The first night didn't do anything to help the tributes to prepare for today. It was meeting with the design team and the presentation of the tributes. When morning broke, the first day of training truly began. Tributes got up for breakfast, telling their mentors about how well they slept despite their nerves. Once breakfast was over, the mentors lead their tributes to the training center. {You can tag a mentor to ask a question about training if you wish, and I'll reply back retroactively.} On the fair wall, a long table holds several men and women wore expensive robes with the symbol of the Hunger Games emblazoned upon them. Gamemakers obviously. Among them once more is Matthias, the Head Gamemaker. The emotional one. He looked especially interested in the volunteers. As you move into the Training Center, you walk by these training stations: - Animal Identification - Investigation
- Animal Training - Animal ken
- Archery - athletics
- Axes - weaponry
- Boxing - brawl
- Blowguns - weaponry
- Camouflage - stealth
- Chakram - athletics
- Climbing: The climbing station features a rock wall, a rope climbing excercise and a tree saddle where you practice scurrying up trees - athletics
- Edible Insects - survival
- Edible Plants & Medicinal Plants - survival
- First Aid - medicine
- Fire - making - survival
- Hand - to - hand combat - brawl
- Knots - survival
- Shelters - survival
- Slingshots - weaponry
- Spears - weaponry
- Sprinting - athletics
- Swimming (complete with an indoor pool) - athletics (and gain swimming skill)
- Sword Training - weaponry
- Stealth - stealth
- Throwing weapons (throwing axes and knives) - athletics
- Tracking - investigation
- Tridents - weaponry
The Stat Increase Courses - Weightlifting (Strength)
- Balance beam and bars (Dexterity)
- Memorization: a large wooden block under water, marked with six designs on interlocking wooden blocks (Wits)
- Endurance course: One appears to be a vertical challenge of jumping high distances and climbing irregular rocks while infrequent weather changes such as gusts of wind or buckets of hail rain down. (Stamina)
- Persistence course (Composure)
- Acting course (Manipulation)
- Tree Course: The last tree course appears to stretch between six tall trees, spaced about nine - twelve feet apart. Each tree has some attachment - a rope, a perch, likely meant to propel one to the other tree. (Dexterity)
New Merit Courses - Learn a fighting style
- Perception Tests (Trained Observer)
- Fighting Finesse (Pick a weapon and learn to use your dexterity instead of strength)
Note that your character has to meet the prerequisites to gain any new merits and they will be just as time comsuming as the stat increases. With each course completed your character will also gain a specialty in whatever they trained as well as a stat increase. I'll post the training results in the OOC thread.

Crystal enters the training center and glances around the room. She looks to see where district seven, eight and nine are headed.
"Hmmm..." She glanced between the first aid station and the edible survival stations.
"Do you perfer bugs or plants?" She asked Jaeger jokingly, nodding to the stations. She speaks normally so that all can hear her. Her next question is whispered as she turns her head, speaking closely to Jaeger's ear.
"I'll go keep an eye on district eight. I'll catch up with you."
Crystal pauses for a minute, looking between the edible plants station and edible bugs station. She walks over to the edible plants and medicinal plants station, glancing it over with curiousity.
"Hello." She greets the trainer. "I think I'm your first student. What are we doing today?"

They came into the training center together, and he watched the room for just a moment. So much to do and so much to learn, and he looked sidelong at Kaliana. "This one will go to the dexterity station. Perhaps after lunch, to the survival stations?"

Jaeger pondered the various options on display around the vast training hall. So much he could choose, so little time to learn it in...
Gently he got the attention of one of his district mentors.
"I'd like a station where I can put my quick Wits to the test." Jaeger requested under his breath. "Then I was thinking work on my Dexterity, Stealth and Athletics training after that... I'm gonna need to get my reaction times up for the arena."

Crystal: Edible Plants & Medicinal Plants Station I
Arriving at the Edible Plants & Medicinal Plants station, Crystal finds a trainer setting out several different kinds of vegetables. Two were squat yellow vegetables, one colorless tuber root and several thin, reedy looking green plants.
The trainer nods to Crystal with a grin. "Looks like. So we'll just get to work, yes?
"Two of these can be found in a forest environment. This," He points to the thin reeds. "- can be found in a lake setting. You'll have to be able to differentiate this from common, inedible reeds. Have you ever had the opportunity to root in a garden?"
Jaeger: Wits Course I
"Hello, I am called Siobhan," the trainer said in a Capitol accent. "Please have a seat and well shall begin."
Siobhan had Jaeger sit in front of a large screen with a small console in front of him. "On the large screen I will show you a picture on the left. Memorize it and when you're ready click the picture and another large picture will appear on the left as well as three smaller pictures on the right. One of those pictures on the right will be the first picture on the left. Select it and repeat the process two more times."

Dylan: Dexterity Course (Balance Beam) I
"Hello, I am Carideen," the trainer said in a Capitol accent. "Please follow me and well shall begin."
Carideen had Dylan follow him to a balance beam that was about six inches wide and 9 feet long. He vaulted onto the beam and walked across, nimbly.
"You'll make three passes forward, back, and then forth once more. When you're done, dismount and we will begin again."

Crystal Edible & Medicinal Plants Station
Crystal leans forward and looked at the different kinds of vegetables on display. The reedy looking plants were given a second look - those were edible? This Games was definitely going to be a different experience when dining on those plants. Crystal looked across at the trainer.
"No, sir." She replied. "I don't have much experience with plants. Are all of these edible?"
She pointed at the color-less tuber. "Is that found in the forest as well or somewhere else?"

"He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." Dylan nodded, offering the trainer a half-smile. He had found that most seemed to expect him to be stoic and sullen. Dylan was neither of these things, and never had been. then again, he hadn't ever expected himself to be in this place. "Of course." He mounted the balance beam the way the trainer did, and he could see this being much like his own experiences walking along the edges and rails of boats. Boys and girls did silly things when they were young, and Dylan was no exception. He remembered his father yelling at him once for just this thing.... ...And he stumbled, falling off of the beam on the second pass. It was embarrassing a bit, but he just laughed at himself, and got back up onto the beam. He would have to do better than that. "Seems I will have to focus a bit more, yes?" He grinned, making his third pass. 2013-12-31 23:50:08 [HG28] Dylan Lee Jones rolled 6 dice to "Dexterity + Athletics" 7,10,6,4,1,6,8 (2 successes) 2013-12-31 23:51:12 [HG28] Dylan Lee Jones rolled 6 dice to "Dexterity + Athletics" 1,7,2,3,4,7 (0 successes) 2013-12-31 23:51:40 [HG28] Dylan Lee Jones rolled 6 dice to "Dexterity + Athletics" 3,1,5,10,5,1,1 (1 successes)

Jaeger listened to the instructions with a feeling of mounting dread. He had been expecting something to test his reaction times, and this memory recall test had somewhat thrown him for a loop. As he took a look around the room, he couldn't help but notice the D4 Male falling off a balance beam and landing square on his backside. Not the best first impression to give to potential allies of his skills. It was a combination of these factors that led Jaeger to hastily request a privacy screen be set up. Within a minute, one was put in place by several Avox assistants that had been standing around the edges of the room. Jaeger felt more at ease now, and settled back into the chair to study the console and the pictures. Jaeger Thorn rolled 4 dice to "Wits + Resolve #1" 8,2,7,4 (1 success) Jaeger Thorn rolled 4 dice to "Wits + Resolve #2" 2,2,2,6 (0 successes) Jaeger Thorn rolled 4 dice to "Wits + Resolve #3" 6,1,1,4 (0 successes) As the screen went blank and displayed his results (thankfully for his eyes only) Jaeger's face contorted into an angry grimace, clearly unhappy with his performance. It looked like putting up the privacy screen had been a good idea after all.

Jaeger, Wits Station
"Not to worry." Siobhan assured after interpreting his grimace. "You're life has not led you to practice for this moment. You need to prepare. We will begin with scanning techniques."
Siobhan pressed a button and six squares flipped over, showing a variety of black shapes. "There are several scanning methods you can use. Left to right, break the screen into quadrants and check each one or simply zigzag among them." The trainer pressed three buttons that showed Jaeger a red line - representing his eye- moving among the shapes in the scanning methods that she had described - first left to right and so on.
Siobhan pressed a screen and four squares turned over. There was a berry shape, an eagle shape, a basket shape and a circle. "We will work on memorizing four images. At the end of the allotted time, the other portion of the board will appear beside these shapes. Touch one image and then touch the corresponding image as quickly as you can."
"Memorize." She advised as the timer ticked in the corner of the screen down from twenty seconds. At the end of twenty seconds, the screen added shapes and Jaeger was looking at a total of sixteen shapes - a circle with a swirl at the top that was NOT the original circle, a carrot, a dagger and more...

Jaeger listened intently to the advice the instructor was giving him, trying it out on the presently displayed shapes. Okay, focus on his goal without being distracted this time. He wouldn't fail again... he hoped.
Jaeger Thorn rolled 5 dice to "Wits + Resolve + 1" 1,8,6,10,4,4 (2 successes) Jaeger Thorn rolled 5 dice to "Wits + Resolve + 1" 5,10,9,4,4,10,10,5 (4 successes) Jaeger Thorn rolled 5 dice to "Wits + Resolve + 1" 9,5,2,7,9 (2 successes)
It took Jaeger but a few seconds to spot the first of the four shapes. The next two came fairly quickly thereafter thanks to the advice of his instructor Siobhan. The last took a bit more effort to discover its matching counterpart, but before the timer ended Jaeger had pressed that one too. As the display shut down with a small jingle denoting success, Jaeger's face split into a grin for the first time since he'd arrived at the Capital, clearly pleased by his efforts.
"Thank you." Jaeger acknowledged Siobhan's assistance gratefully.

Crystal, Edible & Medicinal Plants Station
"It can be. It usually grows well in damp woods."
The instructor carefully uprooted a specimen so that Crystal could get a better look at it.
"This is Aconite, also known as Monkshood or Wolfsbane. The root can be used as medicine despite it containing poisonous chemicals that are harmful if consumed. Despite this property, some do take aconite orally for things such as cold hands and feet, inflammation and fever. It can also be used as a disinfectant to treat wounds.
"Now your first test."
He led Crystal over to a large tray of plants, similar but with subtle differences.
"There are three specimens of Aconite here and several imposters. I want you to identify and carefully extract the three correct plants."

She picked one up on the end and gingerly set it closer to the trainer. After several seconds of close examination, Crystal sighed. "I can't tell them apart." She admitted to the trainer. To QuinnTalon"Yes," The trainer agrees with Dylan. "- its not the easiest thing to learn, but you will learn it with perseverance."As Dylan completes the third pass, the trainer nodded approvingly. "Lets work on your sense of balance with lower risk. The exercise after this is a higher balance beam and I don't want to attempt that until you are ready."
The trainer leads Dylan to two balls with a circular stand. The balls are currently listed to one side, resting on the stand. The trainer steps up onto the ball, one foot on each side. The ball wobbles and the trainer balances by adjusting her hands and posture. "This is designed to be uneven and unbalanced. Place your foot on either side and try to stand up straight. You'll wobble and may fall, but the important thing is to learn the self correcting stance."
The trainer lowered her hands and let her ball 'fall', the stand striking the floor. The trainer remained unharmed on the ball, demonstrating that no harm could be gained from the fall. Please make 3 Dexterity + Athletics with +1 mod To Jake
Siobhan accepted the gratitude gracefully with an incline of her head. "There is much to learn," She assures Jaeger. "-but you have made progress. Which scanning method do you prefer?""Now I want you to study the board. There are sixteen shapes here. Attempt to memorize as many as possible. In thirty seconds, the board will be made blank. The images will be where they were and you must match them to the twin." Skill Specialty: Memorizing And Remembering

Crystal: Edible & Medicinal Plants Station
"Admittedly it's not a task I would expect someone of your District to excel straight away in given the lack of opportunity to practice in your home life. The fact you are willing to learn it is most admirable indeed." The trainer smiled reassuringly, showing that the first blunt half of his statement was just that, and not intended to cause offense.
The instructor removed each of the potential tubers from the tray, pointing out several features that had not previously been visible due to being submerged in the soil. Some confirmed the root to be Aconite while others proved it to be something else.
"As you find it difficult to tell which is which while in the ground, you can dig up the specimens to find a few more revealing signs. While this is obviously more time-consuming in the long run, it will make the job easier."
A second tray was brought over with a fresh sample of tubers.
"This time, feel free to remove the tubers from the tray."

She was aware that other tributes could see her struggling and she directed her eyes only to the tray. She was a child of her district, it was natural for her to struggle with this station. Hopefully it wouldn't cost her too much in the long run. The brunette began to uproot the plants, attempting to duplicate her trainer's example. The first attempt was the best as she saw something of an aconite plant on the tuber. The next two were met with as much confusion as before. Crystal forced herself to set the tubers down and focus on the trainer's next direction. Things that were difficult to learn would stick with her, she hoped. Crystal: Edible & Medicinal Plants Station"Hmm, okay, let's give this one last try." The trainer said kindly, fetching a third tray of tubers and picking up a large knife. This time, he cut into the tuber, pointing out to Crystal more details on the inside that could be used to positively identify the tuber while reiterating what he had already told her. Precious minutes of training time passed around them as Crystal was given a crash course in the medicinal plant. "Now, try again." Jaeger stated, eager to test his skills again. As Siobhan explained the last task however, he couldn't help but look a little uneasy. Sixteen shapes from nothing in thirty seconds? Crystal leaned over the tray as he spliced the root. She picked up a piece and broke it free of the plant, turning it over in her hand. "How would you prepare this?" She asked the trainer, adding with a wry smile. "Assuming that I could ever find it."
As she was focusing on the tray, she set the piece that she had been holding back down. She reached forward and touched a potential tuber with more confidence than before.
This time that she attempted to locate the root she paused, her hand hovering above the tubers. A few moments pass as she hedges, frowning. She leans down and checks the piece of tuber before trying again.
"This is one." She announced confidently. She placed her hand down among the tubers again. "This one."
She finally lowered her hand, stating. "I am finished."

Siobhan waited for Jaeger's words and nodded, pressing her hand down firmly on the button. The screen that had moments before been filled with 16 shapes flickered. The two circles vanished first; then the pyramid shapes - then the whole board was black.
"Now." The trainer pressed a different button and sixteen blank squares were in the place of the shapes. Siobhan pressed one corner of the screen, revealing the pyramid.
"Start by finding the other pyramid. Then touch another square and find its match. Keep on."
Jaeger's hand moved forward, finding the pyramid. He then punched the circle pair; the three waves pair. The last two were the arrow and the dagger shapes. There were more blank squares on the screen, but the screen froze. Jaeger was unable to turn over the blank squares by touching the screen.
"Thirty seconds is up." The trainer explained. "But you didn't do badly. Five matches on your first try. Now what would you like to learn next? What do you need from this station?"
