Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn
He hit the ground hard, not jumping high enough to get out of the way of that scythe. At least she didn't cut him with it. He was still alive, and in a weird way he saw what she was doing.
Starting the fight, so that none of them actually had to.
"That was the bloody point." It's growled, and Jan is pulling his knife--one of his knives (+4)--as he stood.

Felix GraylingIt was written all over his face. Felix didn’t want to fight. His mouth slacked a little when Lacey spoke, and he almost gasped when she lunged for Jan. It shouldn’t have been so shocking; they were going to give the Capitol a fight that they wanted. But Felix didn’t know why they had to give them what they wanted. So they wouldn’t kill them? Felix pulled his bow from his back. They were already dead, weren’t they? He retrieved an arrow from his quiver. Whichever two made it out of this alive... They weren’t going to be able to live a normal, happy life. But who had lived a ‘normal’ or a ‘happy’ life, even before the Games? Nobody had. He notched one of his three poisoned arrows. As Lacey knocked Jan to the ground, Felix pulled it back on the bowstring. “I’m sorry...” He choked, before letting the arrow fly at Isolde. Felix Grayling rolled 10 dice to "Dexterity+Athletics+Bow" 4,1,5,9,10,10,1,4,5,4,8,5 (4 successes) HP: 21/21 - Chestplate [+3]
- Arm Bracers [+2]

DAY OF RESTLily's post funeral activities were minimal, silently partaking in food and adding her own supplies of it to the bounty being shared around. She knew tomorrow was the last day of the Games one way or another... there was no sense keeping back anything more than tomorrow's breakfast. Lily moved off to a quiet spot alone to prepare for tomorrow's final fight with the others, pooling her equipment together. Medical supplies were dumped save for the Celox. The intelligence files were placed on the growing pile of objects now worthless to her. Her old (+2) bevor was set aside along with the (+2) sword she had acquired earlier in the Games and her old sets of 10 throwing knives (+1/+2). Later on, she'd approach Boomer and quietly offer any of them to him. He might be an ally now and a potential enemy later, but he was definitively her district partner. He deserved a fighting chance tomorrow if nothing else. The knife Ember gave to her was set aside with the new throwing knives from the Feast and her Pack - to be coated with Poison and Paralytic as seen fit. 3 vials of poison, 2 vials of paralytic and a full syringe of same left... she might still be able to use that idea she thought of. The falling buffe was carefully added to her current attire, rounding out her complete set of armor nicely. There wasn't any section left uncovered, and Lily might just end up relying on that to survive just that little bit longer. As night came, the image of Brass in the sky was met with a glare of hatred for the loss of the person who came next. Coral's image lingered, as if watching over them all... until the announcement came. Lily didn't know why the change. Didn't care. It only changed one thing. Instead of eight wanting her dead, now there was four. There was no longer a need to fight Felix, Boomer, Cotton or Jan... but Isolde, Lacey, Sassinak and Ember had to fall before she went home. Her chances hadn't gotten any better with the announcement. She just had a smaller number of people with a more focused reason to kill her dead. THE FINAL DAYThe morning's activities were meaningless. Nobody would remember them, even if the entire Games were broadcast and televised moment for moment. All that would matter started when Lacey lashed out at Jan, knocking him to the ground. Lily only ever had two targets left she could actively start fighting against, effectively reduced to one by the announcement. It was therefore no surprise when a poison coated dagger flashed into her hand and was thrown at Lacey with deadly force. 6 Athletics (Spec) + 5 Weaponry +4 Knife (Poison) +3 Will - 0 Armor - 4 Called Shot (Heart) = 14 Die
Lily Zelle rolled 14 dice to "Knife Throw" 2,8,3,6,8,4,10,9,3,5,2,8,8,3,8 (7 successes)
Hitpoints: ??/21 Willpower: 3/4 Revised Equipment: +2 Bracers(Arms), +4 Falling Buffe (Head/Eyes/Neck), +2 Greaves(Legs), +3 Chestplate(Chest), +4 Set of 9 Throwing Knives, +3 Set of 5 Throwing Knives, +3 Knife, 4 Celox packets, Syringe of Paralytic Toxin

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” First Lacey's words. Then her attack. Then Felix's. Then Lily's. Ember had to make a choice. And as sad as she was with Felix attacking Isolde, Ember had already made her choice. It had always been Jan. “Lacey... I didn't know you. We may not have been friends. But I respect you.” She didn't have to worry about Jan as he was already coming to his feet. So she attacked Lacey, aiming for she side. It wouldn't be a death blow, not like the one Lily had given her. But it would count for something. And at least for the moment, Jan would be safe from his brother's weapon of choice. Ember Clay rolled 11 dice to "Stabbing Lace (Called Shot to Liver)" 8,9,6,6,9,7,3,2,10,1,6,2 (4 successes) Armor: Clothes: Weapons: Gear: Hit Points: 20/ 21Willpower:1/ 6

"As I respect you, Ember." A panting breath escapes Lacey. She's been badly injured and poisoned, but she keeps a strong grip on her staff. "Here's to a hell of a Games."The staff lashes out against the side of Ember's head, causing the girl from district twelve to see stars. She teeters for a moment, but is able to shake off the blow. Ember is still standing. Lacey rolled 8 dice to "Temple Strike (••) on Ember [12-7] WP + 3" 6,6,7,4,10,9,5,2,6 (2 successes) Cotton had made a gasp as the attacks rained in on Lacey. He realized that she wasn't doing well. He gave her pocket an insistant look and she gave him a quick nod - jerking her head towards Jan. The boy bit his lip and choked up the staff, swinging towards Jan. Jan recieved a club to the shoulder as he came to his feet. Cotton rolled 7 dice to "Staff attack to Jan + wp (10-3)" 8,7,6,10,5,3,10,2,9 (4 successes) Isolde gasped as Felix's arrow sank home. She reached into her pack and drew out a wet compress with the green wrapping of medicine from the Feast. A jerk sent the arrow to the ground and she liberally applied the antidote to her shoulder. Yet one had to wonder if it would hold up to an additional dose of poisoning... Boomer took in the attacks with a frown. District five had a first alliance and he decided just to stick to that. He looked at Ember laying unconscious on the ground and frowned. She had given him a better knife, claiming his had looked sad. He wouldn't attack her now, he decided. He looked over towards Jan... Boomer rolled 3 dice to "Attack on Jan" 4,5,8 (1 successes)
Sassinak drew an arrow and aimed it at Isolde. Despite her great skill, the arrow planted next to Isolde's foot. Her heart wasn't in this fight, yet... Sassinak rolled 13 dice to "Shooting Isolde +wp [13+ 3| 16 - 3]" 5,1,3,7,1,5,5,3,1,7,1,7,1 (0 successes) She gave Felix an apologetic look. "We have to," She whispers, her voice anguished. "- but its so hard." Sassinak was remembering how the Wolf Pack had sheltered and cared for district seven. This was hell. A tear escaped the corner of her eye.

Felix GraylingFelix watched Isolde and his heart sank. “I’m sorry.” He called out again. And he found that he was actually glad she had antidote. In fact, a smile spread across his face. He hadn’t thought about what he had done until after he had let the arrow fly into her. He felt bad. And then Lily was cutting Lacey to pieces, then Ember. And Felix swallowed hard. “Just stay alive, Sass. Stay alive.” Felix responded to alliance partner. Boomer raced toward Jan, attacking him. And Felix threw his bow over his back, pulled his axe from his pack on the ground, and he ignored the pain in his leg. “You’re going to win this, Jan, if it’s the last thing I do.” Felix said desperately, as he stepped between Boomer and Jan. “I’m sorry, friend.” Felix said sincerely, as he swung his axe into the boy from district five. Felix clenched his jaw, grinding his teeth. He faced off against Cotton and Boomer beside Jan. The male victor would be determined now. Felix Grayling rolled 11 dice to "Strength+Weaponry+Axe+Specialty+Will-3" 1,1,7,5,9,2,1,10,4,2,10,7,7(3 successes)

Lily watched incredulously as her own district partner turned against them and attacked Jan. The only thing that spared him from being the next target of her attack was the unspoken rule against killing your own district partner in the arena. It was an act that resulted in the aggressor being effectively erased from their District. Even if you won, you wouldn't be welcome at home for killing one of your own. It was this small fact that kept Lily from turning on Boomer, but in striking Jan, her district partner had lost any protection that would have been forthcoming from her. With a single sad look in her eyes, Lily tore her attention away from the former member of her alliance and back to Lacey, another knife cutting through the air of the Arena. 6 Athletics (Spec) + 5 Weaponry +4 Knife - 0 Armor - 2 Called Shot (Lung) = 13 Die

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember nodded to Lacey, a sad smile curled the ends of her lips. She understood now. What Cinder had meant. What that last fight had been for her. She respected Diadem. And that meant something. Being killed by someone skilled, someone who would honor you. Someone like me...Lily's attack landed and Ember knew that it was up to her. She'd leave herself slightly open to an attack but Lacey deserved to be treated with honor. “Indeed, Lacey. Here's to one hell of a games. Here's to the Capitol never forgetting what we're doing here.” The tears in Ember's eyes were probably mostly from the hit that Lacey had given her when she lashed out at Lacey. Twice. First a slash, then a stab. She wrapped her good arm around Lacey, planning to gently put her on the ground. Ember Clay rolled 12 dice to "Attacking Lace" 8,9,5,3,7,1,10,3,7,7,1,6,3 (3 successes) Ember Clay rolled 11 dice to "Attacking Lace -1" 5,5,8,9,10,2,7,10,7,10,5,8,5,4 (6 successes) Ember's Def is 3 until the next round.

Lacey coughs and blood dribbles out of her lips. She wraps an arm around Ember and her scythe crashes to the ground. Lacey smiles, a bloody one as her legs go out from under her.
"Lacey?" Cotton's voice breaks. His arm lowers as he moves to crouch next to Lacey, to touch her face one more time.
"Cotton." Lacey struggles to turn her head to look at him. "Its going to be okay. I see her."
"Her?" Cotton struggles to understand. Lacey turns to Ember and speaks, her eyes already focused on some distant point. "Bailey -"
There's a wet sound as the rest of Lacey's sentence dies on her lips. Cotton kneels beside his partner and weeps openly.
BOOM!
It was a pained look in Boomer's face when he saw Lily's face.
"But the sevens were our first alliance, remember?" He asks. Then he realizes that perhaps that is no excuse for his actions. He sighs, deeply pained.
"I never wanted this." He stated at last, lowering his knife.
"I never wanted to kill them." Boomer looks to Felix and shakes his head. "Its all right, Felix. I understand. I did the same thing."
He loosens his knife and Ember's gift falls to the ground. Boomer pulls his water skin from his pouch and drinks deeply. Perhaps someone remembers the care he had taken with it earlier? Now he spends several moments drinking, dropping the skin on the floor. The sound suggests that there are only a few drops left.
He gives Felix, Jan and Cotton a smile and coughs. Its a haggard cough, one associated with the very ill. He pitches forward and lands on the ground, laying on his side and making no means to defend himself. Boomer makes a pained groan and clutches his stomach.

"Boomer!"
The battle around her was forgotten as Lily dashed to her district partner's side in the dirt.
"What did you do?" Lily asked sadly, her face distraught with the knowledge of exactly what the male Fiver had done but unable to bring herself to accept what her eyes were telling her.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember laid Lacey gently on the ground. Great care was taken to how this skilled warrior from District 8 left this world. She was a fighter and she was meeting her end well. “Bailey. She sees her on the otherside,” Ember replied to Cotton's question. “Go to her Lacey and find my sister. She'll take care of you.” The canon blast covered her choking sob and Ember Clay composed herself as she turned to Cotton. “Take the time you need. See to Lacey. When you're ready, let us know.” Ember stood and went Jan's side. “Are you okay?” None

Felix Grayling
It was all so sudden. Felix dropped to his knees when Boomer recoiled on the ground, and Cotton ran towards Lacey. Everything was going so strangely.
His shock matched Lily’s, and Felix shook his head in disbelief, “This... No... This isn’t the way Boomer...” Felix said sadly, clutching his friend, “I’m sorry... I...”
Felix turned to Jan, desperation on his face. Felix had no idea what to do anymore.

Jan Colton[/u] He had his knife in his hand, and was attacked from both sides by Boomer and by Cotton, one arm going up to protect his head and managing to get hit in side with a knife blow from Boomer. Of all the people, it hurt him. Badly. And then Felix, going after.... ..Wait. What? Win. Felix wanted him to win. And people were going down. Lacey, going down violently and the canon sounded. And Boomer... ...By The One, what had he just done....? "Felix...you have to..." He looked to Ember. "I'm alright. I'm fine. Felix..." For once in his life, Jan Colton had no idea what to do. He was speechless. "Boomer..." He made his way over to the fallen Tribute. The Boy from District 5. The boy who... "Boomer, I can...I can send you now. He'll be waiting there. For you. Just...not like this."
Not like this. Never like this. Not poison. Not... Jan flipped the knife, putting it to Boomer's throat. There was no one else, and Felix was too good a man. Too good by far... "Tell him...Tell him you were my friend."Jan didn't pay attention to the warm wetness on his cheeks as he did it. Sliced across Boomer's neck. Someone else had to do it, or he'd never see The Beyond. Someone else, so that it was Jace waiting there for him in those Fields of Gold. Not..something else. 2013-03-11 23:35:27 Jan Colton rolled 12 dice to "Weaponry 4 + Strength 3 + Weapon 4 + Specialty 1 + Knife 4 (No Defense)" 9,5,9,3,7,7,8,4,2,3,10,8,7 (5 successes)

"Felix..." Sassinak whispered as the world went to hell. Lacey perished in Ember's arms, being hugged like a friend. Cotton falling apart beside his district partner... her eyes widened as she stared at Boomer's apology. Suicide. Was suicide ever an option in the Games? She couldn't remember. Yet Jan removed the queasiness in her stomach by kindly taking away Boomer's anguish.
"Did he ever forgive himself for Bailey?" She whispered. "Or was he so upset for hurting Jan?"
Isolde walked over to stand beside Jan, placing a hand on his shoulder. Concern was clear on her face.
"Brother?" She whispered. She genuinely was clinging to the little story about Kal, concerned for how Jan was faring after he had to be the one to send Boomer off.
"Are you all right?" Her eyes shone as she stared at him. Wondering what he wanted to do next.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember nodded and joined Lily. “Little sister... I mean Lil' bit you don't want to see this.” She pulled the small tribute into an embrace. “Boomer took Bailey's death pretty hard. And he never got over it. Sometimes the greatest choice a person could make is how they leave this world. My daddy told me that once” Ember told the others. None

Little sister... Ember's words might have been a slip, but it was proof enough the female tribute felt the same about Lily as Lily felt about her. The thought was comforting until reality set back in. Sisters they might be in the Arena, but only one of them was going home. That choice Lily was leaving for fate to determine.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn[/u][/i] [/color] He hadn't known what it was like, seeing those final moments of The Games last year. He'd been in the fields when his brother died. When little Avenged Abigail had torn something vital out of him. Had paralyzed him so he hadn't felt the pain of his death. It would have been slow otherwise. The wounds Linwood and Elena had given him were terrible. Glory Mithras of District 2. Boomer of District 5. Jan felt Isolde's hand on his shoulder and he heard her. She called him 'Brother'. Whether she was clinging to their story, or she really meant it, Jan didn't know. Jan didn't care. It didn't matter... ...Not anymore. "You can never go home again..." His brother had said that, time and again. It was so true it pained him. None of them would ever truly be able to go home again, and for him, that was fine. But his work wasn't done yet. Cotton...sobbing over Lacey's body.... ...It was all so wrong. Jan wiped Boomer's blood off of his knife on his pants, standing. Clenching the weapon in his right hand. "We have to finish." There's a look to Felix. Felix, who apparently wanted him to win. Why him? Why would Felix... You can never go home again..."Felix. Cotton. We have to finish." The boys. They had to finish. And they had to tear everyone's hearts out while they did it. They're better than me......And now he just had to prove it. "I'm sorry."Jan turned on Cotton, feinting his attack to one side, and then slamming home where the other boy least expected it. 2013-03-12 05:46:20 Jan Colton rolled 13 dice to "Weaponry 4 + Strength 3 + Specialty 1 + Knife 4 -2 (Spetnaz 2) +WP" 7,5,3,7,9,8,2,3,4,9,10,1,10,3,6 (5 successes)
Advantageous Angle (••): Your knife-wielder knows how to make a feinted attack from the side or rear in a way that grants him advantage. While normally such attacks confer no bonuses, the character is aware how to deceive an opponent into mounting a Defense against an attack that isn’t coming — and then stage an attack from a different angle. The foe’s Defense is at –1 during such an attack. Drawback: This maneuver can only be made every other turn

"Had to." Boomer replies to his distressed district mate. He sees Jan's movement and instinctively flinches, but doesn't resist Jan sending him off in a more respectable fashion. Isolde sees Jan's action and follows his play, nestling an arrow into Cotton's shoulder. Cotton bellows angrily. "Didn't say I was ready, did I, pretty boy?" Was that anger? Grief? Was he play acting for the cameras... perhaps he had taken a page out of Lacey's book and was making this easier for every one? Or maybe he had found that animal part inside of him that wanted to live so badly. "..won't be your lamb for slaughter..." Cotton mutters, stumbling away. The jungle shadows seem to devour him. The boy disappears into the black. Who seeks out the boy with the light pack on his back? One has to remember he's been living in this jungle for the entire Games... Isolde rolled 10 dice to "Shooting Cotton [13 - 3]" 1,6,10,9,2,7,6,1,10,2,3,7 (3 successes) Cotton rolled 11 dice to "Stealth with WP (9 - 1 for blood loss, +3 for wp)" 10,10,9,8,2,4,10,9,8,3,2,5,7,6 (7 successes)

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn
Cotton disappeared into the jungle, even with the inevitable encroaching flames. Jan knew one thing for sure. He wasn't going after him. If that's how he wanted his life to end, more power to him. Run into a forest full of pygmy mutts and steadily encroaching flames in order to escape a death on a blade. He was wrong. They were all lambs for the slaughter. Every single one of them. "If only that were true." Jan said under his breath, looking around at the others. He disappeared into the woods, and Ember moved to go after him. Jan didn't see where Cotton had gone, but maybe she saw something he didn't. Jan had gotten him pretty good, and so had Isolde. Boomer. Lacey. Seven of them left. Only two could go home. "We can wait for the fires to burn him out, or we can chase him down."
And Jan had never agreed to 'wait' for anything. Not this time. There would be time to mourn later. Or there wouldn't be. Either way, Cotton ran. He can't imagine the Gamemakers liked that much. 2013-03-12 13:33:24 Jan Colton rolled 5 dice to "Perception" 5,6,2,10,7,8 (2 successes)

Lily stood where Ember had pulled her away from Boomer into an embrace, strangely comforted despite the inevitable ring of death that surrounded her. The loss of Cotton left Lily with a terrible dilemma. Felix and Sassinak stood by her at the very start of the Games. Without their help, she probably wouldn't have survived Day 1. Ember, Jan and Isolde had provided what she needed to survive both battles with the Careers and all five of them had looked out for her like true family would. She wouldn't take a death with no meaning like Boomer, but she wasn't going to lay down her weapons and be slaughtered either. With no options currently open, Lily did the only thing she could. She waited, throwing knife in one hand, combat knife in the other. Waited for Cotton to reveal himself, or someone else to tip their hand. Guarding the back of her big brother Jan as big sister Ember had told her to. Lily is using Dodge, giving her a Defense of 8.]

As Ember examined the ground for a blood trail, she found a discarded arrow; Isolde's arrow. She also found an empty package of CELOX. That discovery was a blow - perhaps Cotton was healing himself, readying to take them by surprise. Yet that magical Capitol compound did one thing very well - cause bleeding wounds to clot. The introduction of CELOX would make looking for a blood trail impossible. Ember was back to old fashioned tracking and Cotton seemed very at home here in the jungle.
The others looking around didn't see Cotton watching or stalking nearby. Perhaps the boy had quit the field and the fight altogether. Or perhaps he simply didn't like the stand and fight concept that hadn't worked in Lacey's favor. Perhaps he was biding his time out there in the shadows. Felix, Jan, Isolde, Lily and Sassinak who remained at the fight site were now in a difficult situation.
"What are we going to do?" Sassinak asked Felix. "Cotton quit Jan's idea." "Maybe he did." Isolde stated darkly, examining the trees. "He lived here for the last four days. Maybe he wants to lead us off somewhere and finish us off one by one. A few victors were made that way. Nettle. Apple." A glance towards Felix and Sassinak.
"We didn't quit the fight." Sassinak pointed out. "What are we going to do? We have to finish this. " The girl lowered her voice. "The Game makers won't want this."

Felix Grayling
Felix shook his head in disbelief as Cotton made off to the jungle. “So much for a battle.” He said, turning away from Jan and to Sassinak when she spoke.
“We were all prepared to fight, Sassinak, like you said we weren’t the ones that quit.” Felix stated, “If the damn game makers want to be p***ed at someone, it should be Cotton. He’s the one running away from our promise.” Felix shook his head, kicking his bad leg on the ground. Pain shot up his body but did it really matter anymore?
Felix was tired of being blind, tired of having to rely on those damn crutches to get around. Felix was tired of the Games and Cotton was just dragging it on.
“Fine,” He responded to Ember, “Lets hunt him down.” Felix shoved his axe into his pack, clearly frustrated, and slung the bag over his back. “Or die trying.” Felix picked up his crutches and looked at the rest of the gathered.

"Count me in." Lily said, a note of determination in her voice. Whatever lay in there waiting for them, it was better than dying at the hands of her family in the Arena. Lily fell in behind Jan, Sassinak and Felix taking up the rear with Ember in the middle as they ventured into the Jungle. Feel free to have Jan & Ember shift positions as you see fit between you both as Lite and I did this without you two online to get the chase moving before Cotton gains anymore time-based advantage.
