Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games"It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of sumbitch or another." They'd been led into the train-car by the purple and gold clad woman, and honestly Hadley was afraid to sit on the furniture in here. It was all fine. Finer than the furniture in the Mayor's house even--which was where they'd just been. The only time he'd seen anything so fine was when they'd gone to the Capitol when Peyton had been a Tribute. Hadley wondered if that was a thing they still did. If they took the Tribute's families to the Capitol and 'Hosted' them for the duration of the Games. If they did, the Capitol saved a right bit of money with he and Billie. Only one set of relatives to make nice to from District Ten this year. Still, he felt dusty as he took his hat off and sat in one of the chairs, and as Billie had taken the one next to him. There was food on the table and a glass of water on the little table in front of them, but Hadley just stared at it, and then looked sidelong at his sister. She didn't look happy with him. She wasn't the only one. "Guessin' you're right angry with me, ain't ya?"

Billie North; District 10's Female Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games "Now think real hard. You've been birddoggin' these tributes a while now. And they wouldn't mind a corpse of you. Now you can luxuriate all cozy like while I tie you up, but if your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you." “No...” she sighed, heavily. “I ain't mad. I've met ya before now. I know how you tick...”It was true, Billie knew Hadley better than he knew himself sometimes. Or at least that's what she told people. However, she knew that if her name was ever pulled that one of her brothers would volunteer. Hadley was the only one that could so... Here they were. “I reckon I'm spooked. Didn't think we'd go out like this.”“Ain't nobody going out like this...” Peyton's voice had all of the subtly of a stampede. “Look, I ain't got a lot of time 'fore the other victors come a kick me out. But look at me... I'm working on this on the outside. You two, just work on staying alive... That means drinking and eating even if you ain't hungry... Do it... Or I'll tell Mama on bohth of you.”

The moments tick by, precious few moments of privacy between family. A few more words could be exchanged in haste as the adjoining cabin door opens with the sound of cutting edge technology. Gosling enters the room, her light colored eyes searching out the North family. Cane's voice drifts in, indistinct. The tone is harsh. Perhaps angry. A few words drift into the cabin.
" - I don't give a damn, thats never been done before. I need to meet with my tributes, not have a damn conference call with some Capital buffoon..."
A pause.
"What kind of intel? Is this some kind of trick..." The door slides shut, blocking the conversation.
Gosling walks across the cabin car, ignoring the comm call. "Hello." Gosling say simply, dropping into the chair across from Billie. She pours herself a glass of water and takes a sip. She regards the two tributes and the untouched food and water. "Cane's having a word on the Comm," She explains calmly. " - but don't worry. He'll be along soon enough. Now. What the hell am I going to do with you?"
"In a way, you've saved me a bunch of trouble. I don't have to go into how your district mate will be the best ally you'll get." A wry smile touched her face. "In a way, you've stumbled into a hornet's nest. Young Billie here was Reaped proper, but you went and volunteered. It's like a North Invasion."
She steepled her hands. "I like it. It was damned brave. But I'm sure you've figured out that it was also damned foolish, so we'll skip that. Now. I want us to get a game plan together before we get off this train." She included Peyton in the glance. "So Peyton, lay out the strengths and weaknesses. Don't spare feelins', we got a job to do and you happen to be thier Mentor, now. Ain't no reason to exclude you." The sentence ends abruptly as though she changed her mind on where it was going.

Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games"It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of sumbitch or another." "Ain't both of us goin' out. Whole point of this's so you can go home at tha' end." Hadley said, swallowing. He had no illusions. Hadley was going into the Arena, and he was going to die. That was just the end of it. At least he was lucky enough to know somewhat when it was going to happen. And then Peyton came in, and he blinked at his brother as he basically told them to eat. To drink. To 'just stay alive' or he'd tell Mama on the both of them. Hadley just raised an eyebrow in a trademark 'Macon' look. One of those silently amused things that his adopted brother could pull off. Not that Hadley was anywhere near as intimidating as Macon could be... Peyton smirked at Gosling, and then gestured at them both. "Well...you both pretty-up nice. Can use thata bit. Both 'er quick on their feet. Balance and stuff. Can run quick and climb better. Trick-riders, right? And cunnin' Ain't nothing get passed 'em." He considered Billie for a minute. "Billie's good with a whip too. I reckon that's 'er weapon in the 'Rena.
"Had's good at lassoin'. Good wit' animals. And he can fix or build damn near anythin'."Peyton frowned. "They're bot a mite soft though. Look at 'em.""Ain't no one says Jan Colton or Diadem Gilded are 'soft'. They're prettier than pictures, but they ain't 'soft'" Hadley glared at his brother. "Yeah...but they're both crazy as hell. Crazier than Macon. No lie."

"Alright," Gosling broke in. "You're quick on your feet?" She looked between Billie and Hadley. "Thats good, we need that. The first problem is going to be the Blood Bath. Historically we don't do so great there." She admitted.
"Would you say that you could be quicker than a Career? Or about the same?"
Cane walked in, looking bemused. Gosling quickly listed Billie as a quick on her feet, good at climbing and running sort of girl. She laid out Hadley as that and someone who was good with animals and who was handy.
"Thats good," Cane nodded. "_ that was the most interesting call. Seems like the Game makers are doing something new this year. There will be a new mandatory class... something about recognizing and manipulating structures. Which suggests to me that they have new structures in this arena that serve a specific purpose. One mentioned was a work station." He looked at Hadley.
"What have you built?"

But you ain't at the level of Jace and Diadem.” Peyton countered. “Yet...” Peyton nodded solemnly. “Yet...” He turned to Gosling. “They're both damn good at runnin', jumpin', climbin' and such. Best damn riders in the family.
“But Billie's got a temper on her. She'll rush into a losin' fight, faster than they can get a cannon ready. And we've already seen Had's weakness. It's Billie.” There was a pointed look at Hadley. It was clear that Peyton was conflicted about his decision to volunteer. On the one hand he wanted to be angry with him. On the other it was hard to blame him when Peyton was sure he'd have done the same thing in his boots. Billie kicked him from under the table, hard right in the shin. Peyton swore up a storm and glanced at Gosling. “See...”“We ain't soft,” Billie said. “And we ain't weak either... We can be faster than any Career. Any day of the week.”

Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games"Man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything ... "." He listened to what they were all saying. What Peyton was saying and he sort of smirked when Billie kicked their brother under the table. He finally picked up his glass, taking a hesitant sip of water because frankly he wasn't sure his stomach could take it. Hadley figured his head and his heart had accepted what was what. His stomach and the rest of him just hadn't caught up yet. So? He wasn't quite hungry yet. And then Cane came into the room, and said something to them about 'new stations'. He wasn't sure what that meant, but... "Not sure what you mean but...Built a few fences by myself. Fixed Widow Callahan's roof 'fore it got too cold last winter. Rebuilt the paddocks. THings like that. Hadley considered telling them the next part, but really: What could it hurt. "I like machines best though. I fixed Mr. Willem's watch. That old pocket-think he keeps that his dead wife gave him? The...first wife, I think. It's been broke for years but I fixed it last week. Made the hay-baler more 'fficient....I'm probably missin' stuff but..Machines got workins' and innards, and they speak ta me. Jus' that simple."He had a little workshop set up in the stables where he had a few of his projects laid out on the workbench. He wasn't sure if Daddy even knew about any of it. CJ tended to just work around him when he was in there. "Pey's right though. Me and Billie can ride better than most. And Billie's got it: We're quick. Not much good in a fight, but ain't nobody can catch us if we really put our minds ta runnin'. Prolly 'cause we don't see most things as obstacles. Comes from all the trick-ridin' we do."[Hadley has Crafts 5. With Make Do 3. He's..kind of a prodigy]

"Machines," Gosling turned to Cane. "- when was the last time that there was a machine in the arena?"
Cane considered it for a minute and then turned to Peyton. "I got nothin'. " Cane admitted. "What do you remember, Peyton? You're younger than both of us."
"If they know about it, the arena may accommodate it." Gosling suggested. "They accommodated the Day of Peace."
"Or horses?" Cane wondered. "Horses would be an ideal transportation for an arena." Gosling stated slowly. "Really, its surprising that there haven't been any. We should definitely try and show that off."
"The parade has horses, Billie and Hadley." Cane suggested. "Could you ride the horses instead of wave from the carriage?"
The two older Victors glance towards the tributes, eyebrows raised with curiosity.
"Mechanical and machines, you're equally skilled in both, right?" Gosling suggested. "Crafting is going to be an excellent skill in the arena."

Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games"Machines got workins' and innards, and they just...talk ta me." Ride the horses? "We could do that?" He couldn't imagine that there hadn't been Tributes from Ten before who could ride. "Could do some tricks. Whatcha thinkin' Billie?""An' wasn't there machines in twenty-six?" Hadley asked. He'd been seven years old. That was four years before Peyton won. Which was the year before Hadley was even eligible for the Games. Now he was sixteen. Two years away. He'd almost made it... Billie was worth it. "Could ask Ember an' Jan. Lessin' they have all them rugrats underfoot." Peyton shrugged. "The ridin' tha Parade could be another thing set 'em apart from the rest. Ain't no one else gonna do that. Trickin' might help too. Cause you want 'em to remember you."

It was an exaggeration. But she wasn't a half bad bull-rider either. There was just something about horses. Give her a horse and she knew how they worked. She knew what made them tick. “Make it memorable,” Peyton stressed. “Ain't gonna mean a ruttin' thing if they don't remember ya.”“We get it, Pey. Ease up...” Billie said. “Can't. The 'Rena won't ease up. Those tributes won't ease up. Ain't a rutting thing about this gonna be easy,” Peyton told them. “Whatever, I think it's shiny,” Billie replied. “Ridin' is what we do. And it ain't been seen yet.”

"Which machines?" Gosling inquired of Hadley. "I can't recall them." "Don't think we had a great year in twenty six." Cane recalled with a voice as rough as gravel with emotion. "Mean to remedy that now. So we need to get you with some tools. Hadley. You with a whip, Billie. Hadley, you ever wonder what weapon you'd favor?"Gosling pulled out fresh crisp sheet of parchment paper nearly three feet long. She laid it out across the table, pushing away the untouched food. She set out writing instruments and made two columns entitled 'Billie' and 'Hadley'. She hastily jotted down what the North clan had put forth - trick riders, fast, clean up well - as well as the specific skills that set the siblings apart from one another. In the other space she continued writing names. District One Male Castor Akakios Age 17
Tall and athletic- District One Female
Rhapsody Beau Age 18 Cold eyes - District Two Female
Comet Berry Age 16 District Two male Steel Leander Age 17 Steel of District Two was of middling height standing at only 5'8'' District Three Female Davena Pond, Age 15 District Three male Silas Areleous Age 12 District Four Female Ela Wakefield Volunteer- Sam Winchester
District Five Female Emerson Balfour Age 13 District Five male Harris Giles
Age 16
District Six Female Lexus Hartell Age 14 District Six male Ford Drake Age 17 District Seven Female Grace Fields Age 15
District Seven male Gerald Aias Age 13 District Eight Female Autumn Abbott Age 16
District Eight male Mick Kenyon Age 17
District Nine Female Cheyenne York Age 17
District Nine male Don Crawford Age 17 Volunteer District Eleven Female Serena Springfield Age 18 Volunteer District Eleven Male Jaycob Rook Age 16
District Twelve Female Orestes Underwood Age 16 (Derived from (orestias) meaning "of the mountains") Dark haired, sober spirit
District Twelve Male Greyson Hawkins Age 17
"I scanned the vids before we walked in here. I have them on the screen if you want to go watch, but this is who you are up against."Gosling leaned back and looked at the list. "Four made a good showing. Ela volunteered for her younger cousin. No idea why Serena volunteered... not many volunteers from Eleven. She's of good age, too. Nearly made it."She looks between Billie and Hadley. "What do you think?"

Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games "Machines got workins' and innards, and they just...talk ta me." [/div] "In the factory. Where they holed up in? Wasn't there machines?" Hadley may have been remembering it wrong, but he remembered machines. It didn't matter. There was a good chance that he'd be able to pull something off here. "Don't matter none. Ifn' I show 'em I'm good at it, and they like me 'nough, they may give me some, right? Like the boy from Four and the Poisons in twenty-nine."Morgan Delmara. Who was a Victor, and...Peyton shuddered. Weird. "Lots of volunteers this year. Again. It dropped off there for awhile. 'Cept with Careers." Peyton stated. "One of your Co-Victors is a Career.""Eh. She's closer to Chase-boy." Peyton answered. "An' ifn' there's any doubt that someone soft can win the Games? Just look at Chase-boy. Ain't never killed a single person. Ever."Hadley just blinked at his brother. "I want to see the Volunteers.Just like they'd probably want to see him.

Every-damn-body thinks that volunteers is the best chance for comin' home... Ruttin' crazies...” Billie said in her usual tactful way. It wasn't a pointed remark at her brother Hadley. Hadley wasn't in for the glory or the money. He wanted to make sure she got home safe. The only problem was now that's what she had to worry about. Not getting herself home, mind you. But Hadley. She had to look out for him like he was going to look out for her. Instead of worrying about her own survival she had to worry about his. “We ain't Chase...” Billie stated, looking at Peyton. “I never said you were, sis. Just sayin'” But Billie cut him off. “No, you keep saying what Daddy always says about us. 'Too soft. Too much like your mother.' I'm ruttin' sick of it. You and me are gonna come to an understand right here and right now.” Billie paused, meeting his eyes. “We ain't soft. We never were. And we have to kill each and everyone of the tributes in that Arena just to prove to you and to Daddy, that's what we'll do. But don't go callin' us soft no more. 'Cause I didn't see CJ putting his hand up for you when you got reaped.”“That was different.” “It was the ruttin' same damn thing and you know it. By my estimations isn't the ones that look soft that you gotta watch out for.” Billie said coolly. Peyton nodded. “I reckon you might be right...” He looked at Hadley. “It's a good place to start.”

"That is true." Cane inclined his head. "I don't think we need to worry about machines. It wouldn't be a difficult thing to include. How will you disclose your affinity for machines?" He inquired. Gosling and Cane shared a look as the siblings disagreed.
"All right, Billie." Gosling suggested. "Cane and I don't think that you're soft. " She glances to Hadley. "It takes a very special person to volunteer... most people just stop and stare, workin' their mouths a bit. You want to see the volunteers..."
Gosling picks up a remote and paws it a bit, finally managing to get a flat - screen television to rise in front of them. "Lets start with district four," Gosling suggested. "- they're always very martial, aren't they?" "Honor code, most of them." Cane broke in, giving Gosling a glance. "Here we are, Ela Wakefield. District Four volunteer..."
The two fall quiet as the video plays, showing district four citizens in plain clothing and somber expressions. The district escort has hair dyed the color of ocean spray, set with dried seaweed. It looked terribly cliche. The escort went through the same honor of tributes spiel and screeched 'Ladies first!" plunging her hand into a glass bowl and came out with a card.
"Lorna Bennet!"
The camera pans over the corral of fifteen to sixteen year old girls. One girl steps forward hesitantly. Lorna's eyes are the color of warm cocoa from the Capital. Her hair is dark brown, so dark it seems nearly black as it is offset by a white braided cord headband Her skin is fair, brushed with a scattering of freckles from the sun. The freckles stand out now as color drains from the girl's face.
"I volunteer!" A girl shouts from nearby. The camera pans to stop on a tall, lithe girl striding through the girls. Her blonde hair is parted slightly off center into an elegant top knot. She places one comforting hand on Lorna's back, leaning in to whisper something. A white clad arm seizes the girl's opposite arm, pulling her from Lorna. The camera pans away sharply, just as a blur of movement erupts The image comes back centering on the stage as the girl takes the stage. Her blonde hair is slightly ruffled now, her light colored eyes shine with agitation.
"Whats your name?" The escort is asking. "Ela Wakefield." "Do you know Lorna Bennet?"
"She's my cousin." Ela bits off sharply, turning to stare the escort in the eye. There's an uncomfortable pause as something - some smudge on Ela's cheek is noticed. The girl turns her head, staring forward at the crowd.
"On to the boys..." The escort states somewhat more quietly and subdued.
"Samael Winchester!" The escort screeches with bravado.
A stocky boy with darker skin approaches the podium calmly, his back erect. He first extends his hand to Ela without prompting, shaking it firmly.
"Ela. A pleasure to be going into the arena with you." He states.
"Samael." Ela nods, stiffly.
"Sam, please." Sam requests. "Sam and Ela," The escort turns the two to face the crowd. "Our tributes for the thirty - fifth Hunger Games. Tell me, Sam, why are you so pleased to be going into the arena with Ela?"
"Loyalty." Sam says simply. "Is to be prized."
"How true," The chipper voice takes something away from Sam's stoic statement, but Sam stares out at the crowd.
"It is a pleasure to enter the arena for you," Ela states. "- please know that we will do our best for you."

"She volunteered for her cousin." Cane observed, rubbing his chin with his hand. "They make make that thier angle. Family values, defending family honor." He wrote 'volunteered for cousin' underneath Ela's name. After a moment's pause, he entered 'stoic' and 'looks strong'.
"All right, lets look at Sam." Gosling suggested.
"Hadley, what do you think of him?" She glances towards Hadley.
"I have some thoughts... he seems to be confident. Or perhaps resigned to die." "I'd suggest sadistic, but I've never seen that out of District Four." Cane stated, staring at the frozen image of Sam.
"He's not very tall. Those shoulders, however... he could be very strong."
Cane wrote 'strong' and 'suggestion of honor code' underneath Sam's name.
"Our next volunteer is Don Crawford out of district nine," Cane checked a note pad. "Do we want to discuss four some more or watch district nine's reaping?"
He asked, looking at the two younger North siblings.

Hadley North; District 10's Male Tribute for the 35th Annual Hunger Games "Machines got workins' and innards, and they just...talk ta me." Hadley watched the District Four Reaping, and the girl who volunteered in place of her cousin with an odd sort of longing. He wasn't a girl, so he couldn't volunteer in Billie's place. Still, he was going with her. That was a good thing. No matter what happened, they weren't going through this alone. "Me and Billie got that family thing too, I reckon. We can use that we're a matched set." He wasn't sure how that would work. "'Sides, we're gonna keep their eyes on us from the beginnin'." Peyton hadn't done that. Peyton had kept his head down and fell below the radar so hard that they barely saw him on the screens during the Games. At least, until he hooked up with Chase and Alex at the end of things. "But I ain't never seen anyone who hooked up wit' Four gettin' the short end. Not in a bad way, anyhow.""Anyone in Twenty-Nine?"No one hooked up with that guy. He just killed everyone. In a very bad way.--------- OOC: I'm cool with moving on to the Training. Below are Hadley's rolls for the Tribute Parade. To be clear, they're doing a bit of trick-riding, and basically makign sure that everyone in the Capitol is talking about the "North Siblings" after that parade. 2015-01-02 16:52:54 [HG 35] Hadley North rolled 12 dice to "Dex + Athletics + Willpower" 10,1,3,1,1,9,3,4,7,8,6,6,7 (3 successes)2015-01-02 17:08:12 [HG 35] Hadley North rolled 8 dice to "Athletics Rote (Parkour)" 4,8,8,2,10,10,3,8,6,10,2 (6 successes)[/font]

"We'll do the best we can with the matched set," Gosling assured. " - we need to assure the sponsors that having both of you become Victors is the best outcome. The sponsors can influence the outcome of the Games with enough pressure. I get the sense that you want to have the cameras on you... I'll think of some angles for you to use through out the Games to ensure that you get screen time. It may be tedious and even seem fake at times, but I assure you, I'll do everything to present you as genuine. As what you are." Gosling assured. "Go ahead and think on that tonight as we prepare for the Parade. We'll start working on your angles and plot at lunch. You'll have training in the morning. I think that I'll retire and rest for the rest of the train ride... a lot to prepare once the cameras are on us." [Go ahead and continue to contribute.
