I heard Devon's remark, but was already moving too far away for her to hear me reply. I hadn't, of course, said anything at all about Magneto having already spoken about me. What I'd actually said was a suggestion that IF she wanted to know 'what I knew of duty' as she'd put it, she SHOULD ASK him. As in future-tense, no reference whatsoever to any past remarks he may or may not have said about me.
What was it about all these people either misunderstanding or misconstruing almost everything I said to them as if it were something negative or unproductive or otherwise distasteful? I was trying here, after all; Trying to fit in, to make friends if possible, to make up for the mistakes I'd made in the past when I was still dutifully following Mister Magnets... At the rate I'm going, I'll end up alienating myself from everyone before long, and THEN where would I be?
It was probably for the best that I hadn't been able to stick around and argue the point with Devon – Even pointing out how she'd misheard me might have just lead to even more negative feelings toward me.
I sighed inwardly at that thought.
There was something I couldn't quite place about Storm's body-language that told me my suggestion was either unwanted or misinterpreted. I went over what I'd said in my mind – I hadn't mentioned anything about the people outside the X-wing... I suppose I should have specified getting them aboard before we took off, but because I hadn't perhaps she'd assumed I'd meant leaving without them? Well, I was an ex-bad-guy so I suppose that was a natural enough assumption, even if it wasn't very fair on me.
I wish Charles were still around, he'd cut through everyone's spoken words and hear what they'd really meant, just as he always had... I missed that about him, among other things.
I nodded an affirmative response to Beast's request so-as not to delay him in his task of getting the others inside. I glanced at Storm before heading out after him to make sure my daughter got back to the X-wing safely.
I heard the Betrayer's words as he took off, but didn't even spare him a glance. At least he was being useful... For now.
Still within earshot of Beast's fantastic hearing and Storm too, I raised a question just loud enough for them both not to mishear me:
“So who's driving the X-van back then? Or are we leaving it here to get total'd by whoever the Facility staff are afraid of? It's a shame it won't fit aboard the X-jet, that would've simplified things a lot.”
I thought about adding a question over whether the X-men intended to stick around and help defend the poor occupants of the facility in any way, given we'd already shown they were no further threat to us. But then again, mentioning such a thing would probably be taken the wrong way, just like so many of my other questions and suggestions.
I reminded myself it would take considerable effort and time to overcome the pre-existing bias against my character – Yet another thing to 'thank' Magneto for...

But then again, mentioning such a thing would probably be taken the wrong way, just like so many of my other questions and suggestions. I reminded myself it would take considerable effort and time to overcome the pre-existing bias against my character – Yet another thing to 'thank' Magneto for... The children - three - were hustled out of the back door into the trucks. The female doctor and two black clad armed men enter with them. With haste, the truck pulled away and drove with great speed. Two more trucks pulled out of the facility and followed after. It would seem that the facility was already empty and that there was no people to help inside. At Mystique's suggestion, Beast turned towards her. His expression was mild surprise, as though he had forgotten about the van. "I will." He declared. "Shade, Lacy." Beast strode towards the facility, pausing when he saw the two approaching. He fell in step behind them, walking them towards the X - wing. "Get inside and strap in. Hurry." He encouraged all who remained outside of the X - wing. "We're leaving. Logan, can you pilot?"For a moment, Beast could not remember. He held out his hand towards Logan, gesturing for Logan to hand him the keys to the X vehicle.

Devon: The Wounded Healer “Something happens when I heal someone. It's not just their wounds I absorb, it's their pain too. I take in that pain, I experience that hurt. Their wounds become my wounds. Their emotional anguish too. I experience their injuries as if they were my own. And yes, it hurts more than you can possibly imagine. So why do I keep doing it? I do it because maybe one day it'll free me. You don't know what it's like to skate so close to death, so close to being free only to be slammed back into reality. I heal people so that maybe one of the injuries'll be something I can't come back from...” Devon walked into the X-Wing, with a stoic look gracing her features. She didn't look at Raven. Too proud for that. Pride was a folly attributed to her youth. She'd underestimate Raven's prowess in battle. In her mind, Devon could take her if it came down to it. And perhaps it may. Only time would tell. She looked at Magento before he departed. “Be careful,” she told him in earnest before strapping herself in. Devon left a seat open for Lacey and Shade. And she smiled at them when they entered, relieved that both of them had made it back. Ororo Munroe “Storm”: The Weather Witch “You counter despair with hope. You strive forever for the best you are capable to be. Therein lies the victory.” “I'll pilot,” Storm said, positioning herself. She glanced at Logan. “I'll need a co-pilot.”She frowned then. Scott or Jean had usually been that for her. But Jean was gone and Scott... well he wasn't up for it yet. Storm looked at Magneto when he said he'd cover their retreat. She couldn't say why, but Ororo trusted Magneto to do his job. Which is why she needed to speak with him when they had some down time. The professor had once seen something in Magneto, and perhaps a bit of that person was returning to him. Storm could only hope. “Are we ready to go?” Storm asked. To Raven she replied, “We're leaving it. The well-being of these students is my only concern at this point. And if these people trace that van back to us... I pity anyone that brings a fight directly to our front door.”

Magneto: Master of Magnetism. People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.- George Orwell He let his power reach out, surrounding the helicopters preparing to toss them out of the sky. He could feel the power, the strength of the force that he wielded that could shatter these weapons of war like eggs, shattering their bodies and slaying their occupants. He frowned as they approached. His mind skipped back to an ancient time, to an ancient sight when men in green uniforms had been an image of hope, a light in the darkness. And Magneto, Wanted Terrorist, Mutant Warlord, Slayer of men paused. He did not release his gentle grips but neither did he squeeze, for as long as they offered no direct threat he offered none in return. Indeed the only thing that the pilots would notice would be their compass's going wild as they flew otherwise unhindered, for now at least.

As the X-Men and friends assembled into the X - Wing, the vehicle convoy approached the rehabilitation facility at break neck speed. Who were these people? They were clearly not friends with those who had abducted Shade, Riley and the others...
Magneto could feel the approach of the metal become pressing as the convoy and helicopters came into sight. The X - wing ascended and departed for the mansion, leaving the van where it was. With the X - men gone, would Magneto depart with them?

"No, I don't think thats a good idea. Why don't you go strap in?" Beast suggested to Riley. Riley lowered her head and obeyed. She was starting to get used to taking orders, but at least this was her own good and she was confident she could run off on her own if she choose too. She followed Devon into the X-wing and found an open seat near her. She again felt nervous at having chosen a dress to steal, it seemed practical at the time. Still, Riley did her best to smile back at the others as well, even though she was very nervous.

Having made sure my daughter was aboard safely, along with everyone else, I closed the hatch and strapped myself into a seat with a view of the important instruments such as radar etc. The MAD readings to the rear were a bit screwy, but that was just 'cos Mags was out doing his thing.
I understood Storm's priorities of course, and it was probably the best course of action, but as the saying goes: 'Pride often comes before a fall'. - I hoped leaving the X-van behind wouldn't bite us in the butt, for it had Xavier's logo all over it and it would stand out like a sore thumb to any organization with moderate knowledge of the mutant community – They'd know it belonged to the X-men.
I suppose I should start including myself in that, and say the van is 'ours', but it doesn't quite ring true yet. I'm still very-much an outsider, an unknown entity now my loyalty to Magneto has been shattered; especially when they're trying to collaborate with him over recent issues.
I used to know Magneto, or at least I thought I did, better than any other mutant alive next to Xavier of course. Did I still know the man? Yes, up to a point. I could at least say I still knew him a lot better than most, despite the nasty surprise he'd sprung on me. Did I know him any better because of that event? Well, it certainly moved the line I'd always believed he wouldn't cross – Apparently, no matter how loyal someone is to him, if they lose their mutation he throws them to the wolves like a broken toy. Like they were merely a mundane human. This was his prejudice; Humanity. Now I had my mutation back, of course, so I imagine he'd probably try to invite me to rejoin his side, if he didn't know me better. I'll make him wish he hadn't burned THIS bridge... If only I can find some way to do so without further alienating myself from the X-men in the process... After all, they have their own way of dealing with things, and I'd have to get used to doing things their way if I was to have any chance of joining them as a full member.
