"We have one." Lacey dragged herself up from the floor and moved to a pack that was sitting by the chair in front of the video screens. She overturned the pack onto the ground, spilling out a length of rope, a flash light, a cooking pot and fishing line -and the sought after medical kit. She pulled it out and handed it over to Felix.
Opening it up, Felix could see that it was on its last legs. The aspirin was gone and there was only one use of trauma pads and bandages left. Sassinak saw this and mentioned: "We can share our medical kit if any one gets hurt."
As Felix examined Coral's back, he found that a six inch square around the arrow wound was completely numb. The wound was bleeding slightly, but it was very superficial. It was those pieces of red, Felix thought as he found flecks of them over Coral's affected skin. Coral bit her lip, clearly worried.
"We wanted to talk to you last night," Lacey explained. "- we had watched you and Sassinak shooting cans. You were very good. We watched the careers move to you and walked to the edge of the jungle. We were going to heal who needed it after the fight. But then we saw someone's funeral and we thought it wasn't a good time."

Felix nodded gratefully at Lacey when she tipped out the contents of her pack and handed him the medicine. It was a kind gesture, especially since it was his alliance that had quite probably killed Bailey. That was something he would keep to himself, however. For all they knew, it could have been the midgets with midget arrows that had got to Bailey before anything else. Too much of a coincidence, however, than just after Boomer’s bomb came a second load roar of a cannon. The positive of the entire situation? Glory and Victoria were dead. He got to work on Coral’s back, “Sass, could you take a look at this..?” Felix asked, his voice soft and quiet as he gently started getting to work on Coral’s wound. He removed the red flecks, if he could, and gently cleaned the wound with the sleeve of his clothes. It wasn’t an effective way cleanser, but they had to make do. He waited for Coral to tell him if what he had done helped her. As he worked, he spoke to Lacey. “Sass is a much better shot than me.” He stated matter of factly, “So you were planning on showing up after what you did to Jan at the ‘Bath? Probably best you didn’t. We wouldn’t be talking right now if you’d shown your faces there.” Felix sounded sympathetic, like he knew they wanted to help, but he was speaking the truth all the same. “So you saved us, being Coral, Sassinak and I, and left the others, because you think we’re sharp shooters?” Guilt now laced his words, “Thank you again. What did you want to talk to us about?”Felix Grayling rolled 8 dice to "healing Coral" 5,1,6,10,4,8,4,6,8 (3 successes)

"I left the others because of the bad blood between Jan and I." Lacey admitted. "Bailey did approach Lily - she liked the little girl - but she was too close to Jan. If I ran up on them in the middle of an attack, I don't think they would have heard my proposition and we would have started fighting immediately. I had to get my people -" She realized Bailey was no longer included in that and teared up. "- Cotton into the Watch tower."
She wiped her eyes and continued. "I want to go out and start taking the fight to whose left. But my people - ahem, Cotton - have other talents that don't lie in fighting. I was hoping one of you wouldn't mind guarding Cotton while he does his providing for our alliance in other ways. If someone wanted to come with me to fight, that would be excellent. We'd split every thing fairly. I wouldn't mind pooling our resources because I understand this isn't a common alliance..."
"Ugh," Coral muttered. "- don't trust the pink lady." "What?" Sassinak leaned in over Coral. Coral repeated that she didn't trust any one who was pink. "Coral, no ones' pink." Sassinak looked to Felix worriedly. Felix was able to bandage Coral's back as the wound was very superficial. Yet Felix now realized that his hands were feeling funny. They also looked extremely large, freakishly large.
"Felix." Sassinak patted Felix's shoulder. "Coral's under the influence of something." She frowns as she studies Felix. "You're eyes are dilated. Are you feeling okay?"
Sassinak picked up her waterskin and poured it onto Coral's back. She picked up the forceps from the med kit and started picking every fleck off of her skin, adding a trickle of water every place where a fleck had been found.

Of course she’d left them because of Jan. He knew that Jan, Ember and Isolde wouldn’t think twice before killing Lacey and Cotton had they approached the entire group. Lacey had knocked Jan out, and Jan had cut Lacey’s face badly. Or so he’d been told. And this meant there was a big distinction between them. Now Felix, Sassinak and Coral had been separated from Lily and Boomer because of it.
How annoying.
He nodded, “Cotton doesn’t fight?” He asks, slightly in disbelief. They boy had lifted and carried Felix seemingly without a care. He must be able to do something more than... Whatever he did. “We’ll work things out...”
Felix trailed off when his hands felt odd. “Sass, my hands feel really weird.” He replied. “This stuff’s weird. And Coral’s seeing pink ladies?” He choked back a laugh, half worried and half because it was slightly humorous. “Don’t touch it.” He warned Sassinak, moving his fingers to try and get rid of the sensation.

"I'm not very good at it..." Cotton admitted. "My eyes aren't real good. I can't see things until they get real close and that normally leads to me getting hurt. But I can make stuff and I can hide real well. The careers didn't know I'd been watching them for awhile."
"We have sort of a system going on." Lacey explained. "One of us watches the cameras-" She points to the four screens showing the horn, the factory, the Hidden City and the Jungle. "- and one of us goes and gathers things like food and water and eats. For some reason, food and water won't keep well in here. We've been hiding it around the river."
She stops talking and leans in, studying Felix. "You don't look well. Here." She picks up one of her water skins and rinses Felix's hands. She picks up his wrist and studies them, frowning. Sassinak moves over with the forceps, rinsing them with water and continuing to pluck any red flecks off of Felix's hands. Lacey and Sassinak worked together, taking turns rinsing and cleaning Felix's hands. A few minutes into it, Felix began to feel light headed.
He felt very odd, like he might be sick. Then the nausea passed and he just felt... good. Like perhaps he wasn't limping around an arena filled with people who wanted to kill him.

Felix nodded, trying to concentrate on the words as Cotton spoke them. He continued to feel strange. “Hiding isn’t my strong suit.” He said slowly, before he considered what Cotton had told him about his eyes. Felix had just learned a weakness. He knew that it was one he may eventually have to exploit, but just the thought of it made him feel slightly bad. Not nearly as much as it should have, however.
He was thinking like his life depended on killing these people, because that’s exactly what needed to happen. Felix listened to Lacey, “This place makes food at water go bad..? That’s funny...” He frowned, “Where do you sleep?”
As the two girls worked on washing Felix’s hands, the nausea came over him and he felt himself need to be sick. It was a horrible feeling, and when it eventually passed and was replaced by the good feeling, he welcomed it like an old friend.
Feeling good was a nice thing, even though it probably wasn’t the best thing at present.
“What was Ember shouting...” He said quietly, dreamily, “Something... Something about noon... And then there’s a Feast or something.” He shook his head, unsure of what he was talking about.
He just felt good.

"We eat out by the river." Lacey stated. "And we sleep in here. We feel safe in here."
"Yes, she was shouting to Eclypse," Sassinak told him. "- I think that they want to have a show down at noon tomorrow. I think its in our best interest to stay the hell away from that."
"Now hold on." Lacey intercepted. "That might be an opening for us. If they are worried about Brass and Eclypse, they may not expect us. And -" She points to the screen that shows a darkened horn. "- we have a bit of an advantage."
"I don't want to take advantage of Lily, Ember and Jan." Sassinak frowned.
"Like they wouldn't do it to us." Coral slurred. "Did you hear any one calling for us in the smoke? The smoke that we didn't make? Did they come looking for us?" She answered her own question, slumping against the wall.
"They ran off on us. They didn't know Lacey had approached us. For all they knew, we were pygmy shish kabobs."

He knew this was going to come. And in his happy state, he didn’t know how to think entirely straight. But he knew he agreed with Sassinak. He shook his head, grunting something before clearing his throat.
“I’m not taking advantage of them after all they’ve done for us.” He stated simply, “Lily and Boomer were a part of our alliance too. They still are as far as I know.” He frowned. Was that entirely true? He had no idea where they were, that wasn’t very alliance-ish to him. And Lily and Boomer had chosen to run away with Ember, Jan and Isolde instead of sticking to the three who had recruited them back in the Capitol.
He felt odd. He’d kind of betrayed them, and they had kind of betrayed him... He shook his head.
“They might do it to us, but I refuse to do it to them. Sorry Lacey.”

"You don't have to apologize." Lacey sat back against the wall opposite of Felix. "We just met each other. " She glanced over to Coral and Sassinak, frowning. Coral's eyes had started to droop. Lacey leaned forward and Coral's hand tightened around her chakram.
"All right." Lacey held her hands up, leaning back. "I was just checking, Coral. You look tired." "I am tired." Coral replied, turning to look at Felix.
"What are we going to do?" "We don't need to decide anything now." Sassinak stated, yawning herself. "You two get some sleep." She stated to Felix and Coral. "I'll take first watch. Maybe things will look better in the morning."

The entire situation was so strange, so alien to Felix that he had no idea how to react.
But the events of that night had taken its toll on him, and having to move around on crutches made his arms ache. He felt it now, how tired he was. Running with his arms was strange and new, something he wasn’t used to. He had to put a lot of effort into just moving around, and so it exhausted him.
He didn’t trust Lacey and Cotton, and odds were that they didn’t trust him all that much either. But they were together for now, and they’d have to be certain that they wouldn’t kill each other in their sleep.
“Coral needs her rest. We’ll take it in turns us two, okay?” Felix said to Sassinak, holding her hand tightly and pulling her closer to him. He wrapped an arm around her and nestled his head on her shoulder.
He closed his tired, blind eyes, knowing he was safe with Sassinak by his side.

"Of course." Sassinak squeezed his hand. "You go ahead and close your eyes. It's going to be all right." She leaned back against the wall, looking down at him as he rested against her. She reached over and pulled her pack near to her, setting it down beside her hip. It would be a good pillow if he needed to shift off of her in the night. Now she raised her eye to look over to look at Lacey. Lacey nestled next to Cotton, looking just as tired. Lacey set her staff beside her and laid her head down on her pack. She closed her eyes and fell quickly asleep.
Cotton and Sassinak found themselves staring at each other through the night. As four hours ticked by, Sassinak nestled the sleeping Felix awake. "Its about eleven P.M..." She whispered. He could see that Cotton was now asleep and Lacey sat with her back to them, watching the cameras. Coral was sleeping on her back besides Lacey. Felix could see that she was moving on her side - she was moving her back. The realization made him squeeze his hands - and he realized that function had fully returned!
The cameras - here was some sort of movement by the horn - two people walking from the City towards the horn. Lacey glanced over as she heard Sassinak.
"Hello, Felix." She greeted. "Changing of the guard, hm?" She smiled at them. She may have been pretty once, but her sliced, crudely stitched face ruined the effect. It was a nightmare to see, now. "I'll be watching the cameras." She gestured to the screens. "It looks like the careers are moving. They're not by us any more. We can go get something to eat."
Felix's stomach was rumbling. They had fallen asleep without dinner. "I hope you two like fruit. We have mangoes, banannas and some green, sweet fruit."

”Bad move, Felix.”
One problem, then the other. Archer, axeman, Coral. He took one long stride, shifting grips and bringing his sword up over his head and down like some gruesome, straight axe as he adopted the half-sword stance. He brings that sword down across Sassinak’s bow arm, somewhere between wrist and elbow.
He didn’t stop there, bringing the sword straight down through flesh, bone, and air. He spun, a graceful artist with his chosen medium of pain and steel. Still in the half-swording the langswert, he takes half a step and lashes with the tip of the sword right over the boy’s axe and across his eyes.
The maneuver was devastating and vicious in both strike and purpose… but it left Brass open.
”You chose poorly,” he shouted. Whether it was at Felix or Coral, he didn’t specify. Felix woke up with a start when Sassinak shook him gently. The dream, the memory, was so graphic that he thought he was living it all over again. He didn’t know which part haunted him most; Sassinak’s arm, his eyes, or Brass’ cold voice after he handicapped them. He breathed out shakily and nodded at Sassinak, smiling. He looked over at Lacey and nodded when she shared the knowledge of the Careers’ movements. This hideaway seemed to have many uses, but the fact that food and water went bad was a huge drawback. It meant they had to go out into the open to get food. Food. He looked at Sassinak before turning back to Lacey. “Food sounds good but...” He looked at Coral, “I don’t want to leave her.” He said. I wasn’t- Okay, it was. He didn’t trust Lacey and Cotton, despite their seeming readiness to help them, and he didn’t want to leave Coral here, defenceless in her slumber.

"We can take her with us." She suggested quietly. "We still have some time to sleep, its probably my turn to take watch any way."
Sassinak shifted into a standing position, glancing out at the monitor. "Are any of those things out there?"
Cotton stepped out of the Watch Tower, walking towards the river. He crouched down and glanced up and down the river, frowning. He walked over to a small rock and reached down beneath it, pulling out a small bag of fruit. Cotton glanced about the area, very paranoid. A tree rustled above his head and he crouched towards the ground, frowning. Sassinak peeked after him, turning towards Felix.
"We probably need to figure out whats around here to eat. I don't want to have to rely on Lacey and Cotton..."
"You can take the first foraging in the morning." Lacey suggested. "Cotton's getting the fruit now if you want to join him."

Felix nodded and gently shook Coral. “Coral?” He murmured quietly, one hand resting on her shoulder and the other over the hand clenched around her chakram. He trusted Coral with his life, but he didn’t want her to act out in shock and hurt him, Sassinak or Lacey. “Are you feeling better? We’re going to look for some food...” He said quietly, giving her another gentle shake to make sure she was awake.
After this Felix stood up next to Sassinak, grunting a little as he moved his bad leg, sore from having been dormant for a few hours. He adjusted the brace so it was back in the most comfortable and beneficial position before he nodded.
“We’ve relied on other people too much,” Felix stated, thinking about Jan, Ember and the others. What were they doing? Did they all escape? Their faces hadn’t been shown, no cannons had stirred him. It was a good feeling, to know they were all okay. He hoped they had made to the safety of the Factory. He wanted to find them again, sometime. But maybe they wouldn’t be on the friendly terms at their next meeting that they had on the first meeting.
“If the coast is clear of arrow wielding small things, I wouldn’t mind venturing out for something to eat.” He said to Lacey with a small smile and a nod. “If we’re going to be spending time together, we’ll pull our weight. No more freeloading.” He picked up his crutches and leant on them for support.
“When we get back,” Felix looked back at Sassinak, “We’ll do a routine check-up of our Brass-inflicted wounds.” He let out a small sigh. It was obvious he resented Brass an extreme amount for what he had done, and that he was upset that they hadn’t been able to repay the debt the night before.
Whoever gets to Brass, he hopes they make him suffer.

"Sounds good." Lacey replied easily. "Cotton!" She raised her voice to carry outside. "Help guide them to the river?"
Cotton stood by the door, waiting for Felix and his friends to emerge. Coral stretched and yawned sleepily. At noticing her automatic movement, she smiled.
"I guess that paralysis was temporary!" She exclaimed happily. "Felix, you're alright?" She grasped Felix's hands, turning them palms up to inspect them.
"I'm glad that it was temporary." Sassinak smiled. "I'd like to go outside and have something to drink. When daylight comes, we can look around. I'm sure the river provides a lot."
"The river has a lot of animals." Lacey confirmed. "Just look out for the smalls and the panthers."

Felix genuinely grinned when Coral exclaimed that she felt fine, and he nodded in agreement when Sassinak shared her happiness that the paralysis was only temporary. He turned towards Cotton, and then back to Lacey.
“Panthers?” Felix said as he grabbed his pack from the ground. He removed the camouflage kit and the baseball bat, leaving them both on the ground. He kept the upturned axe inside and slung his bow and quiver across his back. He then collected his crutches again and nodded. “We’ll stay alert. Thank you.”
His thanks were genuine. Lacey and Cotton were treating them with kindness that he hadn’t expected from other tributes when he was called at the reaping. With a fond smile, Felix wondered how much he had actually changed. Yes, he wanted Brass to die a terrible death, but he was also the same guy who cared too much.
With a nod to Sassinak and Coral, he spoke again, “You two go before me. But stay close.” He might care, but he was still unsure about Lacey and her friend, Cotton. He pushed forward and moved behind Sassinak and Coral.

"Yes, we found the body of one when we moved in." Lacey revealed. "They come pit mostly at night. Be careful." She imparted as Felix and his friends depart.
Coral and Sassinak exited the two room safe house, each with their weapon of choice. Coral hurried on ahead to the river, squatting to study the river. "The water level is going down." She indicated the bank of the river which showed the water level had fallen a foot. The rover was now five feet deep, slow moving and trickling over large grey rocks covered with green moss.
Coral took a minute to wash her face and hands, finding the water to be cold and invigorating. She took out her two empty jars of water, filling them to the brim and placing it back in her pack.
"Should we risk a fire?" She asked Sassinak and Felix. "We need to boil the water before we can drink it." Cotton moved alongside Coral, handing her a mango. He offered the same fruit apiece to Sassinak and Felix. He reached inside the bag blindly and pulled out one for himself, beginning to eat it as he sat on a rock by the river bank.
"Careers are gone." Cotton reminded. "Today was the first time we saw the little ones. We normally boil our water at this time, most are sleeping."
"Theres Ember's group," Sassinak thought aloud. "- and Galen and Savannah. Have you seen them?" "No." Cotton replied. "But we think they are there." He raised a finger to the tall, black building rising to the north. "In the man - made tower. Has to be water there, too."

At the river, Felix made sure he checked the area before he sat down and got the closest thing to comfortable. Lacey’s warning about the panther made him a little nervous, and he didn’t want to get jumped by anything and be killed. That wasn’t the way he intended on going out, mauled to death by an overgrown kitty cat. Felix Grayling was going to show the nation of Panem that even when the odds aren’t stacked in your favour, you can make an impact. Three of the five who had been members of the Career pack were dead; once again they didn’t have the easy time that they had always had in the early renditions of the Games. Conrad had made an impact, Rory and her cluster of an alliance made another. Felix knew the chances of he or Sassinak winning were ridiculously slight, but he wanted to make an impact just as the tributes before him had done. He looked at Cotton and thanked him, taking the mango and biting into it. The sweet taste reminded Felix of home, just like every relatively nice tasting food in this Arena. Nostalgia was a feeling that had gnawed its way into his stomach, and it wouldn’t go away. It was like an illness; he forgot about it sometimes because it had just become normal now. With a glance at Sassinak, he nodded. “Be quick,” He turned to look into the wilderness. He would watch out for trouble. Felix Grayling rolled 6 dice to "Perception" 6,6,9,1,8,2(2successes)

Sassinak gathered some fire wood in the form of twigs and some dried brush that was about the river. "Not a lot of wood here." She noted. "These jungle trees don't seem to be easy to harvest."It took several minutes for Sassinak to coax a fire. Without matches, she was forced to create a bow with a torn piece of her sleeve and a twig. After about twenty minutes a small flame smoldered. Cotton loaned his cook pot and the 20 ounces of water was boiled and returned to the glass jars. Coral placed them in a shallow bank of the river to cool. "When you're ready, come back inside." Cotton asked. "We're going to spread out the pack we recovered from the career pack. You can choose what you want from it."When Felix and his friends return to the Watch Tower, they find that Cotton is spreading out items from the pack on the floor. Felix watched out while Coral and Sassinak worked on making water drinkable. He was glad that Sassinak had managed to start a fire, and once the water had cooled he stood and followed his alliance partners back to the base of operations that they had been invited to. He was met with Cotton unloading a pack that must have been the one that had been recovered from the Careers. He felt a little odd; he was wearing Glory and Victoria’s armor, and now he was going to be taking their stuff. It felt wrong. But he picked up the utility knife, three of the six iodine tablets and half of anything that had more than one of it. He put the other half of such items to the side for Lacey and Cotton. The rest of it, Felix told Cotton to take the things that they needed, and he would take what remained. He wanted the fishing kit, though. - Utility Knife
- 3 Iodine tablets
- 1 plastic box with 6 fire matches
- 1 Emergency candle
- 1 blanket
- 3 Turkey and Cheese Sandwiches
- 3 Personal-size Apple Turnovers
- 2 Cans of Chicken and Rice Soup
- One EMPTY Gallon Container
- Personal Fishing Kit
- Medical Kit 3
Everything else, Felix has left to Cotton. What he and Lacey do not take of the Paracord, +3 Knife, Tent, One Gallon Container Half-Full With Water and Med Kit 2, Felix will take for his alliance.

This leaves one turkey and cheese sandwich, one can of chicken and rice soup, the half full gallon container and the tent for Felix to claim for his alliance. Cotton packs his alliances' share of food into his pack. Lacey secures the +3 knife on her belt and packs the rest of her new gear into her pack. Taking the empty container, she sets it by the door. "I'll work on boiling water tomorrow." She shares with Cotton. "We have about five hours until sun rise. I'll take the next watch." Cotton beds down against the wall, using the new blanket as a pillow. Coral asks Felix and Sassinak if she can take the next watch so that they can rest. ... The morning finds sunlight streaming in through the skylight. When Felix opens his eyes, his helmet reports that Cotton is staring up through the skylight - at a young female tribute. As no one had programmed her name in, he had to assume it was Galen or Savannah. Lacey is asleep on one side of the room, Sassinak is asleep beside Felix. "Good morning." Cotton said quietly to Felix. "We have a visitor. I think she's going for the river- yes, there she goes. Walked right past the skylight. Its amazing how well this place is camouflaged.""Its Savannah." Coral whispered, gripping her chakram. "She has no idea that we're here." Her look to Felix is loaded with curiosity.

Felix listened to what the others had to say. Savannah was outside, alone it seemed. She didn’t know they were there...
What would Felix Grayling do? He’d ignore it. He’d let her go about her business; she needs to survive too.
What Felix Grayling does, isn’t what Hunger Games Felix does. It shouldn’t be anyway.
“Make sure she’s alone first,” Felix says slowly, quietly, “And then we can go and make the odds a little more in our favour...”
It was a weird feeling, and he hated himself as he said it. But if Felix didn’t start playing the Games, he was going to lose them very fast. Savannah was an obstacle between him or Sassinak going him. It was something he needed to do.

The ruined city was alive with exotic noises that tributes from districts four and seven had never heard before. Birds colored in jewel tones flew overhead, making noises that sounded almost like language. The river appeared to be babbling louder than usual. Coral led the way towards the river, Sassinak close on her heels. The girls crouched behind a large cluster of stone as they observed the river bank.
Felix's helmet described the scene before him in his ear, quietly enough that Savannah continued her business. The girl crouched beside the river bank filling two water skins. Her tribute shirt was torn and bloodied across the shoulders. Large gaps were visible in the fabric, revealing inflamed pink patches of skin on both shoulders. Her demeanor was quiet and quick. You see a staff slung to her pack and a sword sheathed at her hip. Savannah straightened, turning to head away from the Hidden City and towards the large building that shot into the sky.
Coral was also looking that way, scanning the trees for movement. Sassinak crouched behind the pillar, bow in hand. She whispered,
"We should make it quick." She raised her bow, giving Felix an inquisitive glance.

Felix wondered how the Capitol managed to mimic these scenes when there was nothing like it around their huge, industrialised city. He had seen it, on the train; all of the tall buildings, the flashing lights, the people in ridiculous clothing. He hated it, and in a way he preferred the Arena. Although they were there to kill each other, the surroundings were still eerily beautiful. The sounds of the animals reverberating off rocks and water and tree made things seem even more realistic.
He focused on Savannah, and when she started to move, he pulled his bow from his back and an arrow from the sheath. He turned to Sassinak from his position behind the pillar and nodded, “Right. Don’t let her get far. She has two water skins, means she’s with someone. I don’t want to be ambushed.” Felix whispered back to his district partner before glancing at Coral.
“Both of you are better than me from afar. If you can hit something, do it now.”

A red slice appeared across Savannah's left shoulder. She jerked as an arrow entered her left shoulder, implanting.
Coral rolled 10 dice to "Chakram to Savannah " 6,9,3,8,3,1,8,5,7,9 (4 successes)
Sassinak rolled 12 dice to "Shooting Savannah" 6,3,5,9,5,7,5,4,6,6,8,6 (2 successes)
Savannah stumbled and hit the ruined city on her hands and knees. She turned around and glanced behind her, panicking. Savannah somersaulted forward, briefly vanishing behind a rock pillar. Coral darted forward, pausing behind the same rock pillar. Savannah moved forward, passing Coral and streaking further through the trees. The three young women were moving very quickly. Felix would have to hurry to catch up.
"Be careful." Coral insisted as she began to briskly walk forward. She checked each tree that she approached, while Sassinak's approach was faster and likely less effective.
"She's running for the tower!" Sassinak's voice came from up ahead.
