As you walk across the long, flat charred ground, you realize the cover has been burned away. This is now a flat area with no trees to hide behind. The only cover are the trees that you leave behind at your back and the horn thirty feet in front of you. As you approach the horn, you spy a true temptation!
A four tiered platter sits within the mouth of the horn, set with goodies. At the base of this platter are twelve 32 ounce Nalgene bottles - a days supply of water for one tribute. The next tier was a wooden circle with eight silver pots. These are the same pots that your food gifts have been arriving in! The third tier was composed of six mesh bags full of fruits - apples, bananas, oranges, pineapples and strawberries are a few easily recognizable treats. The cherry at the top was a dessert platter set with sweets to appeal to any child - chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate chip cookies, apple and lemon meringue pies and rich fudge blocks could be seen at this distance. Four medical packs were set at the very top of of this tier, six feet high.
Ten feet in front of the horn, a long wooden table was slowly raised from beneath precisely at 12 P.M. Upon this table was a backpack for each tribute; marked with their district number. Beside this backpack was a weapon - an improved weapon already in use by that tribute. There were no tricks in place to prevent stealing what does not belong to you; as far as you can tell.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World BurnSweets. Jan had to roll his eyes. A Capitol kid might be all about that top row of sweets, but not Jan Colton. Not The Wolf Pack. He wanted his bag first. Water Second. First Aid Packs Third... ...And then, maybe he'd grab for the food stuffs. Being born in a poor district meant that he knew how to scavenge. He might not be as good at it as Jace had been, but he could manage pretty well. So sweets? By The One, the Capitol was stupid. There was no place to hide anymore. No high ground. No trees to climb up into. It meant that everyone was on a level playing field, and Jan looked to his Alliance. The night before, he'd written a note. Two, in fact. Stuffed them both in different hidden places, assuming for the world that someone would come for them, if only out of curiosity. Unless he won this thing, he had nothing left to lose, and besides... ...It's what Jace would have done. The right thing. Beatrienne, Family is Everything. Community is Family. --Janus 2013-02-24 15:56:18 Jan Colton rolled 9 dice to "Love Me, Dammit (Persuation + Manipulation + Willpower + Striking Looks Bonus)" 4,9,8,7,5,9,7,10,7,6 (4 successes)
He really hoped she understood what he was trying to say. There was only so much he could do from where he was, and only so much he could say that the Capitol couldn't censor. Or that they were too stupid to censor, whatever... Lyme, Tell my Pa and Ma: Help Abby's family. It's what I want. Tell Rory to talk to Beatrienne if she can manage it. --Jan 2013-02-24 15:57:43 Jan Colton rolled 9 dice to "Love Me, Dammit (Persuation + Manipulation + Willpower + Striking Looks Bonus)" 5,4,3,4,8,2,6,2,5 (1 successes)
After both notes were placed in whatever hiding spot he found, he'd turn toward a camera, offer a teasing half-smirk, and a wink. Maybe it was a bit obvious that he was doing it for attention, but if a guy were known to be 'pretty', and it was a tool he had to work with? He worked with it. There was no use letting it go to waste. As it stood, he was watching. Waiting. Seeing what other people were doing. This had gone from a suicide run--because that's what it had been--to him wanting to win. Or at the very least wanting to send either Izzy or Ember home. Maybe even Lil Bit. The Wolf Pack had become a sort of family, and now he understood what Jace had gone through with Lallek. Even if he didn't agree with it, and even if he didn't think it would have been reciprocated, Jan understood now. And in that understanding, he could now finally live. "Bags. Water. Medical. Food. In that order." He whispered, looking back at his people. "But I want to see what's what first."2013-02-24 15:53:06 Jan Colton rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 2,4,2,6,10,10,9,10,3 (4 successes) [Jan is holding his action, watching the field. The stench of fire clung to the ashes; but the acrid smoke had faded through out the night. Visibility was good. Yards to the right and left of the Wolf Pack other tributes began to press in towards the horn. Lacey, Coral and Cotton stood twenty feet to Jan and Isolde's left. A small form was slinking forward twenty feet to Jan's right - Galen? Felix and Sassinak waited by the treeline, thirty feet from the others at this point. They could see all of the tributes except Brass. Isolde Isolde stood next to Jan, evaluating the horn. She frowned as she shifted her left foot, stirring up a clump of charred grass. "Where's Brass?" Isolde wondered aloud, holding her arrow. "Do we hold until we see him?"The girl from district nine drew an arrow and nocked it, staring at the horn. Isolde turned her head and evaulated the killing field, as she was thinking of it. Coral "Hold for a second," Coral requested of her new alliance, turning her head as she scanned the horn. She was bothered by the absence of Brass, but decided to push on. " - lets capitalize on Brass' absence. I'm going for my bag; then the Sevens. Cotton?""Got the plan." Cotton affirmed, licking his lips and holding his staff tightly. "Lacey?" Coral emphasized. "Stay with me."The girl from district four streaked across the field first, sprinting towards the table with her gear bag upon it. The others can not hear Coral's words, but can see her lips moving.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember had hung back with Lily. The little sister she had always wanted. Cinder would have liked her. Lil' was just like them: cunning, fierce, deadly. The deadly was a product of circumstance. If you were going to survive in this world, you had to be willing to kill. The remaining district 12 tribute was telling the little one stories about her hometown. The miners, the hub... the rutting peacekeepers. She told Lily about her last reaping, the small girl about Lily's age that she volunteered for, and how she took out a cadre peacekeepers and punch her mother before she was taken away to the Capitol. “Aim true, Lil' Bit...” Ember whispered as they joined Jan and Isolde at the treeline. Ember slipped her good hand into Jan's as her new "hand" held her knife. “Where's Brass?” She nodded to Coral. “There's Coral... Broody is with Lace and the Giant. Don't attack them unless they attack us. Galen and Brass are the targets. Once they go down, don't attack. I've got a plan... Something that will really get us all remembered for years to come.” Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Perception" 3,8,3,2,1,3,2,8 (2 successes)

Lily listened attentively to Ember's tales of home, keeping a watchful eye over the arena. Had it not been for the circumstances, Ember would have had Lily's undivided attention. Hearing Ember talk about punching her own mother brought up an odd mix of feelings in the twelve year old tribute... it was an act she'd love to do to her own father should she survive, but at the same time Lily had never known her own mother, or any sisters like Ember was to her now. She couldn't help but wonder what her own mother had been like... Aim true. No fear there. Lily would not let Ember down. It was so... different to be addressed like an equal on a level worthy to stand with someone. It was a shame it took coming to the Arena for that to happen, the dark voice in her mind whispered, especially with her chances of going home so low. Lily ignored it once again. The time for stories passed as Jan laid down the Wolfpack's list of priorities for the battle and Ember defined their available targets. That suited Lily perfectly. Even now, with the two alliances standing off from each other Lily could muster no ill-will towards Felix, Coral and Sassinak. Lacey and her companion were spared, if only because confronting them meant engaging Felix too. The poor male might be blind, but his judgment of others was not and she would have to trust that Lacey and her giant would not force their hand. There was a momentary bout of pity for Galen. With Brass hiding away, the tribute was their one and only available target as far as she could see. Never mind, once the metal named Career showed himself, it would hopefully be his last day in the Arena too. She raised an intrigued eyebrow at the mention of Ember's "mystery plan" but said nothing. The way things were going, she'd find out soon enough. Lily Zelle rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 10,4,8,8,9,3,10,8 (6 successes)

Lacey moved to the opposite end of the table to the lower districts section. She reached out with one hand and plucked up her bag, slinging it over her left shoulder. The staff was held in her right hand as she looked over her shoulder, watching the Wolf Pack. As they haven't moved, she took a step nearer to Cotton's bag and reached out for it. Cotton had reached the cornucopia and evaluated the pile of food; clucking his tongue appreciatively. He took a minute to evaluate the best haul, as he certainly had the time. Nobody else was even near him. The boy from eight reached out and took one of the water bottles, tucking it into his nearly empty pack. He glanced over to Lacey, ensuring that she was fine. Felix & Sassinak Sassinak reached up and pulled herself into a good position in one of the tall cedar trees. She leaned against the trunk of the tree and pulled out her bow from her pack. She leaned down to check on Felix's approach, commenting.
"It looks peaceful down there." Sassinak remarked, somewhat surprised. "No Brass. No one seems to be fighting. What do you think of it?"
She glanced over to Felix as he climbed, remarking. "Don't forget to use your camo kit!" Galen darted forward, moving quick and evasively. She raced up to the table and swept up her weapons, a pair of small pointed things that looked quite lethal. One was palmed in her right hand as she dropped the rest into her open hip pouch. She evaluated the group around her and ducked low under that table. Perception: 2 suxx Glancing around, one could see the other tributes moving for their gear. One could see your own gear, looking rather vulnerable... 4 suxx Glancing around, one could see the other tributes moving for their gear. One could see your own gear, looking rather vulnerable... Coral, Cotton and Lacey were moving quickly with little conversation. If one didn't know better, one would think that they had planned their plan for conquering the Feast and that it was going perfectly. Yet a glance nearer to the cornucopia revealed something small... flying around? 6 suxx Glancing around, one could see the other tributes moving for their gear. A closer look revealed exactly what was flying around - a tracker jacker! The insect looked benign at the moment, not attacking any one... but its very presence was worrisome. Why was it here?

Felix GraylingAs Felix climbed up the tree behind Sassinak, his back, bow and quiver slung over his back, Felix groaned as he had to maneuver so that his bad leg wouldn’t get bumped or have too much weight placed on it. Once he reached a good position, he leant against the tree trunk, and pulled his leg into the most comfortable position he could. He nodded to Sassinak, retrieving the camouflage kit from his pack. He got to work on concealing himself as he replied to his district partner. “Keep an eye out for Brass... Galen too.” He said, “They’re the only two we should be gunning for right now. Unless the others attack...” He kept working on concealing himself. “If Cotton and Lacey attack Jan and his alliance, we need to get Coral away from it.” He told Sassinak, “I want Brass down before we consider fighting them.” The thought of Brass running in on the battle while they were all wounded, slicing and dicing his way to victory made Felix feel extremely angry. Once he thought he had done alright, Felix tossed the camouflage kit over to Sassinak, before taking his bow off his back and notching an arrow. “Galen and Brass.” He said, keeping an eye on Coral as she harvested from the Feast it’s gifts. Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World BurnJan felt the fingers of Ember's right hand lace into those of his left, and he looked sidelong at her with a smile before he looked out onto the field. The others were making their moves, and it seemed to him that they were all being extremely cautious of each other. He had his knife in his right hand, turned inward so that the blade wasn't out and obvious. So that it didn't seem a danger to anyone when they headed out, and he started to. Started to step out onto the field before he caught it... ...Something was buzzing. Jan's eyes narrowed, and he released Ember's hand so that he could use the binoculars. This felt too easy. Too wrong. It was too generous a Feast. The Capitol was playing a cruel game, and he wanted to figure out what they were up to. "This feels too easy." And he needed to trust his gut right now. "Move cautiously."2013-02-26 20:06:56 Jan Colton rolled 8 dice to "Perception 2 (With Binoculars)" 8,7,2,10,8,9,4,4,7 (4 successes)

Lily's blood froze in her veins as she laid eyes on the deadly little buzzer flying around the Cornucopia, her eyes awash with fear. Trying to compose herself with difficulty, she approached Jan and laid a trembling hand on his shoulder.
Lily had good reason to be scared of the diminutive bug, given that their highly painful stings were loaded with a powerful toxin that could cause merely hallucination if you were lucky. Unlucky? You'd die, horrifically, unpleasantly and in agony. Death would not be prolonged if you were stung enough, but each second you lived would feel like an eternity of pain.
"Tracker Jacker, by the cornucopia." she hissed in a low voice.

Isolde remained in step beside Jan, giving Lily a glance as she approached Jan. The girl from district nine had her bow out and she approached at an even pace, moving for her pack. She reached out and pulled it onto her back. A sideways glance towards Galen ensured that the girl from district eleven remain crouched underneath the table. Isolde scooped up her better bow and quiver of arrows, tucking her old bow into her pack.

Coral Having grabbed her own pack, she picks up her +4 chakram and starts running for her alliance' packs. She slows her pace as she evaluates Isolde - and Isolde's new bow. The girl from four dips her head, glancing at the dwarf sized Galen who still was hiding beneath the table. Coral resolutely continues towards district seven's packs.
"Isolde."
"Coral."
Both girls held their weapons defensively, watching the other...

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember swore softly when Lily spoke. Great. Tracker Jackers. That's just what they needed. She took a breath and sighed. “Sweetpea... Don't... Get Galen.” She used the girl's real name. Ember couldn't... wouldn't call her by her district number. Galen was a person. She had a family... maybe. And although Ember planned to slaughter her mercilessly she would never dehumanize her. “I'm going in. Watch my back...” Ember said to her group. She walked toward the horn keeping an eye out for more tracker jackers and Brass. Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Perception" 9,8,3,6,9,1,8,9 (5 successes)

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn[/i][/color] "Up to you if you tell her about the Tracker Jackers." There was a look to Lily, who he nodded his appreciation to, and when Ember walked out, following after Isolde, he took a deep breath. "I'll always watch your back, Sunshine." It was said over the earpiece. "I'll keep an eye out for Brass...and see if I can't find a nest."For all he knew, they could be paranoid, but something told him they weren't. This was far too generous. 2013-02-26 22:16:24 Jan Colton rolled 8 dice to "Perception 2 (With Binoculars)" 6,10,6,10,2,3,6,8,1,5 (3 successes) With that, he handed Lily the binoculars. "Take care of those, Lil Bit. And this too." Jaspar's earpiece. "Put it on, tell me if you see anything.
"You might be our saving grace."With that, he made his way carefully and cautiously out behind Ember, keeping his own eyes out for Brass. For more Tracker Jackers... ...For whatever trick the Capitol had up their sleeves.

Boomer had discreetly and quietly approached the district five table and had shouldered his and Lily's packs while the girls circled one another. Lacey had quietly been observing the arena and now jumped into action. She darted forward, startling Isolde and Coral as she ran between them to her district packs. She donned her own pack and reached out, grasping her new scythe from the table. One had to look at that long, curved blade of her new weapon. Lacey now was in possession of a lethal weapon.
"Cotton!'
The girl gave an expert toss of her staff, tossing it into the waiting hands of Cotton. Cotton dropped his +1 staff and turned, using his staff to knock down a medical bag from the higher tier of the cornucopia. He shouldered the bag and stiffened, glancing about warily. He reached out and took a second water bottle, placing it into his pack.
Galen crawled forward, having spent some time fumbling with her bottle. One would notice some water missing - it looked like the girl had helped herself to a drink. Galen approached at the opposite end of the food pile as Cotton, taking a second bottle of water and placing it into her pack. She held the first bottle of water in her left hand, her shuriken in her right hand.
For those counting those valuable supplies, there were now nine water bottles and three medical packs left.
Those with a high perception (+4) notice two tracker jackers circling in a wider range. One is circling Isolde and one is circling Cotton.

The binoculars were helping Lily's overview of the area immensely, taking her new duty as lookout very seriously. She noted briefly that Boomer had nabbed the District Five packs while they had been talking, permitting herself a brief smile only. As the tributes started helping themselves to food and knocking supplies around, Lily noticed another tracker jacker appear on scene... could it be the nest was inside the middle of the pile? "Isolde... stay very calm. There is a Jacker circling near you. Just be wary, okay?" Lily was doing her best to keep track of the deadly insects. Felix GraylingThings started happening at the table. Lacey’s actions make Felix take a sharp intake of breath, but she didn’t appear to be causing trouble for the moment. His helmet told him as Galen moved out from under the table. Galen. He pulls the arrow back on the bowstring. "Yes. You learn how to exhale right before you release the string, so your breathing won't jostle your aim." Breath in. Breath out. Release. “Shoot Galen!” Felix says to Sassinak as soon as his arrow takes flight. He looks across the table, and his helmet detects something very out of the ordinary. Tracker Jackers. He hopes his arrow to Galen is a good enough message to the tributes at the table. That she is who they’re targeting, not each other. That she has to be disposed of. “Sass, there’s tracker jackers circling them. Two.” He informs his district partner. He curses. “This is a trap.”Felix Grayling rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Composure" 8,10,8,7,10,2,2,7 (4 successes) Felix Grayling rolled 11 dice to "Dexterity+Athletics+Bow+Will" 5,3,6,7,3,8,3,6,9,6,10,5 (3 successes)

"Good bye, Galen." Sassinak stated quietly, loosing her arrow. As it sank into Galen's shoulder, Sassinak sighed. She slung her bow over her arm and spent a few moments camouflaging her face, stating.
"I don't want any one seeing us on the way back. No ones attacking any one... but it makes me uneasy." There was a pained shriek as Isolde jerked, clutching her neck. At nearly the same instant, Cotton gave a bellow and clapped a hand down on his left wrist. The tracker jackers buzzed, circling in a wider circle. Now the noise is audible to every one. Boomer stepped away from the table, leaving the weapons for district five untouched. He walked towards the food pile, inspecting the pile. One can imagine he'll be helping himself in a moment.

She could only hope her team mate wasn't already too intoxicated to react.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn
She had Jace's weapon.
It would always be Jace's weapon. Regardless of who held that thing after the 25th games, that would always be Jace's weapon. Its' enough to have him gritting his teeth as he jogged up to the District 9 table, looking between Isolde and Lacey, his eyes narrow as he took his own bag.
And then there were shots. At Galen. Two arrows from the woods. Had to be Felix and Sassinak, and he raised nothing more than an eyebrow.
"There are..." Isolde got stung. "...Tracker Jackers. Get out of here. Now. We saw them. Didn't want to yell."
Because that might set them off, and he moved to grab his own nice, pretty weapon that wasn't so very different from the one he already had.
"Sunshine?" She said she had a plan. They needed to put it in motion. Now.

Coral helped herself to a medical bag and jerked at the shrieks of Cotton and Isolde. She winched in empathy, caught giving Isolde a sympathetic glance.
"Come on." She grabbed Cotton's elbow, steering him away from the food pile. He reached out for a medical bag and Coral was forced to wait with him. She gave Lacey a glance, a silent 'help me out here?' visible in her expression. Coral glanced behind her towards her old alliance, but she kept trying to move the stubborn Cotton.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember lips pursed in a straight line. Tracker Jackers were a problem. And she intended to solve this. “Get the bags, Charming and have Boom-Boom take Sweetpea toward Lily.” Ember said, grabbing a bag. Not the good knife. She already had a great knife. But something else. (I don't know what else is there) She used the girl's real name. Ember couldn't... wouldn't call her by her district number. Galen was a person. She had a family... maybe. And although Ember planned to slaughter her mercilessly she would never dehumanize her. “Charming, with me....” Ember said and then she looked at Galen. “I'm sorry, little one. My sister and his brother are waiting to take you to the Otherside.” Ember attacked Galen. First slicing at her legs. Then stabbing the little girl in her looking to puncture her lung. It would make running harder. Once the attacks were completed she called to Lacey, trying to keep her voice down. “Brass is still alive. It means our partnership is still in effect... right?” She looked at Jan. It was time for him to work his magic. Because getting Lacey on board would help with her master plan. Galen made a sharp cry and fell down onto the ground. She made a hiss through her teeth, clutching at her wounds. The girl made an angry noise and hurtled the blade forward. The blade sliced into Ember's collarbone. The cut was shallow and not very painful, but the weapon would need to be extracted. The girl began to slowly twitch on the floor. The pack on her back had one visible water bottle and the bottle in her hand - with a bit of water gone already- fell beside her.
Lacey nodded her head towards Ember. "It would be why I'm not slicing up your 'Charming'." Lacey replied flatly with a jerk of her head towards Jan.
"Cotton, Coral!" Lacey got her alliance mates' attention. "Get to the sevens. I'm not liking Brass' absence and these jackers... "
"What about you?" Cotton worried. Lacey stepped forward and checked Cotton's wrist. His wrist was already swollen to the size of a golf ball. "You're in no shape to stay here." Lacey pressed a hand to Cotton's face. His eyes were already dilating and she frowned, concerned at his distraction with the food pile.
"Cotton." Lacey said firmly, pulling him back to the present. "I'll just get a few more supplies and be right behind you." Lacey assured, giving Coral the two district eight bags that she was holding. She gave Coral and Cotton a friendly push in the right direction. "Thank you. "
"Be careful." Cotton warned as he grabbed a last item, a pot of food from the food pile and moved away. Coral helped herself to a medical bag and fell in step behind Cotton, heading away from the Feast. Coral glanced behind her towards her old alliance, but she kept moving on towards the trees.
Lacey glanced over towards Ember, turning and looking over at the twitching body of Galen. The girl was clearly on her last breath. She looked over towards Ember, cocking an eyebrow.

Felix Grayling
As soon as Cotton and Isolde started clasping at parts of their bodies, he knew what was going on. In terror, he cried out, “Coral! Get back!”
After that he slung his bow over his back once again, “Put the camo kit in your pack. We’re going down.” Felix said to Sassinak as he carefully, but as quickly as he could, adjusted his body so that he could climb down.
He waited for his helmet to tell him where branches were as he looked down, and then started his descent, trying his best to keep his bad, braced leg away from anywhere it may bump into something.
He wanted to be ready to run for it should they have to as soon as Cotton and Coral got to them.

One alliance quit the field as Cotton and Coral moved towards the Ruined City and Felix and Sassinak started climbing down. Lacey remained behind, watching Ember with curiosity. The girl from eight watched the Wolf Pack warily. There was no sign of Brass on the field. Isolde clutched her neck, moaning slightly. When she withdrew her hand, a bump the size of a golf ball was visible on her neck.
