"
Pearl leaned back against a tree, wiping the sweat from her brow. The fight has exerted the group; and the thirst is a pressing need now. Rowan glanced to Rory at the question, but gestured to Tank.
"How bad is my face?" She gestures to her forehead. Two talon marks have left a three inch long gash across Rowan's forehead. It looks nasty, but shouldn't be serious if treated.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine crouched in the trees above the grieving group. She looked around, scouting about before moving forward toward the lake and leading the way among the trees. Though she wasn't able to spot much along the way. 4,3,4,4,7 (0 successes)

Rory Noland: District 7Micha’s reaction is gut-wrenching. Rory has to mute her own cries, turning her back away from her district mates, as she gnaws on her bottom lip. She looks down at her wound. Her left sleeve has a red stain on it. She almost can’t process it. It’s almost unreal. But the pain is still there. Mild, nothing serious. But it’s that pain that lets her know she’s still alive. With Rory’s offers to help being rebuffed by an ever-determined Micha, she has time to look at what kind of supplies Abby had. Her head snaps up when Rowan asks Tank how her face looks. Rory’s concern is clear in the way she reacts to Rowan’s words. "We need to find or buy a med kit." Rory says to herself more than to anyone else. Rowan can’t die. She can’t die. She can’t die. Rory’s throat tightens again. She wants so badly to lose it, to wail wordlessly, to curse the games, and tell everyone that she wants to go home. But Rory bites down on her lip, hard. She will not break down here. Micha’s question grabs Rory’s attention. She studies the girl for a moment trying to figure her out. Rory Noland rolled 6 dice to "Empathy/Feeling Micha out" 5,8,7,1,8,6 (2 successes) "Jace is alive as far as I know. He might be at the lake by now. That was always the plan." Rory doesn’t want to tell Micha what Jace had done even after he found out that it was her and Abby being attacked. She can’t bring herself to demonize Jace just yet. "We need to get to the lake... Rowan or Tank... do you know if we can use these iodine tablets to clean out a wound? Probably would hurt, tho."

Peeking within Abigail's pack reveals that it is very light - it bears a flashlight with batteries and small fishing kit containing a hook and a spool of fishing line. As the alliance discusses where to go - the Lake - and the new development of Micha joining the group, puffs of white begin to appear in the sky. The five parachutes soon lower to the ground, dropping beside thier intended owner. One of the parachutes drifts towards Jasmine, becoming snagged on an outstretched limb. Pausing to examine its contents would yield a finely crafted compound bow, 10 more arrows and Tin of Jerky containing five portions.
Rory discovered a parachute besides her foot that contained a finely crafted hand axe and a tin of jerky with five portions within. Rowan prodded her parachute open with her sword, drawing out a finely crafted axe, a packet containing six water purification pills and a woodland camoflagued plastic tarp.
"Any one want a sword?" She asks the group, exchanging the sword for the axe on her belt.
Pearl pulled out a brace - which she quickly donned. Her injured leg seemed to support her weight better as she took an experimental few steps around her tree.
Micha looked in her bag without much delight, quietly slipping a water skin onto her belt and slipping a pack of throwing knives into her pack.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine moved along the branches and paused as she saw a sponsor chute float down from the sky and become entangled in the trees ahead. After a quick glance down below, and a moment of watching her fellow tributes receive gifts as well.
Jasmine hopped to the tree holding her gift and scaled the handful of branches to what she assumed was her sponsor gift. She wondered what her mentors had sent her. She'd not honestly expect to receive anything the first day. She crouched on the branch and set to opening the gift.
Joy at the food, her mentors had listened to her plea not to be left to starve was listened to, and the new bow as well as more arrows pushed out the nervousness and moments of sorrow and possible loss of friends and associates. She hadn't felt bad when Abigail died, but it had brought back the possibility that the cannon shots meant that people she did care for -- Femra, Sorrel, Odin, -- were gone for good. She stored the portions of jerky in her pack, added the arrows to her quiver, and slung her old bow, figuring she could donate it to someone else, and climbed back down to her previous spot.
"'Ey guys, just lemme know when y'all are ready an' I'll head out ahead an' scout," she called down the the tributes on the ground. In truth, she was thankful for the brief respite from traveling.
