Felix swore under his breath. He quickly slung his bow back across his back and shoved the arrow back in his quiver, picking up his crutches and pushing off the pillar he had been hiding behind. The three girls in front of him were moving fast, and he didn’t think he could catch up to them. But he didn’t care what he thought, he cared what he could do.
This kill wasn’t going to escape him. This step closer to home.
Felix tired to follow Coral and Sassinak, knowing they were following Savannah. When he heard Sassinak shout, he swore again. He wondered if it was worth it.
“Stop her!” He called to Coral and Sassinak, “Stop her from running! She had two water skins. She has a partner!” Felix pushed off the ground with his crutches and his good leg. He even had a few moments of splitting pain when he accidentally put weight on his bad leg to run.

"I see her!" Sassinak assures Felix from somewhere up ahead. Felix can hear the underbrush crashing as he hurries after the girls. He comes within sight of Sassinak as she looses her arrow. Savannah jerks and falls forward, motionless. Sassinak notches another arrow and motions for Felix and Coral to move in. Glancing around, the animals of the city have quieted. FelixIt’s too late. Felix slows down when he hears Savannah thunk to the ground. His alliance mates are good, he’d made a good choice in recruiting them. And in staying with them now. He felt his stomach turn as he approaches the girl on the ground. She’s still alive. Still breathing, barely. He exhales deeply. “I’m so sorry.” Felix says, his voice shakey. He takes off his back pack, pulling out his ‘sheathed’ axe. He holds the hilt tightly, and he lifts it up to strike. The axe hits the earth beside Savannah as Felix lets out a choked sob. He can’t do it. He just can’t. He missed, was it on purpose? Felix doesn’t know. His entire body shakes, and it doesn’t help that he’s unsteady on his braced bad leg. He can tell that the girl is in pain. It pains him. “You’re going to a better place. I’ll meet you there. I’m sorry. I’m-” The axe falls onto the girl’s neck as Felix, without knowing, raises and drops the blade between her head and her torso. “So sorry...”Felix drops to the ground, drops the axe, and shakes horribly. A hand closes over Felix's shoulder. Its Sassinak. She is silent, staring down at the dead girl's body. There is a world of difference between watching this unfold on a television screen and carrying it out. Coral moves up beside Felix and places a hand on his arm for a moment. Then she crouches down next to the girl, turning over her body. Coral recovers Sassinak's arrows and hands them back to Sassinak. Sassinak blinks at them for a moment, shocked at the violence that she had caused. That they had caused. Sassinak accepts the arrows and drops them back in her quiver.
"We..." Sassinak swallows, losing her train of thought. Coral crouches on the ground, staring at the girls' body. She strips off the sword. the knife, the two water skins and the girls' pack. She consolidates the items into Savannah's pack to sort through later. That done, she looks at Felix and Sassinak.

Felix
Being sick would be bad; he had to keep down the little food that he got. But the nausea that overcomes Felix as he replays what happened in his mind is slightly unbearable. He puts his hand over Sassinak’s as she speaks, and then when Coral started taking things, Felix lets out another shaky breath.
He just killed someone. He killed her and she didn’t even have time to fight back. Felix lets out a choked cough to mar the sound of his sob, before he stands again. He wipes the bloodied axe on the ground before putting it back in his pack, blade first. Then he adjusts it on his back so that the handle won’t be too uncomfortable, before he picks up his crutches.
“I don’t want to be here,” Felix says darkly, “When they come and take her away.” He turns to leave. “Not everyone can have the send off we gave Jasper.” Felix swallow the lump in his throat.
“Let’s go back to Cotton and Lacey. And hope that whoever the second waterskin was for doesn’t find us.” Felix’s pained and obviously devastated expression and tones would make the watchers on the television realise how much this had hurt him.
They don’t care, Felix knows. They don’t care that a boy of seventeen and his two friends just murdered another child.
It's just a game to them.

Coral turns in place, studying the trees around them. She nods silently as Felix speaks, beginning to walk towards the safety of the watch tower. Sassinak stays in step with Felix's slower gait. Sassinak is breathing quickly, her throat knotted up with emotion. She says nothing. She doesn't know what to say. They had just killed and robbed another child.
[solor=springgreen]"For our survival." Sassinak whispers, barely audible. She gives Felix an anguished look, seeking his thoughts. All around them, the sounds return. A bird takes wing over head, streaking the sky with indigo.
BOOM!
Sassinak winces as Savannah's cannon sounds. She takes Felix's arm, glancing around the trees warily as they walked.

Felix
The cannon startles Felix. He had forgotten about them. And everyone would be able to hear it. Including whoever Savannah had allied with. Felix steadies himself, breathing hard and fast. He feels nervous, scared, guilty and horrified. He had just killed someone. He had KILLED someone.
Felix picked up the pace, feeling Sassinak on his arm. “Not just for survival. To get home.” Felix tells Sassinak, but he’s telling himself, reassuring himself more than her.
He doesn’t want to be out here anymore. He wants to go back inside. Get away from things. He doesn’t want to be out here. He wants to be inside.
There’s some odd feeling in his head, in his stomach, his chest. He can’t put a finger on what the sensation is, exactly. But it’s not nice.
“Home.” His family had seen him, Sassinak and Coral murder and rob someone. An innocent someone. A someone who hadn’t been able to fight back. Felix shakes his head. He wants to get inside.

"Thats what its about." Sassinak whispered. "Rory and Tank and Conrad will know what to do." They had killed in order to survive - and they had gotten home. It was thier skill with sending gifts that district seven was able to have sight and Sasinak's terminals for fighting.
Coral passes Cotton on the bank, boiling water. "Wrap it up." She advises him. "We just chased down Savannah. She may have had friends." Cotton picks up the pot and kicks dirt over the fire. He follows the group inside, where the door had been hanging open. Lacey has been sitting by the television screens. That blank look she gives Felix, Coral and Sassinak shows that she has watched every thing.
Lacey brings out her medical kit and busies herself with sanitizing her scarred and ruined face while Cotton locks the door. Cotton paces underneath the skylight, tense and unhappy.

Felix
Inside, Felix doesn’t feel as comforted as he thought he would be. Lacey and Cotton seem tense, and Felix doesn’t know what to do about it. If there was mistrust before, Felix wonders if the other two knowing what Felix and the two girls were capable of didn’t make them feel any more at ease about the whole situation. Felix lets out a shaky breath.
“You can’t hate me as much as I hate myself right now.” He says finally, before turning to Sassinak. “Distract me. Let me clean your arm up.” He says holding her good hand for a second, before waiting for her to detach her terminal.

"Its... " Lacey gestures to the screen. Onscreen, Eclypse and Brass are arriving at the horn in preparation for their face off- three hours early. "Today is going to see a lot of..." Lacey searches for the word. "...unexpected consequences. I'll turn off the screen. I don't think you'd want to watch your former allies." True to her word, that screen goes blank. Lacey glances over towards Cotton, mentioning quietly. "The violence makes him nervous." Sassinak does as she is bed, dropping her bow arm and bow on top of her pack. Her arm looks all right at first - but then Felix notices that her skin is warm to the touch, almost hot. Looking at her face, a bead of sweat forms at her brow. The first signs of an infection. Looking back at the arm, Felix is told that there is a pinkness to the edge of her wounds. "I'm going to sit down." Sassinak slides down to a seated position. She glances over to the black screen. "At least they won't have this feeling in their stomachs." Sassinak stated quietly. "I feel sick. I can't get her head out of my mind."
"Its what we had to do. " Coral sits next to Sassinak, holding her good hand. She brushes a strand of hair from her face, then looks more closely at Sassinak. She places a palm against Sassinak's forehead. "How long have you felt like this?" "Oh, you're skin so cold." Sassinak sighs happily with relief. "Like what?" "Sick to your stomach." "Since we saw Lacey." Sassinak stated, sounding tired. Coral leans forward, speaking quietly with Felix. " I think thats a good sign. She hasn't been sick long."
As Felix evaluates Sassinak, the information relayed by his helmet makes him think that what Sassinak needed was antibiotics, a firm cleaning of the wound that might be painful, but it needed to be irrigated with the irrigation syringe. Felix realized the new medical kit held the three things he'd need, - After Cuts & Scrapes® Wipe
- 2 - Povidone Iodine, 3/4 oz
- 4 - Triple Antibiotic Ointment
Sassinak appeared to be in good spirits, if weakened. Coral moistened the edge of the blanket and wiped Sassinak's brow with the cool water. Seeing this, Lacey stood up and walked over.
"Is she okay?"

Felix
“If one of them dies I want to know who... And how.” Felix says to Lacey, “If it doesn’t bother you or Cotton could you turn it on?” Felix askspolitely before turning back to Sassinak.
The fact that she had been feeling unwell since they saw Lacey makes him feel more than a little worried. “You should have said...” He says worriedly, but not annoyed. He presses a hand on Sassinak’s forehead, before nodding at Coral.
“She will be.” Felix tells Lacey when she asks about Sassinak’s wellbeing. The determination in his voice said he believeds this, but if she dies because of infection it won’t be pleasant.
Felix retrieves the things he needs from the medkit. “Lend me hand, Coral?” He asks his alliance partner, before turning to Lacey, “You can help, too, if you want.” He says to her.

"As long as it won't upset you..." Lacey complied, turning on the monitor. The time on the monitor reported that it was 10:15 a.m. , a ways until the face off. Cotton remained under the skylight, pacing nervously. He glanced over towards the screen, remarking. "Its' not going to be easy viewing. And if the careers are out of the Games..."
"I was just sick." Sassinak replied. "I didn't think that it meant anything." "It is a sign of infection." Coral frowned, sitting down next to Sassinak. "Lets get that terminal off. " Coral assisted Sassinak in taking off the terminal and carefully removing the bandages. "Oh, there is some inflammation." Coral reported. "I'll help if I can." Lacey replied to Felix. The girl from eight moved closer, sitting across from Coral and Sassinak. "What can I do?"
"What's wrong?" Sassinak shifted, staring down at her stump. "I was just sick to my stomach." She looked up towards Felix. "I've been more sick after eating something that disagreed with me, Felix. I didn't think that it meant any thing." She searched Felix's face, looking for his reaction. "Are you okay?"
"Felix." Coral picked up the irrigation syringe and handed it to him. "I don't know much healing things. We'll have to start by cleaning it... and..." She frowns, looking back to Sassinak. It was going to hurt.
Lacey leaned in, exchanging a look with Coral. "What?" She whispered. Lacey looked over towards Felix. "I can help..."

FelixFelix was glad to have the screens back on. He wanted to see if one of his ex-alliance mates went down. Not because he would rejoice, and not because it meant that was another step closer to home, but because Felix still cared about them. If one of them died, he wanted to be able to say goodbye when it happened, even if that goodbye had to be a silent one, and couldn’t fall to their ears. His attention moved back to Sassinak. He let the girls talk for a while, before he took the irrigation syringe from Coral and tried to muster up a smile for Sassinak. “This will sting...” He said nervously. “Yeah, it need to be cleaned and we need to work on mending that infection.” Felix didn’t want Sassinak to go out like this. He started getting to work on healing his district partner, telling Lacey and Coral to pass him this, and put that there as he did. Sassinak bit her lip as Felix flushed her wound. The old dried blood was washed away, revealing new, pink skin in places. Yet the raw flesh needed to be well washed and sanitized. The open wound began to bleed profusely during the process, dripping onto the linoleum floor. Felix worked feverishly to sanitize the wound, but no amount of pressure seemed to stop the bleeding. Sassinak began to jerk with each well - meaning pressure, causing her stump to jerk and a gush of blood to land on either Coral, Lacey or Felix. Lacey leaned in and pressed down on Sassinak's shoulders, pinning her down to the floor. Sassinak was now unable to move and the cleansing process could be completed. The sound of metal on leather sounded as Coral drew her chakram, leaning in towards Lacey with murderous intent in her eyes. Lacey saw Coral's face and raised one hand, open and showing she didn't have a weapon. "No!" Lacey protested. "I'm preventing her from moving on you. That's all, I swear. Cotton - get our medkit!"Cotton reached into the medkit, seeming to know what Lacey wanted. "Celox." He said to Felix, tearing it open and dropping powder over Sassinak's open wound. Immediately the powder darkened with absorbed blood. One would expect blood to keep gushing, but the bleeding appeared to be controlled. "New Capitol technology." Cotton read from the back of the empty package. "Stops heavy bleeding." He helped Felix apply the sterile dressing to Sassinak's wound. "Good stuff." He noted. "Too bad we only have one left." Sassinak relaxed in Lacey's grip and Lacey let go of her, giving Coral a wary look. "Sass?"Coral pressed a hand to Sassinak's good shoulder. Sassinak's eyes slid shut yet she continued to breathe normally, deep and evenly. "She fainted." Coral sat back, helping Felix pack up his medical kit. "Must be from the pain." Lacey hypothesized. "But I swear - as long as we share this roof, I'm not going to hurt your partner. We shared our medicine with you." "You did," Coral admitted grudgingly. "- I... guess I was just afraid this was that Chisel moment." Coral's voice was even as she continued. "And although I'm grateful for you for giving us some of your Celox, if you try and hurt my Felix or Sass, I'll slit your throat." "Understood." Lacey said gravely. Coral looked over to Felix. "Is she going to be all right?" The Celox removed the heavy bleeding from Sassinak and gives her 1 hp.
Storyteller Seryna for Felix rolled 9 dice to "Diagnosing Sassinak's condition" 7,9,9,6,4,5,9,8,10,4 (5 successes)
Looking down at Sassinak and interpreting what his helmet told him, Felix realized that this action had saved Sassinak from blood poisoning. Her wound was now sterile, and thanks to the Celox- would be clotted against further bleeding. The infection already in her blood stream would run its course in a few hours to a day as long as she was kept hydrated and took antibiotics. Stronger antibiotics in pill form would be ideal, but they didn't have that. The cream would have to do for now. Within a day, Sassinak would be fine.

Felix
The moment Sassinak’s blood started spilling, everything went crazy.
Coral’s reaction to Lacey’s aid made Felix’s breath catch in his throat. He didn’t want Coral to kill Lacey, but there wasn’t much he could do. He wouldn’t leave Sassinak bleeding to keep Coral back, so he let the two argue for a moment as he worked on keeping his district partner alive.
“Coral...” Felix breathed as the confrontation continued. Coral was trying to protect him and Sassinak as she had been doing for a long time now. But Lacey only meant well, if there had been cause for alarm Felix would have done something. He understood the predicament they were in.
Felix held Sassinak’s good hand for a moment as she fell into a slumber. And once she was unconscious, Felix let out a heavy breath.
“Coral, I know you mean well. I’m glad you feel so protective of us. But you need to understand that Lacey and Cotton have taken us in out of the goodness of their hearts. Without their aid last night, we would have been killed by the strange creatures that did that to your back.” He said, trying to remain calm.
“Cotton, Lacey, thank you for all of your kindness. You’ve been a great help, and I promise you the same that you have us; no harm will come to you on my watch.” His hand rested on Coral’s arm, “We’re an alliance now, we watch each other’s backs. I’m trusting you not to stab ours.”
With a heavy sigh, Felix nestled next to Sassinak, gently pulling her towards him so that her head could rest between his neck and his shoulder. He wrapped an arm protectively around her, before look at Coral again. “She’ll be fine, I’m sure of it. Is everyone settled now?” Felix asked, before looking down at his injured leg.
Maybe he should address that.
He turned his attention back to the screens. He didn’t want to miss the confrontation.

Coral shifted uncomfortably, perhaps embarrassed by her behavior. "I understand, Felix." She stated after a moments thought. "As long as you trust them... so will I."
She exchanged a look with Lacey, who gave the girl from district four a nod. "We appreciate the trust." Lacey assured. "I know you haven't known us for very long... and you were concerned for your friend." She nodded as Felix stated Sassinak would be fine.
"Good. She'll be safe here. Nothing can breach these walls. You made a good decision to come with us."
"Did your friends leave you behind?" Cotton asked as he watched the battle on the screens unfold.
"No." Coral replied staunchly.
"What happened to them?"
"I don't know. There was smoke... and we couldn't see. The little monsters were every where..."
"Thats the time we lost Bailey." Lacey said heavily, sighing. "It was chaos. I didn't expect those careers to have trapped everything so well."
"Oh!" Cotton sucked in his breath as Ember sliced Eclypse's throat. In the next breath, her arm was sliced off and fell to the floor.
"Oh, Felix." Coral squeezed Felix's arm. "Ember's arm..." "Your friend survived losing an arm." Cotton pointed out. "So can she."
"She ran." Coral stated as Eclypse and Ember were patched up by their alliance. The camera zoomed in on Brass atop of the horn, his giant sword in front of him and his bow in hand. The events continued and the wall of fire was revealed. Every one watched with baited breath as the Wolf Pack ran towards the factory. Brass and Eclypse took off for the Ruined City, yet Eclypse fell behind.
Brass' helmet didn't tell him what he didn't see - and he didn't hear anything about Eclypse falling behind. The tribute was overtaken by flames, giving only a sharp scream in warning. Brass half turned, but quickened his pace. There was nothing to do as the cannon blast sounded. Brass charged into the Ruined City.
Boom!

Felix
As the events unfolded on the screen, Felix felt himself tense up. Ember’s arm was cut off, and Felix breathed in sharply through his teeth. She had good alliance mates, though, who all rushed to save her. Jan’s hard work kept her from dying, Felix noted.
Those two wouldn’t be going down without a fight, it had become very clear, should Felix and his alliance have to go head to head with theirs.
He didn’t want it to come to that, but with the boom of the cannon marking the end of Eclipse’s life, Felix knew that it would probably be inevitable. The fire was leading them towards the Ruined City, and Brass too.
Brass.
Felix tensed again. “Brass is coming. The others are coming.” Felix breathed, “The Games are coming to a close... And they’re preparing the final battle.” Felix glanced worriedly at the slumbering Sassinak, and then at Coral.

Watch Tower: Felix
"They are." Coral agreed. "But we're safe here, right?" She glanced towards Lacey.
"No ones been able to find this place yet." Lacey agreed. "What are you thinking?"
"There's no need to rush outside for this confrontation." Coral proposed. "The Feast is tomorrow. Any one among us who wants to work on the Final Battle could hold off until then."
"Do you three plan on attending the Feast?" Lacey inquired. "Cotton and I intend to." "I'd like to." Coral stated, looking at Felix. "There's likely something there for Sassinak that I could bring back."

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World Burn
Their first thing was water. They needed to find water, and they needed to keep an eye out for the little pygmy things that had shot at them before.
Of course, Jan had told Isolde to grab the bag they'd found. It might say 'District 7' on it, but leaving it at the Factory meant it would burn with everything else, and then what use would it be? If District 7 was anything like District 9--and he had the strong suspicion that it somewhat was--Jan figured they'd want someone to get use out of it, even if it wasn't their own people.
Children were children, and District lines didn't change that, no matter what The Capitol attempted.
He'd switched to carrying Ember piggy back. It was just easier to move, and his own pack was put on the stretcher that Boomer had crafted. He had Ember, so he didn't take point, preferring to stick to the middle. If anything were coming for him--for them--he wanted a little warning.
"Keep an eye open. For Tributes and for water." It was a bit after noon....
"...And for a safe shelter."

Wolf Pack
The ruined city was alive with exotic noises that tributes from districts five, nine and twelve had never heard before. Birds colored in jewel tones flew overhead, making noises that sounded almost like language. The river could be heard rushing from somewhere on ahead. A plume of grey smoke wound up towards the sky. Any one who investigated found the embers of a fire. The river was in sight of the fire, thirty feet north. The river bank showed that the water level had fallen a foot recently. The river was now five feet deep, slow moving and trickling over large grey rocks covered with green moss.
The river wound through the Jungle, along the Ruined City and turned north towards the Black Tower that was at least half a days walk away. The jungle was full of trees with curved trunks and green, spiky leaves, some held brown circles that could be fruit. Long, green vines wound between the trees over head. From the corner of your eye, the occasional vine seemed to move. The vines were numerous and every where you looked, blocking out the sunlight and making dark patches in places.
Isolde walked with her bow in her hand and an arrow in her dominant hand, studying the path in front of her carefully.
"Fire." She noted. "I don't think Brass would make it. Leaves the Sevens or Lacey's group."
Were they one and the same now? Who knew? A small primate with brown fur swung from a vine overhead, chattering excitedly. Isolde drew her bow; but relaxed when it swung further on ahead.
"I'm not sure we should camp so close to the only water source. If someone wants to start filling skins, I'll keep watch."

Wolf Pack
As the group had been preparing for Ember's showdown with Eclypse, one had possibly missed the cannon that had sounded that morning. "Someone died this morning. Probably around here." Isolde whispered darkly, eyeing the the shadows suspiciously. "Its been three days since the Horn... I bet people ran out of water long before we did." The non aggression pact with the careers had afforded the Wolf Pack 6 more gallons than most tributes departed with. The average person could go about three days without water... which might be setting some desperate people out for this river. As Jan moved forward, he spotted four sets of foot prints headed north, towards the Apartment tower. One of them was dotted with little circles that weren't natural - caused by crutches, no doubt. Glancing around, Jan was fairly certain no tribute was on the riverbank with his alliance.

Ember Clay: District Twelve Female Tribute, “The Girl Who Loved to Play with Fire” Ember was humming a song she didn't quite know. The lyrics were almost at the front of her mind but she couldn't really make it out. Just the tune and basic melody. She nodded when Jan spoke and stood on her feet for the first time since she lost her arm. There was a glance thrown Jan's way. Ember felt so weak. Not just physically but mentally... emotionally. She should be stronger than this. But Ember was ready to give up. The only thing that was keeping her going was Lily, Isolde, and of course Jan. “Little Bit... Get my other knife (+3) and give it to Boom-Boom. Watching him walk around with that sad looking knife is starting to bug me.” Ember said. “People ran out of water but no one died of thirst yet.” Ember Clay rolled 8 dice to "Perception" 10,10,4,6,10,9,1,8,5,7,6 (5 successes)

Felix
“I wasn’t sure before...” Felix admitted, but he looked at the unconscious Sassinak worriedly again, before looking back at Coral, nodding, “But I have a reason to go now.” He didn’t know whether that meant he was marching himself to his death. But Sassinak would be worth that risk. Anything for her.
He nodded at the screen. “They’re here.” He announced. His tone was difficult to place. With a long exhale, Felix shrugged.
“We don’t have to go out to them, but if it looks like they’re going to come in here with the intention of killing us,” Felix hated to say it, “We’re going to have to defend what’s ours. I hope you’ll all be ready for that.” Felix said.
“Coral, would you mind making sure my leg hasn’t gotten worse. I’ve been putting a lot of strain on it recently.” He wanted to ignore the fact that he might have to kill his former alliance mates. Try to, at least.
It was that, or be killed by them.

Jan Colton; District 9's Volunteer: The Boy Who Would Watch the World BurnThe Song"...Perhaps this final act was meant To clinch a lifetime's argument That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could For all those born beneath an angry star Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are how fragile we are..." Ember was humming under her breath, and Jan had taken to sort of singing the song under his. It was one that Jace sang sometimes. When he thought no one was listening. It was one of his favorites, but most people thought it was just far too sad... Where had Ember heard it? He looked sidelong at her, and swallowed. She looked...weak, and that upset him more than he thought it would. Even as he bent down to start filling waterskins and canteens, keeping his own eye out for danger. Not to say he didn't trust Izzy, but two sets of eyes were better than one. On that note... "I have binoculars, Izzy." He handed offered them to her from where they were dangling on his belt. They might actually help. "There are four sets of footprints going toward that tower. One set looks like the person is on crutches." There's a look to the others. Felix, most likely. "I'm not seeing anyone else sharing the bank of the river with us. Anyone else see anything?"
