Ember looked as though she was sleeping. Her eyes were closed, her head tilted forward with her chin resting on her chest above her folded arms, and feet were up, resting on a chair in front of her. It appeared as though she wasn't interested in or cared about this meeting. However, with Ember thing were never what they appeared to be. The steady, deep breaths let her keep time. It had been less than five minutes since they say down.
Soon District 2 would be led inside.
Then the real fun would begin.

Livia led Glory and Brass into the room. Silver and Reginald waited outside, speaking quietly among themselves. They fell silent as Lyme led Jan and Isolde into the room. Lyme paused at the door, giving the two men a long look. The vibe was cold and unfriendly as Reginald and Silver watched Lyme gesture for her tributes to enter the room and she brought up the rear.
"Interesting call." She stated neutrally, not conveying how her own tributes felt about this meeting. She looked over Ember for a beat, then studied Livia.
"You entreating us for an alliance?" Lyme asked with a quirky smile.
Glory smiled at that, as though amused. She turned and looked to Brass; seeming to suggest that he should reply. Isolde glanced from Ember to district two, her face conflicted. Jasper stood beside Ember, his arms crossed. A prominent scowl was on his face.
"So why are we here?" Livia asked the tributes, point blank. Brass and Glory knew that they had spoken about this meeting with her, but she seemed to be challenging Ember, Jasper, Jan and Isolde for an answer.

Jan Colton "Someone in this room is going to win this thing."That's Jan Colton. No nonsense. No fear. From his lips to The One's ear. Someone in this room was going to win. He was sure of that. He wasn't going to even pay attention to the mentor acting like she was important. This was between the Tributes. "Or rather: Someone in this room could win this thing. If we make the right...arrangements. You know as well as we do that the 'right arrangements' are often what keep Tributes alive through the through the Bloodbath and through the first night. So.."
"Let's make some 'arrangements'."There's a sidelong look to Ember. He might be the talker, but he was sure that they all had their ideas. "You've got the Career pack. We've got us. We have an offer. Truce through the First full day--that's the first twenty-four hours--in exchange for our help taking out as many Tributes as we can in the Cornucopia, as well as a fair portion of the Wealth once we do."Jan raised his eyebrows, mostly looking at Brass. Glory wasn't the leader. "Counter offer?"2012-11-15 00:05:24 Jan Colton rolled 8 dice to "Manipulation + Persuasion + Specialty " 7,3,7,4,9,9,5,1 (2 successes)

The sound of Lyme's voice got Ember to open her eyes. She stretched her arms above her head, yawning as if she had been really sleeping. Ember even rubbed her dark grey eyes.
Her dark hair wasn't tied up and was left to cascade down her back in dark brown ringlets. She was still wearing her tribute uniform but Ember had made some subtle alterations. The sleeves were cut off; the material used to create pockets where there once were none. She kept the pants as is but did create what appeared to be a crudely-made knife holster. Ember placed a few butter knives inside of it because she didn't feel comfortable without some kind of weight on her hip. She'd feel better once they were in the Arena. There Ember would always been armed.
She let Jan do the talking. It was what he was good at and so she'd let him run with it. In fact, she thought that he actually didn't have an idea that was half-bad.
Ember couldn't help but think if her sister would have had someone like Jan would she had made it home? "Charming speaks for us all. And I know what you must be thinkin' 'Why would I need two coal rats and two country bumpkins?' Well, Charmin' and Sweetpea can bring you attention, sponsors. One word from Jan and they will be eatin' out of his hands and everyone will be already watchin' Sweetpea to see if she can get back to her loverboy... As for me and Grumpy, we can do what we do best, track, hunt, and kill."

Brass Power, District 2 Male
Brass walked into the room, took in the occupants in one sweeping glance, and let out a soft 'hmm' to himself. 9 and 12 were in tighter than expected. The pretty and the deranged. Brass adopted an easy-going smile and dropped into a chair where he could see the other tributes and their mentors. He wanted to be able to observe them all. He already knew that Ember had no delusions that this game wouldn't have multiple victors, and when that sentiment was echoed by Jan... Well, that added truth to his ever so slightly predatory smile.
His gaze drifted, almost lazily, between twelve and nine as they spoke in turn, before settling back on Jan. "So, let me get this straight, you are proposing a temporary alliance between you four and my career pack to last the first day. Correct?"
He saw no reason to beat around the bush. And as for Ember's reasons... well, they weren't helping Jan's argument. Unless the games lasted only a day, and they rarely had, her offers were empty, and boasts ultimately detrimental to Brass's team. "I may well be agreeable to your proposal, though I and Victoria get to decide what fair distribution of the Cornucopia wealth is."
He knew he was excluding Glory from that, but he wasn't choosing Victoria over her. More he put the name forward as a more neutral ground, and someone within his alliance that would be dividing things up. He waited for Jan's commentary on the counter.

Jan Colton
There's a long, hard look at Brass. "You must think I'm a complete backbirth. I might be a thresher on barley farm, but I'm not stupid."
There's a sidelong look to Ember, and then those dark brown eyes go back to Brass.
"Me, you, Victoria, and Ember. You have my word on my twin-brother's soul that I'll play fair." Anyone who knew Jan knew that using Jace as what he'd swear on wasn't something he did lightly. There was no deception there. Absolutely none.
He wouldn't sully Jace's name. Not in a million years. "We split the Wealth, and we all have a hand in it. Not just you and Victoria. Not happening."

Brass Power, District 2 Male
Brass didn't think Jan was a complete backbirth. Jasper, maybe. But not Jan. His tongue was too silvered to be a complete backbirth, but the statement to have two different careers separate the loot had had two intentions. One, to put the power of deciding who got what solely in the career's hands if these other four just rolled over and accepted, and secondly to test the mettle of the noncareers seeking a temporary alliance. If they didn't have the backbone to stand up here, how would they be anything other than nonfleshy targets at the bloodbath?
Brass's smile almost reached his eyes. "I hardly think you're a backbirth, Jan. But I also needed to know if you've got spine to go with your silver tongue. I'm sure you're smart enough to understand that need."
He let his gaze move away from the District Nine tribute and over to his partner, then drift over the twelves, and the mentors before coming back to Jan. Ember'd said that they didn't have a leader, but that wasn't what appeared to be going on in this room, at this moment. Jan was the spokesperson and certainly seemed to be calling the shots for the group at the moment. Brass let a lazy smile coast onto his face once more. "Any other qualifiers?"

Ember didn't say a word because she agreed with Jan. Cinder Clay was killed six years ago because she trusted a career to play honorably. Ember didn't want to make that same mistake. She half-accepted Jan and Isolde to turn on her when it served their purpose. Didn't change her tactics any. She swore to Jan and Isolde that she'd face them honorably. They swore to do the same. For now, she'd just have to trust that. Until they proved to her otherwise.
These Careers would give no such trust. Ember knew that Brass was a killer and they were competition. Though, she figured Brass for the type to meet a challenge head-on, she couldn't or wouldn't blame him from trying to kill them silently.
"Unless Charming, Sweetpea, and Grumpy have anything to add no other qualifiers on our side..." Ember said. "So what you say to this won't have any barring on our truce... I offer to you and Glory that if or when we do meet as combatants that you'll be awake, you'll be armed, and you'll know that I'm coming... If you can offer to do the same for me."
She glanced at her alliance mates for a moment. "No one else has to agree to this. If you don't want to face either of them in that a way, the offer won't extend to you and you'll be fair game if they get the drop on us." Ember met Brass' gaze. "Personally, I think it might be fun to see who's better... Call me crazy."

'Grumpy' was living up to his moniker, scowling every time that Brass spoke. Jan's last remark elicited a scowl, yet Jasper remained quiet. At Ember's question for any input from him, he only shook his head. He remained quiet for several more moments.
Isolde's eyes moved from speaker to speaker, remaining engaged in the conversation. She was largely quiet until Ember's last statement 'call me crazy'; which made Isolde smirk. 'We're all going to see whose better," Isolde stated. '- but I'm getting the feeling - especially from your Mel - " She looked towards Brass. "- that he wants to see more than the usual Blood Bath. The Big Alliance drew a lot of eyes and they seemed to get sponsors. The first day of an alliance could see us well equipped.... and then we'd have a fair tit for tat."
Jasper frowned, shifting to sit beside Ember. "More weapons for us and more for them."
Glory smiled, glancing over to Ember. "Not a bad plan... for the first 24 hours. Do you have any other non aggression pacts going? I think its only fair that we know if we need to abide by anything."

Ember nudged Jasper.
"You're not seeing the big picture, Grumpy. The best part of that sentence is 'More Weapons for us,"" Ember told her district mate. Sure, having Brass and the careers armed just like they were is going to be a problem. But that was a problem for Future Ember and Future Grumpy to solve. Right now, what was important was making it to Day Two of the Games.
"We don't have any pacts with anyone else... And as far as I know we're not lookin'," Ember replied, hoping she wasn't stepping on any toes. "What about you guys? I know Bogie wants to ally with you guys. And Princess Punch and the Shadow. Anyone else?"

Brass smiled at that. He'd be more than willing to take Ember out in the open and nodded. "I'll take you up on that offer, Ember. You'll not die in your sleep by my blade."
As his mentors spoke and issued approval for the truce, and that it might bring in Mel, at least, as a sponsor, he felt validated in following Ember's last comment with, "Good. It's settled then, we have a pact to work together, divide the loot of the horn, and go our separate ways at the 24 hour mark. As for others you need to avoid hurtin'... there's Bogart of 11, he's under our wing, and, as you mentioned with your cute little nicknames, Victoria and Eclypse of 1. Everyone else is fair game."

"I'd rather not die in my sleep. I'd rather go down fighting if it's all the same to you. I'll take that deal. We face each other armed and wide awake." It worked for him.
Either way, I win.
"Isolde speaks for herself in that, but twenty-four hours. Everyone but us, your people, and Bogart are fair game, and if we face each other eventually? We face each other fairly. No killing each other in our sleep.
"Sounds good to me." It gave Jan time. The time he needed to do what he wanted to do. Give him a few minutes with Ember, and he was sure she'd be on board.
She knew what it was. She knew how it was.
