Rory: District 7 Female Tribute
“No, sir.” Rory replies. “But I’ve planted trees before. The roots are delicate, so you have to be careful.”
She commits the vegetables to memory. And the reed too. She’s knows she’ll need it in the weeks to come. She only hopes she’s ready.

Femra: District 8 Female
Okay, I guess I was wrong. This seems much more complicated than expected.. I picked up the finger splint and fumbled with it.
"How do you open it?" It was probably very easy, but I am new to the medical appliances. Back in district 8 we just use nature.
I stared at the other tools with amazement. All these in one kit? This kit alone would cost me about 25 tesseraes back home! I couldn't believe my eyes! I looked up at the trainer, and she was staring intently at me.

Rory "The roots are delicate," The trainer agrees. "-but you can try to uproot the vegetables without hurting the roots. These aren't very flavorsome," She indicated the colorless roots. "- but you can try and add some mushrooms and any other things you can find. I have set up a little rooting garden."
She leads you over to a wooden planter about sixteen inches deep. The surface was muddy, a small pool of water was in the corner of the planter. "This is a simulated aspect of what you may find near a lake. There are some plants that have been planted here - some are edible, some aren't. I'll let you find them and decide if they are edible." She states to Rory. You realize this is how you may have to work; digging with your hands in muddy ground.
Femra[/color]
"Its wrapped in this paper you can just use the splint to punch through." The trainer demonstrates, opening the finger splint. "This is what you can use if you break your finger in the arena. This is what a break would look like."
The trainer pulls out a few color photographs. She looks through them and shows you a picture of a index finger bent out of shape and bruised a deep purple color.
"You have to try and reset the bone and place this splint around the finger." The trainer explains. "I've created a model that can help you learn how to reset a finger bone."
She reaches into a box and pulls out a plastic finger joint that seems to have three intersecting parts. "This is how a finger will feel if its broken. See how the bones are out of alignment?"
She guides Femra's hand over the joints. "If it your finger, the pain will be immense and you should take any pain relievers that you have before resetting. Now grip the finger like this -" She grips the index finger. "- and give a solid, steady yank."
Instead of doing so, she hands the 'broken bone' to Femra. "Go ahead and reset the bone and set it with the finger splint."

Rory: District 7 Female Tribute
Rory doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty. When she was young she practically covered in dirt from the moment she woke up to the second her father called her in. So getting messy isn’t a concern for her.
She carefully moves the dirt from the base of the reed that she had been shown earlier. She knows she can eat it. She gathers as many reeds as she can. And then takes a mushroom. She knows mushrooms are tricky. So Rory picks it up to ask a question about it.
“I got these reeds… And I was wondering if this mushroom is editable and if not what do I have to look out for?” she asks.

He's still not good at this, but he's willing to work. Willing to at least try to fix things. To make sure that he can at least pull this off. The food is helping weirdly enough. It's amazing what eating properly for once can do to your body.
He's never pulled the tessare for fear of winding up here. Strange how it didn't help at all.

ST to Rory, District 7 Female "Its best to stay to easily recognized mushrooms. These ones are good because they are easily identifiable. Look at the tops of the mushrooms." The trainer laid three different kinds of mushrooms on the table in front of you. "These are whites and portobello. The color and shape are different than toxic mushrooms that the arena may hold."
She reaches under the table and comes up with another mushroom, enclosed in a clear box. "This is death cap." She lets you evaluate the mushrooms with the deepening colors of brown on its gill that was shaped like an egg. "See how its shaped like an egg on top?" She points out. "The Portobello is rounded and fat, and generally white."
ST to Luci, District 5 Male
The trainer guides Luci to another exercise, this one involving lifting a medicine ball and lowering it behind his head. It worked a different muscle group that was soon straining from exertion.
"That's enough for today." The trainer stated to Luci. "Come back here tomorrow and the next day and practice these exercises to strengthen your muscles. Then perhaps we could try to challenge you."

For the compusary excercise, you are collected from your stations and assured that you can resume where you left off in them. You are led to the far area of the room where a massive station awaited you. Some of the tributes in the power district may recognize a wind tunnel, the device that can produce extreme wind in order to test durability. Let this artifical tunnel had walls fourteen feet high and stretched forty feet long. The entrance of the tunnel was a 'U' shape five feet wide, allowing a full view of the tunnel.
"The arena will possess extremes in temperature and climate." One of the senior trainers addresses you. If you glance to the control center, you see the Game Makers are now seated, thier hands working animatedly at thier work stations. You can't see what they are planning, but you have a feel you are about to get your first taste right now.
"The goal is to face whatever randomly generated terrain the Tunnel contorts itself into and endure to the other side. Failure will result in repeating the Tunnel until you can make it all the way through."
Yet again, Silver has managed to jostle himself to the front of the line. He steps up into the Tunnel and a colorwheel affixed to the top of the tunnel begins to spin, making a rotation before stopping on sunshine yellow. The ground underneath Silver's feet transformed into a bleached white sand. The walls of the tunnel now represented a cloudless sky, flecked with cacti and dry, brittle brush. He was in the desert - and the desert was hostile. A hissing noise sounded as something writhed by his ankle - a serpant! Silver immediately began to run into the tunnel and in moments, he was drenched with perspiration. The heat in the tunnel had to be incredible. Silver attempted to run in a straight line towards the exit, yet perils kept cropping up in his path. A glistening black scorpian, a bristly cacti and even a sheer drop that looked very real. By the time Silver ran out the other side, he was winded and looked very alarmed.
"Take your place." The female trainer looks to Rory.

OK... that didn't look... easy. Not at all. And a snake? A snake? Rory takes a deep breath and centers herself. She can do this. She has to. And maybe just maybe, there's a small part of her that wants to do a little better than Silver. A small and apparently very stupid part of her. But she acknowledges it's as a part of her personality.
She nods to a senior trainer. "I'm ready."

As Rory steps into the tunnel, the tributes behind her watch as the color wheel begins to spin. It eventually lands on a deep green and the tunnel began to transform around Rory. Tall pine trees and oaks stretched out before her, pine needles and undergrowth crunched under her feet. She was in a forest. Yet the temperature suddenly dropped, causing goose-flesh to run up her arms. The sky opened up on her, lacing her with rain that drove down with ferocity. Rory was soaked in seconds. The rain began to hurt.
Please roll Resolve & Athletics to navigate the tunnel for this exercise

Rory Noland: District 7 Tribute
{Rory Noland rolled 5 dice to "Navigate tunnel" 1,3,10,8,8,7 (3 successes)}
Rory grits her teeth and pushes through. She runs, not as fast as she can but fast enough. The rain hurts but it doesn't matter. She can do this, she tells herself. And in the moment nothing matters but this. It isn't a game to the death, not yet. But Rory is acting as if it is.

The rain lashes down sideways, pecking at her exposed skin. Rory plucks her way around slick pine needles and the trees that do little to shield her from the torrential downpour. She is shivering when she jogs out of the other side of the tunnel, but she made it. Was extreme weather in store for you in the arena? Silver, still appearing overheated, glances at Rory. The two peace keepers on either side of the tunnel prevent him from doing much more than smirk.
At the line of waiting tributes, the trainer glances to the next competitor, the slim boy from district 5, Luci. "Take your place." She indicates for Luci to step into the tunnel. What horror awaited him?

Deep breath. Swallow. Just run and keep moving and you'll be fine. The weather can't slow you down. You've climbed in worse conditions than this. It doesn't matter what the ground is. What the terrain is. It's not going to slow you down. Just run.
Still, in the end, he doesn't know how he's going to fare. He just needs to psyche himself up first either way.

The color wheel begins to whirl as the other tributes stare up at. What new horror awaits Luci? The Tunnel's wheel stops at Purple. The ground beneath his feet becomes pebbly and grey boulders jut out of the ground around him. Picking a path through the uneven, treacherous rocks would a nuisance. Then Luci felt the chill. It seeped into his bones, stealing his warmth and making his breath come out in puffs. Had he ever felt this cold before in his life?
Please roll Resolve + Athletics to make it through the treacherous, rocky path

There's a smile. The terrain before him is as simple to run on as flat dirt. He couldn't have gotten an easier one. Still, just because he could run the path while juggling knives doesn't mean he should. There are far too many people who would target that, and he doesn't really want to show up on the Career's radar this early.
Even so, he makes it look almost effortless. Where the others seemed to pick the flattest bits and trudge through any terrain, he doesn't even seem to notice it. Just keeps running a straight line even when that path means running on what's basically a vertical surface.
He just wants this over with.

Luci darts through the terrain quickly, managing to finish his obstacle course faster than any other so far. As the lone tribute finishes his course, the trainer looked to the next tribute. Tank looked like a mountain of a boy. Would his size favor him in this tunnel? "Step up." The trainer directed the male tribute from district 7. The wheel began to whirl about... finally settling on red. What could that stand for?

Tank stepped up, curious as to what color the wheel would give him and what it would result in for him to run through.

Jace Colton
When the targets start moving, he frowns, though he is more than well aware that he's not going to be aiming for people standing still. Not unless he were someplace hidden and had a clear shot...
...He probably shouldn't be thinking like that.
Then again, maybe he should.
The first hits pretty easily, and the second is even better. Enough so that he catches one of the Careers watching him out of the corner of his eye. He hadn't missed yet, but seeing someone--someone else--watching him as intently as the instructor was threw him off, and the next two miss.
There's a snort, and he clenches his jaw, glaring at the other boy momentarily before he throws the next one.
Hitting it directly in the throat
Maybe he was a natural talent at throwing knives, but at least he had the presence of mind to know that it wasn't the only thing he was good at. It wasn't even the best.
And maybe a part of him felt bad for people who were born and bred to do nothing but fight and die in an Arena. Because he had people to go home to who loved him, and they loved him for more than what food he could put in their mouths or what 'honor' he could bring to their District. They had nothing to lose?
He had everything.
And so far as Jace could tell, that made him more dangerous.
Not less.

Tank discovered the first thing about red was that it was hot. Heat seemed to sear the air around him. It rushed down his throat as he inhaled and caused sweat to drip into his eyes. Wiping his brow for a good look at the tunnel before him proved that he was in for a treat. Thick, old trees were fallen across his path. The sounds of fire crackled nearby; but Tank can't see a flame. He has to touch the trees to vault over them and the old bark radiates with heat, burning his hands. Every surface here was hot to the touch...
Please roll Stamina & Athletics
When it was Jace's turn, he found that the wheel spun to white. White was an absence of color, no signal of what was to come... except that it was. The sky turns white as snow flakes spiral down, clinging to Jace's clothes. His arena uniform was far too thin to provide much protection. Goose flesh stole across his bare skin and he couldn't fight the cold that leeched into his bones. Looking forward, he could see that the entire path in front of him was a frozen tundra. Ice crunched beneath his feet; the soles of his feet were hard pressed to keep balanced on this slick surface. How would Jace manage his way across the tunnel?
Please roll Stamina & Athletics, thank you

Jace Colton
Snow.
He could count on one hand the amount of times he'd ever seen snow. Even fewer times when it had laid long enough to actually be touched. Oh..he'd been cold before, but he'd never dealt--really--with snow.
Or ice.
Or anything having to do with those two things. If they couldn't work, they didn't go out. They stayed curled up under blankets and waited for it all to melt.
Likely why he does so poorly, not making it very far before he just...can't anymore. He slips, losing his footing.

Tank was used to being hot, but from manual labour and exertion - not from environments like this. Tank rushed through the course, desperate to get out the other side to safety, wincing every time bare flesh touched bark. Mentally the male resolved to stay the heck away from the red environment in the arena as much as possible.
When he finally exited, his entire outfit was saturated from the sheer volume of sweat that had poured off him, not helped by his bulky mass.
"Tank done..." the male rasped, struggling to speak as his mouth was utterly dry.

The Tunnel reset underneath Jace's body, contorting back to the benign cold metal. He was free to rise and take his place at the back of the line; braving the stares and looks of the tributes in line. Some looked smug. Abigail looked terrified, her arms crossed over her belly. It was no surprise that she was the last one in the line. She clearly had no desire to brave the tunnel.
Emily stepped up to the tunnel next, rubbing her arms. She clearly was apprehensive of another winter setting. The dial swung to a light green, the color of new growth. The arena reset to rolling, grassy hills dotted by splendid purple flowers. Emily actually smiled as she entered the tunnel, getting nearly halfway through when she slowed. It was like she was moving through molasses, each step slower and more labored than the last. Her head turned, her expression one of fatigue. Her eyelids kept drooping down on her, no matter how hard she battled to stay awake. The blonde fell to her knees, coughing. One hand stretched out towards the end of the tunnel, perhaps intending to crawl to safety. Yet her body slumped to the floor as Emily fell asleep.
The tunnel was reset as a trainer stepped forth and carried the girl out of the tunnel. He set the drowsy girl outside of the tunnel, directing her to the back of the line.
Now who would be next...

Rory: District 7 Female Tribute
Its okay, Jace, Rory thinks. We all fall sometimes. The only thing that matters if we get back up. She looks at Silver again. He looks pleased with himself and right now Silver, Tank, Luci, and herself are the only ones that made it through the tunnel. Rory has seen enough to know what Silver might be thinking. Because she is thinking the same thing only about him.
Silver has to go. And as quickly as possible.
The purple flowers are of interest to Rory. Perhaps those are what made Emily pass out. Hopefully that wouldn't happen to her.

Jace Colton[/u]
Just get back up and go again.
A few look smug. Yes he could throw a few daggers, but apparently he wasn't all that sure on his feet. Not the case at all, but when you had never dealt with snow, it was to be expected.
Just get up and go again. Hope for something a little more to his style.
He watched Emily go, and frowned. She trusted too easily. Yes, it was beautiful and yes it looked inviting. That didn't necessarily meant that it was. In fact, he'd have been downright suspicious of it, and the moment the drowsiness set it, he'd have just held his breath and ran for the edge.
[Survival 2. Science 2.]
Because that was... "Valeria." He says to little Abigail as Emily falls. "My oldest brother--Kal--drinks it in hot water when he can't sleep. Puts him right out. Normally, the scent of it just makes you a little sleepy, but a full field of it would make you fall asleep. Might even kill you if you breathed too much in. "
And he realizes he said that out loud, looking around to see if anyone else was actually paying attention to him. Because that kind of knowledge could make or break the Games.
Not a good thing to show that you had it.
-----
When it's his turn, he spins again and waits for the fallout.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Girl
Jasmine hung back, watching the other tributes. She was more than willing to let the other go first. It would allow her to study the tunnel, watch, and learn. She took turns glancing from the tributes to the gamemakers controlling the tunnel. Random challenges? She thought not.
Hmm... the thought trailed through her mind like some mantra to a meditation as the other tributes went through the tunnel before her. Desert, forest, rain, snow, searing heat. Well, she tried to hide her surprise and aww and... well, failed. The simple fact that the tunnel was capable of changing sent her mind reeling, and her jaw toward the floor. The fact the others seemed to get through it, except for the last, Jace she thought he was called, didn't help to settle the butterflies that had just landed in her stomach. What if when she stepped up to the line, the wheel landed on white as well? She'd never even dreamt of snow before. They'd had a freeze before, almost lost a crop of oranges in it, but never snow. And... Was it terribly different from ice? Or, no wait... the girl following Jace didn't make it at all. That brought a frown to Jasmine's beautiful features.
What if the dial dropped on some sort of mix for snow and whatever had dropped the girl? Well, no time to think too much on it. She could remember a time when she was first learning to climb and psyched herself out. She looked up at the gamemakers in the room, then back to the trainer.
She moved forward. With 6 tributes having run the course, she suddenly didn't feel much like waiting to be called up last and letting anxiety get the best of her.
Besides, maybe pushing forward and asking to go next would earn her points with someone. At least it would keep her knees from knocking. With her best commanding voice, that hardly betrayed the butterflies in her gut, she said, "Hey, hi. Can I go next?"
