"Your right." Sorrel states to Elena, turning to speak to the unbalanced tribute. "You're letting that girl get away." "I told you!" Elena rages, giving a punch to Joel's arm. Joel winces and protests, rubbing the pain away. "We're here to kill that big alliance -" "I don't see them." Elena argues. "Cain, are you okay?" "I'll be okay for awhile." Cain decides. "You will be." Sorrel assures him. "I'll look at that knife wound when we're together again. I better help Joel down the mountain."
Joel makes a rude remark and Cain cuffs his ear roughly. "We could just leave you." He threatens. "So be nice to the girl."
Elena leads the charge after Micha, followed by Linwood and Cain. The three have a murderous look to thier eye. Sorrel steps up beside Joel, letting the young man use her arm for support. Sorrel gives a discreet glance behind Joel. There's curiousity glinting there...

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine watched the quick argument, and was glad to watch more than half take off after Micha. She waited for the group to hit the forest's edge, taking advantage of Sorrel and Joel's slower retreat, and rose from where she crouched on the rocky outcrop. She drew her arrow back to her cheek, adjusted for wind. Let's see you suck poison through your heart, Joel, she thought to herself, letting herself adjust just a hair more to keep from hitting Sorrel. She'd rescue the girl from those...maniacs if she could. And she loosed the arrow, watching it fly straight and true, hoping it sank enough to pierce the heart she was aiming for, and trusting the gamemaker poison would do him in even if it wasn't. 3,9,1,3,9,8,3,3,5,8,1,2,7,1,3,4,5 (4 successes)

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
Rory fought the urge to let out a "Yes!" when Jasmine fired. Instead she kept her head down and waited. It was almost over. Rory could feel it in her bones.

Joel gave a sharp jerk as the arrow pierced his heart. He lowered his head to stare at the shaft protruding from his chest, a bewildered look on his face. Sorrel leaped from his side, taking cover at the base of a tree beside the path. Joel teetered for a heart beat and then collapsed onto the mountain path. He stared sightless up at the sky, dead before he had hit the ground. Sorrel peeked from around the base of the tree. She had drawn her sword, but kept it at her side.
"Jasmine?" Sorrel asked the open air. "Its me, Sorrel. " The girl glanced about the path for a beat, searching for the archer. "I don't want to fight."

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
One down and four to go. A wide grin, joyful for perhaps the first time since the madness at the Cornucopia... since the reaping, spread across Jasmine's face. She drew another arrow, ??, from her quiver. It was meant for any who chose to come back from the forest, not Sorrel.
"Me either, Sorrel!" Jasmine shouted back. She held bow and arrow in one hand, both arms out to the side. "I dun wanna fight you. Come'n'join us. We can all go home!"
There wasn't a doubt in Jasmine's mind that she could trust Sorrel. She'd been with the others out of necessity, not choice. At least that's what Jasmine told herself.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
Rory raised to her feet as Joel went down, her axe was out but it was just Sorrel. And she had no desire to go against her. That was Jasmine's district mate and Rory could understand the bond between district mates.
She clipped her axe to her belt and put her hands up.
"Jazz is speaking the truth. District 7 doesn't want to fight District 11," Rory said, shooting a smile toward Jasmine. "We want our people to come home. So there's room in our alliance---no our little makeshift family for one more. If you're interested."

"I'm interested." Sorrel smiled, relaxing. She sheathed her sword and took a knee beside Joel, striping him of his pack. The thin girl turned the boy over, taking the canteen from his belt. She straightened and attached the canteen to her own belt, walking nearer to Rory and Jasmine.
"What have you been doing since the Feast?"

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine relaxed, smiling. She was glad her district mate was willing to join them. More than glad, really. She just hoped the dream...nightmare... she'd had wasn't anywhere near the truth. She took a breath, and climbed down from the rock. She moved closer to Sorrel and threw a one-armed hug around her district mate. She was relieved, and it showed in her body language.
"Fleeing... learning to use the bow... killing..." she said the last with only a touch of hesitation. A hesitation that hadn't existed when she'd shot Diamond, or Silver, or Joel, or Rye, or slowly pushed the knife into Emerald's heart. She suddenly felt slightly bashful for how her district mate would view that. "Worryin' a bit about you and Odin... I'm... I'm sorry fer him.."

"It was hard... " Sorrel admitted. "There was this dinosaur thing that chased us through the Wasteland. Its bite must have been poisoned because he died not long after we got away. Then I sort of fell into Elena's camp..." Sorrel shook her head. "That girl is three apples shy of a bushel. Cain seems sane, so I don't really get why he's with her."
She turned her head, looking down the mountainside. "Was that district 9 with you guys? I'm pretty sure they could kill her. They have this hunting plan going on..."

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
Rory slid down the outcrop and dusted herself off when she landed. She nodded with a grin when Sorrel spoke.
"Welcome to the fam, Sorrel" Rory told her it was the best thing that happened to them since these games had started. She only wished that they could have taken Odin too. Her head hung for a moment when Jasmine and Sorrel spoke about Odin. Rory could only imagine the pain they were going through. If it wasn't for Tank, Rory would be going through the same thing.
Rory walked toward the cave and then looked back at Sorrel. "Are you hungry?"
She continued into the cave when she got her answer from her new alliance mate. Rory knew she needed to be the first inside or bad things could potentially happen.
"Rowan! You're up." Rory's eyes brightened. "That's good. We also picked up a stray. Sorrel, Jasmine's district mate."

Jasmine nodded, frowning and squeezing Sorrel's shoulder as Sorrel related Odin's final moments. She'd seen them played out on the sky, Sorrel'd lived them. She shook her head and let out a slow breath.
She started the climb back to the cave after Rory, and answered Sorrel's question in the climb. "She was, but she ran off without us after th'feast an'... well, we ain't exactly in the best of situations for chasin' right now."
That much should be obvious soon as someone looked at Rowan. She was hurt, not as bad as before, but still... "We have plenty'o'food... Eat up if yer hungry."
She smiled, though it was distant this time, at her district mate, then drifted back to the mouth of the cave. The others might come back soon, and Jasmine wasn't about to leave their backs unguarded.

"Yes, I'm awake." Rowan replied, straightening as Rory enters the cave. As Sorrel peeks in behind Rory, Rowan reaches over to pick up her axe. She winces at the effort, settling for setting the axe across her lap. The brunette touches her wounded side gingerly. Rowan gave Rory a long look before turning her gaze to Sorrel.
"Sorrel's joining up with us?" She verified with a look back towards Rory.
While Rowan was awake, it was clear she was far from well. Her cheeks were sunken and her lips were dry, perhaps due to her long sleep during the night and well into the day.
"I could do with something to eat." Sorrel admitted. "My feast of cookies was interrupted by Micha racing by us." She glanced around the cave, evaluating.
"I have a first aid kit." Sorrel contributed. "Binoculars and some extra clothing if any one needs a change. What happened to her?" She glanced towards Rowan.

Rory Noland: District Seven Female Tribute
"I'd hug you. But I don't want you to bleed on my new boots," Rory replied with a smile, until her district mate tensed. "Hey, easy Rowan or you'll rip your stitches."
She nodded when Rowan asked if Sorrel was with them. "Yeah, Sorrel's with us now. See, while you were taking a nap, Micha ran past us. She didn't stop and we didn't call after her. Micha was already hurt by that big cat that hunted her and killed Pearl... " Rory paused, letting that sink in. Pearl was gone. Poor girl. But they were still alive. And like Micha, Pearl made her choice. Rory needed to accept that and move on. "Micha ran into Sorrel's temporary alliance of crazy people, apparently. She retreated back to the mountains and then made another break for the forest. But the crazy people stayed. Sorrel drew most of them away..." Rory nodded to Sorrel. "Thank you for that by the way... Anyway, while three of them ran off to get Micha, Jasmine dropped one of them. Sorrel told us she didn't want to fight. I offered her a spot in our alliance, she accepted, and now we're up to the present."
Rory pointed toward their supplies. "Food and water, Sorrel. Have at it. But keep in mind we'll be here for a bit so we need to conserve. Binoculars will come in handy, thank you. Do you know a bit about healing, though? Tank's been healing us up. But he's just one guy. And Jasmine could use a bit more help getting up to 100%."
When Rowan was mentioned, Rory glanced at her, then her gaze drifted to Jasmine, and finally settled on Sorrel. "We were attacked. Some brand new mutt that the Capitol cooked up for us... Two of the tributes I killed got turned into these... things... One of them hurt Rowan pretty bad. It was horrifying." Rory's voice sounded hollow. She looked down. "I thought I was going to lose her... We patched her up but she's in no shape to travel so we're holding up here."
Rory walked over to the entrance of the cave and picked up the tool kit. "Sorrel, maybe you can help me and Jasmine while Tank stays with Rowan. We're going to be placing a few traps around here."

"No, no hugging." Rowan mock protested, leaning back into a reclined position. "Ahh. That dead boy sure had good aim."
Rowan gave Sorrel another glance. "Ohh. Alright. Are we going to look for more bracelets?"
"It wasn't exactly hard to manipulate Elena." Sorrel said modestly. "She's obsessed with killing people." There's a hollow look to Sorrel's voice as she relays this.
"I can do stitching," Sorrel answered Rory's question on her medicial expertise. "- I was on hand when some people got hurt in the fields. I've seen some pretty nasty wounds in the arena that I don't think I could heal. You patched Rowan up?" She asked Tank, a gem of surprise in her voice. "A wound to her abdomen, too. Those are almost always fatal in the fields."
Sorrel accepted a package of cheese from the bounty, nibbling a corner contently.
"I'd be glad to help..."

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine listened to the conversation in the cave, and reflected briefly on Femra. You didn't kill her, Rory... the Gamemakers did... or we all did by not dragging her off that platform... It brought a frown to her delicate and pretty features. She took a shuddering breath. She'd, inadvertently, killed Odin as well. Maybe she should have stuck by her district's side and helped to protect them. She shook herself as she heard her name mentioned. "Nah... I'm alright," she lied. Her fingers were bruised from the crushing that zombie Femra gave them, but there was little that could be done about that. And the holes from the boney Cade weren't bleeding, but were still open, beneath her clothes and armor, and aching. But she hardly felt those when she was actively doing other things. Like killing... "We need-a get this place trapped... the others'll come back eventually and we need to be ready fer 'em." She looked back into the cave. "I can be patched up when there's nothin' left tuh do.. Alright?" She didn't add that that might not ever happen, but... well, they needed to prepare and she wasn't lying down dying just yet, so... She took a deep breath, smiled at her companions. It really did feel good to have Sorrel in their midst, and wished that Odin hadn't been so opposed to the big alliance in the first place, and stepped out to begin working on the traps. She stowed her bow and arrow, moving to pick up one of the logs and move it into place along a likely path a tribute'd take to get to the cave and could be set to rolling downhill... They should also dam up the little river the heavy rain'd created... and snares to slow tributes down and let her perfect her shot... and something to light them up at night... but one thing at a time. The logs Rory had cut down were ready and ripe to be put into place. Apply two of the rolls per trap please, unless more successes are required. 4, 8,7, 8,1,7,2 ( 2 successes) 10, 10,5,7,7,4,6,1, 8 ( 3 successes) 5, 9,6, 8,4,1,4 ( 2 successes) 3, 8, 9,7,6,3, 9 ( 3 successes) 9,3,5, 9,3, 8, 8 ( 4 successes) 9,5,4,2, 8,2,6 ( 2 successes) 7,1,2,1,4,6,6 ( 0 successes) 3,7,6, 9,2,7, 8 ( 2 successes)

Tank rummaged in his bag and produced two pouches of dried fruit, slightly squashed but the contents edible, which he offered to be passed around while the now larger family talked as they went about their work.
"If it wasn't for Rory and Jasmine being here I don't think I'd have been able to pull that surgery off alone." Tank smiled at his Alli... no. That wasn't the word for it. Seven years since his mother had passed and he had a family once again, one forged by friendship and tempered through the hardships of the Arena.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute “Yeah, but only when we can move you,” Rory replied. She wouldn’t risk it. If they moved Rowan too soon she could reopen the wound and die. And that would be just one more person Rory killed either through inaction or incompetence. Either way, she couldn’t have that. So they’d stay put until Rowan was ready. Rory studied Sorrel when she spoke of Elena. The things she must of have seen. “You don’t have to worry about following her. We’re not crazy. Emotionally, probably. Sarcastic, most definitely. But not crazy… Well, not yet. We survive this then we’ll see.”Rory frowned when Jasmine said she was fine. She didn’t like it but it wasn’t as if she could order Jasmine to be healed. “Alright, Jazz. But Sorrel, if we get some time, maybe you and Tank could patch Jasmine up.”She smiled and then drank deeply from a canteen, placed a roll in her month and walked outside. “Let’s get to work.”Three torches were placed at the three fronts they’d have to deal with. One for each flank and one directly in front of them further down the incline. Each torch was far enough from the cave that it shouldn’t be a fire hazard but also close enough that Jasmine or Rory could easily pick tributes off with bows.
The torches were made of short, thick branches from the ground. One of the ends was whittled down to a point and stuck in the ground near some trees but again not close enough to ignite the trees. They were wrapped in scrapes of fabric from one of Rye’s thermals, then carefully coat in the incendiary substance that was given to Jasmine. There were only enough for the material to catch on fire.
The snare wire was cut in three strains of equal length, and then 8 inches was cut from each strain. One end of the longer pieces was screwed to a tree truck, just high enough to trip someone but not be noticed. The other end was frayed and tied to what looked like large mouse trap with a twig and a match carefully tied to, made of a crude blocks carved from large enough branches. The wood scraps were used to make shorter posted that a small chunk of flint was glued to.
The way rudimentary device worked was someone would trip on the wire which with enough tension would trigger the mouse trap, bringing the match up, across the flint and torch post, hopefully setting the torch post on fire.
Once that was finished, the other bundle of snare was used as trip wire to send other tributes tumbling without triggering the torches.
[Items used: Wood glue, Two bundles of snare wire, Twenty Screws, Three Waterproof Matches, Small amounts of incendiary substance] Three very large branches were moved just about fifteen feet in front of cave entrance. Two bundles of rope were used to secure the logs down. The other ends of the ropes were pulled back and tied down with wooden pegs placed so closed together and some could slice through both ropes at once and send the logs rolling down the slope. The logs were covered with pine needles and a small amount of dirt.
[Items used: Forty Feet of Rope, Lots and lots of pine needles and a small amount of dirt.] The small gully was dammed up using wooden logs glued together that were half buried in the gully. If they were ambushed and needed to retreat up the mountain they could kick it over and flood the trail

"A little less 'thats almost always fatal, thanks." Rowan remarked, a shadow of worry touching her features.
Sorrel nodded her head at Tank's words. "Its truly amazing... especially in these conditions. I'm glad that you're recovering." She said sincerely to Rowan, who looked mollified from the 'nearly fatal' comment.
"Let me know what the plan is and I can help." Sorrel offered. "Tank, I can help watch over Rowan too if you need to get out there. A big strong boy could do a world of good with things... not that I'm sure what you're doing."
"I wish I could do more than lay here... if you guys need things like..tied together or sawed apart, I could so something like that."
Rowan picked at a few pieces of dried fruit. It appeared an apetite had yet to return. Sorrel finished the block of cheese that had been offered and adds a tin of cookies from her pack to the food pile.
"Oh, I never saw what was in his pack." Sorrel realized, kneeling down by the mouth of the cave. She overturned Joel's pack onto the cave floor. Several clothing items fell out first - two pairs of camoflague pants, three pairs of woolen socks and two olive green long sleeved shirts. Sorrel sorted through the gear, laying out waterproof waders, a fishing net and a flash light. She found 10 arrows at the bottom of the bag along with a finely wrought +5 hunting knife.
"Hm." Sorrel plucked out a wooden box that had a mountain side etched onto it. Tank, Jasmine and Rory recognized the 'map' puzzle that they had solved earlier in the week. This 'map' clearly featured the map that they were on right down to the path and the location of the cave. There was an inlaid gold circle an inch above the cave - a solved puzzle map signalling a Victors Bracelet was on this mountain!
The work on the traps took all of the remaining daylight. The work made those helping break into a sweat at times under the warmer conditions on the mountain. One aspect that quickly became apparent was that the path going further up the mountain was steep and had little cover beside the path. Most of the trees were at least seven feet from the path and the larger boulders were now in outcroppings yards from the path.
Trapping the path at their back from any one or thing coming down the mountain was going to be more difficult - and a thing for another day. Darkness was rolling down the mountain side in lengthening shadows.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Rory glanced at Rowan. They had the no hugging rule so Rory didn't hug her instead she put a hand on her shoulder. "We got you through the first night. So that's good. And you're awake, that's even better. So just rest up. I know it sucks but that's what I need you to do." She wouldn't order her to rest. Like Jasmine, Rowan was pretty stubborn. Hell, so was Rory, so she understood. Didn't make it easier to deal with though. "The plan is pretty simple, Sorrel," Rory said as she pointed to the spots where the traps would go as she spoke about them. She tried to be as clear as she could be about the traps. And when she was done, Rory smiled. "So should the traps work, it'll help us hold up here as long as we need to. Anyone who comes near us we'll have to battle. And we'll have to win." "Joel had a bunch of gear..." Rory commented on. Her eyes drifted to map. She almost gasped. "That's a map. It's telling us the location of another bracelet... And it's here. It might even be in this cave... If it's not in the cave, we'll get to it first thing in the morning. So everyone eat something, drink something, looking around for anything out of place, and if we don't find anything I'll craft some arrows before we set up sleeping shifts."5,3,7,1,10,4,2 (1 successes)

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine wiped her brow, rigging the last snare at the bottom. This one was tied to a bundle of two of her waterproof matches... matches she'd collected the very first day. Those matches would scrape a rock and come underneath a pile of kindling. Provided that there wasn't another rainstorm, the bundle would light up and set a small bonfire near the base of the mountain and light up any intruders down there.
She ached. Ached from head to toe, her fingers felt cramped, especially the ones that had been crushed by Femra, and likely would be bleeding if it weren't for her gloves. She made the climb back to the cave. Despite her aches and pains, she was feeling good. She'd lost Odin, but she'd regained Sorrel... and she still had Rowan and Rory and Tank. They were going to make it. They were strong, and the traps would give them warning and an edge over the intruders.
They could do this and go home. Jasmine just had to keep believing that. The light at the end of the tunnel was the glorious light of day and survival, not the train bearing down on them.
She entered the cave and sat down beside Rowan, stripping off her jacket, her shirt beneath sweat streaked and tinged with blood around the freshest of wounds from Cade the previous night. She felt exhausted.
"It's done... All's left is tuh wait fer th'daylight." She smiled at her friends, her battle-brother and sisters. Her family away from her family. She'd have to get to know Sorrel a little better when they got home. The burden that was the games would be easier to bear with another champion of the 25th Hunger Games by her side. "If'n our medics aren't too worn out... could yuh take a peek at muh hole?"

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Rory sat down as the others spoke and Jasmine got healed. She pulled out the arrow kit and worked as she eat some jerky. Apparently working all day and made her a bit hungry. It was the first time since she got to the Capitol that she didn't have to force herself to eat. She'd stop what she was doing periodically to drink from her canteen or eat more of the lemming meat. "There got a few more arrows to add to our collection... You know we should really consider cooking the turkey at some point," Rory said absentmindedly. 10,6,2,6,3,6,2,4,3,6,1 (1 successes) 9,2,6,7,6,10,10,9,9,10,2,2,2 (6 successes) 10,2,1,1,6,5,4,4,10,10,7,10,6,3 (4 successes) I'll be gone most of the day. Tank pulled out the District 7 medkit once again, lamenting the fact that Conrad and Apple couldn't have sent them two... Tank rolled 9 dice to "Healing" 3,10,6,10,6,3,7,4,2,6,4 (2 successes) With the medical supplies in the kit running low, he wasn't able to patch up Jasmine's injuries as well as he'd have liked to, but his ministrations at least served to put her in a better condition than before Tank started.

"Not much of a talker?" Sorrel hazarded as Tank did not respond to her comments and compliments. "Its a map?" Sorrel examined the map box in her hand for a few moments. "There's a 'key' on the side that says an inch is three miles. The 'golden circle' that I guess is the bracelet is three miles up the side of this mountain."
Rowan's eyes were starting to drift shut. Without any intervention, she dozed off once more.
Soon the sound of four cannons rolled over the mountain, making Rowan jerk in her sleep. Somewhere, four tributes had lost thier lives. Was the alliance keeping track of thier rivals?
The anthem music rolled over the mountain as the sun sank below the horizon. The faces of Joel, Lallek, Jace, Elena and Linwood stared down at the Rebel Alliance from the sky. That meant Micha had survived her brush with Elena's alliance - and that Cain was the final living member of Elena's alliance.
"Cain might wonder what happened to Joel." Sorrel hazarded a guess.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female
Jasmine winced a little as Tank worked on her and put on fresh clothing once he was finished, topping it off with her armor and jacket. "Thanks Tank."
She picked up her bow and quiver of arrows and moved back to the mouth of the cave. She slid an explosive arrow from her quiver and sat down to watch out into the darkening landscape.
"Well... I dunno how far up we are... so.. we can go searchin' tomorrow," Jasmine said just as the cannons sounded. Four. Was that including Joel? One hadn't sounded earlier for him... Once the light faded entirely from outside, the faces would appear and she'd do a full count in her head of remaining tributes. There couldn't be many left. "Yeah... he might... But if'n he does, he'll get th'same as Joel did."
Jasmine spoke with the certainty of someone who'd killed. And killed frequently. Five tributes dead by her hands in the last three days had changed her. She was nearly certain it wasn't for the best. "I'll keep first watch tuhnight..."

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute
Jace was gone. Rory couldn't believe it. She just couldn't believe it. We were supposed to be the final battle. Us versus them. And he's gone... Water welled in Rory's eyes. She didn't hate Jace. Just his decisions. She wished that he would have listened to her, followed her.
Rory's hands clenched, she shut her eyes and willed herself not to cry. The effort stung her eyes and her breathing changed.
Jace... I'm so sorry...
Taking a deep breath, she regained composure. "Like Jasmine said, Cain will meet the same fate as Joel if he comes looking. My priority is keeping all of you alive. Even you Sorrel. With the most of the Crazies dead, we're the biggest alliance again. And if we're the final five... I won't kill any of you. I can't. You're my family."
She paused, remembering something she had heard in school once. " From this day to the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remembered... We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother...." We're a family. And we'll deal with whatever they throw at us. We'll met every challenge head on. And I promise you, I'll get us home, or die trying."
