Tank looked up from stashing his new supplies into his backpack.
"Sentry."
He pointed in the direction that Rowan had gone, just as both the cannons sounded. Tank's face fell as his eyes shot skyward, a relieved sigh as neither tribute shown in the sky were Rowan. As Jasmine shot off suddenly, Tank recalled that she shared the same district as Odin and he mentally kicked himself. Idiot...

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
They were all just smiling a second ago. A mistake. A false happiness. The Hunger Games were by definition not a joyous occasion. The Tributes were not throwing themselves into an arena wrought with death because it was fun. It's because they had to. It's because no one stood up and said it was wrong.
The cannon blasts herald death. Harbingers of doom and misery. Two more families left with a hole in them. District 8 and 11... Her eyes darted to Jasmine. Rory know how she would feel if it was Tank or Rowan up there. She knew how she'd feel if Jasmine's face was up there. So she could guess what her alliance mate was going through. I'll be strong for you too.
"Tank make sure Rowan drinks when she gets back," Rory said and then grabbed two of the full water skins. She went after Jasmine and caught up with her near the treeline. Rory didn't run. She walked so she arrived after Jasmine had a few moments to herself.
"Here," Rory handed her a water skin, before she drank deeply from her own. Rory didn't sit, she merely stared toward the treeline. "There's another reason I volunteered, Jasmine...." Rory paused because she knew what she was about to say could change the gamemakers' views about her alliance. But she didn't care. Jasmine needed to hear this. And so did Panem. "I was going to volunteer this year anyway. It just so happened that it was Gable's sister who was reaped. And Gable... well if you saw him, you'd get it... But I told him the morning of the Reaping, I couldn't take much more of this. Every year, we come out here and offer up our children and for what? Entertainment? To keep us in line? One person out of 24 comes home to the ruins of their lives. I thought if I could volunteer, and keep one family from going through what Odin's family is going through right now... It would have been worth it."
Rory paused. "We'll have to be strong for each other. And if we win we have to live for everyone here who died. Even Jace, even Lallek, even the Careers. But especially, for Odin and for Femra."

Rowan spies Rory and Jasmine near her and walks over towards the two young women. She pauses a foot from Jasmine; evaluating the other tribute's expression warily. "Sorry about your mate." The girl says; sympathy in her tone. The brunette glances towards Rory with a worried expression. The girl shifts from foot to foot; rubbing her arms. The cold was ever present; and she glanced back towards the tree. Her eyes ticked towards the Grey Mountains where the cat stalked...

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine stalked, spying Rowan in the direction of the trees. She'd picked the location because trees were her home, her comforting place. It's where she grew up and where she was most comfortable, swinging and flowing from branch to branch. She hadn't picked it because she actually expected Rowan to be there, and so veered away from the other girl. When she got about fifty or so feet from the dividing line between the sections, she slung her bow and let herself be shaken by a couple quiet sobs.
She hurt inside. She just earlier that day she'd hoped for this, so she'd not need to make a hard decision. But now... she didn't know. She felt suckerpunched in the gut by guilt. If she'd sided with Odin and Sorrel instead of the big alliance, maybe Odin'd still be living. Then again, the fight with the careers wouldn't have turned out as favorably as it had. Lallek and Jace might be dead, she thought bitterly, then added in a more somber mental tone: So might Rory and Rowan and Tank.
She didn't look up when the crunch of snow and stone announced Rory and Rowan's arrival, and numbly accepted the waterskin when it was offered to her. She still had one that had water in it, she'd only drained one of the two she took with her while hunting, but... She upended it in her mouth as Rory spoke.
Rory was valiant. Naive, but valiant. Jasmine looked up at her, then at Rowan. "Thanks," she muttered to the latter.
She was quiet for a time after that, the few tears that had fallen freezing on her cheeks. She spoke quietly after a few minutes. "Ah dinn't know 'im very well... Hadn't met 'im 'fore the train... But... He was mah District Mate none-the-less... and, I know what his family'sa going through now... Been through it muhself. An' it ain't easy, an' I feel this sinking guilt in m'gut."
She was a coward for wanting fate or, more accurately, a mutt or another tribute to make her hard decision for her. So she forced out the next few words, "I... I'm'a coward. Ah feel all guilty fer... Ah didn't wanna have tuh choose b'tween y'all and them. 'N' now I dun gotta. 'Least with Odin. But... I didn't want 'im dead, but... I guess tha's muh naivete showin' through. Now, Ah can't keep from thinkin' 'bout Sorrel... All 'lone out there... An' wonderin' who er what killed Odin."
She was quiet for a brief time again, finding her boots and the waterskin very interesting, before muttering quietly. "Ah'll live for 'is memory yet..."

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
One day no one will have to face what we've faced, Rory thought. She'd probably be long dead before that. But she knew it was simple math. The Capitol could only exploit them for so long before Rebellion wasn't just something Panem whispered about. It'd be a reality. One day there will be no Hunger Games.
"I didn't know Rowan or Tank either before we all we reaped. But you and they are the closest things I have to family here. If one of those cannons would have been for Tank or Rowan or you, it'd be like losing a piece of me." Rory said and then finished drinking from her water skin.
"You're not a coward, Jasmine. None of us are. We've been put an impossible situation. Before too long we'll have some tough choices to make. I hope that Odin's death was quick and painless. And I hope we don't cross paths with Sorrell. But if we do and she's alone we should take her with us." Rory began. "Come on lets go have a real meal before the fun begins again."
Rory paused and looked between the girls, opening her backpack. "Rowan... looks real bananas."
She subtly pointed to the message given to them by their mentors. And when Rowan was close enough she whispered, "It's from Conrad and Apple. Jasmine got one from her people too. They're telling us to stick together."

"It sounds good to me." Rowan whispers to her district mate. "Jasmine's good people. " In a louder voice; she speaks. "Lets go eat. Then those of you who didn't get enough sleep could maybe catch a nap. Micha is putting up a tarp shelter to keep the wind and snow off a few people. We can start searching for bracelets after that."
She turns and looks to Rory; checking the girl's expression for any signs of displeasure. Its clear that she is following Rory; but making a recommendation. This girl is assertive.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
"She is good people," Rory confirmed, with a nod. She had chosen correctly in her alliance, save for Jace. Which brought her to the next idea of business.
Rory smiled when Rowan spoke. It sounded like a good plan. And Rory was awoken before she was able to get a full night's rest. She shook her head at the thought. Lallek. Treacherous little toad. She should have let Jasmine kill him. No... No... I should have killed him.
As they walked back Rory detailed a plan her and Jasmine had concocted. "We have to watch out for Micha and Pearl. Micha is a good person but she's still one of Jace's. And Pearl's a career. One of the kind-hearted careers but one nonetheless. We'll leave them what we were going to leave Jace and Lallek, minus the armor. We'll search for the map here. Then we should camp for the night. We'll leave them during third watch."

"It sounds good." Rowan nodded. "Tank and I could keep watch while you and Jasmine sleep now. I'll keep Pearl and Micha occupied with some chores... we do need to do a lot of things still. Tank and I can sleep on second watch tonight; so we'll be well rested when we move. "
Rowan checks her pack. " Hope the mentors send us some more gear. I could do with some light sources. A flood light or something would help keep watch."
Rowan follows Rory and Jasmine back to the camp site. Micha and Pearl had set up a lean to with a tarp that would keep the wind and snow off of about four people. "Klo; get in there with Rory and Jas." Rowan recommends; guiding the blind girl by the arm into the tarp lean to. Klo would immediately feel warmer without the constant wind buffeting her. "Rory; Jasmine; go get ready to sleep." Rowan recommends. She picks up Jasmine's bowl of stew and with Jasmine's approval begins serving a bowl to each tribute present; insisting that Rory and Jasmine get under the shelter of the tarp. Rowan brings the now - cooled pot of purified water around; filling skins as needed.
Once every one is served; the tribute from seven takes her own bowl of stew and skin and squats just outside the lean to; eating hurriedly and drinking well. She refills her skin; having drained it during her sentry and meal.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
"Sounds good." Rory replied. "Jasmine and I will take third watch. We'll wake you and Tank up two hours or so before dawn. Once we're away from Pearl and Micha, we'll eat and you and Tank can take a quick nap."
"We have at least two flashlights with batteries," Rory said, remembering the flashlight she had taken from Abigail's pack. With Jasmine's flashlight they had two. It was perfect, well as perfect as if could get for four people in the Hunger Games.
Rory eat her share of the stew and a few rolls. She savored the banana before giving the other to Jasmine. She went to sleep underneath the shelter Micha had made, giving her thanks to girl from District 9.
-Time Passes-
She slept for a few hours until someone woke her up. Rory felt rested. She felt good. "Okay, what did I miss?"

Klo feels herself being pulled along as Rowan explains Klo is going in the tarp with Jasmine and Rory. Kno nods solemnly and crashes to the floor. Then someone hands Klo a bowl that is steaming. Klo feels the bowl warm her hands and sniffs the food. Mmmm Soup! She brings the bowl to her mouth and begins to sip, feeling the occasional drop of soup on her pants suggesting she missed. Klo gulped the soup done and licked her lips when she was done. Klo felt her tin of jerky next to her and smiled, at least she wouldn't go hungry immediately when the others left. "I'm gonna have a nap.." Klo says and lays down next to her tin, arms wrapping around so no one steals it. She slowly drifts off to sleep.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine nodded to Rory, and fell quiet, thinking about her fallen district mate and solitary remaining district mate. She didn't, she realized, honestly think that the gamemakers were going to give them four bracelets, much less five. She drew a small breath and nodded to the plan. When did I become so jaded? she wondered. "I've gotta flashlight... Sponsors sent it along," she said, taking it out and offering it to Rowan. "Dun use it if'n yuh dun need tuh. Helps yuh tuh see, but also helps them tuh see yuh." She moved up to the camp again, lacking her previous gaiety, and took a serving of the meal she and Rory had helped to provide. She ate in silence, then unslung her bow and curled up under the tarp next to Klo. "If'n yuh see anything, Rowan... Feel free to use th'bow..." She gestured to the +1 bow she'd neglected to get rid of, keeping her +3 closer by. As Rory curled up beneath the tarp as well, Jasmine drifted off to sleep. Ready to advance time.

Rowan and Tank watch over the sleeping young women; keeping thier eyes trained on the flat; frozen ground of the Frozen Tundra. Rowan does use this time; instructing Pearl to continously boil water. Every hour; she adds in some of what Rory had brought home and passes out warm tea. It helps to fight the chill of this bitter cold area. Rowan tasks Micha with checking every one's faces for frostbite; and rotating a person in and out of the shelter every hour or so. If they nap during that hour; all the better; Rowan thought. They'll need to be aware tonight.
The two women slowly come to; feeling rested after a three hour nap. The sun is now high overhead; suggesting that it is noon time. The best part of the day to move here; most likely. It would be the warmest.
"Break down the shelter." Rowan tells Micha and Pearl; who are happy to comply. "We didn't see another tribute; or any mutts." She states to Rory and Jasmine. "We're ready to move out."
She hands a metal cup to Jasmine of steaming 'tea'; the cup borrowed from the canteen that Tank had found.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine slept. Not peacefully, her dreams were plagued by fallen comrades, and barely known friends. Fire and explosives claimed Femra. The arrows of the archer named by Klo claimed Odin, leaving Sorrel wandering blind and alone. She shivered despite shared body heat between her, Rory, and Klo. When Rowan woke her, she had small frozen droplets of sweat on her forehead. She unwound herself from the other two, stretching stiff limbs before accepting the steaming cup of 'tea' from Rowan. She cradled the cup between her hands, letting the heat from the liquid seep into her hands. She pretended it coursed through the rest of her, even it if didn't until after she took a couple deep sips. It wasn't entirely good tasting, but it was something. And the warmth it provided was undeniable. She stretched again, the tea helping immensely to loosen her up, though the little nap in the frozen tundra had left her stiff. And the dregs of the disastrous dream weren't helping. Jasmine nodded. No mutts or tributes, Sorrel's alone... and probably blind... like Klo... but undeserving... was good. She finished the tea and handed the cup back. She picked up her +3 bow, flexing her fingers around the grip before watching Micha and Pearl break down camp. "Yeah, tha's good. We can check th'snares at th'same time if'n we head in th'same direction," she said, mustering a little more gusto than she had before the nap. 6,3,3,2,3,9 (1 successes) 6,7,5,2,5,3 (0 successes)

Rory Noland: District Seven Female TributeRory hadn't dreamed. A small blessing. Femra and Odin's were already eating away at her. And the image of Cade's rolling off his shoulders was there every time she closed her eyes. But for the few hours she was sleeping she dreamed nothing. "If we aren't going the same way, Jasmine and I can run off, check the snares and then find the rest of the group." Rory added, before she glanced at Jasmine. "Jazz, you think I could maybe carry your other bow?" Rory had never shot a bow before. But she had never done a lot of things before now. And maybe shooting a bow would come in handy later on. Rory started packing up their camp. When she was done, Rory looked at Klo. "This is where we part ways, Klo." Rory paused, with a heavy sigh. "I know it might be hard to believe but... I am sorry. Not just about what happened to your eyes. I'm sorry about your alliance mates."Rory's expression hardens. The little general has her game face on again. "We need to go. We're losing daylight." Rory Noland rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Survival" 6,1,2,6,9,2 (1 successes) Rory Noland rolled 6 dice to "Wits+Survival" 8,5,5,9,9,5 (3 successes)

Rory has a fairly good idea where the rocks in the hint are - she had seen something darker when they had been checking the traps earlier. She leads the group - minus Klo and perhaps Tank - back towards where she and Jasmine had laid the snares. In checking the snares in passing; they note that the snares are still empty. However; within two hours of walking the group spots a rock with the signal of District 1 etched onto it. Another rock with the symbol of District 2 was two feet away. Lifting their heads; they see a series of rocks leading in a straight line to the south. This was in the hint for the first bracelet!

Tank was oddly torn between following the others and staying with the girl they were leaving behind. Granted, earlier she'd been trying to kill them all but now... it seemed strangely heartless abandoning Klo to die on her own.
"You don't have to do this... surely the Capital has some way of restoring your sight with all their technological advances?" Tank took Klo's hands in his own.
"You've gotten this far... what have you got to lose by trying to get the rest of the way home?"

Klo sat quietly, listening to Rory's apologies as the others trailed off. She thought she was alone when Tank started to talk. Klo wriggled uneasily in her spot as he finished. "I have too. I promised you guys I would die here. I don't think you guys would appreciate me tagging along. I just... I wish I could restart this. I wish I wasn't in the games, I wish I could see, I wish I was nicer to you guys and not some stupid girl... Maybe if I had been smart I would've tried to make friends with you and try to be in the alliance then terrorize you. I just wish I could take everything back. We made a deal. I'd tell you about Thrall and Femra and then you'd take me to the frozen tundra so I could die with somewhat dignity. It wouldn't be right if I went back on it and pleaded to join you guys. You have enough to worry about. I don't want to be added to the list of disadvantages. Go on. Join the others." Klo whispers

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
The sight of empty snares was disappointing. Though in less than a day Rory shouldn't have expected any more than that. She sighed as her eyes scanned the barren land.
Again, quietly assuming the role of leader, Rory guided her group to where the first hint of where the bracelets were. Maybe. The Gamemakers could be toying with them. It wasn't unheard of and Rory was trying to make a statement with the way she played the game. She didn't know if she was the kind of person the Capitol wanted as a victor.
She tried to imitate the way Jasmine carried herself with her spare bow on sling over one shoulder. She wasn't a hunter. She didn't know how to carry a bow, let alone shot one. But she wanted something else that made her feel like she could stay far away from the fight. Plus two bows are better than one.
"If we make it out alive, you should teach me how to actually shoot one of these things," Rory told Jasmine in passing.
Then she saw the first rock. And then the second.
"Guys! Look!" Rory had to catch herself from being too loud. "They're marking the way. It's a hint. We're on the right path."
Rory had never shot a bow before. But she had never done a lot of things before now. And maybe shooting a bow would come in handy later on.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine gave up her spare bow to Rory. She shivered in the cold, but moved along with the group, and even managed a small smile toward Rory when asked to teach her how to shoot properly. Before the training center, Jasmine'd never even held a bow.
She was a little disappointed by the empty snares, but it had been only a couple hours. And when they checked them later, she felt certain they'd find something there.
"Sure... Not sure how much help I'll be... 'Fore th'trainin' center, Ah'd never even seen a bow." Jasmine said. As her eyes took on the stones that Rory pointed out. Excitement growing in her and banishing the thoughts of Sorrel and Odin for the moment. She walks faster, losing her limp as her long legs carry her through the frosted land. Before long she's moving along at a moderate jog, following the stones.
"I think yer right, Rory." She can practically feel the container of the map as she looks for the next stone in the chain, moving after it.

"Great. We could use some help on ranged attacks." Rowan spoke from her position at the back of the formation. She held her axe in her hand and was bringing up the rear (and perhaps guarding them from attacks from behind). Micha only shivered; rubbing her arms. She walks up alongside Rory as she points out the rocks, following them up to the 12th District. Pearl hangs back; looking back where Tank and Klo remain. The young women note that the last rock is blank. The rock is about the size of a dinner plate; grey and cold. Some snow has fallen over it and it looks well rooted in the ground.
"Oh. Are we supposed to dig?" Micha wonders; pointing out towards a blank rock. "Or lift this blank rock?"

"I'll do my best but if you get stuck in the butt with one of my arrows, sorry in advance." Rory looked between Micha and the blank stone for a moment. "Don't touch anything yet. Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine smiled at Rory. She wish she had as much confidence in herself as a teacher as Rory did. Jasmine felt confident in putting an arrow down range and having it hit its target, and even hitting specific spots on a target, but less so in passing such knowledge along to others. What she did came naturally... unlike figuring out the stone. She stared, and moved around it, and stared some more, and moved, then, in a moment of brilliant inspiration, she took an arrow out and poked the blank stone. Likely all to little effect. She was entirely stumped. "Staring at Rock" 5 (0 successes) "Staring at Snow" 1 (0 successes) "Uh...uhm... hmm... hrm... eeeerrrrrmmmm." Making noises always helped Jasmine's brothers think and search. It didn't work so well for her. "I dun get it."

"Neither do I." Pearl confided quietly to Jasmine as she studied the rocks. "I've never seen a rock this big." Pebbles on the beach were much more to her liking. So was the ocean. Pearl gave a small sigh as she recalled home. It had been a mistake to start thinking about home, she chided herself. Pearl cleared her throat and limped around the rocks.
As Rory looked down at the rocks however; she noted a small imperfection in one of the signals- a depression on the right side of the district 7 symbol. The district four symbol had a depression on the left... Within a few moments of leaning down and looking at the rock face; Rory was quite sure that pressing the rocks would affect a spring. Some sort of mechanism - perhaps to open the rock and reveal their trophy. Or something terrible.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
"There's something on the District 4 and District 7 rocks." Rory said to the others. The message they had received came to mind again. Beware of District 4 and 9. Could it have been the a warning for this as well? Rory didn't know.
"It's a button or a something. I'm pretty sure that it activates something. The one for District 7 is on the right side. And the one for District 4 is on the left."
She looked around at her alliance. Jasmine was limping. Rowan had taken a nasty scratch to her face. It was Rory's turn to bleed for her alliance. "I'll activate the District 7 stone."

Jasmine nodded. She'd looked right past it. This was why she followed Rory. She'd noticed a button when the rest of them had been oblivious. Of course, it would be right up the GameMaker's alley to have the buttons trigger an explosion, or release a mutt, or some other horrible thing.
Jasmine couldn't let her friend take the sole risk on that. "Yuh said left side?" She limped back to the District 4 stone. She bent low and stared at the stone again. It took a moment, but she found the depression that she assumed was the button.
"A'ight! Found it. Push it at the same time?"
