To Jan:
A letter arrived for Jan and Lyme as they watched the scene in Tidal Peninsula unfold.
Lyme and Jan, please join the Big Alliances' mentors as we plan for the morning and decide what to do about Silver's actions. We will be in district seven's main room.
Thank you, Branden; District 7
"We should go." Lyme bit her lip as she read the message. "There's no chance we can go in, so we'll be safe. But they likely are asking every one whose tribute is with Isaac and Psyche."
To district seven mentors Conrad and Tank:
Branden collected his son first from wherever he was, briskly saying that they couldn't talk freely in front of the sponsors. Not the hall. He took them back 'home', to the main apartment room of district seven. The remains of seven apples thrown against the wall signal that Apple has run out of things to throw.

On a screen in the room...Once they were away, Silver the sense to tie a rope around her waist and secured her hands to it. Aurora had enough slack to put her hands in front of her unless Silver pulled on that rope.
Aurora’s expression was neutral. Silver’s too. Each trying to hide their emotions. One of them was clearly doing a better job. Rory expression may have been neutral but her eyes gave her away. She was absolutely terrified.
“You’ve been quite, little one,” Silver finally said as he continued to shove her toward the Horn. “Odd, no? Given you reputation. You’re the orator. The great swayer of minds. And yet, you haven’t said a word. Does that seem right to you?”
Aurora didn’t reply.
Silver chuckled. “Ah, I see. I admire your tenacity, little one. I really do. But it doesn’t change who you are and what’s in store for you.”
Aurora again said nothing.
“I know what you’re thinking…” Silver said as they walked along. “You’re thinking of a ways to escape. Did I tighten the ropes enough? Could you disarm me? Could you strangle me with this rope?” He laughed. “Your inaction tells me that you have figured out you can’t or you’re waiting until I make a mistake…”
“You already made a mistake Silver…” Aurora finally spoke, her voice cracking with fear only slightly.
“Oh? And what mistake was that?”
“You came after me…” Aurora replied. “I didn’t win the Hunger Games like you did, Silver. I made friends in here not just enemies. Some of those friends are in this Arena right now. Some of them are in the Capitol watching. Others are in District Seven, rooting for me. But none of them are too happy with you right now.
“Silver, I already won. I’ll be surprise if I make it out of the Arena alive, but I’ll be more surprised if you do as well.”
Aurora stopped walking so she could glance back at Silver, a smirk on her face. “Was that speak more of what you were expecting? I can try a---”
Silver yanked on the rope until Rory fell. Before she could stand up he had descended upon her, wrapping the rope around her neck. Once… Twice… Silver leaned back until she choked.
“You are rebellious little girl…” Silver whispered, harshly as he pulled her to her feet. “People like you are the reason we have the Hunger Games. Your sense of pride and entitlement makes you think you’re enlighten. But it just makes you weak.
“I was 17 when the war ended. Rebels stole my father’s eye. It was because of the Rebels the Hunger Games were created. And even when my name was pulled, I didn’t whine. I didn’t cry for my father, a war hero. Even the son of a Capitol Soldier wasn’t spared. And I won. I won without an alliance. Without hordes of sponsors. I won because I was the strongest. Someone didn’t give me a crown. I earned my Victor Crown.
“In this world there are no handouts. And in the arena, you kill or you die. There is no halfway. The Districts have forgotten that. Maybe with your death, they’ll start to remember again.”
Silver released her and Aurora gasped for air.
“Move…”
Aurora moved, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

Janus "Jan" Colton; Co-Victor of the 26th Annual Hunger Games: "The Killer with the Angel's Face." “I will hurt you for this. I don't know how yet, but give me time. A day will come when you think yourself safe and happy, and suddenly your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you'll know the debt is paid.” It happened when most were taking downtime, but Jan had been in the Sponsor Hall, watching the screens. The kids were sleeping for the most part, and he knew he could be left alone to watch over them. And Ember... ...With there being two Mentors from District 9 now, they could work in shifts. Which was exactly what they were doing. So when he saw what happened with Aurora, he'd taken off at a near-dead run toward the District 9 Apartments. Seemed to him that Lyme had already been contacted though, and he could only nod--nearly out of breath--when she insisted they go meet with District 7. Something had to be done. ----- "What do you suggest? We can't just do nothing." Because he wasn't willing to do that. "Tell me what you want me to do. I'll burn the midnight oil. They aren't going to let me go in--not without a lot of convincing on all of our parts--but I'm willing to do what needs to be done.
"He's gone too far." And Jan wasn't going to let this happen. "...I doubt the Gamemakers are thrilled with this development."

"No." Lyme shook her head. "We're supposed to be training them how to hunt, fish - or maybe even to kill; but not this. We weren't supposed to go after the children. He put his hands on Olivia." This clearly upsets Lyme. "I imagine the Game Makers are going to resolve this. Lets go into the district seven apartment and meet with them. We can work on the sponsor angles. Get this to funnel people from the careers to us."
Lyme knocked on the door and opened the apartment to district seven.
"Whats to talk about? We go in there and slit his frakking throat!"
"We can't go in there. Rory hasn't tagged out yet." Branden. Stable, calm Branden. Yet his voice is colored with faustration.
"We should appeal to Matthias. This was intended for us to educate the children. Silver isn't even with his tributes, now."
"Appeal!" Something crashes to the floor. Apple is enraged and the entire room is hearing it.
Lyme glanced at the television monitor. The station was turned to the commentator station, who were featuring the scene where Rory was walked away by Silver. Yet there was nothing currently showing of Rory or Silver.
"They aren't live." She noted. "Game makers are squelching it."

Brass, Jasper, Mel and Lorne arrived next and the conversation continued as to what they shoud do about Silver's actions. "I'm going to get Mathias." Rowan declared. "And someone better have a plan when I get back."
"When did she start talking?" Jasper remarked. "Probably about the time she realized being a victor poses real consequences." Apple snapped. "Now which one of you louts is going in there to thump Silver?"
Brass laughed outright at Apple's forthright attitude, but her black look sobered him.
"I'll go in." Jasper declared. "For Kris and Eris." He specified. "No ones' touching my kids." "I'll go in." Mel declared. "We need to check in with Caleb and Olivia -"
"I hear theres a meeting." Mathias arrived. A flurry of movement happened as Apple threw herself forward, only to be thwarted by Branden and Rowan's interception.
"Forgive her." Rowan managed as she grappled with Apple to pull her from the Game Maker. "Forgive me for what I'll do if Rory dies, you -" "I understand." Mathias emphasized. "This wasn't the intention. You were supposed to teach fishing and survival, not kidnap each other and certainly not manhandle children. I'll send some thing in there to fish Silver out-"
"At what risk to Rory?" Branden frowned. "All right." Mathias sighed. "You can go in. You have twenty minutes to diffuse the situation before someone goes in for Silver. I will NOT televise this."

To the Gamemaker. To the others. "Hear me out, if you would. I know District 9 isn't supposed to go into the Arena. I get that. But...I also think it's unfair that you'll be using your time to help your kids. Wasting precious minutes trying to talk Silver down from...whatever he's doing.
"Let me go in. I won't be dealing with my kids. It won't be on the screens. Let me go in, and let me try to talk him down. It's sort of my thing. You know I have the best chance of getting through to him, and it's not really fair for you all to have to go into the Arena and waste precious time to clean up this mess he made."Jan looked at Mathias. " You have my word on my brother's soul, sir. I'll go in and diffuse the situation. Nothing more. Twenty minutes." 2013-05-28 21:48:47 [HG26] Jan Colton rolled 13 dice to "Manipulation + Persuasion + Striking Looks + Willpower" 8,4,5,9,3,5,10,9,1,3,1,10,8,7,5 (6 successes)

"You're not going in." Mathias refused flatly. "District nine had a chance to compete for the honor of going in. The other districts were awarded the honor - on national television. Allowing you to go in .." Mathias glanced towards Lyme, buying him time as he considered Jan's argument. He took the time to check his wrist screen of the Game, mentioning.
"Your children are heading right to Silver as part of the Big Alliance. Theres no way you can get to him and not interact with them. They may arrive first, fast as they are."
"Is there a particular reason that you don't want Jan to go in?" Lyme wondered. "You didn't beat out the other victors." Mathias stated. Behind him, Brass and Jasper discreetly exit the room. Lorne and Mel shake Branden and Apple's hands before departing.
"Imagine the uproar the other mentors will give me if I just let the Darling in there because he asked. "

It wasn't fair, but whatever. His sense of 'fair play' meant nothing, apparently. That these Mentors were being forced to go into the Arena to talk down an insane mentor, and were forced to use their precious time that belong to their Tributes to do it? That wasn't fair. But there were things he could do from here. A great many things, and he looked at Lyme. "I'll be in the Spectator's Hall...after I get a bit more presentable. I'll see what I can do from this end. After all...everyone knows this is where I excel anyway."Mathias wanted to call him a 'Darling'? Fine. He'd show that bastard how much of a 'Darling' he could really be.

Apple relaxed at Mathias' decision. Rory would be coming home and thats all that she cared about.
"Shouldn't have let her go in." She says quietly to Branden, who looks guilty at Apple's assessment.
"Lyme, Jan..." Apple approaches the two from district nine. "Thank you for coming. And for.." She gestures towards Mathias' departing back.
Thank you for trying to go in? For posing a better idea than whatever Mathias was planning? Whatever she was trying to say, it appeared difficult for her. She bit the corner of her cheek.
"Yes." Branden stepped in beside Apple. "You don't know how much we appreciate the effort. Even if they won't allow it, it means a lot that you tried."
"Yet we have another problem." Rowan turned on the television screen. True to his word, Silver and Rory were not on any screen. Yet the careers were seen walking towards the horn, descending down from the cliffs. Rowan changed channels and there were Psyche and Isaac, crouched on the edge of Cornucopia and watching something with worry on their faces. Willow and Pan join them.
