He saw perfectly in the dark. So perfectly that the only way they'd been able to catch him was by bringing bright lights and making sure he stayed blind. "But I will try and pick the locks first. If that doesn't work, I may have to resort to...a more barbaric display."By using his enhanced strength. Something he hadn't done very much, but he could do it in a pinch. As he led them toward the facility, he kept his eyes open for anyone who might see him, and moved with an odd, practiced lightness of step. Soundless and quiet. Seemed he wasn't only good at breaking in... ...But good at not being caught as well. Any cameras? He'd shift the shadows to hide the three of them as best he could, up to and including dropping a blanket of pitch blackness on the area as he worked. No one else could see what he was doing, but he saw much better when it was dark. Much better. [Shade has a Larceny of 3 with a specialty in Lockpicking, and a Stealth of 3.]

Logan stalked off after Beast, keeping his senses peeled for anything that might be coming. The feral mutant didn't exchange any words with his two teammates, focusing on the task at hand and staying alert.

It's such a thrill to watch someone explode with emotions that I've engorged. You should try it sometime." Lacy slipped out of the van after the other two mutants. She brought up the rear, speaking quietly as they moved. "Shouldn't be a problem, Miss Raven. You go animal and I'll stop tuning out your surface thoughts. I just ask you don't picture anything distracting while doing so." Some people thought in pictures, some in words, others in concepts. One man Lacy had read had even thought in musical tones. He was a fun one to 'listen' to. While Lacy could interpret the images, words, sounds, or concepts, it took extra effort. And if someone pictured something distracting, it was just as distracting for Lacy. It was part of the reason she tuned most stray surface thoughts out. As well as respecting folks privacy. "I haven't nightvision goggles with me, but I trust you to see us through. Just warn me if we come to stairs." She hid her nervousness behind a dazzling smile directed at Shade. As they approached the complex, she closed her eyes for a moment and spread out her consciousness, 'feeling' for those around her. She wanted to give Shade and Mystique an accurate headcount of who and what they were approaching beforehand.

As Shade, Mystique and Lacy walk forward, they note a receptionists office with a large glass window that they can see in. There is a lone woman sitting at the desk that contains a desk top computer and a phone. There is no one else in view. There are two doors in view from the front door. As the three leave the van, someone had seen the two goggles that were in the back pockets of the two front seats. Night vision? Possibly. Perhaps someone should check. As Lacy glanced within the room, she heard something. A feminine voice - the receptionist - was thinking: '...those three kids that were driven out looked in poor spirits. I wonder if this is the right avenue... but, they're free. Likely not to return to help against the Big Guns that are coming'.

“Good idea, Shade.” I said to his suggestion of night-vision goggles. “I think I saw something like that in the van...” I stuck my head back inside the van and spotted something that looked like goggles of some description – Could be night-vision or something else, there were so many different varieties. I snagged the two pairs I'd found and brought them out into the daylight so I could take a closer look at them.
I heard Lacy's comment about distracting mental pictures and couldn't help but smirk knowingly, but in a friendly way. “I'll try to keep that in mind, Miss Lacy – Or rather out of mind.” A friendly wink accompanied this light-hearted small-talk. I wanted to keep things light, until it was time to get serious.
At her mention of the goggles, I presented her with one of the pairs I'd found “These were in the van, they might be night-vision or something else...” I looked more closely at the pair in my hands to figure out how they worked and if they'd do what we needed of them...
If they were what they seemed to be, I'd stick close to Shade as he moved to approach the building, keeping eyes on both him and Lacy whilst remembering to check for any surveillance devices or tripwires en-route.

Mystique, Shade and Lacy see nothing out of the ordinary. There are no cameras, guard towers or trip wires. The office looks like an average lobby or receptionists' office. Inspecting the goggles reveal that they are night vision goggles.

She almost idly clipped them onto a pocket as they walked. Her glance into the receptionist office told her plenty: this was a legitimate office of some sort, the woman was in the know, at least some of the children weren't here, they were expected. That last bit was the most alarming. Butterflies ballooned in her stomach. If they knew she and the others were coming, they'd be prepared for a fight. She reached out and put a hand on Mystique's shoulder as she closed her eyes. "Keep walking, warn me if there's stairs," she said aloud. A moment later she sought out Beast's mind, brushed it, then spoke directly to him and Mystique: "At least a few of the kids are gone. Three to be exact, and they were in poor spirits. Receptionist is also expecting 'Big Guns' and thought the kids might have helped against them. I think we're expected... but will keep you apprised of developments." All the while, she kept sweeping the area and an active monitor on the receptionist for more clues. Lacy Rogan rolled 7 dice to "Keeping Concentration" 3,10,6,9,10,3,10,9,9,9 (7 successes)

The three walk up to the only door into the receptionists office. They glance around and do not notice any cameras or guards. They do notice that the door to the receptionists' office is unlocked. There are no stairs. Does any one try on the night vision goggles? Is Shade blanketing the late afternoon with darkness? What do the three do at the door?
Around back, Wolverine, Havoc and Beast find a parking lot area with a private road running back out to the main road. There are two helicopter pads with a helicopter present on each one. The three are forced to duck around back when a white clad doctor and a pair of black clad men head to the helicopter. The doctor holds a red cooler.
"...video of the team hitting downtown. Looks like at least two kids were kidnapped." "Any way of tracking them?" "No." The female doctor sounded frustrated. "We had a team try and intercept, but they were hit by two darts. We can only pray they weren't the weaponized cure darts. Our people haven't woken up yet." "Who was it?" "Erica and Kelly." "Damn." The man sounds upset. "Do they know where we are?" "I don't know, but with the strike on the Lab, we have to assume that they might. We need to safe guard the kids we have here." "What about the three who chose to leave?" "I don't know. We could try checking the mall, see if they're still there..." "They might see that as harassment. They did choose to go." "And we just let the team incarcerate them? They're good kids. We need to censure Kimer, though. I saw Riley and she was absolutely mistreated- what?" Two of the men paused, glancing around the tarmac. "Get in the copter."
The doctor obeyed, climbing into the back seat of the craft. What were Havoc and Wolverine's inclinations?

Shade: Shadow Dancer“We are not defined by the family into which we are born, but the one we choose and create. We are not born, we become." "It's the middle of the afternoon. We could just try to walk in first." Which is exactly what he does. Puts one hand on the handle of the door and pulls--or pushes, whichever--to see if it opens. And like he perhaps thought, because it was the middle of the afternoon and there was a receptionist, the door opened without issue. "And this would be where my expertise ends. At least, for now. I am certainly not a 'talker', by trade."

Storm's passangers didn't object to dangerous - they seemed curious about what had happened to them. Storm returned to her team and picked them up; transporting every one to where Beasts' team was operating.
"Oh, we're back." Royce noted, looking out of the window. "This is the place that let us go."
Shade, Lacy, Mystique
The receptionist glanced over at Shade and his companions.
"Hello?" She called, somewhat confused why they had been standing there for so long. "Come inside. Are you here to visit someone?"
Beast noted that Wolverine and Havoc didn't seem to care about anything that had been said in front of them.
"I'll go distract them. They may come over here, so.. you may have to do something about that."
Beast was agile and leaped around the wall of the building that the three had been observing from. He leaped around like a large, agile ape as he approached the barbed wire fence. He vaulted himself over it and landed on the other side, pausing.
The doctor and two black clad men entered the helicopter, starting it up and preparing to take off.

As the receptionist turned her attention to us, she might recognise the form I'd taken as Rogue – If Rogue had been here anyway. I hoped neither of my companions would give me away.
“I brought a couple of my friends with me to take a look around, if that's ok? Perhaps someone could give us a tour and tell us more about what goes on here?” I asked with a smile.
I'd paid attention to Lacy's intel she'd conveyed mentally – I hoped Rogue might be one of the three kids that had 'gone'. Also, 'gone' didn't insinuate 'escaped' so that was a big unanswered question too.
<Miss Lacy, please let me know whether the receptionist recognises 'me' or not? Oh, and you can introduce yourselves if you wish, but use fake names. They may have a database of known mutants, I'd rather they not know what we can do.> I 'said' mentally, hopeful Lacy would pick up on it and relay to Shade the part that pertained to him.
If things went according to plan, we should be introduced to someone high up in this organization. The mere fact that they had a friendly receptionist told me something – We might gain useful intel simply by asking directly. After all, Lacy should be able to tell facts from fiction told by whoever we spoke to, just like she offered to be a human lie-detector for me at the mansion. Secondarily, we may also gain a better idea of the floor-plan of this place if we got any kind of tour.
Outwardly I looked and sounded just like Rogue, but outside the receptionists' line of sight there were a few small patches of blue that might give me away to anyone other than her. Also, the illusion was only skin-deep visually – I still hadn't regained my old ability to flawlessly mimic textures, and 'Rogue's skin would feel like snake-skin rather than human skin to the touch, IF that happened.

Alexander Summers “Havoc”: The Fallen Summers Boy “The Brotherhood is not about senseless killing. It is about assuring that mutants will live in peace. With themselves, with each other, and amongst humans” It wasn't that Havoc didn't care. It was just that his mind was elsewhere. He had been thinking about the first days with the first class. They had all been so young then. And Raven... she was different. In fact he was fairly certain if Raven then had met Raven now, she'd have slapped her silly. How did become... this? She was so broken, weak. There was no air of strength. Even the young Raven that was insecure about her looks was preferable to the Raven that skipped around, prattling on like some idiot school girl. This was not the Raven he remembered. Oh, how the mighty had fallen, eh? Havoc blinked when Beast spoke. How long had he been speaking? Did he miss something he said. “No worries, Bozo. Distractions happen to be my specialty.”Ororo Munroe “Storm”: The Weather Witch “You counter despair with hope. You strive forever for the best you are capable to be. Therein lies the victory.” Storm frowned when she saw Beast's team had deployed instead of waiting on her as she requested. A talk for another time. Of course it didn't help matters much that Mystique was here. Why did Mystique's presence bothered her more than Magneto's? Because Magneto had been nothing but honest about what and who he was. Storm didn't know where Mystique. And she didn't like that. One can have a difference of opinions with her but what Raven was doing left Storm perplexed. And therefore more distrustful. “X-Men, this Storm,” she said into a comm system. “Status report. I have Rogue and a few others with me we're here. And they say this is the place they were being held.”Devon: The Wounded Healer “Something happens when I heal someone. It's not just their wounds I absorb, it's their pain too. I take in that pain, I experience that hurt. Their wounds become my wounds. Their emotional anguish too. I experience their injuries as if they were my own. And yes, it hurts more than you can possibly imagine. So why do I keep doing it? I do it because maybe one day it'll free me. You don't know what it's like to skate so close to death, so close to being free only to be slammed back into reality. I heal people so that maybe one of the injuries'll be something I can't come back from...” Shadowcat flew them to the third site. Devon sat in the back with Magneto. She watched him for a moment. Then she spoke, her eyes full of concern. “Magneto, sir... are you alright?” she asked. “The prison wasn't what we were looking for but this is the third site. We'll find something. We will stop them.” Her tone was respectful. Always respectful for the older man. He had been a general in the fight before she was a little lab mouse. She still had a lot to learn and Magneto could be the one to teach her.

Mystique, Shade & Lacy
"Are you feeling all right?" The receptionist inquired of Rogue. "We asked if you wanted all that and you said you'd rather leave." She checked her watch.
"You came back rather quickly, too.." The receptionist handed 'Rogue' (Mystique) a clipboard. "Sign in and have your friends sign in, too. What aspects do you want to see?"

Beast
"Storm, glad that you made it. Havoc, Wolverine and myself are around back. We are seeing if they have the transportation our attackers have, and they do. There is a helicopter back here occupied by a doctor with a medical cooler and two black clad men. They are discussing something interesting:"
Beast paraphrases this conversation: "No." The female doctor sounded frustrated. "We had a team try and intercept, but they were hit by two darts. We can only pray they weren't the weaponized cure darts. Our people haven't woken up yet." "Who was it?" "Erica and Kelly." "Damn." The man sounds upset. "Do they know where we are?" Mystique, Shade and Lacy please give Storm your sit rep. If you are speaking to someone, please state where you are and what you are doing, conversationally to one another."

"Anytime you want this place torn wide open give the word." Logan commented over the communicator, his statement directed at both Storm and Beast alike. He'd had enough of shady government dealings after the incident with Stryker, and this was bringing back some... unpleasant memories of that encounter. Frankly he was itching to bust in and liberate whatever mutants they had captive in there.

“Oh I haven't agreed to anything yet, but after talking with my friends I reflected that it would be best to make an informed decision than dismiss any options out of hand. After all, you let us leave once – If, after a tour and a briefing on exactly what would be expected of us, we still wish to leave I take it we will be allowed to do so again?” I replied to the receptionist, taking the proffered clipboard and memorizing each name and associated handwriting/signature samples in case I had to mimic them later, as I tried to recall the flow of Rogue's handwriting style.
If Rogue had signed-out on this clipboard when she'd left, it'd be a cinch to mimic that sample. If not, I'd go by memory and hope for the best. After signing in as Rogue, I offered the clipboard to my companions, using the movement to disguise pressing the transmit/PTT button on my communicator to respond to Beast's request for a sit-rep. Hopefully an open-mic for the rest of our conversation with the receptionist would give them enough information.
“We'd like to see a little of everything, if you can oblige? How long have you worked here as a receptionist anyway? Do you know why your employers take mutants without even asking, no matter what they're in the middle of doing? What is their purpose? What's so urgent and secret that they can't even ask before whisking someone away from everything they know? - And most particularly, what would we be asked to do?” Maybe I'd gone a little overboard, but hopefully Beast and Storm had a better idea what we were doing and where we were now, and maybe the receptionist had a few answers for us or would refer us to someone higher up who had more answers than she was comfortable telling us herself.
I left the communicator's mic open so Beast/Storm would hear any answers we heard from the receptionist, and figured one of them would let us know when they'd heard enough to tell them where we were and what we were doing.
Shade had made a comment earlier, and though I couldn't now respond directly, I wanted him to know I hadn't ignored him. “My friend here is a little shy and probably won't talk much, but he does listen and might whisper his questions to us to convey to you.” I figured this way he could covertly talk to us without much notice being taken of it. As for Lacy, well she had her own covert communications system in place – Telepathy.
I'd gathered from our earlier conversation that distance had a substantial effect on her telepathic abilities – She could 'yell' for help from the other X-men outside, but anything long-winded would probably take a lot out of her, so the communicator was better for the long-range stuff, on the whole.

She took the clipboard after Mystique and jotted down 'Leslie Graymane' before passing it to Shade. She held her breath, wishing she was the one doing the talking, and not just smiling prettily at the receptionist. "I was hoping to see more than the lobby. You know, see the rest of the facility in a tour, get the history, that sort of thing." She smiled and touched the Receptionist's mind, seeing what would be the best area to ask to see first. For the moment, she wanted to keep her face curious and innocent. She projected to Mystique: She recognizes you, obviously. I'm checking for the best place to ask about first.

I 'heard' Lacy's projection and decided to respond in kind by thinking my reply.
<If you'd like to take the lead on the talking, go right ahead. I just took the initiative, being in the guise of someone she recognises. I'm sure with your abilities you're a natural for extracting information from your own conversations.>
Glancing at the clipboard, I saw the name she'd chosen to give.
“Leslie helped convince me it was a good idea to come back here. I hope she was right...” I also hoped the real Rogue would chime in over the communicator and brief us on what she'd been put through while she was here, so we wouldn't be wrong-footed by anyone.

Shade: Shadow Dancer“We are not defined by the family into which we are born, but the one we choose and create. We are not born, we become." 'Shy' was not the word he'd use to describe himself, but it worked in a pinch. It allowed him to observe without being bothered with, and allowed him to listen without being forced to bother with inane conversation. Finding where there might be cameras or listening to know where there might be other mutants was his best use right now, and if he weren't speaking it would mean they would be less inclined to pay him much attention. IT would make breaking off and sneaking off much easier as well, if the need arose. He wrote the name 'Kyler James' on the clipboard. Nicely unisex, if a touch messy due to his somewhat blindness. This lack of darkness was going to be a b!tch. "One would hope that we would see more than the reception area." Because it seemed to him that giving them a way of knowing exactly where they were right now over the earpiece would be best. For all he knew, it would make it easier to track their movements inside.

Riley listened in on the communicator as she waited with storm. "They are opposed to mutant registration and fear the government, I don't know much more about what they want."
Riley thought for a minute. "I should be in there too, I could look like one of them, I got a good look at the scientist. I can look like others too. I just can't alter my clothing. Although, I don't think I'd need to, they seemed to have expected me to return, and join their cause." Riley formed cat ears again as she listened in on the communicator, curious what was happening in there.

Alexander Summers “Havoc”: The Fallen Summers Boy “The Brotherhood is not about senseless killing. It is about assuring that mutants will live in peace. With themselves, with each other, and amongst humans” Havoc leaned over to Beast's earpiece. Yes he had his own. But he loved messing with Beast. It had been one of his favorite pasttimes when he had been younger. “Hi Storm. Hello, Storm. How are you doing, Storm.”He chuckled and backed up. When Logan spoke up he nodded. “I second what the mighty hedgehog says.”Ororo Munroe “Storm”: The Weather Witch “You counter despair with hope. You strive forever for the best you are capable to be. Therein lies the victory.” Storm patched Beast's response to the comm on board so everyone could hear the conversations. When Riley spoke Storm nodded. “Are you certain? This will be dangerous?” Storm got on the comm again. And gave orders. “Beast proceed with caution. Riley (a former hostage of theirs) says they fear the government and oppose registration. Lacy, Shade, and Raven, keep pressing them. They know something. I'm sending Riley in. She'll be with Devon so you'll know it's her.”“Devon?”Devon: The Wounded Healer “Something happens when I heal someone. It's not just their wounds I absorb, it's their pain too. I take in that pain, I experience that hurt. Their wounds become my wounds. Their emotional anguish too. I experience their injuries as if they were my own. She smiled, weakly at the others. “Hello, everyone. I call myself Devon. Is anyone hurt?... And who's Riley?”

"All right..." The receptionist reviewed a small phamplet, pausing to introduce herself as Emily.
"Now it looks like our two guests are dining in the cafeteria if you want to meet with them. Have some first hand experience, if you will. I can also show you the testing rooms and a peek at a laboratory that has closed down for the evening." She pauses at Fubar's questions. "Well..I would have thought they explained this to you. When you get to this stage- the Rehab- we explain some of our mission. We were formed after an acquaintance of Dr. Hall's was abducted, presumably because the acquaintance was a mutant. We've tracked the abduction of twenty or so mutants. We decided to try and fight back. Originally, we rescued a few or foiled the attempted kidnappings. Rventually, we started asking some to join us - and thats where we have todays strike force." She makes a face. "The organization has a new head that prefers a more militaristic approach. Abduct, attempt to replicate the powers and then offer to train them in our organization. He's not very popular." Her voice dips conspiratory. "I hear he's angered one of the doctors over his treatment of someone who had been in the Laboratory. We aren't supposed to harm, of course. I hear she plans on turning him over to the police, but.." She shrugs. "-he's well connected." She seems distracted as her phone buzzes.
"Just a moment."
She excuses herself to answer the phone, turning her back to the mutant guests. The trio realize they could use this for a quick meeting of the minds for how to proceed - and to discreetly update Storm and Beast.

"Who's Devon?" Riley asked Storm as she said Riley would be with her. She started to head out of the x wing while shifting back to a more human form being seeing Devon enter.
"Hello Devon. I go by Riley, sometimes, but who I am I'm still trying to figure out." she said with a bit of a shrug. it was difficult for Riley having no true form. Who or what she, or he really was was always an unknown. Riley wasn't even sure if she was human. She could just as easily be a shape-shifting alien from Mars, for all she knew.
