Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy with the Capitol Good Looks Jan helped Jaspar push the barricade the rest of the way against the door, looking up the stairs after Felix and Boomer. He just hoped there was a way out up there. The last thing they needed was to be trapped in here. While he didn't attribute an overabundance of intellect to Glory, the rest of the Careers didn't strike him as stupid. In fact, Brass seemed to be nearly his match in the 'thinking outside of the box' department. The dark look Ember gives him as he's gathering bags and supplies to take up the stairs, is shared with her. He knew what it meant, and he agreed. These were not his people. These were not their people, and put to a choice, he'd choose Ember, Isolde, and Jaspar over them. No contest. He carefully steps over the tripwire, patting his Alliance-partner's shoulder. "I know." None of the usual pretty embellishments. Nothing that they could really say. This was a mess and a half, and if they could get out of it without losing each other, that would be fine with him. One thing they had going for them was that the Careers technically weren't after them, and they technically were still bound by the '24 Hour' arrangement. Assuming, of course, they could be trusted to keep their word. "I know. We'll play this by ear." 2012-12-09 02:57:19 Jan Colton rolled 6 dice to "Moving the Lathe" 4,4,1,10,8,6,3 (2 successes)

Nimbly hopping over the tripwire, Lily joined the group upstairs where she could effectively hurl her knives down at the ground floor and whatever Career was stupid enough to enter. There seemed to be some time to spare waiting on the apparently inevitable attack, and Lily had nothing better to do while she waited so... Lily Zelle rolled 8 dice to "Lockpicking" 8,3,8,7,4,9,3,2 (3 successes) Lily Zelle rolled 8 dice to "Lockpicking" 4,10,1,10,10,5,3,10,5,1,9,3 (5 successes) After a couple of minutes, Lily thought she heard a click and hesitantly tried to open the door labeled Security.

Upstairs, the archers moved to take positions facing the stairs, bows at the ready. There were no windows here in the hall. There were only locked doors with the signs that Lily had found. As Lily unlocked the door labelled security, she opened the door to find an average sized room with two television screens. One showed the careers watching the factory down below at the gate. The other showed the opposite gate, which was unmanned. There was one lone amber colored window in the room.
More importantly, there were two small metal keys hanging beside the televisions.
"Look at this window," Isolde declared, confused. She rapped on the amber colored window with a fist. Little effect. Isolde removed her t shirt, standing in only her silk undershirt. Wrapping her hand in her shirt, she cracked her fist against the window. It merely vibrated slightly.
Isolde donned the shirt as Jasper moved beside the window, running his hand along it. "Locks." He found, unlatching, "-they lift up. Look how thick they are..."
The windows were indeed a good inch thick of amber colored material. Jasper took up his bow at the half raised window. Isolde took up position across from him, looking down.
"No one else is climbing over." She reported.
To those inside the factory, they could only see the door that had not been blocked or locked. Victria's shadow moved to the windows, pauding for a minute. The door handle turned easily. Once she had found an entrance, the shadow moved on, slowly wrapping its way around the porch. Isolde and Jasper were unable to get an arrow fixed on her, for she stayed under the overhang of the roof. To the careers, Victoria calmly made an assessment of the factory entrances, even looking underneath the porch.
Victoria suddenly sprinted from the factory in a zig zag motion. Jasper's arrow was at his cheek; but he paused. She wasn't attacking.
"She's leaving." Jasper reported.
"We need to talk." Victoria stated as she descended from the fence and disembarked easily. She gestured for the others to walk away from the factory, leading them out of arrow range. "Its not just Coral, five and sevens in the factory any longer. I spotted Isolde and someone with Ember's build. Nine and twelve have joined the party."
"Interesting. "Eclypse mused. "I haven't heard any cannons."
"No screams or pleads for mercy." Victoria reported matter of factly. "There may be an alliance forming."
"So we cut them down." Bogart declared aggressively. "Why are we still talking about this?"
"Because we need to." Victoria said simply. Not angrily, nor aggressive or defensive. Calm. "Take a look at that factory."
Bogart and the others turned as Victoria continued. "Only two doors in and four windows on each level. The windows are odd, thick amber that won't shatter easily. They've boarded over two at the lower level. One of the doors is blocked. Which means we can only enter from one door."
"At least we can enter." Glory reasoned.
"Yes, we can. To find five fully functional tributes who have had time to set up defenses. That factory is defensible and they've left us only one way in."
"You don't want to go in." Glory sounded surprised. "You're not afraid of them." Glory wasn't goading Victoria, her voice was inquisitive.
"No. Yet I have another idea. Lets go back to the horn. Bogart, could you stay here and keep an eye on them? Get us if there's movement."
Victoria walked beside Glory, who was leading Brass. The muscled career began to talk.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember followed Jan and the others up. She was silent, watching, listening. And though, she kept that signature smirk of hers, Ember looked focused. Determined. Ready for whatever hell was about to rain down on them. At least Jan knew what was in her heart. She knew that with their backs to the wall, it would be him she'd have to trust. They weren't friends but she would die with him, by him, or for him. And that was enough for Ember. A mission; a goal... something to believe in. Even if it was just this; the slaughter. Ember put the bags down in the room with the monitors and took out a medkit, walking over to Felix. “Broody, it's Ember... I'm going to check the bandages on your leg. Walk me through it, okay? I kinda know what I'm doing. I mean, I know enough to know that clean bandages mean low chances of infection.”Ember worked on Felix's leg while Isolde and Jasper checked the windows. When she was done, she looked up to see Jasper aiming his bow at something outside. “****,” Ember swore when she was told Victoria was leaving. She was smarter than she looked. “If Victoria is leaving then she's either coming back in force or they're going after easier prey.” Ember glanced at Jan, there was something else in her eyes. Concern. There was another possibility. And Victoria saw one of them. Ember had fallen behind. It had taken them a bit to dig that tunnel under. The careers could know they were here. “I'm going back downstairs. If the careers are coming back in force that means we have time to truly rig this place up.” Ember said. She looked at Boomer and then Jan. “Boom-Boom, Charming... I need a word.” She glanced at Sassinak. “I could heal her a bit too before we head back down.” Ember Clay rolled 7 dice to "redressing the bandages on Felix's leg" 6,9,8,8,4,9,4 (4 successes) Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

"No. She's not." In the same moment Ember cursed. If Victoria were leaving, she was going back to The Horn. Which meant she was going to be talking to the Careers. IT meant, likely, that they'd figured out the plan.
It also meant they were likely going to turn their fortifications against them.
"We need to work fast." He answered Ember, even as he handed Coral one of his full waterskins. "Make sure Sassy and Felix get a bit of that. Same with Little-Bit. We need anyone functional hydrated. Izzy? Jazz? Keep an eye on those windows. I want to know if they blink the wrong way."
With the water they had, he could spare one waterskin for now. "On my way, Sunshine." They needed to talk. They really did. They needed to win this thing, or at the very least, they needed to show why they were the group to watch and support this year. Not the Careers.
With that, Jan followed Ember out the door. "What're you thinkin', Sunshine?"

As the Security Room's door swung open, Lily moved inside. Her inquiring eyes spotted the two keys fairly fast and pocketed them. Interesting... Gate Keys, Room keys or something else perhaps? The next thing to attract her attention was the monitors. She certainly recognized Brass as another female Career joined the group. "Hey, we got Career Cam in here." Lily said out loud for the benefits of the others, leaving the room so others could enter. Intelligence, Medicine and Plant Research left to open... might as well tackle them in that order. Lily will try the two metal keys first, if only to rule out a possibility for what they open.

Jasper looked over towards Felix, shaking his head at Ember. "Ember, I'll help Felix. You get to thinkin' things up." Jasper looked to Isolde. "Are you all right with standing guard?""Yes." Isolde drew a bead on Bogart, frowning when she realized that Victoria had led him ten yards from the fence. He stood there, staring at the factory. His sword was sheathed and his arms were crossed. Isolde relaxed her arm; conserving her strength. She moved her head slightly, glancing around Bogart. She could see the careers heading back to the horn. She was alarmed to see that Glory stood in front of Brass, leading him. Victoria walked a step behind Glory, speaking to both Glory and Brass. Eclypse walked beside Brass, his weapons sheathed and Eclypse was visibly looking around; specifically towards the Jungle and Ruined city. "They're not complacent." Isolde realized. "Eclypse's keeping an eye on the Jungle and the city. Glory and Victoria have Brass between them. Bogart's guarding us. They're keeping alert.""We match them." Jasper said, kneeling next to Felix. He rifled through the bag, taking out a kit partially used on Jan. "Eclypse, Glory, Brass, Bogart and Victoria equals Coral, Ember, Jan, you and I. We also have Felix's ears and insight and Sass' good hand." He seemed to be kind as he gingerly checked Felix's leg. "Felix, I'm going to check your leg and change the bandages. We need to keep it clean."He glanced over to Boomer before concentrating again. "You said something about a crutch. Whats that you got, there?" The pack seemed to have a pipe sticking out of it. "This place has gear, doesn't it?"Coral knelled next to Felix. She took Felix's hand and placed a water skin into it. "Drink." She advised. As the fives and sevens had been fighting and running without a drink of water for going on seven hours, the water was inviting. Coral moved beside Jasper, assisting him in his efforts with Felix's leg. "You have a real medical kit." She smiled. "We had to work with what we had. Can I help you, Jasper? I'm a bit fond of the guy." She reaches over and squeezes Felix's arm. "Took a beating and he's still ticking. Last girl that was blinded just sat down and waited to die. Which isn't going to happen here, Felix. You're not alone.""No, he's not." Sassinak affirmed, standing at the top of the stairs. She was watching the lower door intently. "We have good mentors. They faced adversity as well. I'm not worried. They'll be sending us things - and I remember my promise, Coral. You get first pick." Jasper rolled 8 dice to "Medicine - stitching sutures & changing bandages, +1 for Coral's aid" 3,4,10,2,9,4,4,10,3,10,4 (4 successes) Sassinak stood at the top of the stairs, +3 chakram in hand. "So the careers have left..." She frowned. "But they left Bogart to watch us. We could probably reach him before he could reach the horn, right?" "He's out of range." Isolde shared. " I'd have to make it to the fence - maybe climb it somehow with my bow and make the shot. He'd see me coming and could be running for the horn. Plus..." She glanced towards Jasper; but stopped short of mentioning the non aggression pact.

As Lily opened 'Intelligence', she noted that the room was the exact same size as security. Instead of television screens, this room held three file folders with manila envelopes filled with information packets. Each drawer had a heading - Native Plant life
- Acidic Rain
- Observation Towers
- Natural Resources
- Climate changes
- Special applications for Watch tower
Within the drawer were thick information packets, some at least sixty pages in length. It was clear the information hear was gleaned through research and ones' own ingenuity.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” In a way, Felix, Sassinak, and Coral were like Ember, Jan, Jasper, and Isolde. The only difference is that her people were realist. Broody and Co. still believed that hope and love conquered all. How would they deal with only it being the three of them left. Could they kill each other? Every time, Ember looked into Jan's eyes, she got the answer to that question. Jan could kill her. “You're in good hands with Grumpy, Broody. He'll take good care of you.” Ember said, nodding to her district partner. She looked at Isolde and smiled. Warm, genuine. A bit of Ember's former-self peeking through. “You got this Sweetpea. And Boomer” She mumbled her thanks to the others, drank deeply from her own waterskin, and walked out. As Ember passed by Sassinak she spoke, softly to her. “Have Mermaid switch with you at some point and get yourself healed up by Grumpy. That arm of yours could use fresh cleaning...” The nicest Ember had ever been was to these eight here. At least in the last six years. Didn't need friends. All she had was training and the hunt... And the occasionally young man brave enough to want to spend some time with her. Usually only for a night. She didn't need them any longer than that. She looked down the hall at Lily. “Hey, Little Bit, good work on the doors,” she told the little girl. “You get the rest of them open, I might have a better knife than the one I gave ya.” She pulled out both of her knives and chuckled before she put them back into their sheaths. “In fact, I'm certain I do. Once those doors are open, take the extra knife for one of the duffel bags. Boom-Boom, why don't ya help her out with whatever she might need. When she's gotten all of the doors open, come downstairs.” Lily was the killer. Ember had been hunting most of her life. She knew the difference between prey and predator. And although small, Lily was not prey. Boomer... Boomer was prey. But he wasn't stupid. And that made him useful. “Yea, I wanna talk, Charmin'” Ember said, walking down the stairs. Her voice carried a bit so she spoke softly. “Need an honest assessment of our options.” Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

It was hell not knowing what was going on. Felix felt utterly useless as he eventually clambered up to the second floor of the factory and was led into a room. He wished he could see, so very badly. He wished it so strongly that tears came to his eyes, and these ones were certainly not tears of pain. Again he felt weak, and he expecting Alder’s voice to come through. He wanted Alder’s voice to come back.
Nothing.
Felix concealed his sob with a painful cough as he was placed on the ground again. He couldn’t tell what was worse; not being able to see or not being able to walk. Regardless, both of those misfortunes had been bestowed on him by the ever considerate Brass. Rage boiled in Felix’s blood as he remembered the flash of silver that had been the last thing he ever saw. And Sassinak’s arm falling to the ground. He hated Brass for making that the last image his eyes would ever take in. It wasn’t the best memory of his district partner at all, and the fact that the last thing he had seen was a weapon pertaining to the person he hated more than anyone else he’d ever met certainly made Felix feel ever more anguished.
He could still feel the tension in the air, however, when everyone was relatively quiet and he could hear bowstrings being pulled back. The silence was unbearable; Felix had no idea what was happening, but then suddenly there were voices and he listened for what had happened. As the information was relayed that Victoria had retreated, Felix let out a sigh of half-relief and half-despair.
“Good thing is we get more time to plan, and like Ember said, to set up traps downstairs and anywhere we can. Bad thing is we know they’re gunna be doing the same.” Felix shrugged, rested his head back against the wall and clutched onto his leg and pain seared through it when he tried to bend his knee.
“Broody, it's Ember... I'm going to check the bandages on your leg. Walk me through it, okay? I kinda know what I'm doing. I mean, I know enough to know that clean bandages mean low chances of infection.”
“Your nicknames for everyone, they’re fascinating. You gotta explain ‘em to me sometime.” Felix chuckled, before sucking air through his teeth as the bandages were removed. “Okay, it needs to be washed out and- AH!” Felix cried out in pain as Ember worked on his leg. Changing the bandages on the open wound seemed to hurt even more than the infliction of the wound itself... Or so it seemed at that moment.
As Ember stepped away and Jasper took over, Felix nodded. “Thanks, Ember.” He said, smiling, before biting his lip as Jasper took over the procedure. As real bandages were applied, Felix could feel the difference. In fact, he felt stronger as Jasper finished fixing him up. “Thank you. Really, thank you.”
"You have a real medical kit." She smiled. "We had to work with what we had. Can I help you, Jasper? I'm a bit fond of the guy."
When he felt Coral’s hand on his shoulder, Felix felt a reassuring wave wash over his body, and soon his leg felt as good as it could, considering the damage it had been dealt. “You did a great job with what we had, Coral. Really.” He smiled at her.
"Took a beating and he's still ticking. Last girl that was blinded just sat down and waited to die. Which isn't going to happen here, Felix. You're not alone."
“Dying sounds like a gift right now, but I plan to delay that as long as possible.” If he could use his eyes, he would have given Coral a meaningful look. She had to know, right? That Felix was doing all of this for Sassinak, to keep her safe, to keep her alive. And he hoped Coral would do everything she could to keep his district partner safe for as long as she could. Because he felt a connection with Coral, they seemed to get along well, and she was extremely caring.
Conrad was right; Career was just a title that the districts placed One, Two and Four under, but Coral was the best choice of alliance mate he had made. Lily and Boomer had been fiercely loyal, and were constantly proving their value to the team, but it was Coral that had carried him in, Coral that had treated him and Sassinak, Coral that had risked her own life to save theirs. He was eternally grateful to her.
"No, he's not...We have good mentors. They faced adversity as well. I'm not worried. They'll be sending us things - and I remember my promise, Coral. You get first pick."
“I believe in Rory, Conrad, Tank and Rowan. They’ll do everything they can to keep us in the running, I know it.” Felix nodded, certain of every word he was saying, “They won’t ever give up on us.”
"So the careers have left...But they left Bogart to watch us. We could probably reach him before he could reach the horn, right?"
"He's out of range... I'd have to make it to the fence - maybe climb it somehow with my bow and make the shot. He'd see me coming and could be running for the horn. Plus..."
Felix ignored Isolde’s trailing off of words. A strange sensation came over him when Isolde spoke about taking out Bogart. “He could be useful. Seven and Eleven were close last Games, we could use that to our advantage. Bogart could be swayed onto our side, especially if Jasmine’s been getting in touch with him. I doubt she likes his choice of alliance...” He knew that the sympathy for Bogart stemmed from Rory’s inclination to form an alliance between Felix and Sassinak with the elevens. “I don’t think he should die. I know he shouldn’t. He’s mislead, that’s all...”

Lily looked through each of the packets with interest, looking for anything that would aid them against the Careers in the near future before stuffing them all into her backpack. Perhaps this little discovery should remain an ace in the hole for the moment... Walking out of the Intelligence Room, she headed for the locked door marked Medicine. Lily looked up as Ember called to her, and Lily's eyes widened as the offer of the better knife was made in exchange for opening all the doors. Take it straight from the duffel bag? Nice... it would give her an excuse to check out the gear Ember's gang had brought with them at least. Lily didn't really need Boomer's help, but she hadn't bonded that much with her District mate yet, although she was fairly sure he wouldn't abandon her yet. "Any good with doors Boom-Boom?" Lily grinned in a good natured manner, borrowing Ember's nickname for him as she picked the next lock on the Medicine door. As the light was starting to dim outside, she pulled the headlamp from her backpack and donned it, ready to flick the switch when it got too dark. "Shame I don't have anything to collect some of that acid rain in." Lily commented out loud. "Could come in handy when the Careers attack next." Again, Lily will try the two keys first.
Lily Zelle rolled 8 dice to "Lockpicking" 9,7,5,4,6,3,4,8 (2 successes) Lily Zelle rolled 8 dice to "Lockpicking" 4,9,1,4,9,6,10,10,4,8 (5 successes)
"Hah, I am the Master of Locks." Lily quipped triumphantly as a small click came from the tumbler to signal her success.

"You want my honest opinion?"
They were alone, so far as he could tell. Alone and able to speak plainly. "When we had them bottlenecked and they didn't know it? We were fine. Now? Now they know, and as you said: They know we're in here. There haven't been any cannons, which means they know that we're either 'talking', or we're lulling them into a false sense of security."
Jan looked over his shoulder, leaning back against the wall. "Regardless? The Career Alliance is regrouping, and while we're all ingenius as sin? They'd been training for this their whole lives.
"And we have Team Idealist in there..." Jan pinched the bridge of his nose, then looked at Ember. "I'm not Brass' biggest fan and I hope he bleeds out real slow, but that's not gonna happen, and he has a serious obsession with killing Felix and Sassy....
"...I think we both agree we don't want to see either of their heads on his belt. I certainly don't want my head on his belt. For one? My Ma and Pa don't need that. Not after last year.
"We need a plan, and a better plan than this."

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember moved quietly over to one of the windows. She made sure that she stayed low enough that Bogart couldn't see her approach one of the windows. She watched him as Jan spoke, still keeping Bogart's line of sight. So long as she stayed low it should be okay. Jan was right. He was right about everything. And Ember couldn't help but find herself nodding at his statements. Broody was upstairs making Bogey's case, trying to keep everyone from seeing him for what he was, a coward. And before it was done, Ember was going to ask him why he thought it was okay to drag an unarmed tribute kicking and pleading to be let go to his death. If it had been Ember she would have told Brass to go after his own kill. There had been no honor it the way Kingston had died. And whether Felix wanted to admit it or not, Bogey had a direct hand in his death. He had to go. Ember smiled, devilishly. She might have a plan. Maybe. “The way I see it, we can play this one of four ways.
“Option One: Go up there and start killing everyone. Not much else to that plan. You, me, Isolde, or Jasper might die before we take them all out. Hell, maybe even only one of will walk out alive but at least the Careers will think we're sticking to the deal...
“I didn't say they were all good options. I just said that we had three of them to choose from.
“Option Two: We stage a trap for the Careers. We get Broody, Butterfly, Mermaid, and Boom-Boom to start hootin' and howlerin' and then we come out our weapons bloody. We tell Bogey to get the others because we thought Champ would want to finish off Broody and co. Then when they come in we seal up the exits, surround 'em on all sides, and slaughter 'em. It'll take you selling the face-to-face with Bogey.
“Option Three: We kill Bogey as quietly as we can before the Careers regroup. You, me, Grumpy, Sweetpea, and Little Bit should be enough to take the big man down without much loss to us. Once the careers come back, they'll have to come and play. We take them out once they're inside.
“Or Option Four: We continue to do what we're doing. If we do that we need to rig the back gate, or mini-tunnel and each of these windows. And not just with things that will slow them down, but stuff that'll HURT 'em.” Ember Clay rolled 6 dice to "staying out of Bogart's line of sight" 9,10,9,8,3,8,5 (5 successes) Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "watching Bogart" 7,1,8,10,3,2,10,5,4,7 (3 successes) Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

"In another life? I would totally marry you." Jan grinned, and it certainly wasn't a 'nice' smile. Pretty, but certainly not 'nice'.
"Option 2 and Option 3 are good by me. Option 1 only if it looks like we're screwed. I like Felix, but I'm not dying for him, and I don't want Brass taking his head. Even thinking about makes me want to start slitting throats."
Like nothing else save maybe Jace laying there in Felix's, half-dead, blind, and helpless, and knowing that someone wanted him dead.
"The 'Nice' Colton Twin died last year, Sunshine. I'm practical, and there's no room for 'nice' or 'idealistic' in being practical--especially in a place like this."
There's a look toward the door. "I think you and I both agree that Bogart needs to die. He made his choices, and his choice was to offer Kingston's life to that psychopath like he was offering a sacrifice to a Lesser God.
"Kingston wasn't one of ours' but he deserved better than to die like that.
Bogart dies. This is something I will not budge on, regardless of how much Felix seems to think he's redeemable. He didn't see what we saw."

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” For six years, Ember had thought about nothing but the Games. Not winning. Just never being forgotten. There wasn't any time to be a kid. No time for love. No time for future. All that matter was this moment. Her whole life had lead up to the Games. It wasn't like she hadn't thought about what 19 could hold in store for her. The potential for finding happiness. Someone to spend her days with. Start a family, raise them to understand that life was fleeting, so they should be aware and appreciate the beauty of the now. Certainly, that's what Cinder wanted for her. A husband, children, happiness. There was only just one problem. That wasn't Ember. “I bet you say that to all of the girls that'll kill in cold blood for ya.” She grinned. Jan and Ember. No, it was probably better for the world that at best only one of them was making it out alive. If only to save everyone for the horde of little hellions they would unleash. “My sis would have approved of the match... Nonetheless, maybe I'll catch you around in the next life, Charmin'. We'll take the world by storm.” She winked and then glanced between Bogart and Jan. Her gaze settling on Jan again. “There's no room for idealism in the arena. People say the same 'bout love. But lookit Sweetpea. Lookit us,” Ember chuckled. “In seriousness though, Bogart dies. Knife in the back or the chest it makes no difference. If you say he dies, he dies. I'll back you up on that.
“Maybe a combination of two and three then? We pretend we killed Team Friendship and tell Bogart the good news. Then we kill him and make it look like Little Bit did it before she ran toward the Jungle.
“Man, if we had something that could sound like one of them cannon blasts this would be a whole 'nother game.” Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

"Yes. Our mentors will take care of us." Sass agreed with Felix. "I expect that something will come in soon." Sassinak fell silent for a moment. "You're not thinking of trying to convince Bogart to come with us?" She asks Felix. "I don't think we're his sort. ""He's with the careers." Coral disagreed. Her voice had an edge to it. "Bogart's with the careers and he's still alive - after the Bath. To me, that means that he either has something that they need or he's sold them that he's as...career ... as they are. Plus, he's guarding us for them. That doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside." To the sighted, the darkness overtakes the factory. Any one without light gets a -2 on all actions attempted. Any lights that your characters wish to use must be turned on to negate the -2 mod. Looking outside now has a -2 mod due to darkness. Bogart can barely be seen. In a few minutes, he likely will be overtaken by darkness."Its getting dark. Jasper, can you find those candles?" Jasper located an emergency candle and lighter, lighting one and clearing a space on the security desk to place it. Isolde looked out from the window. "I can barely see Bogart now. The shadows are stretching in. There's a lot of flat ground from that fence to us... and they have that sleeping bag over the fence so that they can climb it. I'd really like to go and get that down. Bogart got pretty cut up when he tried to get over that wire." "They would see you." Jasper countered. "Theres the pact." Isolde replied. "For a few more hours." "Risking your life to get a sleeping bag." Sassinak shook her head. "I'd say leave it.""We have metal works in here, right?" Isolde proposed, still looking out of the window. "The light out there will be terrible. We could spread nails by the gates. Break up some glass to line the fence." "Not a bad idea." Coral stated slowly. She squeezed Felix's shoulder. "I'm going to go check on Lily. I'll be right back." Sassinak took a seat on the top stair, her shoes making a scuffling noise for Felix. She continued to watch the front door. "I think we should make a plan." Sassinak stated quietly. "I was really tired earlier and fell asleep... but there's still many tributes out there. As much as I hate to say it, I think we should start making a dent in that. Now... I don't know if nine and twelve are staying with us..."She looks towards Jasper and Isolde, who glance away. "...but we can use this place to hole up when we need to recover, if it rains and if we get outnumbered. We can make quick runs outside to see whose out there and if we can take them. I bet that rain hurt some people."To the sighted, she made a face. "That sounds terrible, I know. These are just kids. Yet I want us to live. Its going to be us or them and I'm betting on use. We can search this place tonight and improvise some weapons. Like that bat, Felix. We can nail in some nails so that it could cut somebody. I bet theres something to make a crutch, too.
We could have some people on guard, some people sleeping and some people searching for gear and weapons. I slept earlier, so I can take first watch."As Lily looked through native plant life she noted pictures of half a dozen ordinary plants. Two were marked with red asterisks that she thought merited a second look. One was called a 'Mimic Vine' and had two notations under it. 'Incredible ability for mimicry' and 'numerous in the jungle'.
The Carnivorous Vine was recorded as being well camouflaged to appear as an ordinary vine and had a voracious appetite. It was known to eat all medium sized animals, not excluding primates and tributes. It had a very hard surface and could only be harmed with a specific tool provided at the blood bath. This reading took several minutes and she had slipped the booklets into her pack at Coral's arrival. Would she want to know the other information? "Lily?" Coral approached the other girl, glancing at the other doors. "How did Intelligence work out?"

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy with the Capitol Good Looks
"Aren't we already?" Taking the world by storm?
Jan shook his head, still smiling. "I like that plan. Though...it's getting dark." The world had started to shift to night, and Jan frowned. If he walked out there right now, he'd need a flashlight or a flare to keep himself from getting shot with something, most likely.
And then he'd have to keep a straight face while he lied to Bogart, trying all the while to not get sick to his stomach just from being in the boy's presence. The guy was repulsive. Enough so that Jan just really, really wanted to kill him.
More than he wanted Lacey dead, honestly. Her, he could forgive. It was just a bump on the head. But laying Kingston out like a sacrifice?
Bogart needed to go.
"We should go tell them our little plan. See if they want to contribute....in some way."

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember nodded. Darkness had fallen. And now the real fun began. “Let's get down to business.” She stood and was careful as she walked back toward Jan. She flashed him the sweetest smile she could muster and walked back upstairs. She entered the security room with the others and noticed the candle was lit. “Keep the candles as far away from the window as possible,” Ember said, going into her backpack to take out the night vision goggles. “There's two or three more in one of these bags.” She looked at Jan, waiting for him to explain the plan. Ember would do it. But she'd probably end up scaring everyone. Jan could get them to listen and perhaps even agree. Ember walked over to another bag and pulled out one of the bows. “Sweetpea, I'll take watch while Jan talks about our options.” She replaced Isolde and turned on the night vision goggles, she looked around for Bogart or any movement. Ember Clay rolled 6 dice to "Keeping out of Bogey's line of sight" 7,7,10,5,1,7,9 (2 successes) Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "see what's going on outside" 9,2,6,1,3,3,7,4 (1 successes) Hit Points: 19/21 Willpower: 5/6

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy With the Capitol Good LooksIt was a smart move, letting him play the charmer. Jan knew he was good at convincing people to do things. Turning things to his way. It was what he was good at, and it was also why he was sure he was getting sponsor after sponsor. He was just the right mix of pretty, ruthless, and clever, and he could spin a yarn and a lie better than anyone he'd ever me t... ...Who wasn't from the Capitol. "The Careers are outside. They saw us come in here, which means they know that me, Sunshine, Izzy, and Jazz are all in here as well--even if they don't know why. They also know that we took a little less than half the Wealth and some of the other stuff from the scattered packs with us.
"Whatever it is they believe, it's in our power to change it. They don't know what we're doing in here, after all...
"So here's our suggestion."Jan stopped looking around at the gathered Tributes. He was being completely honest and he believed this was a good plan. Risky...but a good plan. "Coral, Sassy, Felix, and Boomer." He looks at each of them in turn. "You all start making a whole hell of a lot of noise. I want them to think that we're killing you all in here. Screaming, shouting. Begging for your lives. Knock a few things over. Call me as many horrible names as you want. I'll probably get a good laugh out of it, to be honest....
"...When it's over, you all get real quiet. A few minutes later, me and Ember are going to head down there and outside. We're going to tell Bogart that we've maimed the heck out of you, but we're saving the killing blow for Brass and the rest.
"While we're gone, you all get situated. I want you in places where you can get the drop on them. Because I'm going to tell the biggest, most elaborate lie of my life, and I"m going to get them in here.
"And when they're all in here? We're going to seal the doors....and they're all going to die."There's a long look at each of the Tributes. Only one of them would be going home, but Jan was of the opinion that they were all in agreement on this one. It wouldn't be anyone of the Career Pack. "Thoughts?" 2012-12-11 04:32:42 Jan Colton rolled 12 dice to "Oration Yo" 7,7,4,9,7,9,8,3,7,3,5,3 (3 successes)

Four parachutes drifted down towards the factory, delicately setting down on the front porch steps. One could simply open the door and walk five steps out to claim the gifts. One of the parachutes was clearly marked with district five, one with district seven, one with district nine and one with district twelve. What sort of presents could be arriving in such a timely manner?

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember smirked when Jan was done speaking. Atta boy, Charming. I was even moved...She back outside. As night had started creeping in Lily had switched her headlamp on, retreating from the unlocked Medicine door back into the Intelligence room for a quick look at the leaflets. She wasn't hurt yet, so medicine was hardly necessary for her. As someone pushed on the heavy door, Lily stuffed the six booklets into her backpack for safety. Thankfully the invader of her privacy was Coral, whose only interest seemed to be if Lily had found anything.
"Intelligence is as empty as the Career's heads." Lily smirked at her own joke. "I have got the Medicine Door open too, hopefully there's something useful in there."
It was at this point Lily wished she had an eidetic memory like that one guy in her district. The chances of being able to read the documents uninterrupted was slim to none with this many people in the building and she wasn't yet ready to give up her bounty of knowledge that she'd found, especially with the likelihood of not getting the booklets back afterwards.
"I did find a booklet on the Acid Rain." Lily pulled it from her backpack, figuring it was the least valuable of the six. "I haven't read it yet but I'll get back to you if I learn anything of use. I was thinking we might be able to lure the Careers out so they get caught in the next downpour... or at least collect some of the acid rain in case we find a use for it."

As Lily opened the Medical room, she noted two things. The first was noted with relief as the room was decked out like an infirmary. There was a cot with clean sheets and a pillow with an island with tools spread out on what was hopefully a sterile cloth. There was a scalpel, a probe, a telescoping mirror, a pen light, a syringe needle and other tools that were not in the med kit. There was only one of each.
There was a wooden drawer upon which were stacked six small vials with liquid in them. They looked like something you had seen at the Capitol associated with vaccines or antibiotics. There were three paper wrapped syringes beside the vials. There were also two sprays clearly marked 'antibiotics to prevent infection'. Six rolls of bandages - enough for twelve dressing changes - were stacked on the table.
Perhaps Lily's pleasant surprise was so acute that she noticed the bounty of medical supplies before she noted the white lab coat in the corner of the room. There was a computer screen that had been partially blocked by the lap coat; some sort of diagnostic tool. That corner of the room was dark and difficult to make out, but as Lily's head lamp cut through it, she got a shock.
The lab coat was not suspended on a hanger - that was a pale arm protruding from the sleeve. A pale arm with green, leafy vines writhed around it. The vines were moving and the 'figure' in the lab coat was stiff and moved jerkily, as though by an unseen puppeteer. Or perhaps by this vine.
The conversation in the Hall
"Thats a great idea, Lily." Coral accepted the packet, flipping through the first few pages.
"Oh no. Its saying that the acid can eat - every one, listen to this." Coral raises her voice. " "The acid rain eats through concrete, wood and all man made structures. The rain only is repelled by the special construction and windows provided by the Capitol. These structures are limited in the arena to four. The rain is preceded by this warning..." Coral began to flip through pages but paused as Jan began to speak.
"One thing..." Sassinak stated quietly. "Bogart is about forty yards from us, maybe more -"
"I want to say forty five." Isolde weighed in. "I think that I could shoot him from here if he was at forty."
"- would he hear us?" Sassinak continued.
"One way to find out." Jasper stated darkly. "I say that we should try it. It'd bring them in where we have the advantage."
"What timeline are we talking about here?" Sassinak asked. "The place is crowded with junk. It takes us time to find components and set traps."
"Not to mention it may help if we can sleep first." Coral mentioned. "Or find something to eat. We've been running on seven hours with no food. I'm not sure if there's food out there in the fenced area; but I don't want to leave to find out. Not at night."

No one agreed with him. He didn’t expect Isolde or Jasper to, and he had half a hope for Coral. But he was hurt deeply when Sassinak shot his idea down, and was the first to do so. He nodded, feeling disappointment rack his body. He had no idea how he would feel if he had to hear Bogart’s death, just considering it made him feel weak. With Brass it was a different issue; the boy was disgusting and there was nothing anyone could say that would validate his actions. But Bogart... Felix sympathised with him, and he didn’t know why.
“Right. I’m on my own.” Felix said with a shrug, “Coulda been us, Sass, if we’d taken up Brass’ offer. Or you, Coral, or Lily and Boomer. He’s been left here because they know we’ll kill him. He’s just their guard dog, and killing him won’t do anything to them. But if no one’s gonna back me up here, then at least I know I tried. And so do you, Panem.” He addressed the cameras that must have been somewhere in the room, his voice a little louder, though not loud enough to catch the attention of the boy outside, “I tried.” This time, it was directed to Rory and the other mentors. He tried.
When Isolde mentioned going outside to retrieve the sleeping bag, he agreed with Sassinak. “If you intend to go alone, don’t. But whatever they’re talking about out there has to be good. You can get it whenever your alliance has a plan.” Felix shrugged. He wasn’t going to give orders to the nines and twelves. They might be together for now, but there was a clear distinction between the two alliances.
As Coral left, Felix nodded. “Make sure she’s okay.” Lily was a vital member of ‘Team Friendship’, and Felix wanted to be sure that all of his alliance were well. There was enough injury going around.
Felix listened to Sassinak. “Yeah.” He agreed. He couldn’t see Isolde of Jasper look away, but he figured they could hear. It was the truth. “For now, the Careers are priority number one. But I like the sound of making this a base. And taking out other tributes... Well, it’s a necessity. We just won’t enjoy it like Brass does.” Felix clenched his jaw. “My leg’s feeling alright at the moment, I think as long as the bandages are regularly checked and I get some rest time, movement will be a lot easier with a crutch. I’ll need a spotter.” His hand searched for Sassinak’s in the eternal darkness that had become his world. When he eventually found it, he squeezed it softly.
“We’ll get through this, but you need rest.”
When he heard people enter, he knew that those who had left for discussion had returned. Ember spoke, and then Jan spoke up. Felix listened to the plan intently, and then when the others input their ideas, Felix spoke up.
“The plan is crazy enough that it may just work. But they ain’t stupid. Cannons need to be fired. And they’ll definitely want proof of your actions. The screams and stuff coulda been that of pain while we were fixin’ each other up, or something.” Felix said, “But I’m down for anything that will make me a little less useless, less of a liability.”
When Ember spoke up about the chutes, a smile appeared on Felix’s lips. The mentors were sending them a message. Did they approve of their plan? Or maybe their notes would be telling them to dispose of the spares. Either way, Felix was excited.

Lily's keen searching eyes picked out the medicine and gear... before alighting on the viney.. thing in the corner of the room. As she recalled the information on the research pages, she promptly pulled the door with a loud thud as her throat ran dry.
"We have a... problem." Lily's face paled.
"There's some kind of plant growth in the corner of the Medicine Room that doesn't look right... and a ton of surgical tools and medications in there we could use."
