Caleb: Endurance Course Caleb departed the wits course and headed toward the Endurance station. Upon first glance it looked more in-depth than the others and would take some time to complete. When he got there, he saw two trainers, one a dark haired male and one a fair haired female – come to greet him. "Hello. I'm Kim and that's Cliff." Kim said to Caleb. "How do you do?" After pleasantries are exchanged, the two led Caleb to his first challenge. A steep and sandy cliff face raised above him. At irregular intervals, sand, dirt and small rocks pound down the cliff face. It would be jarring to climb up that. The cliff leveled out to lead to a sheer rock face. One had to scale across the rock face and underneath a rushing waterfall. Once the waterfall was cleared, one had to descend down a rope into the water below. The challenge that awaited in the water was obscured... "Let’s start with the cliff face," Kim began. "- you notice that there are no climbing aids. You must scale up the sandy and unstable cliff. That sand and rocks will be pelting you, so try to protect your face and eyes." [Strength + Athletics, extended with a goal of 8 suxx] “Thanks, Caleb. Good luck to you too. I’ll see you this evening for dinner…” Olivia said with a bright smile. Everything hurt but it was worth it if it meant Caleb was safe. “Hello and thank you Siobhan. I’m Olivia. I hope Caleb did well. I’d hate to have to make fun of him.” She was grateful to sit for a change. It was a nice break though she had to strain her brain. Nerves got the best of her for the first round. But she managed to recover after taking a breath to collect her thoughts. Olivia rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Resolve" 5,4,5,4,4,6 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Resolve" 3,3,2,1,5,10,10,6 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Resolve" 9,8,4,3,10,5,7 (3 successes)

Olivia: Wits || "There is always room for improvement," Siobhan said with a smile. "Good job on your first trial at my station. The next will be similar, but you will only get five seconds to study the picture on the left before having to find it among the ones on the right. Ready?" Siobhan smiled and started the next training section. There were more choices and the pictures rotated even if Olivia didn't pick one. [3 rolls of Wits + Resolve -2]
Caleb Hunnington, District Six: Noble Hearted Martyr "The sky wouldn't light up without my girls in this world." Caleb stretched his shoulders and flexed his arms. He could do this. He smiled at the pair of trainers. "I'm Caleb, of District Six. Thanks for running me through the grinder. I'm getting tired, but... think I can manage one more course."Caleb took a running start at the cliffside and bounded upward. He made steady progress about the first third, pausing to shelter his face and eyes from the flying rock and sand, then figured out the rhythm and make quicker progress. He was feeling the ache in his arms and body as he pulled himself up on top. Caleb Hunnington rolled 8 dice to "Climbing Cliff" 6,2,2,8,9,1,3,4 (2 successes) Caleb Hunnington rolled 8 dice to "Cliff Climbing" 7,9,8,1,5,5,1,2 (2 successes) Caleb Hunnington rolled 8 dice to "Climbing Cliff" 1,8,4,10,8,8,7,4,3 (4 successes)

Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for The Battle: The Fortuneteller's Son "What is dead may never die." "I am Zale." The way they said things here felt odd on his tongue. His own home was poetic, and everything they said meant something. Even in how a person said 'Hello', it meant something. Different greetings for friends, family, lovers.... To say 'Hello' felt so plain. So disrespectful. So...not who they were. "I know a little. I would like to learn more. Perhaps something a bit more fluid or sure than merely punching my brother when he would say something rude?" It was an attempt at a smidgen of a joke. Humor was lost on him--at least, this place's humor--most of the time. 2013-04-23 15:56:50 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl " 10,8,8,4,5,7 (3 successes) 2013-04-23 15:58:22 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 3,6,2,3,9 (1 successes) 2013-04-23 15:59:05 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 5,8,8,1,2 (2 successes) 2013-04-23 15:59:47 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 7 dice to "Strength + Brawl + All Out" 1,8,5,8,5,2,5 (2 successes)

Caleb: Endurance Course Caleb found Kim waiting for him at the top. Her speedy arrival meant that she had come by different means. Which was also apparent by her wet clothes. The cliff leveled out, leading toward a sheer rock face. If Caleb looked down, he’d see that a mishap would cause him to fall into the water below. He would have to scale across the face and under the rushing waterfall. “Well Caleb of District Six, if you liked that you’re going to love this. You can begin when you want.” [Strength + Athletics, extended with a goal of 8 suxx - 3 mod for every roll]
“I’m stupid,” she said with a frown. And he had the nerve to laugh at her. She smacked him in the arm with the back of her hand and he had the nerve to rub his arm like she had hurt him. She barely touched him. And she was being serious. “I am stupid.”
He smiled. “You’re not stupid. You’re smart.”
She cocked an eyebrow at him. “I’m not smart like you.”
He puffed up; proud. “Well, no one’s smart like me.”
She frowned. “I can still hurt you.”
“Okay, in all seriousness. You’re not stupid. You’re mind just works to fast. You can’t keep up. Breath, relax… You know the answer already. Now, you’ve just have to believe you do. Like I believe in you…” Olivia smiled at the memory. And managed to find the first picture with ease. The second she ran out of time. And third she managed to find the right picture with a second to spare. “Yes there is always room for improvement.”Olivia rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Resolve-2" 1,9,6,8 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Resolve-2" 1,2,2,6 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Resolve-2" 9,5,7,3 (1 successes)

Riven Tanzanite: District One's Volunteer for the 27th Hunger Games, The Anguished Fencer "Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals." Riven smiled and nodded to the trainer, “You and the other instructors have a keen eye for… Natural talent.” There was a knowing glint in her eye, and her smile told the trainer that she knew exactly what he was thinking. Riven had been trained in these skills, it was obvious. She attacked with finesse and power. She repeated the drill that the trainer had performed. Her jabs were strong, her fist colliding with the bag with loud thuds, and her folding elbow was fast, not too strong but it hit enough. She put a lot of strength behind the final kick, and then she turned the trainer with a smile. “How was that?”[27] Riven Tanzanite rolled 6 dice to "Brawl Station 4" 9,2,8,1,7,9 (3 successes) [27] Riven Tanzanite rolled 6 dice to "Brawl Station 5" 7,8,4,10,5,9,2 (3 successes) [27] Riven Tanzanite rolled 6 dice to "Brawl Station 6" 1,8,2,6,6,3 (1 successes) [27] Riven Tanzanite rolled 9 dice to "Brawl Station 7 + will" 7,9,2,6,10,1,3,10,7,2,4 (3 successes)

Zale: Brawl || "John," the trainer said. He extended his arm and clasped forearms with Zale. He likely knew the 'proper' shaking procedure in D4. He smiled at Zale's joke. "Well, if you picture everyone as your brother when swinging, we won't have to train you any further." After a moment of watching Zale, John nodded and held out a hand. "Alright, you obviously know how to throw punches, but for how long? And do you know any kicks? As you should know, your legs are far stronger than your arms and knowing how to properly use them is important. But for now, let's push you. Let's see how long you can pound the bag before you begin 'gassing.' Being tired in a fight is the most dangerous moment." [Stamina + Brawl, 2 rolls, more suxx = a better stamina in the fight against the bag.] Olivia: Wits Station ||| "Oh, most certainly. But for now, a new exercise. Take this," Siobhan smiled and handed her a disc with four colored buttons that lit up in a specific order according to a pattern. "Depress the buttons in the order it shows." [Three rolls: Wits + Resolve -1] Riven: Brawl ||| "Year in, year out, it's what we look for." The trainer, a replacement as John worked with Zale, nodded to Riven. She was roughly Riven's height with short brown hair, and a lighter build. "It was good. But pull that kick back to chamber after you finish. By doing that, you're ready for another quick kick if need be, or any number of different things." She stepped away, engaging a screen to hide the training from prying eyes. "Tell me, how is your grappling? How comfortable are you with fighting here," The trainer stepped close to the bag, forehead maybe three inches from it. "Here is dangerous, especially if you're not comfortable with it. We'll start with a couple drills here, and if you're grappling isn't up to snuff, that's next." [Strength + Brawl, 3 rolls-2 for difficulty fighting in the pocket]
Caleb Hunnington, District Six: Noble Hearted Martyr "The sky wouldn't light up without my girls in this world." Caleb smiled at her and launched himself off the cliff. His trick was to quickly complete the course before his arms fell off. He judged each quick hand over hand, ducking his head beneath the water and using feel and intuition as he moved along before emerging the other side rather quickly. Might not have been the intention, but... Hey, he'd done it. Caleb Hunnington rolled 5 dice to "waterfall shimmy" 2,7,9,8,10,7 (3 successes) Caleb Hunnington rolled 2 dice to "Climbing rote" 4,10,8 (2 successes) Caleb Hunnington rolled 5 dice to "waterfall shimmy" 4,4,9,9,9 (3 successes)

Zale smiled broadly, obviously pleased. It was a taste of home in the most unlikely place, and it made him not-quite so home-sick as he'd been. "Well...he is bigger than me, so I usually lost." Unless he had a spear or a long staff in his hands, and then Zale was doing just fine against his brother. He listened to the instructor intently, though he was a touch tired from all the running and swimming and other things he'd been doing. Everything had been extremely physical today, and he had the feeling he was going ot collapse into bed tonight, exhausted. But it was a good tired. It meant he'd done well. "Were I not so tired, I feel I could have done much better. I've done...much today." 2013-04-24 00:02:50 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 3,2,5,10,9,3 (2 successes) 2013-04-24 00:03:26 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 6,9,7,2,6 (1 successes)

Zale: Brawl |||
"No worries," John answered. "But keep in mind that in the Arena, you might not get much chance to rest. We'll take it a touch slower here. And we'll see what we can do about evening the odds against someone bigger than you."
John directed Zale over to a punching bag in the shape of a man's body. "There are several weak spots in a human body. Joints, the throat, the soft spot under the arms. With a couple good hits there, your brother might reconsider continuing the fight."
He went on to instruct a few point striking spots, a nerve cluster in the neck, the proper way to blow someone's knee out with a kick, the best spot to strike the femoral artery in the thigh, etc.
[Strength + Brawl -4, 3 rolls]

Caleb: Endurance Course As Caleb engaged in the course, climbing across the sheer wall, he found that Kim was following him. "You're a natural." She told him. "Normally the sound of the fall and slick surface make the climb difficult. Now we descend down the rope -" A finger pointed to the rope that descended to what seems to be right into the water that was turbulent and tossed by the waterfall. "Have you been swimming before? Doesn't matter. Once you get down the rope, you'll see the next challenge. Don't let go of the rope." [Strength + Athletics, extended with a goal of 8 suxx - 3 mod for every roll] “Oh, it's like the start up sequence with some of the cars...” Olivia said taking the disc. Olivia: Wits Station |||| "Oh! Do you and Caleb drive together? He mentioned the same thing." Siobhan reached across and touched the difficulty setting. "It'll go a little bit faster now as it increases in difficulty. Don't dwell on the failures. I know you can do it." [Make 1 roll of Wits + Resolve-2 (for difficulty). Make 3 additional Wits + Resolve, increase negative mods by -1 each roll, ending with -5] Riven: Brawl |||| "Then that's what we'll work on. Your elbows and knees will help when you're in tight. While there's some sword maneuvers that work well when grappling, they aren't my forte." She stepped in front of Riven. "Now, the point of grappling is to control your opponent, put them on the ground or at a disadvantage. There's a few basic tie-ups that I'm going to teach you, and how to get into and out of them, as well as a couple locks from them. If you need me to repeat something, don't hesitate to stop me." The trainer moved in and grabbed Riven, tucking her head down, and into a guillotine choke for a moment, then proceeded to give a more in depth instruction to the maneuver and the basic of grappling, including a few techniques that could be done while holding something in one's hand. Caleb: Endurance Course Kim was laughing when Caleb made it down. "Yeah, down you go. Kept hold of the rope, it'll be your guide to your next objective. You'll have to hold your breath and pull yourself down through the water on the rope." The rope was lost among the churning waters created by the waterfall that Caleb has just descended in. "Deep breath and you'll make it." To make it to the last and final section, Caleb would have to use the rope either as a guide while swimming beneath the turbulent water, and it churned with strong undercurrents, or use the rope itself to pull himself along. [Strength + Athletics, extended with a goal of 12 suxx - 3 mod for every roll begin with a Stamina + Athletics + Swimming Specialty (if applicable) for holding one's breath] “No, I watch Caleb drive but sometimes he lets me see the inside of the cockpit” Olivia admitted. It was against the rules but a lot of the things they did were against the rules. To her surprise she didn't fail miserably. Maybe it was the mention of Caleb. Maybe it was Liv imagining him sitting next to her cheering her on but she completed the exercise. “Thank you. That was a lot of fun.” Olivia rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Resolve-2" 2,10,1,7,1 (1 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 9,5,5 (1 successes) Olivia rolled 2 dice to "Wits+Resolve-4" 9,9 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 4 dice to "Wits+Resolve-5+WP" 8,10,8,2,5 (3 successes)

They would certainly come in handy for her. Olivia: Wits Station ||||| "Oh. Well, the cars here are very safe. And thinking of them seems to have helped you with this. One last exercise for you," Siobhan says with a smile, misinterpreting the reason for Olivia's success. [Roll of Wits + Resolve-3 (for difficulty), extended roll, 10 successes needed. This is also the peak of this training session, meaning Olivia is free to move on to another station after this post.] Riven: Brawl ||||| The trainer pretzeled Riven a couple times, choked her, and was pretzeled and choked. "Good job not panicking when my arm was around your throat. That's about the worst thing to do. Remember, tuck the chin first. A lot harder to get that choke in place if your chin is tucked." She stood up, picked up a mouth guard which she tossed to Riven. "Freestyle sparring now. Anything goes. I promise not to pop you too good, but keep your hands up... and try to take me to the ground at least once." [Strength + Brawl, 4 rolls -4. Her attacks were slightly sloppy, not as powerful, perhaps due to fatigue. Today had been a busy day. However, she did not miss one attack, and her final blow was one she put a lot of force behind. Caleb: Endurance Course
Kim was standing at the opening to the pool as Caleb exited it, a wide smile on her face. She turned away and pointed at a line nearly half a mile away. "Thirty seconds to catch your breath, then beat your feet to the finish line as fast as you can."
She waited thirty seconds, exactly, and shouted: "Go!"

Caleb Hunnington, District Six: Noble Hearted Martyr "The sky wouldn't light up without my girls in this world." Caleb caught his breath, breathing deeply for a moment before taking off at a dead sprint the moment Kim said 'go.' He imagined Liv at the finish line, letting his wet shoes dig against the track and propel him forward. He crossed the finishing line and came to a slow stop, sucking deep breaths of air and feeling the ache of a good workout coursing through his body. He gave a thumbs up to Kim, a sign he was good and he'd enjoyed the training. Olivia took a deep breath and began her final exercise. She liked that this was the last thing she’d do for training. But it was deceptive. This task was so benign that if one would judge the experience of the Games by this task would be shocked to death by the Bloodbath. “Thank you, Siobhan. It’s been fun.”Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 6,7,5 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 4,1,4 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 8,5,1 (1 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 1,4,9 (1 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 6,10,4,9 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 5,10,7,8 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 2,6,9 (1 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 2,6,4 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 10,9,6,3 (2 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 4,4,6 (0 successes) Olivia rolled 3 dice to "Wits+Resolve-3" 7,3,9 (1 successes)

Zale SewellObviously, he wasn't trained well enough in this. His father had trained him to kill with a weapon, but had sadly neglected anything in the way of hand-to-hand other than the very, very basics. He missed all three hits, frowning at himself. "I suppose this is why I am here, yes?" He said a little sheepishly. 2013-04-24 03:41:30 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 4 dice to "Strength + Brawl - 4 + 3" 3,5,1,3 (0 successes) 2013-04-24 03:42:49 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 1 dice to "Strength + Brawl - 4 " 7 (0 successes) 2013-04-24 03:43:27 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 1 dice to "Strength + Brawl - 4" 3 (0 successes)

Go ahead and finish up at your final station. We'll be closing this before the Hunger Games begins.

Zale: Brawl ||||
"That it is." The trainer folded his arms over his chest and watched Zale once more. "Take your time. These are precision spots to strike. Go slow at first and make sure your fist strikes the point. Don't rush, we've got time before the training center closes."
John went through the drill once more. A, slower than before, punch to the brachial nerve bundle, followed by a slower open hand chop to the throat and a reverse punch to the solar plexus. He stepped back, ready to correct the intricacies of where Zale's blows landed. "Take your time."
[Strength + Brawl -2, 3 rolls]

Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for The Battle: The Fortuneteller's Son "What is dead may never die." Zale watched again while the instructor showed him what he was supposed to do, and made a point of remembering it. There was no way he was going to fail this time, and he threw himself into the punches and kicks in a way that he never had when he'd sparred with his father. The first two hits were alright. They'd do the job, but the last one.... ...he'd probably broken the Tribute's knee or leg with that last one. 2013-04-24 17:50:15 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl -2 +2 (All Out)" 3,9,7,7,9 (2 successes)2013-04-24 17:50:15 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl -2 +2 (All Out)" 3,9,7,7,9 (2 successes) 2013-04-24 17:51:30 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 5 dice to "Strength + Brawl -2 +2 (All Out)" 3,10,10,9,9,7,10,8 (6 successes)

Zale: Brawl |||||
"You're doing good. Slowing down definitely helped, and splendid power on that last strike. If it didn't break the tribute's knee, it certainly would have torn it to pieces and made the remainder of the fight a very difficult one." He paused, looking Zale over for a long moment before patting the training dummy once more. "You've learned the spots and proven that you can hit them. And hit them with power. Now I want you to step up the tempo some, move from side to side, evade phantom blows and strike the dummy once more. Make at least two in this drill to the weak points in a man's body, and we'll call it good for the day."
John stepped back. "Keep it up until the buzzer times." John depressed a button and a beep signaled for Zale to start in on the dummy.
[Strength + Brawl -3, 2 rolls, an additional 2 rolls at Strength + Brawl -4 for the precision strikes the trainer requested. This'll wrap up Zale's time at the Brawl station for this session.]

Zale Sewell; District Four's Male Warrior for the Battle: The Fortuneteller's Son "What is dead may never die." He could have done better here, but he did blame the fact that he'd run the endurance station. And spent some time in other places. He was quite exhausted, and the first two hits do well, but the precision strikes miss. Which meant he needed to work harder on this. And he needed to hope he wasn't exhausted if he were faced with a Tribute and he were weaponless. And he hoped to never, ever be weaponless. 2013-04-25 01:43:45 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 4 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 1,8,10,1,8 (3 successes) 2013-04-25 01:44:12 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 4 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 6,8,6,3 (1 successes) 2013-04-25 01:44:38 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 3 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 6,4,6 (0 successes) 2013-04-25 01:45:00 [HG27] Zale Sewell rolled 3 dice to "Strength + Brawl" 4,5,4 (0 successes)
