Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female[/u]
Jasmine moved closer to study the diagram the trainer had made. Everything he said made sense to Jasmine, even if she didn't know how to do things he said. She looked over his shoulder, staring at the funnel in the dirt. She let out a soft 'hmm'. "Would settin' it inna chasm er among other more obvious traps suit the same purpose as creatin' a funnel like tha'?"
She reached down and drew in the dirt, Xs and Os. "Such as th' trap tha's meant to go off bein' the circle while th' others are decoys?"

Knife throwing station ~ Lallek[/b]
"Well done." The trainer stated approvingly. "You have learned to lead for a moving target, what weight to throw at what distance and how to trust your instincts. I feel that you have learned all that you can from this station. You can continue to practice or you can move onto your next station."
As the trainer spoke to Lallek, he noted the brunnette female from one of the lower districts - he thought it was district 11 - approach the station. She was dark skinned and tall, but thin. She began to visiually inspect the throwing knives.
"Hello," The trainer greeted the girl. "Hello. I'm Sorrrel. " The girl replied, glancing towards Lallek. "I wanted to learn how to throw knives."
Over her shoulder, Lallek noticed the District 11 male watching Sorrel with an expression of concern. The boy's expression changed to calm disinterest as his gaze slid to meet Lallek's gaze.
Firemaking Station ~ Rory & Femra
"Its a good idea. A torch needs to last a bit; it may all you have until you can reach suitable shelter. It has no glass globe as a lantern does; so wind and rain could extinguish it." The Trainer spoke to Rory. "But you could always transfer the flame to try and start a fire in a more sheltered area."
As she spoke, a blonde girl approached the Firemaking station. Rory recognized Pearl, someone who'd professed wanting to join the alliance somewhat later. Pearl smiled at Rory as the trainer approached her and asked her the same question; which place was the best harvesting site for a camp fire.
Pearl chose correctly and the trainer took a moment to explain how to set up kindling. As Pearl worked, the trainer approached Rory.
"You're doing well." She remarked. "I've taught you how to set fires and make torches. Do you have any other questions?"
Medinal & Edible Plants ~ Klo[/b]
"Theres no knowing what can be in the arena. Its as the Game Makers choose; but starvation is a terrible and boring death. There will be food to be found if you know what to look for. " The trainer replied to Klo. "You've learned some plants that are good and edible. The others asked me of some poisonious fruits. These are the three used in the 20th Arena." She gestured to the three fruits on the fair left of the assembled poisonous plants. The fruits were round and bright colors- one looked like an apple, one a bright yellow oblong shape and the last was a 'furry' brown one.
"They are designed to look like fruit." The trainer explained. "But this apple..." She used a knife to cut along the peel, stripping it off and handing it to Klo. Klo could immediately tell that the peel felt waxy and flat, not wet and supple like a real apple peel.
The other three poisonous plants were brightly colored - one looked like a greener version of the aqautic plant, katniss.
"When in doubt, look for differences from what you expect. Don't be afraid to observe the fruit and see if any of the arena animals are feeding from the plant. It's always better to lean on the side of caution. Some poisons can be remedied by a sponsor sending medicine, but some will be fast acting.
Knot tying station ~ Jasmine
"The funnel will direct animals to your trap more easily; and it will make hungry tributes think that its a game trail. Setting more obvious traps may make people start looking for traps. Experimentation is the best way to learn and you can set traps and depart; never having to deal with confrontation of failure.
Now here is how to set the snare..." He took two ropes and handed one to Jasmine. He began to weave the knots over one rope, forming a set of loops. After several minutes of weaving and some corrections for Jasmine, he taught her how to set out the trap.
"It will take some practice." He assured, setting out another rope for Jasmine.

Jace Colton[/u]
This time it was a moving target, and though he was still smiling as he watched it, when the instructor stepped away, his eyes narrowed.
Yes, it was harder, but in watching he began to see where it would move. Began to anticipate, and going for the neck and the head and the torso wasn't so hard when he was imagining that this person was trying to kill him.
It wasn't so hard to move. To use the scythe and think of Jan and know that if he lost, he'd never go home. It wasn't so hard, to destroy that manikin. To learn to kill if it meant that he'd see is family again.
You can never go home again.
He would worry about that later. When and if he survived the arena.

Rory Noland: District 7 Female Tribute @ the Fire Making Station
Rory smiled, waving at Pearl. She was one of hers too. She thought about what Apple had said. Only one. And Rory's strategy for the games was either dicey or stupid. The female tribute from district 7 had thought long and hard about those words. Rory had decided she didn't care. Win or lose, she'd play this game on her own terms, her own way.
The trainer's question brought her back to the present. "Hmm.... I do have one last question. Are there any natural substances that I might find in the arena that can act like oil?"

When Sorrel asks to learn to throw knives, Lallek gestures to the targets with one arm as if to say "step right up". He doesn't smile or make any other motions to her. As he begins to walk away from the knife throwing station, Lallek nods to the boy with the now changed expression. He points to the boy, then to his eyes, and then to Sorrel. A friend from home was keeping an eye out on her. How nice. She might live a bit longer that way.
There were other places Lallek could go, but he felt himself drawn to the pool. He wanted to swim and be reminded of home. The chemicals in the water ruined the experience but as he changed out of his uniform and dove into the pool he felt a degree of relaxation. Once he made it to the middle of the pool, Lallek ducks under the water, swimming down to the bottom. He could hold his breath for a long time, a very long time. "I wonder how long it will take before they come in after me." he thinks to himself. At first it was just a joke, but then it seems a good idea.
Lallek returns to the surface for a moment, shoots a glance at Sorrel to check her progress, takes a deep breath, and then dives back under the water. Once he makes it to the bottom of the pool Lallek waits. The longest he had ever held his breath was 5 minutes, he didn't think the trainers would let him stay down there that long though. For now he just waits under the water....

Hand Scythe station ~ "Not bad. You see how you did much more damage here with your first blow than your second? Make certain that you keep forward momentum and put enough power into that swing. You want to deal as much damage as possible; as quickly as possible." The trainer advised. "You put more power into your third blow." He evaluated the mannequin's injuries, running a hand along the gashes. "This blow was very nice. Attempt to replicate these blows with this power."The trainer navigated the control panel, causing the first mannequin to descend and another moving mannequin to ascend. With a hand scythe of his own; the trainer made an eggagerated swing at the mannequin's neck with the cutting end of the scythe, holding the position for a beat. "Make sure that you follow through with your arm. Straight to the neck, then pivot - " The trainer demonstrated, kneeling to strike the back of the mannequin's knee with the flat of the blade. "Cut; crush. If he falls, go in for another cut. " The trainer reset the dummy, gesturing for Jace. "Try for a three point attack, just once this time. Cut, crush, cut. Any place you think would be vulnerable. The dummy will move as you attack it; letting you see how your opponent will react to your blows."
Fire making Station ~ Rory & Femra "Fish oil might be in abundance at lakes, streams or rivers where you can find fish. Don't be afraid to use animal fat - it may burn quickly and create a scent; but it also is easy to burn. "[/b] The trainer advised. Pearl soon finished her kindling set up and moved over to where Rory was, inspecting Rory's torch. "Nice,"[/b] Pearl remarked. "Are you thinking that it may be a cold arena, too?"[/b] "Don't be idle."[/b] The trainer advised, showing Pearl the box of torch supplies and setting her to attempting her own torch. Pearl glanced to Rory as she selected a handful of dried fronds. Knife throwing station ~ LallekSorrel was directed by the trainer through the first excercise, just as he had with Lallek. The first two knives struck the 'two point' mark, although the third missed completely. The instructor stepped closer to the girl as Lallek moved off. He didn't hear the instruction, but it looked as though the different weights were being explained to her. Sorrel rolled 4 dice to "Throwing knives" 4,3,3,5 (0 successes) Sorrel rolled 4 dice to "Throwing knives" 5,9,5,8 (2 successes) Sorrel rolled 4 dice to "Throwing knives" 9,4,9,6 (2 successes)
Odin, the boy watching Sorrel, gave Lallek a concerned frown. He turned around and focussed on the station closest to him, the sword training station. The boy picked up a sword with ease, approaching a mannequin at the trainer's bidding. Swimming station ~ LallekLallek found himself unmolested at the swimming station. No trainers harrassed him about his swimming choices as they were occupied at the edge of the pool where the district 9 females - Micha and Abigail - were learning to dog paddle. Every now and then he caught a curious glance from a trainer, as though they wondered if he was showing off or wasting training time.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female[/u]
Jasmine blushed as the flaw in setting a bunch of obvious traps was pointed out to her. It had sounded like a good idea in her head until the obvious fallacy was pointed out. She did like the idea of setting traps and walking off. If she did it right, she may never have to actually kill one of her former allies.
Jasmine studied the snare, then worked to duplicate the lacework of the knots she'd learned. She accepted the corrections when the trainer made them, and did her best to commit them to memory. She was quiet and pensive, and once she was done, covered the snare trap with a few leaves and a bit of dirt and stepped back to admire her handiwork. Next to the trainer's it was a child's mess... but, it might work if she could get someone to chase her down a trail where she knew there were traps and they didn't. She smiled at the trainer. "Thanks. Nets? Unless there's more to be taught with this."

"Thank you!" I smiled. "Could you show me some medical plants?" I asked taking one last look at the edible plants and the poisonous plants.

Rory Noland: District 7 Female Tribute @ the fire-making station
Rory logs the fun facts about fish oil and animal fat into the memory banks and thanks her trainer before giving her attention to Pearl.
"Thanks... I'm thinking that its better to be safe then frozen." Rory replies to Pearl with a wink. She watches Pearl begin to make her torch"Wrap the rope around the fronds... It's burn better, longer."
Then nods her goodbye to Pearl and heads over to the Axe Station

Tree Course: Tank
"Tank finished now?" he asked the instructor, painfully aware he didn't have much time left and he needed to get in as much training as possible.

Knot tying station ~ Jasmine
"No, I think you've learned the snare. Now nets require patience. Your sponsors may send you already made nets that you can simply place; or you can use snare wire, rope or construct rope from what you find in the Arena. Do you want to learn how to make the nets; or how to place the nets?"[/b]
Edible & Medicinal plants ~ Klo[/b]
"You arrived at this station just as I started teaching medicinal plants." The trainer reminded Klo. "Do you have a question about any of them?"
Fire making station ~ Rory, Femra & Pearl "Yes, good advice." [/b] The trainer agreed; bidding Rory good bye as she moved on. "See you soon." Pearl bid Rory; although under the circumstances it had an omnious undertone.
Axe Station
"Hello."[/b] The trainer at the Axe station was female; short and stout. She gestured for Rory tep up to the table. The table had three axes - a small hatchet that could attach to a belt, a larger axe with a head the length of Rory's hand and a double bladed axe.
"Which would you like to learn about?" She asked Rory. "Choose one and we'll begin."
"Yes, you've done well. Go ahead to your next station." [/b] Tank was told.

Rory Noland: District 7 Female Tribute @ the Axe Station
Rory looks at the first two axes. Both of which she's had a lot of practice with. Her eyes light up at the sight of the third axe. She's seen these in the games before but never up close. She is pretty good with an axe. And can throw one like a champ. But she isn't strong. Not a fighter in the tradition sense.
However, when Rory wraps her hands around the double bladed axe she feel complete, like the axe is supposed to be there.
She nods to the trainer.
"This is one I've never seen before. I'd like to start with this."

Jace Colton
Cut. Crush. Cut.
Rather than cutting constantly. He had to remember that he wasn't threshing grain. That he wasn't cutting Barley or harvesting wheat. He was trying to kill someone.
Never forget that. That he was killing someone, because only one of them would be able to go home.
Cut. Crush. Cut.
The last one didn't hit, the dummy managing to move out of his reach. He was better than this, and mistakes like this would kill him in the arena. He couldn't afford them.
And neither could his Alliance.
So...
Cut. Crush. Cut.
Solid hits, but he had to get serious about this. They were watching. Everyone was watching.
Everyone was waiting for him to fall. To fail. To be weak....and then to jump on it.
He didn't have the luxury of weakness.
Cut. Crush. Cut.
He stops, breathing heavily and looking at the manikin. At what would be a person in the Arena.
Never forget that it's a person.
"I can keep going. If you want more."

"Oh yes I recall you showing us Aloe and Garlic! Silly me always blurting words out without any time to think of what im saying! Anyways I do not have any more questions. Thank you for explaining to me. In the end you could end up saving my life! Im so grateful to have you trainers here! And im sure the other tributes appreciate you as much as I do.. Do you have anything else to add?" I ask.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female[/b]
Jasmine considered the choices for but a moment before answering, "Settin' them up." The trainer was right, she might be sent nets from the sponsors, and time was getting short for the training. Knowing how to properly set the nets was more important right now than learning how to make them from scratch... If she won, she might encourage next year's tributes to learn to make them and she'd teach them how to set. "Definitely settin' 'em up."

Rory had a few minutes to examine the axe. The trainer showed Rory the proper way to grip this larger, heavier axe. She quickly realized that it would tax her strength more than the axes that she was used to. The trainer had showed her the proper way to extend her arm and how to follow through on a swing. After two practice swings; the trainer approved of Rory's technique.
Jace practiced his technique under the trainer's watcher eye. As he completed his exercise, the trainer walked near him and demonstrated the technique that had suited Jace best. "You had great success with targeting this area." The trainer approved. "When you get to the arena; remember that this is your best talent - and your best area to target. Don't let distractions such as unusual weapons distract you; you have experience in this area. I feel confident that the scythe will serve you will in the Arena."
Klo received a nod of approval from the trainer. "I think that you've paid enough attention to be prepared for how to find some plants in the arena. I do hope that you remember what you've learned here when you reach the arena."
"There's a good idea." Jasmine was told. "Here's the best idea to set up a snare. Its a good idea to find an area where people may be hurrying - near a food or water source is a good bet. You could also herd people near it if you feel confrontational; but thats certainly not needed for it to work." Jasmine spent some time following the directions of the trainer who taught her how to properly set up the snares.
Over dinner that evening, your mentor explains that the time in the training center has come to an end. Tomorrow you would attend the televised interview; and the next day you would enter the arena. Final preparations were underway; from ministrations from your stylist to last minute questions from tribute to mentor.
