The train ride was smooth and soundless. The escort informed Jaeger Thorne and Crystal Stone that the hover train was speeding by at 200 miles per hour. She pointed to the table with foods from the Capitol and then went to retrieve the mentors.
Moments later, Karrigan, Bronze, and Diadem walked into the compartment.
“Well,” Karrigan said to the two tributes as she entered, “that was a memorable reaping.”
Bronze frowned. “One of many this year.”
“We can work on getting more camera time. The cameras will be on us when we come to the training center. Presentation of the tributes will be the next chance you have to impress sponsors,” Karrigan added, trying to be optimistic. “It'll be hours until we're in the Capitol. So eat, drink... If you have any questions for us, we've got time.”
Diadem took a deep breath and let it out. “Or we can watch the Reapings.”
“Why not both?” Bronze asked.

District One District One ReapingDistrict Two “First the girls!” the Escort said with a wide-set smile. Her skin was an unnatural tan and her eyes were an electric blue. Her outfit was showy and glamorous. Her hand hovers over the globe for a moment until she plunged it in and pulled out a name. “MARCELLA LINUS!”Just as the Escort finished calling out the girl’s name and voice rose above the crowd. “I volunteer as tribute!”The crowd parts and a tall girl with a willowy figure glided through the crowd. She was gorgeous; the kind of girl that turned heads and stood out. Her hair was raven black and her eyes were a slate gray which made her pale skin look even paler. She climbed onto the dais and grinned. “What is your name, you beautiful girl?” the Escort said. “My name is Verity Nero,” she replied. “Well you’re not that girl’s relative, so why did you volunteer?”“To win.”- ONE SUCCESS – Verity is confidant and is graceful. She doesn’t move like a fighter. Nor does she look like one.
- TWO SUCCESSES – She knows she’s beautiful and how to work a crowd.
- THREE SUCCESSES – She has scars on her left arm.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – Verity is a knife fighter. She’s quick and agile.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – Verity’s probably too proud for her own good.
“And now the boys!”“I VOLUNTEER!”Every whipped their heads to the large, stocky boy in the back. Like Verity he was pale with dark features. He was easily almost 7 feet tall and menacing. He walked on the stage, daring someone to challenge him. No one did. “My name is Trajan Valerius. And I seek glory. This year the Crown will go to the strongest!”- ONE SUCCESS – He is confidant and intimidating.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He has an intense presence that will attract sponsors.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He looks like a fighter through and through. Like someone who could crush a person’s head.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – He is too big for knife fighting and he’s has scars every place his skin is exposed.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – Trajan is a sword fighter. Long swords, most likely.
District Three “ANA CURIE!”The whole district froze. Then in the front row, the sobs of a little girl, barely 12 rose over the crowd. Ana was small for her age and blind in her right eye. Her hair was the color of straw and her one good eye was big and brown, while the other one had fogged over. She was pushed on stage by Peacekeepers. “Don’t be afraid,” the Escort told her. “You’re Ana?”The girl nodded, swaying back and forth with nervous energy. “Are there any volunteers?”No one said anything. District Three wasn’t like the Careers or the Naturals. Volunteers weren’t a part of District Three’s way of life. They had been rebels and it was participating as little as possible was their way of still keeping the fight going. - ONE SUCCESS – Ana is terrified to be going into the games.
- TWO SUCCESSES – She is a ball of nervous energy. She can’t remember perfectly still.
- THREE SUCCESSES – The loss of sight in her left eye as resulted in no depth perception.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – She is light on her feet.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – There are burn marks on her hands and arms. Demo specialists have those same types of burns.
“And now the boys!... WILLIAM JOBS!”At least this one was older than 12. The boy was skinny and boney. He didn’t eat as often as he would have liked. But that was everyone in District Three. Their part in the Rebellion had cost him. He rose the steps, knowing that he was probably going to die. “You must be William, yes?”The boy nodded. “You must be excited to go to the Capitol.”William just looked at the Escort and shrugged. “A boy for few words,” the Escort commented. - ONE SUCCESS – Bill is seemingly aloof. Apathetic even.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He moves like a shark through, cutting through the crowd fluidly.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He’s a runner.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – He terrified. Absolutely terrified. Even more scared than the girl, his district mate.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – His hands look delicate, suggesting that he’s not martial.
District Four District Four ReapingDistrict Five “TYNDALL SPARKS!”A woman shrieked at the sound and what could be assumed as the woman’s husband looked crushed. But Tyndall didn’t. At 18 she looked calm. She stepped onto the stage with her head held up high. She knew she’d be here one day. And she had resigned herself to that fate. But Tyndall wouldn’t give up. “Anything you’d like to say?” the Escort asked. “No. Panem’ll know what I’m about soon enough.”- ONE SUCCESS – She athletic, a runner perhaps.
- TWO SUCCESSES – Tyndall is trying to mask her emotions.
- THREE SUCCESSES –Tyndall is nervous. Though she looks calm, she's scared. She doesn't know what to expect in the Arena.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – She has the body of an archer. Though it's quite possible she has never seen a bow.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – Her hands and arms have burn marks consistent with someone that likes to play with things that go boom.
“And for the boys… CYPHER LOCKE!”The crowd parted and a boy around Tyndall’s age was standing, with a smirk on his face. He was flipping a coin in his hands and occasionally he rolled it down his knuckles with the deftness of an expert gambler. He sauntered on the stage. He looked like someone that you’d overlook; you wouldn’t pay any attention to this boy. He didn’t look remarkable at all. “Are you a tribute of few words as well?”Cypher smiled and took the Escorts wrist and brought the mic closer to his face. “You tell me.”- ONE SUCCESS – His manual dexterity is very finely controlled.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He is light of his feet; agile.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He’s not physically strong.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – He’s very good at misdirection.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – He stole the Escort’s bracelet when he touched her wrist.
District Six “CONCORDIA BLIT!”The crowd parts and the Peacekeepers corral a young girl of only 14 years of age. Four younger siblings not even of Reaping age begin to wail. Despite being young, they know what happens after this. Despite having a victor last year, District 6 is still aware of their chances. Connie had very pale skin and white blonde hair. She was average height, and was on the slightly too thin side of things. - ONE SUCCESS – Connie’s trying to put on a brave face for her siblings but she’s scared.
- TWO SUCCESSES – She is kind and conscious of others
- THREE SUCCESSES – She is light on her feet, not making a sound. Stealthy, perhaps?
- FOUR SUCCESSES – Connie is very observant of those around her.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – Her hands are soft hinting to a life of no manual labor.
“How could we forget the boys?”“EWAN VANDER!”There was a pause before a boy began to run down the opening in the crowd everyone was making for him. He dodged, ducked, and dodged under and around the other kids as he made toward the stage. Then he sprang up onto the stage with a flip. He smiled. “Hey.”“Are you’re Ewan?”“We are one in the same.”- ONE SUCCESS – Ewan is an expert runner.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He is seemingly confidant.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He isn’t martial. Perhaps he didn’t need to be because of how quickly he runs.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – He doesn’t make a sound when he walks.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – He is an expert at reading body language. And has a firm grasp of how the game is played.
District Seven District Seven ReapingDistrict Eight “QUIANA LISLE!”The crowd backs away from her. Quiana was a young girl in her mid-teens, with an athletic build. She has dark brown hair and hazel eyes. She looked at the Peacekeepers that came for her and put her hands up. She wouldn’t fight them. She looked like a contender, despite her age. A harder version of some of the smaller victors, Rowan, Aurora… She could be them. “Quiana, what a wonderful name.”Quiana smiled. “Thank you.” - ONE SUCCESS – She is a runner. Built for speed.
- TWO SUCCESSES – She has resolve. She could push through the games by sheer force of will.
- THREE SUCCESSES – She is crafty. Her hands are calloused.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – She is a reader. When she looks at a person she sees them in a way most don’t.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – She’s not a fighter. She’s a scared of the Arena.
“And for the boys…
CARDEN FULLER!”A large boy with large arms and a puffed out chest was lead to the stage. He didn’t move with the same grace as Quiana did. He was looked like a hard individual, but perhaps he wasn’t quite used to the attention. His dark features sort of made him blend into the background. “Carden, don’t be shy. Tell everyone take a look at you.”Carden looked out to the crowd and stared everyone down. “Fierce! I love it.
“Go on shake hands with your district mate.”Neither of them moved. “It’s a tradition.”“Maybe that’s why we always lose,” Carden said. “We play by the rules.” Quiana’s eyes widen. “District Eight’s Tributes for the 28th Hunger Games!”- ONE SUCCESS – Carden is physically intimidating.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He works with his hands.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He looks strong. But he isn’t graceful.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – The way he moves suggest he is a boxer or some sort of fighter.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – He doesn’t want to ally with district mate. Alliances make him uneasy. He doesn’t trust them.
District Nine District Nine ReapingDistrict Ten “JESSAMINE GRANT!”A young girl let out a slow whistle. “Always knew my number would come up sooner or later…” she chuckled. “I was hopin’ for later. But I reckon it’s out of my hands.” She walked up there with a smile on her face, chewing on the end of a piece of straw. She was wearing worn boots and dark jeans with a light button up. “Jeassmine, tell us about yourself.”“First off, darlin’, it’s Jessie. My mama calls me Jessie. My friends call me Jessie. I want Panem to know me as Jessie.” “Sorry, Jessie.”“Ain’t nuthin’ to be sorry ‘bout, Darlin’. We ain’t to formal in the Ten.” “Ah, right… Well is there a volunteer.”Jessie shook her head. “Oh, don’t no one steal my thunder, ya hear?” “A tribute that thinks the odds are in her favor.”“Darlin’ the odds are ALWAYS in my favor.” - ONE SUCCESS – She’s scrappy or spunky. People in her district would say she has heart.
- TWO SUCCESSES – She’s light and quick on her feet. Agile.
- THREE SUCCESSES – She’s been hurt before. She knows how to get knocked down and get right up.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – She’s looks like a fighter.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – She’s never held a blade in her hands but she does appear to have some kind of hidden talent.
“ZACHARIAH WYATT!”A boy strolls out from the crowd, tipping his hat so everyone could see his grin. He like, Jessie was chewing lazily on the end of a piece of straw. And he sauntered onto the stage was a confident swagger to his steps. “You much be Zachariah… Or do you have some other name you’d like to be called?”Zach chuckled. “Sweetheart you can call me whatever you want.” Some people laughed. “Don’t you go asking for a volunteer. Me and Jessie we’re goin’ in the Arena. Ain’t that right, Jess?” Jessie nodded. “Damn straight.” “The Tributes for District Ten!”- ONE SUCCESS – Zach is a goof ball through and through
- TWO SUCCESSES – He’s got scars on his body and one right above his right eye.
- THREE SUCCESSES – He’s not pretty, but he turns heads. This is due to the fact that he’s very expressive.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – He’s more of an acrobat than someone who could be called athletic.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – He’s got a devilish streak, like he could pick a person apart if he gets the ammo on a person.
District Eleven “IDA SOMMERSET!”Ida was dressed in white. She smiled back at her siblings. They weren’t standing in the square with her. Her youngest sister was 19. She wouldn’t have any angel to save her. If she had been younger perhaps, but she was 15. No one was going to help her. She was humming as she walked up onto the stage. “Ida, what are you singing?”“An old song we sing in the orchards,” she replied, pushing her curly black hair out of her face. Her light green eyes was in stark contrast to her caramel complexion. “Could you sing a bit of that for us?”“Oh, I don’t know. I’m not very good.” “Let Panem be the judge of that.”“Oh… okay… “Hold my hand… Ooh, baby it’s a long way down to the bottom of the river. Hold my hand… Ooh, baby it’s a long way down, a long way down.
“If you get sleep or if you get none, The rooster’s gonna call in the mornin’ baby. Check the cupboard for daddy’s gun Red sun rises like an early warnin’ The One’s gonna come for you firstborn son His hair’s on fire and his heart is burnin’ Go to the river where the water runs Wash him deep where the tides are turnin’
“And if you fall… And if you fail…
“Hold my hand… Ooh, baby it’s a long way down to the bottom of the river. Hold my hand… Ooh, baby it’s a long way down, a long way down…Her hands were shaking by the end of it. But she had gotten through the song. The escort just stood there in awe. “That was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.”“Thank you.” - ONE SUCCESS – She has a beautiful singing voice.
- TWO SUCCESSES – Ida is graceful, more than she is athletic. Has the body of a dancer.
- THREE SUCCESSES – She moves without making a sound.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – Her eyes seem to be see everything.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – She may not be martial in the strictest sense but there is something about her that says she’s a fighter.
“And now for the boys…
“LOPAX CLOVERFIELD!”You could hear a pin drop. In District 11 Cloverfield was a cursed name. First Nomad. Then Jasmine. Now Lopax. This was his last year. Hell, he was turning 19 in a month. Lopax had been the last of the Cloverfields eligible for the games. And for the first time Jasmine’s cold exterior cracked and a bit of the girl that went into the Arena showed herself. “Lopax, isn’t this exciting? You’ll get to see the Arena from the inside…
“But first: Is there a volunteer among us?”The boys looked down at their feet. Lopax was old enough to take care of himself. “Well…”“I volunteer.” The escort stopped and began to search for the origin of the voice. A boy stepped out from the crowd. He had dark tan skin and amber brown eyes. His head was buzzed short. And he too was humming. “Are you a singer too?”The boy shook his head. “You can’t expect me to sing after Ida.” “No I suppose that would be unfair.”“Yea. A bit.” “Well come up here and introduce yourself.”He walked up onto the stage. And Lopax stepped down. For a brief moment the boys crossed each other. Neither of them said anything but it was there; a silent thanks. “What’s your name?”“Xenon Reeds. People here call me Eks.” “Why did you volunteer?”“’Cause if I didn’t no one would’ve.” - ONE SUCCESS – Eks is stocky, with a medium build and strong arms.
- TWO SUCCESSES – He’s musical in some way, just not a singer.
- THREE SUCCESSES – For a big guy, he moves without making a noise.
- FOUR SUCCESSES – His eyes taken in all of his surroundings.
- FIVE OR MORE SUCCESSES – He is a fighter. Perhaps not a warrior. But give him time.

"Thanks for this," Crystal smiled as she took a seat at the table. "- I'm eager to get started. I think Jaeger did great with the bowl thing. But.. one of many?" She shares Bronze's frown. "Lets take a look."She glances at the screen for an instant before saying. "Can I have a pen and paper, please?"She begins to write immediately, making a list as the district two Reaping begins to play. Crystal pauses to watch the Reaping, cocking her head as the district two female is on the screen. "She's a cipher, a sphinx." Crystal shrugs. "I naturally want to ally with the careers, but I can't get a read on her. Jaeger?" She looks to her ally. "I like him." She jabs her pencil at the screen at Trajan's Reaping. "Classic career. He'll probably kill us in our sleep, but sleep is over rated, right?" At the district three Reaping, Crystal's wry joke and smile slides off of her face. Her eyes are rivetted to Ana. As the girl bounces around, Crystal runs a thumb over her district pin, over the gold engraved letters that spelled 'Nell'. The food and drink were ignored in favor of claiming a pen and some paper for himself. They could indulge later once the research was done and Jaeger had no interest in wasting any of the precious moments of life they had remaining. Unlike the poorer districts that would already be giving in to Capitol distractions, Jaeger's preparation and training for the Games was officially starting here. First up was Verity Nero, the District Two Female. "Confident, graceful, but doesn't look like a fighter. That's a bit odd for a Career, especially a volunteer Career. She works a crowd well though. She's bound to be better skilled than she looks." Jaeger's messy shorthand started to fill the page in an uneven scrawl as his eyes remained firmly fixed on the video, each page representing a district and each side reserved for the male or female within. The District Two Male looked like the typical brutish Career that made it through to the Games every so often, and Jaeger was annoyed that nothing seemed to stand out about him. He wrote down a reminder to re-review the footage later on. Next came District Three. "Blind in her right eye, you can tell when the camera zooms in there. She's terrified, can't really blame her." Jaeger commented. "Her partner however... he's the opposite. Cool, calm and collected, even with his life on the line. That movement and build? He's probably good on his feet, not a bad skill to have in the Games." Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D4M" 9,7,9,8,1,4 (3 successes) Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D4F" 7,8,6,8,7,4 (2 successes) Please let me know what I learned in your next post. District 4's tributes... now there was an interesting pair. Jaeger's attention was riveted to the screen as he gleaned the footage for any bit of information he could get, his hand a blur on the page as he wrote down anything of interest. District Five's Male was again, hard to get a read on. Aside from being clearly dextrous, there wasn't much Jaeger could pick up on. The female however... "She's nervous... trying to hide it. Athletic, another runner. She's going to struggle in the Games if she can't keep that fear under control." Jaeger stated. Jaeger's notes were laid out in clear view for his District partner to look at, not that he wasn't sharing as he went along. He would be depending on Crystal for his life during the Arena. Secrets would only do more harm than good at this point, and he needed her to know she could trust him with her life.

"Looking at that lot as far as alliances go..." Crystal looks at the sheet. "District two, hands down. I didn't get that she wasn't a fighter, but if she's a volunteer - she knows that she has something. Something that we can use."
District three again. Crystal presses her lips together as she inspects Ana. "She moves alot," She mentioned. "-I... like her." She glances towards Jaeger quickly, guaging his thoughts.
"My brother will kill me if we ally for district four," Crystal smiles. "- he's xenophobic and annoying. He's... different. But she seems interesting, right? Do you like Four for an ally?"
She shrugs. "I wasn't in love with them last year."
"A runner?" She glances at the screen, jotting a note. "Hard to catch, then. I don't blame her on being nervous. Its going to be terrible in there. But.. do you see anything spectacular in five?"

Jaeger Thorn, District One Male The Boy Who Chose His Own Destiny
"District Two's girl only doesn't LOOK like a Fighter. The fact she's a Career and a Volunteer one at that would suggest her appearances are deceptive. I mean, I'm well known as a village prankster, but my talents go beyond mere parlor tricks, believe me."
Jaeger considered District Four carefully, re-reading his notes.
"We'll come back to Four later. I don't see anything much in Five, but I had trouble reading the guy... I think alliance wise we need a good mix of skill, power and knowledge. The guy from 2 screams brute force that's for sure, but we could use someone with a few... specialized skills we don't have. Districts Three and Five have used explosives in the Games before... we might get lucky and find someone with similar talents this year."

We protect them in fights and share what we have and they can help us out when the arena turns." "Hmm..." Crystal stared at the screen for a moment. "Lets talk to five at the center. See if they have anything we agree on." "District one male strikes me as confidant and intimidating. Trajan would be a good Bath ally, but maybe a fair weather friend." "Now, Connie-" Crystal watches the district six Reaping video again. "Connie’s trying to put on a brave face for her siblings but she’s scared. I get the feeling that she's kind and conscious of others." Crystal stared at Connie's image on the screen. "Six won the last Games - and she was a healer. Maybe we should talk to her at the center?" She glances at Jaeger. Crystal had a good feeling that she had gained some insights on district 7, but she couldn't put a finger on it yet... "Quiana is built for speed - another runner. She could push through the games by sheer force of will." Crystal mused. "Need to watch out for her. Or recruit her. Eight had guts last game." Crystal glanced towards the mentors. "Do you have any ideas of who we could approach for alliances? We both have our skills with weapons and we'd like to round out our alliance."

"Do you have any ideas of who we could approach for alliances? We both have our skills with weapons and we'd like to round out our alliance." "Well uniting the Careers is definitely a move we can't afford not to make... with four fighters in the alliance including us two, I think we need a couple of people with skills we don't possess, like demolitions or archery perhaps?" Jaeger turned his attention back to the video feed, which was now showing District 7. Damn, he'd have to go back for District 6 again later. Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D7M" 10,2,2,4,2,2,4 (1 success) Jaeger Thorn rerolled 6 dice to "D7F" 2,4,3,6,8,1 (1 success) Jaeger remained quiet during the screening of District 7, trying to compensate by writing down everything he could notice on the pair of tributes that came from there, though his lapse had broken his concentration. By the time he regained focus, the footage had moved on again to District 8. "Quiana huh?" Jaeger watched her closely for a few moments. "We have another runner... and something more dangerous. That look in her eyes... she's not scared at all, she's determined, confident. If we don't recruit her, she might pose a serious threat. Ally or kill. The boy's strong. Judging by his words, probably not opposed to getting his hands dirty, they certainly look well used." District 9 passed in silence and furious scribbling of notes again. Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D9M" 2,3,3,2,10,2,5 (1 success) Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D9F" 10,4,5,7,7,1,9 (2 successes District 10's girl was interesting to say the least, but the guy was harder to get a read on. "She's got spunk at least." Jaeger commented, amused by the girl's attitude. "Walks light on her feet, probably agile. Those scars too." Jaeger pointed out what the camera showed. "She's no stranger to injury, she could probably take a whack and spring to her feet in seconds. Shame about her partner, looks a right goofball. Suppose looks could be deceiving again..." District 11's footage couldn't roll around quick enough. For some reason Jaeger really didn't like that District 10 guy... The girl from Eleven certainly took his mind off him however as she sang her heart out into the microphone. It was a testament to her performance that he was completely captivated until the District 11's male came on the screen. Didn't seem that much to look at to be honest, though his arms packed a fair bit of muscle. Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D12M" 10,4,1,10,2,8,7,7 (3 successes) Jaeger Thorn rolled 6 dice to "D12F" 10,5,1,1,3,9,7 (2 successes) A few minutes later, Jaeger gratefully rested his aching pen-hand and rubbed at his eyes with the back of a hand. "That was hard work... not that I want to watch it all again, but I wondered if we could take another look at certain bits of the footage? I have a few people here I wouldn't mind taking another look at."

"I liked District eight in the last games. They were the ones who catapulted every one into fighting. But-" Crystal had to mention. "- they're quicksilver, mercurial. They were loyal to Bailey and Cotton was the first to stab Jan. We'd have to ensure we never rely on them to guard us while we sleep, while attempting to make them feel trusted..." Crystal shook her head. "Might be the biggest tightrope of the alliance, but it could be worth it. We should make a meeting with their mentors once we meet them in person. See if we have any chemistry at all."
"District 11 is dangerous," Crystal frowned at the district 11 Reapings. "They brought out two victors in the Quarter Quell. Jasmine's kill count nearly met Silver's and she didn't start off seeming so blood thirsty. If they don't ally, I'd put her at a #3 kill position."
"District Twelve is the same thing. Ember and Jan proved that the 'Naturals alliance' thing is a real threat. If they don't ally, we need to eliminate them. Fast. Because the Naturals extends to more than two districts and they could outnumber us." She glances for Jaeger for his opinion.
"Seven seems unusual. The same faces, Wistar and that Jenny girl. They obviously love torturing Rory, but she's not going to be our opponent. That one girl talking about coming home was odd. I'd say we stay away from her."
"Yeah, lets watch them again. See whose our #2 pick after District 2." Crystal picked up the remote and after clarifying which one Jaeger wanted, set the Reaping to play again.
"From what we have right now, whose your ally pick after District 2?"
