Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” “Naw, Charmin’,” Ember replied to her alliance mate. “If you wanna help, you can help me check that bump on your noggin.” She flashes the sweetest smile she can muster. But even that, on Ember darkens those grey eyes of hers. Under normal circumstances, Ember wasn’t the friendly type. She wasn’t warm and fuzzy and making civil conversation just wasn’t in her skill set. She didn’t need it in her. At least she never thought she’d need it in here. Ember never thought she’d make friends in a place like this. Ember glanced at Jan. We’re not friends... You couldn’t call someone a friend if you know they will kill you without a second thought. Ember actually didn’t have a word for that. All she knew is that she trusted him at her back. She didn’t know what to call that. Friend was both too familiar and same time not intimate enough for them. “Brass, I’ve gotta see to my prince here, first. You’ve got Eclypse here for you.” Ember said, she went to move and she grimaced. Ember wasn’t as hurt as some of her people but she got tagged twice. Ember extinguished the cigar as the Victory Dance was over. She tapped her vest. The cigar and lighter was there where she had put it. “You talkin’ about Broody and his peep, or me and mine, Sweetness?” Ember asked, raising an eyebrow at the girl. She looked at Brass, her expression neutral. Felix and Sassinak were hurt and bad. Brass would die for that. “What do you guys wanna do about Broody and Friends?”She glanced at Jan and took a deep breath before she turned to Jasper. “Grumpy, you think and Sweetpea can wrestle up some grub? I’ll see to those burns after I’m done with Charmin’ here.”Ember drank deeply from her water skin her movements a little stiff. She nodded to the rain. “Where do you think it's that rain,” Ember asks to no one in particular. Ember Clay rolled 7 dice to "Int+Med+2+1 (Jan’s Head)" 5,9,7,3,9,2,6 (2 successes) Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Wits+Comp (What's the Rain Doing)" 7,7,8,4,9,6,3,6 (2 successes) Hit Points: 16/21 Willpower: 5/6

Glory glanced over to Ember. "Someone blinded Brass. It was either one of the fives...or the sevens..." Glory sounded skeptical. "Or someone circled back from running off. Last thing we need is a jackal going through our stuff."
Eclypse stepped closer, inspecting Brass' foot. "Glory, some assistance. Get some bandages from Ember, would you?"
Glory reached over and took a roll of bandages from Ember; then sat down across from Brass. The two worked in tandem to remove the shoe and knife with minimal blood loss and discomfort. Eclypse rolled 7 dice to "Brass' foot (with Glory's help)" 8,1,10,9,3,8,5,1 (4 successes)
Once Brass' was bandaged, she leaned back against the horn. She noted the slackening in the rain and observed: "We can make a run for the factory soon. How high is that fence?"
As she speaks, the steady drumming on the roof of the horn begins to lighten up. Isolde and Jasper lean out to look around the careers, spotting the lightening rain. Isolde discreetly shrugged back into her backpack. Jasper took the duffel from Isolde and set it across his lap; ready to run at a moments' notice.
Isolde found a bag of fruit and passed out fruit to every one. She found a jug of water and filled her skin; passing that around for refreshment as well.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer Tribute: The Boy with the Capitol Good Looks
Jan didn't eat apples. Not anymore. He pointedly took an orange from Isolde, peeling it and eating while he sat still and let Ember look at his head. It hurt, but at least he didn't have a concussion, and he had a renewed desire to head after Lacey and her little group of losers to kill them from a nice safe distance. There was no way he was going to let her within melee range with that staff again. No way. He noted the wincing though. The fact that Ember was obviously hurt, and when she finished with him he all but physically insisted she sit down and let him take a look. In short order, he's got her wrapped up and has turned his attention to his District Partner and Jaspar. 2012-12-05 22:44:29 Jan Colton rolled 5 dice to "Medicine + Intelligence + 1 (On Ember)" 6,4,9,10,6,9 (3 successes) Acid burns. They'd have to let him look those over. As it stood, the rain was stopping. They needed to get the heck away from the Careers, and soon... ...And seemed someone was hellbent on going after Felix and his group in that factory. Which meant their alliance had to get there first. 2012-12-05 22:52:28 Jan Colton rolled 8 dice to "Who Can Lie? Jan Can." 9,8,2,5,5,10,7,1,4 (3 successes) "We should go after Lacey's group." There's a meaningful look to Ember, even if he's still finishing wrapping up her up. "Four of 'em. I want to give her the other half of her smile. She didn't let me finish.
"What do you think, Sunshine?"

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” They might have trained Glory to fight, but she had no idea how to hunt. Ember wasn’t about to give her any pointers. She wouldn’t say that leaving the wealth here, getting out of sight, and waiting for a jackal was a lot easier than hunting one. Jackals were crafty buggers. It was always best to take them out in a way was when the hunter could control almost every aspect of the encounter. But again, Ember wasn’t going to give Glory any tips. All she knew is that they needed to break away from these guys and meet up with Felix, Lily, and the others. Because it seemed that the Careers weren’t going to rest until Felix and his people were dead. That Ember couldn’t allow. Not because she particularly cared. Outside of the Jas, Izzy, and Jan, no one else’s well-being mattered to her. But in a way Felix and his people were hers. And no one ****ed with her things. No one. She grumbled through Jan patching her up. Ember didn’t like someone helping her out. The kids from the poorer districts understood. The kids from the poorer districts who were also poor would understand better. It was about being self-sufficient; never asking for help from anyone. Still if Ember could trust anyone to patch her up, it’d be Jan. “Thanks Charmin’,” Ember muttered. “But I’ll try not to make these little healing sessions into a habit. Hope you’re not too broken up ‘bout that.” Ember accepted Isolde offer of food, graciously. She ate quickly, not bothering to trying to taste what was given to her. Ember knew she needed something in her stomach. Because it was going to be a long night. Jan’s face says it all… She gave him a slight nod. Whatever he was selling, Ember was on board for it. The careers were thinking of scaling the fence to get to the other members of her alliance. Hopefully, Jan was the man with the plan. Ember smiled. “Sounds good with me, Charmin’. We take out Lacey and the other three will be easy pickin’s.” Ember replied. “Here, Sweetness,” Ember said to Glory, giving her a roll of clean bandages. “We’re going to use the rest on Sweetpea and Grumpy. The rain got ‘em pretty good.”She glanced between Jan, Jasper, and Isolde. “Alright, Grumpy, you’re up. Lemme look at those burns” Ember said to Jasper. She didn’t need to look to Jan to know he’d help her. And she didn’t think he’d need to ask for her help when they worked on Isolde. Ember Clay rolled 7 dice to "Int+Med+2+1 (Jasper’s Burns)" 6,8,1,8,7,3,5 (2 successes) Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer Tribute: The Boy with the Capitol Good Looks
"Works for me. I want her dead." Not a lie. Not in the slightest. He really did want her dead, if only because it meant that it was one less person to the end, and one more noch in his belt. She died, and he'd be one step closer to showing all of Panem the monster they created.
"We can leave the people in the Factory to them." Jan glanced over his shoulders at the Careers. "They're utterly obsessed with getting at those Tributes, and they're willing ot waste their time going over that fence to do it when Felix and Crew will just bleed out or die of starvation and thirst given enough time. It's not like they have supplies.
"We should just go into the Ruined City. Go do some real hunting."
With that, Jan stabbed the knife with Lacey's ichor on it into the dirt at their feet, giving Ember, Isolde, and Jaspar a meaningful look before he turned his hand and pushed down, bringing up a bit of the dirt. He picked a bit of it up, running it through his fingers the way he--a farmboy--would in order to test the consistency of the soil.
"Let them have their hunt, and we can have ours'."

"Obsessed? One of them clipped Brass." Glory pointed out sharply. "One could say you were obsessed with finishing your smile." There was a silence as Glory's barb hung. The acid rain had completed its nasty cycle. Glory stood and moved to the opening of the horn, throwing out the crust of her sandwich. It hit the ground and sizzled. "Some residue on the ground." She says to the others. After a few minutes of waiting, the sun began to poke out from behind the cloud cover. Now that the sky was clear, one could see that the sun was sinking down to the horizon. One or two more hours and the tributes would be overtaken with darkness. Glory took a tentative step outside and retracted her foot, inspecting the sole of her shoe. No effect from the rain. "I saw Lacey and the group take off to the city." Isolde shared, shouldering her packs. Jasper stooped to take two quivers of arrows and shouldered his new bow. "Ready whenever you are." The rest of the fruit in the bag - at least a handful - was slipped into Isolde's bag. "You two head for the gate." Glory told Victoria and Eclypse, stooping to overturn a crate. She found a sleeping bag and held it out to Victoria. "See if that will help you get over the barbed wire. If not, we can look for a shovel or wire cutters." "You can go with them." Bogart stated. "I'll be with Brass." "As will I." Glory stated flatly, offering to help Brass up. "Turkey sandwich, Brass. We have time for you to eat before we head out. Might be hunting through the night." Victoria sprinted towards the factory, not looking back. Eclypse loped into a jog after her, bag over his shoulder. Bogart and Glory stood beside Brass. To beat Victoria to the gate, its going to be a ath + stam -2; as Jan and Embers group has more distance to cover Victoria rolled 4 dice to "Running to the #1 Factory fence" 6,3,10,7,8 (2 successes
As Jan and Ember's group prepared for their plans, a bag with the district nine emblem floated down. Within, Jan found a quiver of finely crafted arrows that smelled just a little spicy. The bag was tightly crafted to the arrows; almost as to appear to only contain that. Yet there was more weight to the bag and Jan could spy the handle of something underneath the quiver.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy with the Capitol Good Looks "The difference being, Sweet Cheeks, that one of your boy's attackers is blind and maimed and the other is without an arm. They have absolutely no supplies and are holed up in a Factory, whereas mine are mostly completely functional, and have managed to grab things to kill people with."Boy, was she stupid. Thank The One he didn't have to deal with her much longer. He heard that brand of...whatever was contagious. Last thing he needed was to catch it. "Time to get going."Victoria and Eclypse took off at a run toward the gates, and Jan tried his best to not swear under his breath as he packed up his own things and went to head off. Thankfully, he didn't have to, with that parachute coming down. I have the smartest mentor ever.Jan caught the thing, looking at it as they made their way toward the Ruined City. Best to not seem too excited about it, even as he put the quiver over his shoulder and kissed the District 9 Token. "Best. Sponsor. Ever. Much love for you." It looked like it was meant for Isolde, and the arrows likely were, but what else was in that quiver was meant for him, and Jan knew they needed to move, and move fast. Still, he doesn't hesitate to wave at...wherever. There was a camera around here somewhere. Had to play it up. "Let's take a walk--or a run. Don't want Lacey and her cronies getting too far ahead." He said it to his whole alliance, showing the quiver to Isolde and letting her look down inside it as he raised his eyebrows. "Lyme came through." He winked, nodding toward the Ruined City. "Let's go."2012-12-06 05:42:09 Jan Colton rolled 6 dice to "Athletics" 8,2,7,8,6,7 (2 successes)

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember's expression darkens when Glory speaks. Her arms tense, her left hand clenched into a fist. Her palms begin to itch, tingle almost with the need of having something in her hands. A cigarette would have done nicely then. A knife would be better. But Ember wouldn't risk it. Not while she was surrounded by enemies in a den of wolves. Still, Glory, Eclypse, and Victoria would all need to be put down before they took out Brass. Then she'd hunt him like a puma... carefully, quietly, and preferably out of the reach of his claws. She glanced at Glory when she spoke of hunting through the night. And almost cursed. Ember instead looked down, closed her eyes like she was tired, and mentally prepared herself for the long night. If the Careers were out there, it meant they'd have to stay hidden. Perhaps they could... No. Ember stopped the idea as it formed. She'd share it with the others when they were safely away. Until then, she had to figure out what Jan was trying to say with the knife. Dig. He wanted them to dig. Ember nodded, through her frown. Though she came from a mining district, the idea of digging was not something Ember was looking forward to. Her father had been a miner before the accident, her mother still was. Both of them hated digging as much as their youngest daughter did. But Jan's plan was solid. They'd just need a way to block the tunnel and conceal it. Ember stood as the rain let up, and collected their gear. Whatever was left behind, found it's way into Ember's hands. She looked at Victoria and nodded. It was a slight sign of respect. For Ember did, in some strange way respect Victoria, and wanted to wish her luck on her hunt. “No offense, Princess,” Ember told her. “But here's to hopin' we don't cross paths again. However, if we do, just so you know, your mentor is on my list, but you and yours, you have my respect.” It was the closest thing Victoria was going to get to a compliment from Ember. But don't think that means, I won't hesitate to kill ya, Princess… She looked at Jan and smiled. “Let's do this...” Ember took off last, after Jan, Isolde, and Jasper. Weighted down by the gear, Ember wasn't as fast as she would have liked. And because she knew she was falling behind, Ember began to work on moving quietly. If she wasn't going to get there before the careers, she didn't want them hearing her. Ember Clay rolled 4 dice to "Sta+Ath-2" 6,5,6,6 (0 successes) Ember Clay rolled 6 dice to "moving silently" 7,7,7,10,10,10,5,6,9 (4 successes) Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

Jan led the way towards the ruined city, cutting across a three foot wide path that led towards the city. There were several buildings twenty feet away, squat one story buildings with closed doors, single windows and overhanging palm trees. The city was already being overtaken with shadows, stretching out from the palm trees and tiptoeing out from the eaves of the home. Forty feet away, Jan, Ember and company saw two story buildings with many windows overlooking the jungle. The tall building towers above even these tall buildings; a days walk into the distance. Moving from the palm trees and green undergrowth that lines the ruined city, Jan leads the way towards the factory. Ember falls the farthest behind with Jasper and Isolde several yards behind Jan. As he crosses the open space towards the factory, he sees Victoria streaking towards the factory main entrance. Did she see him? She was only in sight for an instant. Reaching the factory, Jan found the second gate securely locked and no key in sight. The nine foot high wire fence was topped with three layers of barbed wire.

Brass Power, District 2 Male Brass sat and listened. He worked on the axe wound that Felix had dealt him while Glory and Eclypse tended his foot. His attention was less than accurate when he worked on his arrow wound. He got the arrow out of his leg, discarded it, but didn't make the damned thing stop throbbing. He accepted the sandwich from Victoria and ate in silence, contemplating how best to win. He still had a decent enough shot at it, especially if it came down to him and Ember, and she held true to her promise before the games began. He felt he could take any one of the tributes sitting around him, though it would be an uphill battle. He listened to the rain and the conversation, and then the departure of the others. He took Glory's hand and stood. If he were capable of being touched, he might be that Bogart wanted to stay behind as well. After standing he felt his way around the armor left behind and selected pieces to put on. "Was a lucky shot that blinded me, and I'm far from out." He strapped on armor, pausing to feel out a length of cord before continuing. "Seven and Five are in the factory. I doubt they'll stay there if they know what's good for them, especially with us coming in force."After armoring up, and sliding the +3 langswert into place, he tied off Kingston's head onto his belt. "Best we join the festivities."Brass Power rolled 7 dice to "Arrow Wound" 7,1,2,2,1,5,5 (0 successes) Brass Power rolled 7 dice to "Side Wound" 3,7,9,3,10,5,6,4 (2 successes)

As Glory and Bogart prepared to leave the Bath with Brass, two parachutes drifted down to the horn. One bore the district two emblem and contained a helm with eye protection and a +4 knife that Glory favored. Glory donned the helm as she described the contents to Brass. "Your chute must be on its way.." She stated, sheathing her +3 knife at her side and carrying her +4 knife.
Bogart opened his parachute to discover a set of nice armor- including eye protection. He donned the armor slowly, spotting a piece of paper adhered to the interior chest of the chest plate. Glancing to see Glory glancing skyward, he discreetly read the note. Comprehending it, he pressed the note into his pocket.
Glory took Brass' arm and began escorting him towards the factory. Bogart fell into step besides Brass; glancing towards Glory. She held the knife in her hand, looking forward.

"Must be, unless they've decided I'm a lost cause. Just have to prove 'em wrong. To the factory. We've rats to chase out." He slipped Glory's hand on his arm and moved his hand to her shoulder. Better to have her with both hands free... and it put him behind her rather than at the side or in front. He gave a smile. "There's more blood to be spilt before the day's out."
He moved with his two escorts in the direction of the factory.

Brass, Glory, Eclypse and Victoria neared the horn. Glory glanced in to make sure that the gear was still there and considered the ideas that Victoria and Eclypse had made. Ecypse took one of the night vision goggles and climbed atop of the horn, staring out to the factory, jungle and ruined city. He laid down flat against the horn on his belly, propped up. Prone, he would be harder to see and pick off.
Glory filled water skins and partook heartily of hers; considering the plan. "Who should go on the attack team? I don't want to leave Brass alone with Bogart." She turns towards Brass. "What do you think of him?"

"Cat got your tongue? " Glory asked Brass. The others crouched inside the horn and Victoria collected two cans of chicken and rice and the cooking set. She used the small portable stove to heat up the soup; passing it around to the group. The carers ate well and drank thier fill. Victoria filled a bowl and announced that she was going to relieve Bogart.
Bogart joined the group at the horn, eating his share of dinner heartily. He glanced at the quiet Brass with curiousity.
"We going after the Littles?"
"Think we'll venture into the Jungle." Glory announced. "You want to go?"
"Of course." Quick, eager. Glory smiled, looking over to Eclypse. "Go and get Victoria. Remember to be smart about it." That was her own private joke and she laughed a little.
"Brass, I'm taking a pair of goggles and lying on top of the horn. I can hear you if you feel like talking. I'll be able to see the others if they come this way."
Eclypse and Bogart went to go collect Victoria. Armed to the teeth, they entered the Jungle. Glory took a bow and a quiver - her sword and knives still strapped to her body - and laid atop of the horn, standing guard. She looked prepared and formidible.
The cameras cut to the jungle. Savannah was leading Marsh along the jungle, moving carefully and quietly. Savannah had set a snare along a game path and was searching for another good place for a second one. The two had paused for a drink when a snapping sound made Savannah jerk. The two glanced around warily. Savannah gripped the old growth tree behind them and vaulted upwards. Savannah rolled 7 dice to "climbing tree" 8,6,8,3,5,6,10,9 (4 successes)
The heavier brother squatted on the ground, watching the jungle. The sounds were approaching. The spectactors watched as the three careers moved with a purpose, rapidly closing the space between them and Savannah and Marsh. Savannah tied the end of a rope securely around a branch and dropped it down to her brother. He attempted to climb, but had less experience than his nimble sister. The careers broke onto the scene with a whoop.
Marsh quit the rope and crashed through the jungle, knowing when he was on the losing end of a fight. Savannah drew up the rope, using it to swing after her brother. Bogart collided with Marsh, bringing him down onto the jungle floor. The little tribute in the trees unleashed her throwing dart and it sank into the meat of Bogart's shoulder. He bellowed and Marsh took advantage.
Savannah rolled 7 dice to "Throwing knives [Bogart]" 5,10,8,5,3,7,4,10,8 (4 successes) Marsh rolled 7 dice to "Brawling with Bogart" 10,7,4,10,6,1,7,9,3 (3 successes)
Bogart went down in a heap and Marsh disengaged, once again running off into the jungle. Savannah surveyed the careers below, noting how Victoria inspected the dart that she plucked from Bogart. The girl crouched low to the tree, holding her breath. The careers spread out, checking behind tree trunks. Savannah longed to join her brother, but steeled herself to remain still. She prayed that he would find a place to hide.
Glory rolled 5 dice to "Perception" 7,9,2,10,1,5 (2 successes) Savannah rolled 6 dice to "Hiding in the tree" 8,5,5,2,10,9,6 (3 successes)
After several moments, the careers trudged beneath Savannah, heading back to the horn. Savannah peeked down below, waiting until the careers were out of sight. She counted to sixty and scurried down the tree, hurrying in the direction that her brother had gone. Savannah came onto a wiggling, writhing form suspended above her, dangling from a tree. With shock, she realized Marsh had been caught in a trap...

Brass Power, District 2 Male
Brass returned to the horn with Glory, well aware of the turn in direction instead of heading out to the factory as he had stated. He remained silent, however. His handicap meant he'd not really be able to move around the arena. He might still be a danger to anyone willing to stand up and fight him, but that was a long shot. But planning was good. Maybe they'd seen something that needed to be discussed.
He listened to the others, and was about to give his opinion when the other three decided to leave for the jungle. He took a breath and let it out slowly. Whoever'd gone away to the jungle might have already set up traps or be lying in wait. At least at the factory they knew what was there.
He waited for the others to leave before speaking.
"There's lots of options, starting with possibly smoking the factory out. Setting it to fire, if it's an option. simply starving them out, though that would take more time than we have. And a siege isn't exactly in our best interest, which means making them uncomfortable is. If Victoria saw correctly and Jan, Ember, Isolde, and Jasper have all joined up with them, that's a problem. It puts sheer numbers on their side. Even if they keep to the truce, not that I'd hold it to them now, even though I would, it puts four warm bodies in the way.
And I don't like the numbers stacked quite as much as they are against us with all of them. The non-career districts have been gunning for us since the get-go. That much is obvious with Nine and Twelve hooking up with the bunch in the Factory. Question remains, though, what to do about it. A head on conflict won't go well for us. Gotta be smart about this. Setting fire to the building would possibly flush them out in confusion and panic. But only if the building is flammable.
What're your thoughts? Especially about the group going to the jungle?"

"Bogart wants to kill things. Victoria seems to want to look at everything and lay out plans. Who would guess she's such a stickler. Eclypse likes to talk and weigh in, but he's slow on his feet. I'm glad he's out there hunting. Might pull Victoria aside when they get back and see if he does something useful."
Glory shrugged, not that Brass could see it. Realizing that, she elaborated.
"I wouldn't mind hunting some of the others in the Jungle and the city. But I'm not leaving your side. Bogart seems to be your new best friend, but I don't know him well. He doesn't talk much. I can't get a read on him."
There was a scuffling sound over Brass' head as Glory straightened atop the horn.
"I see three figures heading back to us. I recognize Victoria. No cannons which doesn't make me happy. I hope we weren't embarrassed. After last games, I want to bring what people expect from a career."

Brass ate as Glory spoke. He straightened at her descriptions of their alliance mates. He didn't truly trust any of them, but would have to rely on them to get around.
"No cannons means no deaths on either side. As for giving a good show of what a career can do," Brass said. He let the words trail off. He'd done damned fine before they'd run to the forest and he'd not sprinted fast enough after them to prevent their escape to the factory. "We're already ahead of last year. Last year, they didn't hardly shed a drop of blood outside of their own alliance. They even abandoned the Horn to two people. One of which was a traitor career to boot. Best we can hope for as far as those approaching is that none of them is as maimed as I left the sevens."
He took a bite of dinner. "Might best best to move to the city. They have two, possibly three archers, and the narrow halls of some of the buildings would offset that range advantage. Again, if we can't set the factory on fire. Of course, if we could do both on our way to the city..."
