Island # 1 As you move over the rocky ground of the Cornecupia towards the first island; you see that the shore of the island is a mere fifty feet from the craggy shore of Cornucopia. It should be an easy swim. As you wade into the water; you find the salt water cold. Goose-flesh crawls across your skin; but anything beats death. Midway across, something brushes your leg. Looking down, you see a school of brightly colored fish pass you by. As you haul yourself and whatever gear you've managed to obtain onto the glittering golden sand of the shore; you survey your new environment. This sandy beach stretches as far as you can see to the north and south of you. About twenty feet ahead; palm fronds and palm trees announce a jungle interior of this island.

As the shore line loomed into view; you spy movement along the shore. After a moment of observation; you watch as a young girl brings in a fishing net with two wiggling fish indicative of a fresh catch. She becomes aware of you and draws the net in; turning to run towards the palm trees that make up the main of the island.
You spy an older male tribute step out from the trees; eyeing you with concern. He and the girl vanish into the trees; but you know what you came here for: here are tributes. The tributes have been tipped off to your arrival and what sort of welcome are they hatching for you?
The raft is about a five minute row to shore; when something bumps the raft. You regain your balance and glance around; but nothing has pierced the raft...
Perception roll, please.

Conrad eyed the bite on his wrist irritably. Bloody mutts...
Dry land was a welcome thing after the rapid rush of river that had swept them out here, but as he spotted the tributes it seemed that events were yet to slow down and give them a break...
As the raft lurched Conrad looked around for a possible cause.

Glancing down; Conrad spotted something that made his heart leap into his throat. It was a dark, torpedo like shadow circling beneath the raft. Its form was unmistakable - and it was enormous.
Shark
Singer brings her arm over her head and clutched in her fist you spot the Bang!Stick meant for just such a creature. Glancing from the petite girl to the monster in the deep; the match up seems insane. A bee against a bear...
From the shore; you hear cries. You can't distinguish individual words; but emotion runs deep - fear, anger, surprise? Someone's screaming and yelling on the shore; hidden from sight behind that tree line.

Conrad ignored the current cries from the shore in favor of the closer and more immediate threat.
"Singer, shoot the damn thing!" Conrad hissed, otherwise sitting very very still indeed as his heart pounded so hard it felt like it was going to burst through his chest.

Singer straightened up in the raft, kneeling on the flimsy inflated 'bench seat' as she leveled the bang stick towards the dark shape circling the raft. There was a terrible moment as the shark began to rise towards the surface, a dark speeding shape hurtling upwards towards you. The petite girl squeezed the trigger, causing the 'stick' to send a jolt to that monster.
The raft buckled with tremendous force as the shark buckled underneath the raft. Singer went rolling into the center of the raft, arms flailing. Chisel made a bellow as he lost his balance, hurtling into the ocean. There was another terrible jolt and you are pressed to keep your balance. You hear a SPLASH as one of the gear bags tumbled into the ocean- the extra tridents were bobbing, but they'd sink soon... The other bags began to lurch and lull towards the ocean as the raft tipped...
You are plunged into the salty ocean, flailing to keep your head above the water. Gear bags are floating all around you. You see Cypress to the left, Singer to the right... no sign of Chisel or Vibrance, yet... where were they? More importantly, where was the shark? Glancing to the shore, you guess that if you swim quickly, you could make it in a few moments....
Please roll Wits + Composure to grabbing the floating gear bags. 1 suxx = 1 bag of your choice (ie, bag of food, bag of tent and fishing gear... Please roll Athletics & Strength to roll getting towards shore (extended, needs 10 successes)

Conrad said something best not repeated as the raft capsized under neath them, sending them all hurtling into the water around them. Kicking hard towards the surface, Conrad's head reemerged as he looked around for Cypress, his heart skipping a beat at the thought of... Cypress! There she was... Conrad Miles rolled 5 dice to "Bag Grab" 6,10,8,4,9,3 (3 successes) Conrad grabbed desperately for the nearest trident as it started to sink towards the ocean floor, fortune smiling on him as he snagged it with his fingertips. As he thrust it in the direction of the nearest bag straps, he could help but grin despite the situation as the extended reach rewarded him with not one but three bags. Moving the trident to his free hand, Conrad turned and swam towards his district partner. "Get to the shore!" Conrad said, afraid for her safety. Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 1" 7,8,2,8 (2 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 2" 8,7,5,7 (1 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 3" 1,1,3,5 (0 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 4" 3,7,3,10,5 (1 success) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 5" 9,2,3,7 (1 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 6" 4,8,1,8 (2 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 7" 5,2,9,2 (1 successes) Conrad Miles rolled 4 dice to "Swim 8" 9,8,2,7 (2 successes)
Due to being over-protective (or an idiot; both could apply) Conrad won't leave Cypress behind. He'll be following her, trying to help if she runs into any kind of difficulty, which means he's not leaving the water before she does and anything that tries attacking her is going to have to get through him.

Cypress came up sputtering, reaching around her. Her hand latched onto one of the bags floating near her and she pulled it near, cradling it in one hand as she swam for the shore. She doesn't waste oxygen for words, looking hard pressed to swim as it is. Cypress Woodward rolled 5 dice to "bag grab" 4,1,1,10,7,7 (1 successes)
The brunnette girl makes a valiant effort for shore, but her arms tire quickly. Twice, her head sinks below the surface only for her to find Conrad's arm to pull herself back towards the life giving air. The shore seems miles away when you are bobbing in the ocean, death circling beneath you... Turning your head, you watch as Singer reaches shore, pulling herself onto the sandy beach. Chisel is walking towards the surf towards her, one of the gear bags slung over his shoulder. Singer glances at him - at you in the water- and turns and races towards the trees! Chisel turns towards the water, an expression of horror on his face. What - does he see the shark? You wonder. Yet then you feel the ocean around you surge as the massive form comes upwards; its mouth a wide maw lined with hundreds of teeth. Theres a girl's scream - Cypress? The shark twists its massive head and comes loose with something fleshy colored gripped in its mouth. You hear a pained shriek - Vibrance. Her shoulder is a mass of red gore. Another wordless scream fills your head as the shark comes up from below, seizing her in its jaws. Both submerge in the growing pool of red blood that drifts up from below... You turn both ways, but Vibrance does not emerge. You can't see any sign of her or the shark. Its time to go. There's no way she'd survive losing an arm like that, even if you could get her away from the shark.Cypress finds a reserve of strength and the two of you make your way into the surf. The waves batter against your legs as you collapse on the sand. You feel exhausted...and you've lost Vibrance. Looking up, you realize you've lost Chisel and Singer... 2012-03-28 20:19:53 Singer rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,7,1,8,10,10,10,3,3 (5 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:19:43 Singer rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 4,7,3,5,9,7 (1 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:19:38 Singer rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,3,6,3,8,7 (2 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:19:31 Singer rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 6,9,10,9,10,1,3,10,1 (5 successes) 2012-03-28 20:19:08 Chisel rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 3,9,5,2,5,4 (1 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:19:03 Chisel rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 5,3,8,10,7,1,1 (2 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:18:59 Chisel rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 2,10,8,7,5,9,7 (3 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:18:54 Chisel rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 3,6,2,4,1,4 (0 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:18:47 Chisel rolled 6 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 5,10,3,8,8,9,5 (4 successes) 2012-03-28 20:14:31 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,6,2,8 (2 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:14:25 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,9,2,3 (2 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:14:20 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 5,6,6,3 (0 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:14:15 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 1,10,3,6,4 (1 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:14:10 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 1,3,3,5 (0 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:14:04 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,9,3,4 (2 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:13:59 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 8,3,3,7 (1 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:13:46 Cypress Woodward rolled 4 dice to "Swimming for Shore (extended)" 7,5,10,7,7 (1 successes) Link 2012-03-28 20:11:38 Cypress Woodward rolled 5 dice to "bag grab" 4,1,1,10,7,7 (1 successes)

Conrad scrambles rapidly onto the beach, his heart racing so fast in his chest he thought it might burst, practically, tearing at the straps of the bags attached to him in order to get them off.
Conrad made it all of five steps... before he fell to his knees and emptied the contents of his stomach. Nobody... nobody should have to die like that... it could have been him... it could have been her...
Singer gone, Vibrance dead, Chisel fled... this was the moment Conrad would look back on later and declare as the end of their once-proud Alliance.
Bobbeh was nowhere to be seen either... Conrad didn't know if he'd made it to shore or not... this was all turning into a nightmare, but at least they were alive.
He made his way back to Cypress, asking the one question they didn't want to say, but needed to answer.
"What do we do now?"

Cypress pulled her bag onto her shoulders, still breathing heavily from the exertion of the escape. "I think we should get off the shore," She determined, looking towards the trees. "- we're visible here if they have any bows..."
The brunette half turned and glanced towards the ocean. You can see the massive fin of the shark circling the deflating and sinking remnants of the raft. Cypress shivers and pushes a wet tendril of hair out of her face. Her expression is pensive, her green eyes troubled as she watched the shark.
"That... that was terrible." She says softly. "Have you seen Bobbeh?"
The beach seems devoid of the hefty boy with the country drawl, district 7's first alliance member. Glancing along the ocean, you feel a jolt of alarm as you see something bobbing beside the sinking raft. You study it as the raft sinks beneath the surface, trying to decide what that pale thing bobbing atop of the waves could be.
At this distance, you can't quite identify it. There's a gnawing dread in your belly, like something about it is just wrong. Its when the hovercraft arrives, buffeting the ocean as it lowers its ladder down into the ocean that you receive the nasty jolt. The bobbing thing was part of a person, part of your former friend Bobbeh. You now don't want to look too closely as the hovercraft secures the remains of your friends.
Cypress, for all her talk of getting off the beach, sinks to her knees in the soft sand. Her expression is one of despair as she stares at the hovercraft getting ever smaller on the horizon. "Bobbeh." She states in a small voice. "We're not getting out of here, are we?"

Cypress brushed her palm over her face, flicking the salt water off of her skin. The sun was beating down on you, warm against your soaked clothes and wet skin. You adjust your packs, check that every thing on your belt is still there (which it is, thankfully). The swim and the salt water have made you thirsty and you drink heartily from your skin before you remember... you just left the ocean. Is there any fresh water around here? Checking your skin, you guess that you could make it through the night if you moderated your drinking. Too much exertion likely wasn't advised. Looking to Cypress, she's evaluating her skin with the same lackluster expression. Time to see which bags you had grabbed. Opening the first bag, you see the two gallon jug of water that had been parachuted to Cypress earlier. You know that there were two other water jugs that day, but they aren't in the bag. Just 2 gallons of water... Cypress opens her bag, tilting it to show that it was the bag that she had packed for herself. You see an apple, poncho, snorkel and mask, a tin of cookies and two water flasks. "I filled them." Cypress assured you. The water supplies suddenly were looking a bit better. Cypress examined the bag that she had tied to the top of her bag - two blankets, sodden with water now - and two packs of fire wood. You check your other bag and are relieved to find that its the food bag that you had packed at Cornucopia. The other is the bag with the - tent
- compass
- folding shovel
- bag
- 3 iodine tablets
- small rebreather (for supplying oxygen underwater)
- snorkel and mask
- fishing kit
- dive shoes
- swim fins
- flotation device
- Bag with:
- mesh bag (empty)
- mesh bag containing 6 oranges
- 10 bread rolls (individual portion)
- Tin of 10 cookies
- Sealed plastic bag of dried fruit, 1 portion
- Sealed plastic bag of dried fruit, 1 portion
- Can of chicken noodle soup

You always knew that the alliance couldn't last forever, but now you are staring at the truth that your former friends may be plotting your death. The only possible refuge would be in the island, in those palm trees. You could probably find some place... maybe search out for some water...

Conrad wrestled his feelings and threw them to one side. Now was not the time for dealing with emotional trauma. He still had Cypress to think about for now, and right now this was not a safe spot to stick around in.
"Okay, we've got adequate food, but water is going to become an issue fast... and we can't rely on sponsors to shell out while we hole up somewhere with it." Conrad hefted the heavier bags onto his back.
"Right, plan B. We find an area we can defend that you'll be safe in." Conrad stated.

Cypress stood up, shouldering her bag. "Yeah, we need water. I never think of an ocean as a place with an abundant supply of water."
She looked into the jungle, frowning with some concern. "I'd like to find a defendable place... but why only for me?" The brunette gives Conrad a worried look. "We're partners, Conrad."
Emotion runs deep in her voice. For all that you've seen since you entered the arena, the two of you had been side by side since you stepped from the platforms. The idea of separating has placed a spark of fear in those green eyes.

Conrad stopped, his back to Cypress.
"If it were as simple as being partners, that I could deal with. We've been friends so long now..."
Conrad paused.
"Remember the day we got Reaped? My dad wouldn't come see me that day. Was probably his worst nightmare come true. Your brother did though. Six little words. Just six. 'Promise me she'll come back alive." What kind of friend would I be if I broke that now? So yeah, we're finding somewhere where I can keep my promise. No matter what."
Conrad's voice was thick with emotion as he drew his twin swords.
"Let's go. There's five more left by my count."

Cedar. It would always come back to Cedar, she thought. On the Reaping day, she hadn't even feared for herself that morning. It had been Cedar's first year and the boy had been terrified. He hadn't eaten a bite of breakfast, even though her mother had managed to find a drop of syrup left over from last season. Cypress closed her eyes and was surprised to find tear drops lining her lashes. She wiped the lone tear drop that dared to trickle down her cheek.
She was afraid. It was different than the earlier fears that Vibrance might stab them in thier sleep - because Vibrance was dead and she never did betray us, and am I terrible for suspecting her of it all that time - but for now, it was just the two of them. No one was watching Conrad's back but her. How could she let Conrad leave her in a cave?
She bit her lip. Cypress stayed quiet as she followed Conrad... for a few moments.
"There's five left. Thats two versus three..." She spoke quietly and quickly. "Let me help you for now. I had these new knives dropped in... then I'll agree to the other thing."
She couldn't say hiding. She didn't agree with it, but she didn't want to argue with Conrad.
As the two walk, they realize that there was little defensible about the jungle. There were plenty of ferns, vines and trees, but it was devoid of tree copses with any foliage or a cave. Yet there was a fallen palm tree lying over a rather large rock. The shadows around it seemed impenetrable.

Conrad eyed the area, his wariness running full-pelt. A good place to Cypress safe would equally serve to do the same for anyone else that had got there first...
"Hold back." Conrad said, moving cautiously towards the fallen palm tree, his senses on full alert as he approached it.

As Conrad approached it, Cypress bit her lip. She withdrew one of her throwing knives, holding the sheath of them as she glanced around the jungle warily. The wind whistled through the trees. Somehow, a parrot sounded. Conrad peered into the small recess created by tree and rock. After a moment and no attack was forth coming, he risked a cautionary prod with a sword. The 'cave' was empty; dark as sin.

With the hiding place affirmed safe, Cypress dropped to her hands and knees and crawled within. It would be a cozy fit with both of you and you would have a view of some of the jungle. The sounds of the jungle have resumed, small animals seem to scurry by all around you.
"Hurry." She beckoned to you. "We don't know where they are."
Fear lines her voice. The earlier screams had come from somewhere in here... and the cause or culprit has yet to be vanquished.

Conrad Miles rolled 5 dice to "Stress" 9,5,4,8,3 (2 successes)
Conrad paused, turning back to Cypress' location. No... this wasn't sufficient. Gathering up as many of the fallen branches and leaves as he could, Conrad set about disguising the opening of the cave mouth.
Conrad Miles rolled 6 dice to "Camouflage" 3,6,3,5,1,8 (1 success)
Well his efforts might succeed if the discoverer was a complete idiot. Conrad quickly set about improving his work further.

Somewhat better, but Conrad couldn't afford to hang around any longer. He didn't want to be discovered anywhere near Cypress. It was time to move away from here for now. Getting to his feet, Conrad set out to get a good distance away but close enough that he could come to her aid.
Pulling his second sword out, praying this wasn't the mistake to end a lifetime, he walked into what fate had in store for him.

"Conrad. " Cypress whispered, peeking out of her hiding place. The long shadows made her eyes seem to be peering out of the deepest night. You are relieved that the opening looks somewhat less cave - like with fern fronds breaking up the profile. "Promise me you'll be careful." Her green eyes are luminous, her dark lashes lined with unshed tears.
In the jungle, Conrad hears a branch break behind him. Turning, you find Singer crouching three feet from you on a fallen log. She's adorned herself with fern fronds and smeared mud on her face. Its hard to see her especially with her behind you like that. Its an uneasy feeling. Singer speaks, quickly.
"I know where they are."`

"He's fighting fit," She remarks, moving in front of you. She moves quickly, forcing you to quicken your pace. As you progress a few minutes, you notice a blood - smeared tree. A few feet further in, you find a bloody hand print on the bark of a palm tree. What happened here?Singer begins to slow, cautioning you with a finger to her lips. You pass a uprooted fern, noticing a wet fishing net beside it. A memory flashes - the girl fishing on the shore at your arrival.
Singer crouches behind a palm tree, pointing forwards. This is the last copse of ferns before an open area about thirty feet by forty feet. Horror happened in this area. The first thing your eyes are drawn to is the girl from the beach. She lays on her back, staring sightless at the sky. Blood trails down her brow from an impacted skull, suggesting a nasty death. Another dead body - this one Chaff, the more imposing tribute - lays face first on the jungle floor. Several nasty cuts are visible; his clothing soaked through with blood.
You hear a sucking noise and are treated to an unsettling sight. Buckley - his hair matted, his hands caked with blood - crouches in the corner of the camp. He holds a raw fish in one hand and has taken a bite, chewing noisily. You watch as he plucks something green from the fish - innards? - and sucks it off of his fingers.
There is Chisel, sitting on a nearby rock about five feet from Buckley and twenty feet from you. He is watching Buckley with distaste. You note that his sword is bloody. The gear bag lies at his feet.
You guess at one time, this had been a camp. You see a tent and a cook pot beside a fire. The area had been ransacked- the tent flap was open and various items were strewn on the jungle floor. [Investigation + Int to figure out what happened]
