Rory was too honorable for her own good, and not subversive enough to guard her people. The way watches were split, Lallek could potentially leave here with a third of her force. You should have put Tank in the third watch. Micha would almost certainly defect and come with them. Rowan was looking to be a potential as well. She at least understood their motives Pearl would stay here though.
So long as she was with Rory, Pearl couldn't possibly be safer. There wasn't a malicious bone in Rory's body, and Tank and Jasmine followed her lead.
Scrawling out a note Lallek passes it to Jace. "I'll get up early to speak with Rowan and Micha. If I can flip them both, we can leave here well equipped regardless of what Rory tries to pull. Burn these notes before bed." Once Jace has had a moment to read over the note, Lallek unhooks his throwing knives and hands them to Jace. He would be safe with Rory after all.
Lallek approaches his new watch partner and hands her a note. "We can bicker in the morning, but these people need sleep. You can end the argument if you want too. Why don't we take our positions?" He would be calm, rational, and do what was best for the team.

Rowan frowned nearly as soon as Jace began to speak. She crossed her arms and glanced towards Rory; shaking her head.
"Run stupid into danger." She repeated, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "It was stupid to rescue you; Micha. We should have let you die with your district mate; according to your district mate." The brunnette gives Jace a look that is withering. Rowan hadn't enjoyed the fight; hadn't enjoyed being raked across the face by the crows for someone who wasn't even her district mate. But she'd stuck by her mates.
"You think we're stupid. You think we're too loyal. But you want to bed down with us?" She smiles and it doesn't reach her eyes.
"We could cook up this crow and you can head out tonight if we don't measure up to your standards, Jace. You want patching up; patch yourself up." The District seven declared. "District seven already patched up your partner. District seven already decapitated Cade. Jasmine shot Emerald and Diamond. Rory and Jas made sure the runners were dead. I think District seven is damned tired."
The brunnette turns and walks away from Jace; shaking her head. She shoots Lallek a questioning look. She stares at him for a beat; before turning away from him. The district seven moved over towards the fire. She adjusted her bag for a beat; declaring:
"I'll take watch with Jace. If he stays."
Micha frowned after Rowan.
"Thats not fair. Jace was hurt badly by Emily."
Rowan glanced towards Micha; but didn't argue. Rowan did not look towards Jace.
Her expression still appears drowsy; her forehead rising with a fresh bruise. She'll be a patchwork quilt of colors come the morning. The girl yawned; gingerly touching the back of her head with a frown. She recovered her bag from Pearl; glancing within it.
"No blankets." She declared sadly. "I hope it doesn't get too cold."
Already the temperature had dipped into the low fifties. Those who had broken into a sweat were beginning to feel a chill.
Pearl had already sat down by the fire; rubbing her eyes.
"Should we cook the chicken and put out the fire; or keep it? It might attract more..."

As the debate moved back and forth between the two emerging factions that seemed to be Jace and Lallek vs everyone else, Tank merely sat on the nearest rock and watched the proceedings unfold. His attention only wandered twice - to hand Rowan his water-skin and to take it back again from her once it was full.
Killing Klo here and now didn't really feel right to him, but he raised no protest at the girl's wish to die alone herself if that was that she wanted. Tank was frankly starting to feel the fatigue of the lengthy exertion they had just been through, and he was too tired to think. It took a few minutes before he recalled the water-skin in his hands at Rowan's prompting, and he drank heavily from it.
Tank opened his mouth to speak and promptly broke into a coughing fit, taking another drink after to clear his throat.
"I'm tired... gonna sleep."
Tank hefted his backpack up and wandered back into the clearing where he'd tended to Lallek's wounds, a momentary spark of inspiration prompting him to go change into his thermal clothes to fight off the night's chill that was making him more sluggish.

As Tank wanders off, Lallek just shakes his head. Jace was being to crass for their own good. Arguing with these people would get them no where except stuck alone without allies. Better too let them vent that fan the flames.
Maybe Jace would have been the better mute.
Micha first. Time to earn some points there. "Thermal jacket in the shelter back there. Go put it on. You'll be warm." Rather than hand her the note, Lallek merely shows her. He had plenty of paper but didn't want to waste it.
Rapidly writing another note, Lallek holds it out for Rowan to read. "I'm sure Jace is speaking out of stress not any ingratitude. Why not join Rory and I? It seems odd that you all trust me the least, yet put the fewest guards on me." Controlling the situation was getting tougher and tougher. These people were so crass that keeping them from being totally impulsive was giving Lallek a headache. Regardless, a little reminder of who was watching him was the best he could do.
Gesturing to Rory and then to the shelter Lallek begins to walk back that way, notebook in hand. He flashes the word "Sleep" to Jace as he makes his way towards the shelter. Hopefully Rory and Rowan would follow.

Jace Colton
"The only person who needs to understand why I did what I did actually does." He waved it away and glared right back. She wasn't big enough to scare him.
He had three older siblings, two of which weighed thirty to fifty pounds more than he did, and one of which was beyond smarter than anyone he'd ever known. She'd have to do better than a creepy smile and a few nasty words.
There's a short look to Micha as he takes Lallek's knives. "I have a big coat, and I don't mind sharing body heat. Wouldn't be the first time I bedded down with someone to keep warm. Hopefully it won't be the last."
At Lallek's signal, he nods. Sleep would be good. Finish off his water-skin and then pass out for a few hours until his own watch. He rubbed his face, and tried to fight back frustrated tears.
Jan would have been so much better at all of this.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
Unlike Jace, Rory passes Lallek’s note around for anyone and everyone to see. The part of about bickering is her favorite. There will be no secrets in her alliance, no back alley deals, no shadow treaties. She is determined to win these games are the merits of her character or die defending them.
When Jace speaks Rory’s eyes narrow. She tries to take a few deep breaths to calm herself but Jace’s words course through her veins like hot lead. She’s usually so controlled, so friendly, so worried about if people liked her. His words fill her up until the spill over.
“THAT’S IT! I HAVE HAD IT!” Rory’s shouts before she remembers herself, her voice straining as she tries to keep her volume down. “You two are really good at the double speak, the only problem is you can’t get on the same page. Lallek says he trusts me, you say we can’t pack your bags. Oh and my favorite part where you demand that we heal you. Not of it makes me want to trust you or Lallek’s sudden willingness to corporate… Can I ask you an honest question: when did ‘I want to survive’ translate into ‘Let’s all join the monster squad?’ If you win Jace you should look into becoming a Peacekeeper. They could use people like you, I hear. ‘Sorry about your cousin, Micha. But my survival is paramount to everything, even my sense of morality.’ Yup, great selling point. Anyone who joins you is a bigger fool than you take me to be.”
Rory shaking when she takes a breath, trying to not to hyperventilate or worse yet slap the hell out of Jace. She isn’t going to do that. It’s bad enough he had gotten her to yell. Rory never liked the sound of her voice when she was shouting.
“I think we should split up the districts during the watch.”Rory says her voice a tough less angry; claimer. “Tank’ll switch with Rowan. Rowan’ll take second watch with Jazz and Jace. Tank’ll take third watch. And come the morning we will pack your bags and send you on your way. And if you don’t like it, you could always leave now. But that is something I won’t be backing down from. Sorry, Jace. You start being rude and ungrateful and my sense of diplomacy just goes right out of the window. So let’s try this again, shall we?”

Tank emerged from the clearing dressed in all his thermal wear just in time to hear the tale-end of Rory's outburst.
"Good... I can sleep longer..." The gentle giant headed towards the fire, yawning heavily.

Jace Colton
He stopped short, turning to look over his shoulder. "You have no idea what you're talking about. Abby wasn't her cousin. Tobias--my friend--is. And Micha understands the importance of familial promises in District 9. I made a promise to the person who was sparked into existence in the same instant that I was. The person who--in our belief--is the other half of my soul. I intend to keep it. That's all you need to understand."
He really didn't need this. "As I said: I don't need your approval. No idea what makes you think I do. And if you're packing our bags?
"We're packing your's. You want to play the 'fair and trust' game? Fine. Put your money where your mouth is.
"As it stands? I'm going to bed. I'm done arguing."

"No." Rowan shakes her head at the note. "And I never said anything about distrusting you more. Who has?" She glances questioningly around the camp.
Rowan glances towards Jace for a long beat. She tilts her head as she surveys him; her eyes dropping to his wounded foot. She evaluates his bloodied shirt in silence. "No, you're not touching my bag." She states calmly. "Your partner was the one stating you deserve half the loot for ending up a pincushion from a twelve year old girl. I disagree." At Rory's declaration of watch changes; Rowan inclines her head.
"Wake me up when its my turn." The brunnette agrees with her district mate; reaching into her pack. She dons her white undershirt over her shirt and unpacks her fleece jacket. Carrying pack on her back and jacket in hand; she climbs up onto a low branch of a tree; about four feet off of the ground. Rowan uses the jacket to bind her torso to the trunk and leans back; trying to rest.
Surveying the others reveals that Pearl has already slumped beside the still - burning fire; fast asleep on the ground.
"That sounds nice, Jace." Micha has laid the dead crow within the water pot; digressing. "Plucking this thing is going to be horrible. Does any one have a knife? I'll just skin it."
She doesn't look at Rory. Beads of sweat line her brow.

Rolling his eyes in irritation, Lallek gestures for Rory to follow him. For a moment he considers how much easier this would be if she had been killed by the careers. The idea of killing her during watch comes up, but he doubts that it would be possible. Too big of a risk though. He wasn't skilled enough for a fist fight with Rory and the knife hidden inside his book wouldn't be enough to drop her in one hit. Besides, someone had to watch Pearl for him.
Rubbing his temple, Lallek tries to brush off Jace. His contributions were making the situation worse and worse every time he opened his mouth.
Rowan would need an honest explanation if he was going to have any chance of bringing her over. That would be his biggest challenge. Regardless, Lallek makes his way to fire and begins to douse it with dirt and rocks. That Pearl would have nothing to ask about now. Decision made. As for Micha, Lallek just shakes his head. They could eat at dawn.
Never looking at her, never thinking about the pain, Lallek takes his seat and begins writing a note for Rory. Emotions were her weak point, and she resented these games. She resent being good at them and shared the feelings for people who were likewise good. The best thing to say was the one thing she be ashamed of. "You're brave." If she comes near him, he will offer it to her to read.

He goes to sit by Micha, ignoring the rest of it for now. The sooner morning came, the better. "I'll pluck it later. I'm good at that." Wouldn't be the first time he did that sort of thing.
He'd need to change his clothes too, and he frowned down at his boot. That wasn't good. At all. He'd need to try and fix it. Or manage to take a pair off one of the Careers. Cade's might fit. Silver was too big....
His own bag is situated--after he changes his shirt into a thermal shirt--in the crisscross of his legs as he waited for Micha to get situated for bedding down.
Risky, but he could offer that. He might be a bit of a monster now, but he could offer that much.
He didn't need their approval, and he meant that. He only needed Jan's.... ...And he was more terrified about losing it than he was about dying here, but they didn't need to know that.
No one did.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine continued to wipe the blood from Rory's hands, listening to her declarations and Jace's rebuttals. Jasmine's opinion of Jace steadily fell through the conversation. Yes, they deserved a portion of the gear from the careers, though she hardly thought they deserved to take their pick, or half the gear. Not even really an even split. But she didn't have much of anything constructive to add to the conversation, so... she simply didn't.
After a period of time, she declared, to herself, that Rory's hands were clean enough, even if there were spatter still speckling her. She stepped back, moved to the fire and pot of water and refilled her waterskin. She was agreeable to the watch arrangements, even if she worried for Rory though. She didn't trust Lallek, or even Jace that much. She'd not really felt he was on board with their alliance even in the lunchroom when she'd first met him and the rest of the group. And Femra, she thought, pausing for a moment. He's talking like he's the only one with a family. No, Jace intended, from the get-go, for a partnership rather than an alliance. He still wanted the partnership.
Promises... She shook her head. He made a promise to his soulmate and considered it above all of them. So, that made him better than the rest? No... She looked to Lallek. What was he up to? Jasmine didn't believe he was being quite as calm as he presented with his partner seemed to break down.
She listened, read Lallek's note when Rory passed it to her and murmured: "Be careful..." and when they split apart, she unslung her bow, dug her winter jacket out of her pack and draped it over Pearl as Lallek extinguished the flames near the girl. She pulled the jacket she started with close around her shoulders, sitting next to Pearl, and pulled her knees up to her chest. She held her bow and hugged her knees, setting her forehead against them.
Who knows how much sleep she'd actually get that night, but she intended to get some solid rest between then and her watch. It had been a long day... stressful and painful, both physically and emotionally. She'd lost a friend, and sacrificed a portion of herself. Tomorrow would be a new day, with new challenges.
Challenges she'd meet then. She drifted off into an uneasy sleep with some of her Mentor's advice on her mind.

As the tributes not on watch settle down for sleep, the Forrest continued to whisper with the sounds of nocturnal activity. Various animals- you hoped they were just animals - could be heard moving around the camp ground. What seemed like forever into the watch; the two tributes hear something near the lake. Without fire; or having any illumination out; they can not determine what it is. Perhaps just the rocks settling; or something else... It didn't seem to be immediately near the alliance.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute What is he like five? Rory asks herself, shaking her head. She looks up at Jace and calling to him as he walks away. “When I shook your hand and offered to create an alliance that was me putting my money where my mouth is. That was me trusting you. That was me hoping you didn't spit in the face of this alliance on Day 2. And thus far, I've given you no reason to think I'll betray you or be less than fair. So good night. I'll let Lallek wake you up for your watch.” She has had enough of Jace. He speaks as if he's the only one of them who has someone that cares for them back home. Jace has a big family. Rory only has her dad. Sure there is her cousins and uncles. But in reality it is just her and her father, always has been. And then there is Gable. The pretty boy she didn't think would have paid her any attention at all. But there'd be no future with them together now. Even if she comes back, her hands are stained with blood. There'd be no coming back from that. So no marriage, no babies. Rory, as maternal and loving as she is, couldn't do it. The Capitol had won in that regard. Rory wouldn't want to put herself through losing a child, or even Gable in the next three years. Love is overrated. Look at Jace. He loves his brother so fiercely that he's willing to become a monster. Soul Mates... Pfft... You can keep it, Jace.Frowning, she takes her to post. She doesn't sit. Her axe is out, hanging causally at her side. She takes Lallek's note and she reads it. Rory chuckles, bitterly and then crumples it up before she tosses it away. “Don't forgot morally upright and trustworthy... Oh, and pretty. Can't forget pretty.”She doesn't trust Lallek. So why would she care what he thought? Brave? Someone has to be. Because all she sees from Jace and Lallek is fear. Fear of losing, fear of showing weakness, fear of dying. Rory doesn't care about any of these things. She doesn't even fear death. Just dishonor and losing herself to the kill. She'd make herself feel everything. She'd hate herself for every future she stuffed out. She'd cry for everyone that died here. Ferma. Luci. Emerald. Diamond. Cade. Even Silver. Her'd drive herself mad with guilt before she would cut herself off from the grief. A weakness, yes. But Rory would rather be like her, then like Jace and Lallek. Her participation in the games is to show the Capitol that they can force us into the games, force us to kill, but they cannot take away that spark of compassion that makes us human. Win or lose, Rory would show them. Death before dishonor. Victory without losing her humanity. Even if Lallek or Jace or Thrall or Kale or anyone else killed her, Rory knows she's already won in a way. The Capitol won't dehumanize her. She'd die free, she'd die still her. Even if they forget me, this'll just be the beginning. Jace... Lallek... they don't understand that this is bigger than them. She smiles despite herself. Rebellion. The Rebel Tribute. The Girl Who Volunteered. If Rory gave a crap about sponsorship she might have kicked herself for not playing up that angle. But as it is, she can care less. Let Jace and Lallek--- What was that? Rory's eyes catch movement by the lake and she ducks low, cursing softly to herself. "Psst... Lallek..."Rory Noland rolled 6 dice to "Perception Check" 8,2,10,1,7,7,4 (2 successes)

Lallek could think of a few words that could have been added to the list. Impulsive, self-righteous, discourteous, and a slew of other words speaking to her mental stability. Regardless, he smiles at her and his body convulses in what would have been a laugh had their been any noise. Rory was so blind she couldn't see anything other than what she wanted too. 2012-06-17 22:14:53 Lallek Aldren rolled 4 dice to "Perception" 10,3,1,10,6,6 (2 successes) Then there was a noise by the water and Lallek's head snaps towards the lake. There was something out their, either a mutation or a wildlife. Either way, Lallek certainly didn't want to disturb it. Rory dropping low makes his hand instinctively dart out and grab her wrist. No doubt she would take the action as some physical attack, but he didn't care. Drawing attention to them was not smart. If the noise came closer, they could rally the troops, but for now, Lallek just shakes his head at Rory and freezes in place. 2012-06-17 22:31:14 Lallek Aldren rolled 7 dice to "Dex+Stealth" 3,1,3,5,6,9,6 (1 successes)

Klo nods at Rory's words. "As you wish." Klo whispers. Klo is partially uncomfortable with the idea but in order for them to send her enroute to the Frozen Tundra in the morning, she must obey their wishes. Klo grabs her backpack and cattle prod protectively and slides her backpack on and holds her cattle prod stiffly. She doesn't need anyone stealing her stuff in the middle of the night. Her lips are parched and the setting cold makes her shiver. "Before you tie my up, I would like to ask if I could put some layers on and maybe have a drink of water?" Klo asks politely and licks her lip as she imagines drinking the cool water. She hadn't drank anything in days, let alone eat. She rubs her stomach as she hears it grumble. She looks up to await Rory's answer.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female TributeRory nods at Klo's words. After she helps Klo into extra layers, she opens her water skin to give Klo the water she needs. Yes, she'd be dead soon. But for now Rory would treat her prisoner well enough. "Drink up." Before the fire snuffs out for the night, Rory fills her water skin and drinks. The water is warm but she needs it. Rory Noland rolled 7 dice to "Tying Klo Up" 3,3,1,8,5,6,6 (1 successes) "Sleep as well as you can, Klo."Cocking her head at the side, Rory shoots Lallek a confused look. He's laughing at me. She almost smiles, unsure why exactly. Rory tenses at Lallek's touch. For a moment she thinks that this is his move. He'd kill her and all of her people. Her hand convulses around her axe handle. She takes a breath and looks at Lallek. He'd have to look her in the eyes if he is going to kill her. In her eyes there's a flash of surprise. Lallek's shaking his head. Is he warning her? Telling her not to investigate? Maybe she is wrong about Lallek... Somehow though Rory doubts it. She nods and falls silent. Rory Noland rolled 3 dice to "Staying Quiet" 8,6,3 (1 successes)

Lallek feels the tension. Rory was flexing on her ax and for a moment his free hand begins to edge toward his boot. Once she registers his intent, however, Lallek releases her arm.
"Animal or mutation, attention is bad." This note is never take out of the book, Lallek simply shows it to Rory.
Pulling over his backpack, he pulls out a few blackberries and begins to eat them. He takes a long drink from his canteen as well. Hunger and thirst had been kept at bay for a long time, but now that he could relax it seemed best to take advantage of the opportunity. Between the sweetness of the sweetness of the berries and the cool water, Lallek feels more at peace than he has all day. There is still a tension in his body that came from being in the Games, but only the creature at the water concerns him. Rory wouldn't attack him and Klo was contained. He lets out a long sigh.
As he pulls out another handful of berries, Lallek offers a few to Rory. Why not share the food? They had plenty from the careers no doubt and Rory would give he and Jace the share they had earned. Even if she didn't, Rachel still had the crow.
Rachel.....The stress finds it's way back into his mind. Lallek was going to have to hunt her down tomorrow. He would have to kill his districtmate.

As Rory sees Lallek offer a note; a cloud passes over the moon. She can not decipher it. Perhaps Lallek understands the confusion on her face as misunderstanding - perhaps some light would be needed...
Meanwhile; the two listen for several more moments. The sounds cease and soon; all you hear is the melodious sound of lapping waves of the lake.

Klo sips the water from the skin and wipes her face once done. "Thanks." Klo whispers. She was still hungry but hopefully the water could keep herself okay until morning. Klo clutched her bag and cattle prod close as Rory tied her up, she didn't need anyone stealing her things in the night. Once tied up she listened for the noise at the lake. It ceased and an eery silence filled its place. "Guys, not trying to be a backseat driver but this silence is giving me vibes. Keep your eyes open. If its a mutation, The game makers wouldn't release a mutation but then quickly take it out of the arena so keep yourself alert. If it is a mutation, its waiting for an opportunity... Despite being athletic, Klo was wise. She knew not to lower her guard. Keep it high at all times. "I'm going to sleep now. If anything happens, wake me up. And if there is an attack, please untie me, I don't want to be killed my a mutation." Klo whispers and curls up into a ball against the soft earth surface. She drifts into dreamland, allowing her soft breaths to block out everything else.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
Rory eyes strain in the dark to see the note. She can't make it out. But she assumes that Lallek is telling her that whatever is by the lake is bad.
Rory doesn't relax but she doesn't grow less tense as time goes on. She doubts she'll be able to relax even when she sleeps.
She mirrors Lallek and takes a piece of Jerky from a tin in her pack. She breaks the piece in half and exchanges a few berries with Lallek, but only after she see him eat the berries. When Klo speaks, Rory nods, fighting the urge to tell her to shut up.
"Shift change." Rory whispers to Lallek, trusting him to wake up his partner, Jace. Rory had told the boy she wouldn't wake him up. Rory wouldn't want Jace looming over her in dark. So why would she do the same to him?
Rory walks over to Rowan, first and puts her hand on Rowan's shoulder.
"Your turn," she says to her district mate. She makes sure that Rowan is awake before moving onto Jasmine. "Jasmine... You're up."

His meal ruined by thoughts of Rachel, Lallek closes his backpack and finishes munching on his berries.
Rory calling shift change is a relief and Lallek nods in agreement. He was tired and sleep seemed welcome right now. It certainly wasn't the beach he was so fond of, but the arena's outdoor environment was more akin to home than was the alien beds tributes were put in back in the training center.
Raising from his post, Lallek moves near Jace and places his knives back on. He may have taken watch unarmed, but he wasn't about to sleep with a single knife in his boot. Once rearmed and reassured, he shakes Jace. It is neither gentle nor rough. He couldn't speak the way Rory did, but his method certainly worked.

Rowan asleep in her tree awakens at the touch. She clambors down; brushing pine needles and bark from her clothing. The girl takes a hearty drink from her water skin; following Rory over to where Jasmine is sleeping.
"How was watch?" The fellow district seven whispers. She turns away from Rory; checking where Tank was snoring. After ensuring that he was still breathing; she remarks. "Took me awhile to fall asleep. Her eyes then move over to Jace and Micha. Her gaze is thoughtful.

It felt like he'd just gone to sleep, though when Lallek shook him he woke not groggily. He'd always been a little more alert than most people, and he looks up at his ally a bit blearily for a moment before he pulls himself away from Micha, making an effort to not wake her up.
He makes a point to leave her with the coat.
"Get some rest." It doesn't need to be said, even as he looks at the other boy for a long moment. "...Sorry. For...right. The way I was earlier. Hurt and way tired--and it's an explanation. Not an excuse. I'll take a page out of your book from now on."
He grins a little at his own joke. "Stay warm."
With that, he let's Lallek lay down to sleep and takes his post.

Before Lallek can give a silent speech to Jace about the importance of tact, his partner circumvents him. The relief is written across Lallek's face quite clearly.
Before Jace can walk off, Lallek gently taps the side of his head with his index finger, then folds his hands together as if to say please.
With his silent request given, Lallek slides down where Jace had just been laying with Micha. It was odd. He hadn't slept alongside another person since he was just a child, let alone for warmth. Here was as close to alone as he would. Next to the little District 9 girl, was the most private moment that the District 4 boy was given.
For the first time, tears start welling up. Thoughts of Pearl and Amy seem to float around in his head clawing at him. The looks of the tributes that had died today. Silver's expression when he fell. Emily when Jace cut her throat. Then came the shouting and the noise. Silent tears roll freely for the first time as the Two Lallek's went toe-to-toe. The Hunter was their arguing why everything was necessary. There was a reason to kill Rachel, a reason to kill everyone except Pearl. He was here for her. Still, the Child was there too, begging for it to stop. Begging him to do like Nettle and hide somewhere. To outlast. Even as Lallek fell into grudging sleep they warred against each other and bad dreams followed soon after.
