"Not much of a talker." Tank confirmed Sorrel's description of him.
A gentle hand gripped Rory's shoulder comfortingly after the sounds of cannon fire were heard and added his own sentiment to her speech.
"Will protect my family with my life."
Even if I have to protect it from itself...

The twilight was overtaken by blackness as night claimed the mountain. The shadows stretched out towards the cave. The moon tonight was a thin sliver of white in the black sky, not scratching the murky darkness that surrounded the cave. Who would take a watch? Where would they watch from? As the alliance discussed, the sounds of night began to chirp as insects hummed and near - silent owls hunted small prey nearby. There was a crack of a snapping branch... yet no light trap was triggered. Perhaps a falling branch. Perhaps.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female "Ain't no more of us dyin'. We're th'strongest out here... I mean... Cain's by himself an' Micha'n'Rachel are alone, an' think that might be it for who's left out there. They'd have to tackle all of us at once. An' we've got defenses here an'... We're gonna make it." Jasmine actually believed what she was saying, and said it without looking away from the growing deepening darkness outside. "Y'all oughta get some rest. Tuhmorrow's comin' earlier than we all expect. I've got first watch. Sorrel, 'lest yuh've got an objection, would you take second? Rory'll bring up third... Tank, you rest up buddy." She made the offer to Sorrel as a note of good will. She trusted her district mate to take watch by herself and to hold one of the more critical watches. After everyone drifted to sleep, Jasmine remained by the mouth of the cave, quietly watching the moon and darkness and mountain side. She kept an explosive arrow nocked. She wouldn't dare shoot it in the cave, but... down the hill... distinct possibility. She listened to the sounds of nature. Those were good, those seemed to disappear when a predator neared. Then the snap of a branch caught her attention, her head swiveling toward the sound, eyes searching the darkness as her fingers drew out her flashlight. If she turned it on, it would completely give away that she was in the cave, but hopefully blind whoever was out there. Just because their light trap hadn't gone off didn't mean someone hadn't bypassed it. She prepared to warn the rest, flash whoever was out there, and shoot them. 5,8,6,2,2 (1 successes)

"Rachel's a sneak." Rowan roused, announcing her opinion sleepily. "Never liked that girl. Wouldn't underestimate her. " The injured girl shifted herself into a sleeping position, listening to the changes with curiosity. ""So few left?" A bit of optimism glittered in her eyes. Rowan remained awake as the others drifted off to sleep, watching out the cave entrance.
"I will take the next watch," Sorrel agreed with a nod. "- and I appreciate your trust. I'll wake Rory for the next watch." She agreed with a nod to Rory. "Its good to let Tank rest, too. I bet that surgery was rough work."
Sorrel drifted off to sleep with the others as Jasmine's watch began.
Jasmine notices only the glitter of the moon's reflection in a pair of eyes about thirty feet away. The Blood Panther had returned. The eyes remain thirty feet away from the cave entrance, about seven feet up in the air. If Jasmine had to guess, the panther was watching from a perch in a tree. Was the panther waiting for a moment to strike? Was it watching someone else sneak up on them? Or was this waiting game meant to drive her mad?

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute
Rory looked at Tank and smiled with a slight nod before she put her hand over the one he placed on her shoulder and gave it a slight squeeze.
Her expression darkened at the mention of Rachel. Not only had she stolen from them, she hit Pearl when Pearl was still one of Rory's. And that was a slight she would not soon forget, nor would she allow Rachel to go on without seeking retribution.
Glancing at Jasmine, Rory hoped that out of everyone she understood why Rachel needed to die and why Rory needed to be the one that killed her.
"Sounds good, Jasmine," Rory said about the night watch shifts. She didn't know Sorrel but she trusted Jasmine with her life and Jasmine trusted Sorrel and by extension she trusted Sorrel too. "Okay, I guess it's time for bed. I'll sleep this time instead of insisting I work myself to exhaustion. Night everyone."
Before Rory laid down, she prepared a place in the cave for Sorrel could sleep. Sorrel was family now and Rory planned to treat her as such. And when she fell asleep, Rory began to have that same dream of Tank, Rowan, Gable, and herself were giving Jasmine a tour of their district from high in the trees. Only this time... Sorrel was with them too.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine let her gaze linger on the sparkling eyes in the tree. The silent predator forming around those eyes. She was startled, the spike in her adrenaline evidence of that enough. She quickly slipped the flashlight back into her pocket, drawing the bow back to her ear and held it there for a moment. The big predator that had likely taken down Pearl just remained in the tree... silently stalking. Think this through, Jazz...The other nighttime sounds hadn't vanished. That meant the predator, while stalking them, wasn't hunting. Nature had a habit of getting quiet to watch the spectacle of violence. Much like Capitol and Panem and the games. Quiet before the kill, quiet sobs after. She could imagine that the reaction was slightly different in Capitol versus her home District 11. Regardless, the nighttime sounds meant it was watching, not hunting... but it didn't mean nothing was hunting. Jasmine let the arrow forward, but kept it nocked. If that big cat got closer or threatening, she'd reassess the situation. For now... She backed into the cave a couple steps. If there was a tribute out there, they'd have to come cross into her view and wouldn't be able to sideswipe her. She swapped the explosive arrow for a ?? arrow, preparing to make noise and shoot whomever appeared at the mouth, if anyone. 8,3,8,4,8 (3 successes)

The crickets continued their constant noise, the soft and subtle noises of the nocturnal animals of the mountain continue. Those sparkling emerald eyes continue to watch, seeming to never blink in its sentry over the mouth of the cave. Jasmine held the pose for a minute. Then perhaps five. Her arms were beginning to protest when she heard it again. Snap This time, she spotted the dark, swinging hair of a female tribute ducking behind a tree.
Someone had climbed over the top of the mountain - where they hadn't yet trapped due to its more treacherous and uneven ground! That dark hair could belong to Rachel or Micha. In the gloom, Jasmine couldn't tell who it was. She saw only one tribute - no. Another pale hand was grasping a tree branch about twenty feet further up the mountain. The observation was barely made before the hand retreated from sight. Jasmine had a fair view of the area in front of the cave. She could afford to wait for a good shot...
Yet no one stepped out onto the path. The girl- girls? - perhaps Cain?- waited thirty feet up the mountain, their motives and actions unseen and unknown at the moment. The panther stirred in its tree, sitting up on its haunches. Watching. Waiting.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine acted normal. Kept watch. Eyes drifting to the big hunter... then the flash of pale flesh.. and the hand... and.. Tributes... TRIBUTES! her mind screamed at her. One... maybe two. And she held a commanding view of them. And the shifting big cat. They couldn't rush the mouth without her spotting and loosing at least one arrow at them. She considered, as her emotions went cold, swapping arrows once more, and decided against it. She already had the ?? nocked, and it would have to do in a pinch. What she, however, did need was back up. She could shoot and cripple, possibly drop, especially if the ?? arrow was exceedingly deadly, one rushing tribute, but she wasn't certain if she could get two. She wasn't the archer that had maimed the entire career pack at the start of the games. Maybe, given a couple more months with the bow, she'd have that confidence though. She backed, slowly, into the cave, never taking her eyes away from the hiding place of the tributes, ready to draw the arrow she had nocked and shoot it at a moment's notice, to Rory's sleeping. Her second in command. Or perhaps commander. Certainly leader. Rory could help defend and get everyone else up if a fight was brewing. Jasmine lightly kicked the sleeping tribute's foot and whispered "Tributes. Two. Maybe more." She didn't waste time with more words, moving back to her vigil closer to the mouth of the cave, but far enough back to force a bottleneck. Violence was imminent, and Jasmine was ready to make it deadly for them. Jasmine's ready to draw her bow back and shoot, but since she doesn't have a clear target right now, there's no aiming action. (Though I will take any bonuses you wanna bestow.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute
A tap on the foot. Danger. There were ways they had of waking each other to signal each other that all was well. So any other way meant that there was something hostile out there. So when her eyes snapped open, Rory wasn't surprised that Jasmine was standing near her with bow at the ready.
Rory nodded and quiet put on her armor. She placed the last piece of equipment on before she secured her belt, and reached for Jasmine's old bow. She took the arrows from Joel's bag, notching one of them, mirroring Jasmine.
Now all they'd have to do was wait. Whoever comes for us... we'll make them sorry.

The wait isn't long. The female with the dark long hair - Micha or Rachel?- steps up close to a tree a mere twenty feet away. She's too close to the tree to get a shot off at her that would be lethal - you might get that hand that's moving. She's holding something in her hand - a black device. She's placing it against the tree and to your alarm, you see a leather strap wrap around the tree and cinch. What did she have? Some unknown sponsor gift? The girl hides behind the tree - smart- and begins to pull the wrap around the tree to inch something around the girth of the tree.
Its a pain - fully slow process, taking what seems to be a minute for each inch of rotation for the strap. Now you see some sort of black circular platform with a nozzle. Another inch. Was that a barrel? Was this a weapon being inches into firing range at your cave? High above in the tree, the panther chuffed. It seemed to approve.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Movement. There was at least one tribute out there. Rory wanted to attack right away. But she waited... Joel's arrow wouldn't be enough. And Jasmine confirmed her suspisions when she handed Rory one of her ?? arrows. The tribute from District Seven nodded. She knew what she had to do. Everything fell away as Rory focused, notching the arrow and pulling back on the bowstring. She pointed it toward her target. If she missed, they'd be on the defensive. She couldn't miss. I won't miss.Rory let loose an arrow and didn't wait for it to hit it's target before she reached for one of Joel's arrows. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew that this hand could belong to Micha. Rory hoped it was Rachel. But if it was Micha... well... she was coming down on Rory's people. It meant she marked herself as an enemy. And Rory could not suffer one to live long enough to hurt any of her people. Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female No mercy. Jasmine passed the ?? arrow she held to Rory. That slowly rotating band worried her. She thought, briefly of getting the rest of the group up, and dismissed it, her fingers brushing the arrows in her quiver and pulling an explosive arrow out, nocked it. That band on the tree... a nozzle? A weapon... She drew a breath and let it out slowly. No mercy. The thought flew through her head as Rory's arrow struck the hand on the tree. That nozzle was dangerous and... She drew the bowstring back to her cheek. It had to go, and if the explosive arrow blew the tribute behind the tree up as well, all the better. They were intent on attacking Jasmine and her troupe, and Jasmine was going to defend them. With deadly efficiency if possible. She honed in on the little black band and the nozzle and loosed the explosive arrow, immediately tugging a poison one from her quiver and nocked it, readying for the next shot and trusting the explosion would wake the rest of the resting tributes in their cave. There's a scream - a terrible, pain wrenched scream. It sets the hair on your neck on edge, and seemed to never end. There is a sudden movement from the second person to the tree. It was dark - seeing that second person was impossible. Someone needed to aim a light or take some action for light. The scream intensifies - you wonder if its possible to go deaf from the sound, then silence. The tree branch shifts, giving you a view of the tree and a terrible scene- an amputated hand is pinned to the tree with an arrow.
That means there's two people out there, one badly injured... in this darkness, its hard to see where they could be. What you do see is the nozzle spit out something small and round that lands in the center of your cave. Its grey and about three inches in diameter. If you touch it, it weighs an odd ten pounds or so! Its ticking....
To throw the ball, its a wits + comp (need two successes) + athletics & dexterity for the actual throw!

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Time stopped. The screaming stole her thoughts. Rory attempted to follow the girl with Jasmine's spare bow but she wasn't an archer. And it was too dark to see. "We're under attack!" she yelled just as the tiny orb rolled into sight. Rory's heart stopped. She looked at Jasmine and only had a moment to decide whether Rory was going to throw the orb or throw herself onto the orb. The District Seven Tribute picked up the orb and with a battle roar she chucked just in front of the second person's path. The bow was set down and Rory went for her axe. Rory nodded at Jasmine, picked up a flashlight, and turned in on. She made a swept with it, starting from where they first saw movement at the tree in front of them and settling on where she thought the second possible person might be. "Light 'em up." As the terrible scream cuts through the night, Tank was most rudely awakened from his slumber, adrenaline from the shock serving to put him on instant alert as he reached out for his axe, only to pull his hand back to him as a grey sphere narrowly avoided landing on it.
Rory's declaration of being under attack was no longer necessary at this point, Tank rapidly getting to his feet with weapon now firmly grasped as she sent the orb flying out into the night air.
As the flashlight clicked on, Tank's heart was beating loud and fast in his chest; the noise calling him into battle like his own personal drum of war.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine was in defense mode... and the explosive arrow had, so far, performed less than spectacularly. The screaming, while horrific and noisy, hardly phased her. With what she'd already seen, already done, a little more screaming in the middle of the night as a tribute's arm melted off thanks to...a...??...arrow... Jasmine left the words to Rory as her fingers flitted among the arrows remaining in her quiver and selected her other ?? arrow, sliding it out and nocking it. She drew the arrow back to her cheek, tracking the movement as Rory removed the offending ball from their cave, their haven. She let her anger swell. These tributes couldn't give them a night's rest, had to hit them... had to come over the mountain the hard was and not have the decency to at least injure themselves in the climb. As soon as Rory's light alighted on a second offending tribute, she fixed it in her sights, lifted her aim slightly and focused extra hard on landing that headshot with her nice little last ?? arrow. She concentrated and let her breath out slowly as she loosed the shot. new roll with the modifiers you listed. 1,3,4,2,3,4,1,7,8,2,6,2 (1 successes) I HATE LUCK.

There's a sudden heat that registers on your faces a second before the explosion. The tree that the nozzle gun had been on explodes, sending limbs and debris flying every which way. In the sudden light, you see a hand dart forward. A throwing knife glints in the night, landing by Rory's foot. Rory is able to pinpoint the thrower - Rachel. A bloody, worse for wear and slightly maniac looking Rachel. She has something else in her hand - something black and round.
The arrow strikes Rachel's shoulder - the shoulder that is all that remains of that arm, now. Rachel screams and something horrific happens to her skin, something that makes her skin seem to move. She throws the black ball forward, causing it to drop into the cave mouth. It ticks.
Sorrel snatches it up and throws it back out into the night. It explodes with flames, causing the tree debris to begin to smolder and smoke. Sorrel swears and hefts up her sword, kneeling by the mouth of the cave. She takes out something from her vest- a throwing knife - and hurls it into the night. There's a shout - a shout from a male tribute.
The ball that Rory has thrown hits the ground in a PUFF smoke. It rolls in front of the cave, making it impossible for you to see. If that had been INSIDE of the cave when it exploded, you shudder to think of how easy you would have been to pick off. You. can. not. see. a. thing. The gray smoke whiffs in front of the cave face, already moving. It will pass... but how long will it take? What are your attackers doing?
Somewhere, the Blood Panther screams. You hear something else... crackling. Snapping. There is an orange tint to the gray haze, now. Fire?

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Rachel. Anger flashes in Rory's eyes. Murderous rage. Rachel had betrayed them twice and Rory wanted nothing more than to end her. Axe, bow, blade, or with her own hands. Rachel had bought a one way ticket to her grave. However, instead of running into battle, Rory stopped and took a moment to get her bearings. Tank and Sorrel were awake. Rowan was still alive. Those were all good things. But it would do little to ease Rory's worries about this fight. There was smoke everywhere and she was pretty sure something was on fire. She just didn't know how close. "We can't leave Rachel alive... We can't leave anyone alive," Rory said, coldly, searching around for movement with the flashlight. "If we go after them then Tank will have to stay with Rowan. We'll have to do this fast... I don't think we have a lot of time left before this mountain goes up in flames." "Perception" 5,4,6,6,2,8 (1 successes)

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Barbed. Should have barbed the bloody explosive arrows, She thought seconds after the tree and nozzle exploded. A tribute had more than enough time to rip a normal arrow from the body before it exploded if there was as much as a delay as there was before the tree'd exploded. Unless the gamemakers were in control of just when her explosive arrows went boom. She raised a hand to her mouth, angry with the clearly disabled Rachel, and whoever else was out there. This was supposed to be over. Over. And they were going to win. By bloody stream or bloody ocean, Jasmine was going to see her alliance home, and that began with killing the tributes that had attacked their temporary home. She looked to Rory as she spoke, did a quick count of her arrows, one poison, three explosive. They'd all be useful, but the poison most so. She'd select them on an as needed basis. She scooped up the handful of arrows that Rory'd made before sleeping, and added them to her quiver. They'd be useful as well. She took a quick breath, darted after her friend through the smoke and scanned for the retreating tributes, or the blood panther, among the destruction on the mountainside. Time to bring it to a head and an end. "Gotta work quick-like, Rory." 10,7,3,1,5,1 (1 successes)

"Are all three of them out there?" Rowan wonders. "You don't have to leave tank with me. He's strong. You might need him out there. I can still defend myself."
But that axe lying across her lap remains across her lap. You wonder if she has the strength to lift it. She certainly hasn't gained the strength to stand, yet. It was a risk to leave her alone. One had to remember Cypress' fate due to Singer's betrayal in locating her hiding place... Yet Rowan does lift the axe, placing it cutting side towards the mouth of the cave.
"Or if someone had something to throw, I could try and help."
"I have throwing knives." Sorrel stated. "Are you certain you want to fight, Rowan? If you hide, they may not notice you. They may come after the closest targets - us."
"I won't hide." Rowan hisses.
Sorrel looks towards the other three, the question in her eyes. What should we do? The smoke still blocks the view of the mountain. In order to see through to the other tributes, you must walk through the smoke - at least ten feet from the cave.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute Rory looked at Rowan as the cave grew quiet. She said nothing at first, just looking at her district mate. Rowan had been someone that she had grown to respect, admire. She had a fire and a strength of character Rory almost envied until she realized she and Rowan were more similar than either one of them knew. And it was in that moment, Rory understood that Rowan was coming whether they liked it or not. If it were me I wouldn't want to go down hiding in a cave either. And so with a nod, Rory frowned. "It's Rowan's choice. We don't have to like it. We just have to accept it." she looked at Tank. "Stay close to her. If you get overrun, you pick her up and you go. Head to the forest... the lake. But be careful. Lallek and Jace might be gone but... their campsite might not be. And we all know how much Lallek liked his traps."Rory moved toward Jasmine and Sorrel. "Sorrel, give Rowan your throwing knives and then follow me out. Jasmine cover our backs. We go out quietly and keep our eyes and ears open," And she glanced back at Tank and Rowan. "Don't die... that's an order. And if you never follow another one of my orders ever again, please follow this one."She nodded before she began to creep through the cave. "You follow it too." Tank uttered back, the moment of tenderness from the silent giant sadly all too brief as his face hardened once more, focusing on the trial ahead. With axe firmly gripped in hand, the male took up a battle ready stance and grimly prepared for whatever may await them on the other side of the wall of smoke.

Jasmine Coverfield, District 11 Female Jasmine nodded. She wanted to rush out there and rain arrows down on the disturbers of her peaceful night. At the same time, she remembered the result of the careers rushing into the alliance's trap, however hastily sprung it was. She took a deep breath, nodding again to Rory's hasty plan. She looked back to Tank and Rowan, though her words were meant for everyone in the cave. "Dun take unnecessary risks, a'ight? We all go home. We all go home." With those words she followed Rory and Sorrel, as quietly as she could, out of the cave, eyes scanning the mountain the moment they broke the smoke barrier. "All right." Sorrel states to Rory and Jasmine. "But be careful, Rowan." The girl from district eleven stresses, pulling off her vest with the throwing knives on the inner pocket. "There are six left of the lightest, I only have three left of the heavier ones for far away. These ones are the lightest - " She indictated a row. "- and these ones are for more than ten feet of distance from you." Sorrel assisted Rowan in putting on her vest. Rowan struggled to stand and Sorrel leaned in to help Rowan clambor to her feet. Rowan teetered for a minute but shrugged off Sorrel's arm. "I'm fine. " Rowan insisted. "I'll go out behind you, Rory." Rowan sheethed her axe and drew a throwing knife. She labored to walk quietly. One watching her could catch a wince of pain occasionally. The visibility outside of the cave was poor. The smoke hung over the ground five feet out from the cave and ten feet in either direction. The forms of trees ten feet away were gray and hazy. There was an orange glow to the edges of the smoke... fire? As Rory and Rowan stepped outside of the cave, they found themselves walking into smoke. The smoke made them cough, attempting to stifle it was impossible. The best that they could do was to try and muffle the sound with thier hands. They could not see any one around them, but they could hardly see anything at all. For Tank, Jasmine, Rowan and Sorrel see clearly, they would have to walk further from the cave. The sounds of crackling and the occasional sharp pop continued up and down the mountain. At your feet were splinters and broken tree limbs and some plant debris, likely thrown up from the explosion. Rory happened to be looking the right direction - north east - during a break in the smoke cover. She could see one thing immediately - a ring of fire was set up around the mountainside around the cave. There was thirty feet up the path and thirty feet down the path - and then a wall of fire cut across the entire area in a ring. If someone had been inside here when the fire ring went up, they were still in here. There hadn't been any canons yet - and jumping that wall of fire would be impossible. Rory also noticed a fallen tree trunk - ripped from its ripped from the explosion - had been set up near another standing tree. As Rory is looking at the potential trap or cover set up, an arrow pierces her right arm from the right side of the smoke. Cain rolled 6 dice to "shooting Rory" 3,5,2,4,10,3,1 (1 successes)
"I can't see a thing. Fair warning." Sorrel warned in a low voice, stepping out behind Rowan.

Rory Noland:District Seven Female Tribute The smoke made Rory's eyes water and the despite her best efforts she couldn't help but cough. She shoved her face in the pit of her left elbow and held it there as she walked through the smoke. She had her people at her back and felt - not safe - Rory felt protected. Everyone with me is going home. Rowan presence wasn't unwelcomed, just worrisome. For Cedar's sake his cousin needed to come back. And as much as Rory didn't want to say it out loud, her own sanity hung on the keeping everyone alive. Rory scanned the mountain. Fire was everywhere. And at least Rachel was inside the ring of flames. Her mind took note of the fallen tree trunk. It could be used to cross the fire. A shape pain in her right arm made Rory bite her lip to keep from calling out. She dropped to one knee and noticed the arrow in her right arm. In her axe hand. The arrow needed to go. Working quickly Rory picked up a branch, put it between her teeth, and bit down before yanking on the arrow carefully but swiftly. She tore off a piece of her thermals and tied off the wound.
