As the feast wound down with Coral and Cotton quitting the field, the two raced towards Felix and Sassinak in the trees. Sassinak nodded her head as she looked downwards, frowning.
"Alright." She agreed. "Whats the plan, Felix?" The girl from district seven wondered as she started to climb down the tree. "I see Coral and Cotton coming towards us. Looks like they're quitting the field..."

Felix Grayling
Felix made his way carefully down the tree, listening to Sassinak as she spoke. To say that his leg made climbing awkward was a severe understatement; he could feel a few throbbing pains shoot up it as he descended. He gritted his teeth and quickened his pace. He wanted to get down.
At the base of the tree, Felix pushed himself off, bent down and quickly picked up his crutches, and moved back so Sassinak had room to get down.
“We wait for Lacey.” Felix told his district partner, “A cannon means Galen died. A second means Jan, Ember, Lily, Isolde and Boomer took Lacey out. If that happens, we run for it.” He told her. They couldn’t depend on Jan and Ember and Lily and the others; they would want to win too.
“I’m gonna see what I can do for Cotton’s sting, though.” Felix told her, “He’ll be no use to us if he’s badly intoxicated.” He thought of the second, and last, antibiotic pill in the front of his pack. Maybe Sassinak would have to go without her second dosage.

"True that." Sassinak agreed. "I'm a bit glad we weren't down there. I've heard those are terribly painful." A guilty look overcame her face. "But... we were all prepared to provide support, had there been actual fighting." "Hello." Coral greeted as she guided Cotton in from the Feast. The boy was disoriented and muttering under his breath about pink rabbits. Coral kept a firm grip on his right elbow. "Those jackers jacked him." Coral observed with a sigh. "Here." She turned around to reveal a bounty on her back - +4 chakram
- medical bag
- Felix's bow
- Sassinak's bag
. She handed Sassinak her bag and Felix his (+4) bow and twenty arrows. "Lacey told me to run with him." She explained. "She said she'd get the rest of the gear. " Coral turned and observed that Lacey was still by the horn, talking to the Wolf Pack. "I wonder whats so damned interesting."

Felix nodded at Sassinak, “Don’t feel bad about having selfish thoughts. By now, I think they’re necessary, what keeps us alive.” He said to her quietly before he turned his attention to Coral as she and Cotton approached, their murder of Savannah still fresh in his mind. “We saw,” He nodded at Coral, and accepted the bow and arrows, “Thank you, Coral.” He placed the arrows in his quiver and dropped his [+2] bow to the ground, replacing it on his back with the shiny new [+4] bow. “Bring Cotton over here.”He reached out and gently took the boy’s arm, and he used his helmet to attempt to work out what he could do to help him stop seeing pink fauna. “They aren’t fighting?” He asked Coral as he surveyed the sting. Looking at the sting, Felix realized that there was an extreme reaction. It would need some medication, perhaps an ice pack - or with what they had on hand, cold water from the river -and definitely time to pass through Cotton's system.
"They weren't when I left." Coral replied simply. "No ones fighting - well, except for Galen. She got Ember with a shuriken, but Ember put her down. Girl isn't long to this world. " Coral glanced around. "We waiting for -" Her eyes narrowed. She placed a hand on Boomer's elbow, suddenly jerking him from Felix's side. Her expression was one of alarm. Lifting a finger to her lips and looking to each one in turn, Coral lowered her finger and pointed out towards the shadows of the jungle...

Felix GraylingFelix sucked in air through his teeth as he looked over Cotton’s sting. He knew that it would need some attention. Coral’s actions made Felix mouth slack a little for a moment, and then as she pointed, apparently worried about something, he turned around and tried to look in the direction that she was pointing. Her reaction made his stomach drop. In that moment, Felix crossed to stand in front of Sassinak protectively. He didn’t know what Coral was pointing at, but the fact that she wanted them to be soundless made him feel like it was danger. He didn’t want Sassinak in any danger. "Felix, run -" Coral's words are cut off as something flies at her. The rope net closes over her, enveloping her body. A pull jerks her off her feet and Coral hits the ground with a thump. The girl writhes to free herself, but to no avail. "Go!" Sassinak shoves Felix from behind him. Felix GraylingIt all happened so fast. Felix heard Coral telling him to run, heard that she was going to say more as something flies out and closes around her body, throwing her to the ground. Felix opens his mouth to say, to shout, something, but nothing comes out. “Run for the watch tower!”Felix wouldn’t. “Don’t you dare die.” He said to his district partner, to Coral. Brass was there, Brass was doing this. For now it was three against one, because Cotton wouldn’t be able to fight in his state. If it had been any other tribute, the odds would have been in their favour. But against Brass? He had proven himself able to inflict horrifying handicaps on people in two swings of his mighty blade. “LACEY!” Felix’s shout was panicked, angry, shocked. He didn’t know, but he bellowed at the top of his lungs. “ENOUGH TRICKERY BRASS! SHOW YOURSELF!” He wanted the others to hear him, to understand his hints. He pulled his bow from his back and pulled back an arrow. “Sass, get her free.” Before she could argue, “I won’t leave you!”With the arrow pulled back, ready to loose when he saw Brass, if he saw Brass, Felix looked desperately around for the beast that had taken his eyes. "Damn it, Felix." Sassinak hisses at him, but she doesn't argue.
Coral was making promises of violence in store for Brass from her position on the ground. The girl was valiantly attempting to get free, rolling across the ground. "Coral, its me." Sassinak whispered as she dropped to a knee, slicing through the ropes that bound Coral's ankles. Coral began to writhe to try and free her upper body, but it would take a few moments. Felix could see Brass standing five feet away. He was holding what seemed to be several ropes in one hand, and a single rope leading to it in another. The rope led off into the shadows somewhere.
Sassinak had barely looked up when the same manuever caused a net to close over Felix's body.
The rope net closes over Felix, enveloping his body. A pull jerks her off him feet and Felix hits the ground with a thump. Felix finds his arms compressed against his sides; his bow jabbing him at his left side. He hears Sassinak swear.
Cotton says 'Hello, butterfly! Look! Its so pretty!"
"What the hell is going on?" Laceys voice from somewhere to the left.
"Brass-"
"Get down, Cotton. Where is the frell**?"
There's an uncomfortable silence...

Felix Grayling
The fear kicked in moments after Felix scoffed. He wanted to shake his head in disgust, but the net was compressing his body.
Coward.
Brass was no man. He had now covered two of his opposition in movement-restricting nets. He just wanted to have easy kills. And while Felix knew they had done the same to Savannah, it still made him sick.
Where had the bravado gone from the Capitol? Had losing his pathetic excuses for Careers made him fear that Panem saw him, too, as weak?
Once that had been pushed aside, Felix felt fear wrack his body. Brass was still there, and he could kill them all.
When Lacey arrived, Felix exhaled shakily. This was no way to die. This was a pathetic way to die.
“F***ing coward. F***ing stupid f***ing coward.” Felix groaned as he writhed helplessly in the net.

Coral emitted a sharp scream as Brass' weapon sliced along her arm. The cut is shallow, but perhaps its the knowledge that this is how Sassinak lost her arm that put panic into Coral's voice.
"Die!" Lacey screeches, sounding slightly unbalanced. Someone crouches next to Felix and he hears the sound of being frayed. Turning his head, his helmet relays that Sassinak is beside him with a sword. In a few moments, the ropes loosened around him
He was free.
Brass rolled 9 dice to "Wrathful Cut (•••••) to Coral - 3 for called shot (left arm)" 3,1,9,1,3,6,3,3,7 (1 successes) Lacey rolled 9 dice to "Attacking Brass (12 - 3)" 7,3,7,2,9,4,6,2,10,7 (2 successes)

Felix GraylingCoral’s scream makes Felix jolt, “Coral?” He says, feeling weak and useless in the net. And when someone crouches next to him, Felix felt... He didn’t know what the feeling was, but he expected a sword to slice him open. He realised he was being released as he felt the net being frayed. Sassinak. “Thank you.” He said, almost inaudible. As he pulled himself from the net, Felix turned to look at Brass. “Enough cowardice!” He shouted in rage, taking an arrow from his quiver and pulling it back on the bowstring. “Like Lacey said. Kindly perish.” Felix said bitterly as he loosed the arrow, aiming for Brass’ armoured neck. Felix Grayling rolled 7 dice to "Dexterity+Athletics+Bow+Will-3 Called Shot-2 Armor" 4,6,10,2,7,3,1,1 (1 successes)

Jan Colton: District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World BurnRunning up to the scene, he really didn't have time to take much of anything in. Two nets, both empty of their supposed cargo. Brass facing off with an Alliance. By The One...this was going to be a slaughter. Of course, Jan wasn't getting into range of that sword until he was sure Brass wasn't gunning for him. If it were Ember in Coral's place, he'd happily throw himself at the bastard and deal with the consequences as they came. But he wasn't dying for anyone who didn't call themselves 'Wolf Pack', and that was just the way it was going to be. Which was why he threw one of his throwing knives at the guy, not really aiming too much and hoping he hit. Felix managed to shoot him in the throat, but Brass didn't look like he was slowing down. "Hey, Sexy. Me and Lacey were wondrin' when you'd show up."2013-02-27 23:48:12 Jan Colton rolled 7 dice to "Throwing a Knife at Brass (-3) + 3 (Willpower)" 9,2,2,1,4,9,2 (2 successes)

"No trickery, Felix. I'm just deciding which of you to take on next." Brass replies. "I have to make sure you all don't run away on me. Now..." His eyes tick over the group. Despite the overwhelming numbers in thier favor, his confidence was jarring. He darts forward, using the same manuever that had cost Sassinak her arm. His sword bit into Coral twice, causing blood to gush down the tribute's clothes. The wounds were substansial and Coral gasped, clutching her abdomen and wincing in pain. Lacey swung her new scythe at Brass, yet it made a sharp retort as it glanced off his armor. Brass began to bleed slightly from his arm, but made little comment. The throwing knife bit in and Brass chortled. "There you are, Twin. So good at teaming up. " "It worked well for your pack." Lacey retorted. As Lily burst onto the scene a few precious seconds behind Jan, she blanched at the sight of Coral in the net, her eyes narrowing in fury as Brass laid into her with his blade. "Get away from her you bit-" The profanity was lost to the ever-growing threatening snarl in Lily's voice as one of her shiny new throwing knives left her fingers and arced towards the neck of the Career. Lily Zelle rolled 13 dice to "Called Shot to the Neck (with Will!)" 8,9,6,10,2,3,4,10,9,5,3,9,8,5,2 (7 successes)

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember had hung back. But when she saw Brass, an unsettling smirk curled the ends of her lips. She didn’t like the way he was acting. Too confident. That was supposed to be Ember’s thing. Brass was stealing her thing. Yup, he had to go. “Champ… How goes it? Long time no see…” She paused with a chuckle. “What? Too soon?... I’d offer you a hand in all of this but I only have the one. And I'm using it.”She threw one of her throwing knives at Brass. He’d die today of a thousand little cuts. Coral might die… Hell, who was she kidding, a lot of them were going to die today. She looked around searching for traps. Ember Clay rolled 11 dice to "Throwing Knife - 3 for armor + will" 10,9,10,10,7,9,7,5,7,5,7,1,2,10,8 (7 successes) Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Perception" 8,2,1,9,2,2,2,7 (2 successes)

Felix Grayling“C-Coral!” Felix felt like he should be shouting, but the fact that he felt like his heart was in his throat, he didn’t know if any sound had come out at all. Brass was killing her. Jan’s arrival made Felix feel like a weight had been lifted, and when Lily and Ember appeared with their own attacks to the Career, Felix breathed out a shaky breath. If I believed in the One, this would be where I thanked it. Felix thought to himself as he drew another arrow from his quiver. He didn’t even aim for a specific area on Brass’ body this time; he just wanted the boy to hurt. He loosed the arrow. "Coral?"
Sassinak crouched next to Coral, pressing her hands to Coral's abdomen. Blood soaked through her fingers and Sassinak found a gap in Coral's armor that Brass had exploited. Coral coughed, a phlegmy, scary sound. Blood was on her lips. "Coral... you're going to be all right." Sassinak grabbed her pack and snatched out the medical kit from the front pocket. She dropped a few things as her prosthetic had been engineered for sword wielding and did not provide the dexterity needed for this medical aid. Sassinak muttered anxiously as she found a packet of valuable Celox blood clotting powder. The girl from district seven held it over Coral's grievous wounds to the abdomen, attempting to tear the packet.
"Sass," Coral's hand grasped Sassinak's good hand. "Coral." Sassinak blinked back tears, struggling against Coral's pressure to manage the Celox. Yet Coral clung on for another breath, staring at Sassinak. Coral's hand fell limply to her side. Sassinak looked down again to fumble with life saving first aid. It was a beat before Sassinak realized that Coral no longer blinked. Sassinak pressed her one good hand to Coral's chest and felt the stillness.
"Coral..." Sassinak croaked, lowering her head. Her dark hair flowed into her face, clinging to her wet cheeks.
There was no word of sharp retort or witty banter from Brass. The knife took him down and he twitched slightly before relaxing. The arrow struck flesh that was already cooling. The last of the career pack stared up at the sky, immobile and uncaring as the dead could be. Brass Powers was dead; struck down by the pack of tributes.
BOOM! BOOM!

As the sounds of the dual cannons shattered the silence that had fallen, all thoughts of alliances, tributes and even the Games was driven away by the silent grief for the fallen Coral.
Lily approached the corpse formerly known as Brass, sickened by the relaxed look on his face. With a savage tug. her throwing knife was torn clean from what remained of his neck, a vicious slash ruining the smile on his deceased face before she walked over to where Sassinak held Coral. The knife fell to the ground as Lily sank to her knees, tears slowly running down her face.
Words were not exchanged with Sassinak. The emotions on the face of Lily said enough. For now, there was just a respectful, reverent silence for the tribute that Lily had been proud to call a friend.

Felix Grayling
The crutches fell to the ground alongside his bow as Felix dropped to the ground beside Coral. “No! NO! NO! No, no, no, no!” He clutched his lifeless, fallen team mate by the shoulders. He pulled her face to his chest. “Coral, no. You can’t leave, us. Please no Coral, please. You can’t leave us.” Felix rocked back and forth, his eyes streaming with salty tears.
He shook, holding Coral against him. “She’s not dead!” He shouted angrily, his throat tight, croaking, his face already wet from his tears, “She can’t be dead. Coral? Coral? Please, Coral, please say something.” He wouldn’t let go of her until she replied to him, told him she was fine. Told him she was going to get up. Told him she was going to keep him safe, keep Sassinak safe.
“I’m going to carry her back to the tower.” Felix struggled to get her body in a position that would be easiest, and he even tried to stand up as he attempted to pick his alliance mate up. Before he had even begun to lift off the ground, Felix collapsed over his friend’s body, sobbing. “I’m so sorry.” He choked into her bloodstained torso. He could feel it on his face, her blood, but he didn’t care. He held onto her as he cried, as he shook.
Felix lifted himself from the fallen tribute eventually, taking deep and quick breaths. “YOU WANTED ME!” Felix had turned to Brass’ lifeless body. “You wanted me! I was the one you should have killed!” Felix growled. His pack was thrown to the ground, his axe removed.
“He won’t go back unless he goes in pieces.” Felix spat on Brass’ body before lifting his axe, slicing through Brass’ arm. Another swing, Brass’ other arm was taken from his torso. Again, and his right leg was taken off. Yet another swing, and all that remained attached to the boy’s torso was his head, the face that had been tarnished by Lily’s knife.
The sickening crunch made Felix remember what he had done to Savannah as he shoved the blade of his axe down into Brass’ neck. Two more, even if it wasn’t necessary, and Brass’ head was removed.
Felix panted, but he wasn’t done. His bad leg screamed in pain as Felix viciously swung is axe down on Brass’ torso multiple times, cutting it into pieces. Tears of rage and despair ran down Felix’s face, and he could feel it mixing with blood. He no longer cared.
“Pathetic. Excuse. For. A. Career!” Felix dropped his axe, moved shakily along to Sassinak and pulled her into an embrace. “She shouldn’t have died by his sword. She deserved better!” Felix clutched his district partner as he cried and cried into her. Felix shook all over. “She did everything for us, to keep us here. And now...”
He couldn’t find the words. Felix let out a choked sob as he finally accepted the loss of his alliance partner. More than that. Coral had been a friend.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember walked over to Brass' body, circling it like a predator would it's prey. Brass was dead but she wanted to make sure. If he wasn't dead... a dying lion still has it's bite. If he wasn't dead, she'd make sure. For Felix. For Sassinak. For Kingston. For Jasper. For Bailey. For Coral. Ember Clay would make sure. Then Lily whipped passed her and made sure. So much for being methodical about this. Ember couldn't help but smirk at Lily's display. Yup, definitely her little sister. “Good work, Lil' Bit.”Then there was Felix and that was harder to watch than she would have thought. She had been the same way when Jasper died. Or rather she felt the same way. Ember's expression had been cold, hollow when she hacked up Bogart to pieces. Still, she understood it. She understood it well enough. She had been the same way when Cinder died. At first. Then Ember's heart grew cold. She scooped out every ounce of her humanity until... She met Jan's gaze; her grey eyes shinny with tears she fought to shed. Ember looked into those intense blue eyes of his... A girl could get lost in those eyes. But not Ember. She had been lost before and found herself in those eyes. For just a second she pictured those eyes staring about her with a lifeless haze. And the tears she didn't want to shed, rolled down her cheeks. Ember closed her eyes, took a breath, and reached into her vest. Another cigar. That's what she needed. She lit it and took out throwing knife out of Brass' chest. She had done it. She had out-survived the careers. They were dead and she was still standing. Still breathing. Still feeling. Walking over to Felix, she put a hand on his shoulder. “And now, you have us... Then tomorrow we'll give Panem a bloodbath they won't soon forget,” She paused, taking a long drag from her cigar. “We can honor her still, Felix. We can send her off in style. Like Jasper.”She'd never get a burial like that. Her prince charming promised she wouldn't. “Broody... Felix, I'm going to loot Brass' body. You and Sass figure out what you want do with Coral.” She looked up and nodded to Jan, silently asking for help. None

Jan Colton[/u][/color]
"Anyone know how they do it in District 4?" It was a question to both their mentors and to anyone there. IF they could, they'd do it right. The way she'd want it. He might not have been her biggest fan, but someone cared about her...
...Felix's reaction told him that much.
"If not, we can do it like District 9. Send her back to The World. Bury her someplace beautiful." It was what Jace had wanted. He was under his favorite tree in the barley field.
Jan moved cautiously around Brass, looking at Ember before he started to help her. Brass had some good equipment.
At least, he hoped he did.

Looking over Brass' gear, the first to be stripped is the valuable armor: Chest plate body armor (3 armor) helmet (head, face, eyes)[+2] Bevor (2 armor) (protects the neck). Some of the Wolf Pack were rather light on armor. Brass' pack contains a days worth of water for one tribute, (3) apple turnovers and (2) servings of chili. There are (3) cans of chicken noodle soup. The gear includes night vision goggles, two nets (undamaged), a full cooking set, a fine mesh net for traps and two (partially used) medical kits. One concern that any of the wolf pack would note would be the food supplies - (3) Empty 2-Gallon Jugs of Water Sealed Jar of Instant Coffee (40 Servings) (3) Packages of Chili Pot of Lamb Stew (5 servings) (2) Tin of Cookies This was hardly enough to feed the Wolf Pack three full meals. Perhaps the Wolf Pack does not plan to need more than that... This likely prompted some of the tributes to look into thier packs for some remarkable gifts. Lily: +4 knife Pack: - +3 throwing knives (5)

Aurora watched as Coral was cut down, her breath caught in her throat. As a tribute Rory had cried for fallen tributes. For Micha, for Abigail, for Femra, for Pearl, for two tributes she killed.
Their names were Cade and Cain. Cade was a career for District 2. Cain was the son of a rancher from District 10. They had families, futures… And I stole that from them…
She’d never let herself forget that. And seeing Lacey with scythe in hand reminded her of another fallen tribute she had failed. It reminded her of Jace.
Jace… Jace Colton with the voice of an angel. I’m so sorry I judged you. You were truly a better person than me… You deserve to be here.
As a tribute she could cry for the fallen. As a victor and a mentor, Aurora couldn’t shed a tear. Even if Felix died, or Sassinak… Aurora couldn’t show weakness when Panem was watching.
“I want to speak with Nettle…” she told one of the attendants.
After the meeting was arranged, Nettle and Rory had it out. He called her naïve. She called him childish. And then he accused her of hating the tributes that she fought against during the Quarter Quell for District Four.
“You’re right. There was no love lost between Lallek and myself. And my only regrets with Rachel is that I didn’t kill myself and she didn't die sooner. But what I had with Pearl was real. As real as what my tributes had with Coral, with Kingston. Help me help them mourn their deaths properly or by the One, Nettle, I will find someone who will. This is good press for all of us. They’ll be talking about this year’s Games like they talked about mine or Diadem’s but for the right reasons.
“Please, Nettle… Please, help them…”
She didn’t know if it was the speech or the pleading at the end. But Nettle nodded.
“Alright, I’ll help. But you’re playing a dangerous game, Aurora.”
Rory smiled, weakly. “I know…”
He told her what she needed to know. And Rory worked quickly to get her message sent to Felix and Sassinak.
“Get this to them as fast as you can,” Rory ordered an attendant, handing the package over. “If it does not get to them in a timely manner, I will know the reason.” The gentle chiming of bells signaled someone was getting a gift from their sponsors. As the bag floated down to them, setting near Felix, everyone could make out the District Seven Seal. Inside was a small audio recorder. “Felix… Sassinak… I’m so sorry about Coral. She was good person. And she deserves to be honored. And I want to help with that.
“I’ve spoken with someone in District Four and I’ve enclosed instructions for their funerals and any religious rites. You may use the information as you see fit. But just know, Felix and Sassinak you are the embodiment of everything that is good about our district. I’m so proud of you both. You’ve done so well. That being said, I need you just to carry each other a little further.
“I like Ember and Jan’s idea about the final battle but more so the final day of rest. I’m not thrilled with only seeing one of you come home but the nine that remain would all make wonderful mentors. And you all have my utmost respect.
“As a wise boy from district nine once told me, 'Family is Everything. Community is Family.' We are all from different districts but what bonds us together is the same. We are all branches of the same tree. Don't forget who you are and where you come from. And more importantly, don't let us forget it.
“Have a good rest. You’ve earned it.”

Sassinak remained kneeling next to Felix. As he grieved, his district mate followed suit. Coral had been the first to carry them through the disastrous Blood Bath. Sassinak was shaking and crying nearly silently for the entire conversation Jan and Ember provided. As the parachute arrived, Sassinak simply lay her head against Felix's back. The girl did not reach for the parachute, continuing to stare at the body of Coral.
The girl lifted her head after holding Felix for a few moments. She dried both cheeks with the hem of her shirt, sniffling softly. Her eyes were red and puffy and her breathing was still irregular. Coral's blood still coated her hands, staining her shirt as she absently clutched it. Raw emotion of grief was etched into Sassinak's face. If she heard Jan and Ember, she gave no sign, choosing to stare at Coral's lifeless corpse.
